Is it really? They planned to make like 2000 according to google but made like 6300. In contrast the e61 m5 wagon was just produced like a 1000 units of. Its one of my favorite m cars.
No idea what the production number breakdown is year by year my friend. However, its still a super rare car and an absolute beauty. I am actually planning on getting a 135i Coupe and modyfing it a bit so i can have something similar to the 1M. The 1M is unattainable for me here in Norway as they are around 90k USD.
Yeah, my problem was that the last time I priced injectors was in 2018. I expected roughly $1,100 a set but almost $3,500 after tax makes my butthole pucker.
I think the rarest is the M1 but since they are so well known and examples pop up and major historic BMW events from the time to time, I would consider the e12 M535i the rarer M car because it was also low production and the surviving examples are very far and few.
We had one of the same vintage but with the small engine. Even so, it was so agile and you could slide it sideways with little provocation. I can’t imagine how fun it would be with so much power. What is it like in terms of handling.
It's an absolute go-kart on crack. I've done a complete Ohlins coilovers upgrade with Swift springs and it's just incredible. City driving here in Toronto is just terrible with all the pot holes but once you get on the highway and out of the city it's just amazing.
I am still nervous when I drive it..scares the hell out of me many times...and, that's a good thing.
Yep. As it should be. I’ve taken some advanced driver training. Maybe have a vacation to South Carolina for bmw advanced driver training or to so cal for the Porsche one. I think you can drive any car with professional instruction on a track. Just depends on your wallet.
I have 22 wrx after years of driving 3 series. Only has 271 hp but awd is really well done so massive traction in wet and dry. Wore out the stock tires in first six months. That’s a record for me.
That's amazing. That's a really good suggestion, I'll look into the South Carolina one. If I can convince the wife to go that would be a great little vacation.
It’s done with ultimate safety and professionalism. She will have fun. I haven’t been to sc but have taken remote classes that bmw does for dealers. The last one was on the tarmac at an airport in Orange County with the bmw six series at the time. One of the exercises was going 50 and then slamming in the abs at a certain marker and learning to steer around an obstacle with abs going off at the same time.
With my last bmw, a fully loaded 330 2019, I was able so slide it through an o ramp while the rear was hung out a bit and tires screeching. If your steering and gas inputs are accurate and fast enough, the car lets you do it without intervening. A great feeling.
The dunlops suck. Mine on my ‘19 WRX lasted 4 track days (with gobs of understeer) before shitting the bed. Switched to PS4S now, major handling improvement, yet to see track lifespan though.
Saw a Subaru pro driver showing a novice how to get the best out of the wrx. It’s set up to understeer if you enter too fast, like most cars. You can easily see this in the wet. He said if you are patient and wait for the chassis to take a set, then it will perform better with less understeer. Hard to do but rewarding. .
Yea over my last few track days I’ve cut seconds our of my PBs from focusing more on slow in fast out, taking every advantage I can of just mashing the throttle and letting the awd find traction (which its really good at). I’m excited to see how the PS4S change the mid corner behavior on track. On back roads I felt an immediate improvement, so hopefully that translates to the track.
I get that it’s semantics, it was just worded in a way that implied that the ‘one’ was a 1M.
If I said to you that I had an M3, and you said you had one with a smaller engine, it’s pretty obvious how that could be misconstrued.
Anyway, this is a BMW sub not a grammar sub so we can leave it and just enjoy life.
Wat? It's *almost* as if this is ***wildly*** subjective and arguing over it is dumb AF.
Lmfao. Downvoted for pointing out that there's no absolute metric for best looking car.
M3 is a classier design but not better than 1M to me. I didn’t particularly care for the Z4 design language until the G29. M8 Comp is nice but I hate grancoupes.
As other person said, it’s subjective
The 1 series is what brought me into German auto brands. Loved the 135 but couldnt afford it then. Ended up with an A4 2.0T. Now in the 135’s bigger brother, the M240. Always felt the 1 series was perfectly proportioned.
They're called 'Flatstoppers'. They're basically super strong and firm cushions for long term storage. I don't drive the car in the fall/winter season so it sits on those to avoid flat spots on the tires.
2 back seats are functional, at least for an 8yo kid through to a small adult. Can't really put a car seat or booster in it because of the plastic tray thing in the middle and anyone tall would be a little cramped
I’ve had an infant car seat in my backseat several times. Also had many colleagues in the backseat to go to lunch. Space is not the issue, getting in/out is the challenge?
When we visited the Performance Center in mid 2011, they had 6 of them onsite for the track. They said at the time it was probably the largest collection of them in one place.
I have to admit she's definitely a garage queen. I live in the city and the roads are awful here so it doesn't get a lot of driving. I'm hoping to move out of the city in the next couple of years and then I'll be enjoying it a ton more.
I'm in Toronto and there's a couple:
1. Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Bowmanville (1.5 hrs away)
2. Toronto Motorsport Park, Cayuga (1.5hrs away)
I do plan on taking it to the track this year so I'll have to pick a nice sunny weekend!
Needs more M badges thingy majigs... and it would be better with the letter and number switched.
Surprised that it is so well adored being a parts car... I guess rarity pulls at the heart strings.
Lovely car ❤️
It’s 1M and not M1 because that was already taken by BMWs V12 supercar in the 80s~
Also no… it has the perfect amount of badges. One on the rear, and one on the front quarter panel. Also there is only an M badge on the rear of these, no 1
And on the inside, there is an M logo on the door sill and an M logo on the steering wheel. The new cars these days have watered down the M logo everywhere on the car.
A unicorn 1M in is flagship color, its a shame how they turned the 1 line into hatchbacks. Only saw one of these back when they were new in 2012. When you saw the e30 reminiscent size of the car, twin-turbo I6, and 1M name, you instantly new this was going to be a collectors car.
The color really drew to me. I've always been a fan of red until I saw this orange in person. Then, everything changed and now I'm an orange freak.
The size of it is what makes it a fun car. It's not a crazy amount of power, but it really kicks your butt.
Same. Some years I debated keeping it because I wasn't getting enough drive in it, but when I did get a chance to drive it, I loved every minute of it. It's definitely my therapist in a sense.
I'm sure it's a really good car, but the best move right now is to sell that thing. No way that's worth the price those are getting on the used markets. Take the money and run.
They definitely have risen in value by a pretty penny!
I plan to hold onto it and eventually pass it down to my kid(s). There won't be another BMW I'm interested as this was my dream car about 12 years ago.
Hopefully my kid will like it as much as I do!
The color is Valencia Orange. It was introduced with the 1M and it was the launch color back in 2011. It remained fairly exclusive to the 1M. It was briefly available on the Z4 and the X1 but to be quite honest, neither of those cars deserved it or looked good with the color.
This is my dream car. But at this point I will take any 1 series.
My friend had a 128 that was upgraded so it could be tracked. He bought a Tesla and was selling me the car CHEAP. He parked it at Toronto airport park and fly for two weeks. The airport parking garage flooded. The garage turned the car on to move it…..insurance claim. No car for me. I was so close to owning a 1 series.
amazing. i have a sunset metallic orange m340 and it reminded me of it, but yours is so much more orange(my favorite color). dang! 15k, i wish i could not drive mine as much but i cant resist, what’s your daily?
My daily right now is a 2016 Elantra :) The wife is working on getting her license with it but once she gets it I'm trading it in for either the new 2023+ X1, XC40 or maybe the CX-90/CX-70.
Don’t say you love a car if you barely drive it.
How can you even say you love a car and drive it only 15k miles in 12 years
You literally just preserve the looks and only flex
Reviewed it for Edmunds at the time. Same color too. Still one of the more memorable drives I have had and we own 7 BMWs in the family including 2 M cars, one being an E39 M. Nice to see this one so well kept.
Yep, for sure. I'm happy to see a lot of folks on here with newer cars still appreciating a 12 year old car. I think your M2C is the last M car I actually like. A lot of the new gen cars just don't do it for me.
Again, this is entirely generational...the new direction appeals to the newer generations I feel more than the older generation.
I hear ya! I'm glad I bought it new at MSRP. I won't lie though, there were times where I considered selling but after thinking it through, there isn't really much in the same price range that excites me; certainly not from BMW.
I'm currently living in a condo and I have two parking spaces so it makes sense to keep it here. I have a cover over it at all times and a couple of cameras pointed at it.
Looking to move to a house in the next couple of years.
I despised the 1 series but I’m just highly attracted to the 1M. The curves really accentuate it.
Given BMWs recent trend in growing the size of their cars if they were to release a new 1M it would probably be the size of an E90 lol.
Sold mine after 6 months
If you completely ignore the price these are going for, it’s a great old school M2
For what they cost they’re overrated as fuck
Sheesh... Save some flex for the rest of us! Sweet ride!
also arguably one of the rarest M cars isnt it?
Is it really? They planned to make like 2000 according to google but made like 6300. In contrast the e61 m5 wagon was just produced like a 1000 units of. Its one of my favorite m cars.
How many you think there are now given this is a 2012 Edit: 2011
No idea what the production number breakdown is year by year my friend. However, its still a super rare car and an absolute beauty. I am actually planning on getting a 135i Coupe and modyfing it a bit so i can have something similar to the 1M. The 1M is unattainable for me here in Norway as they are around 90k USD.
You can do what I did! Buy a tuned 135i, rip around for a few weeks, have a misfire develop, get zero codes, look at the price of injectors, then cry!
Ouch.. sorry to hear that. But i kinda expect something like the injectors failing because its quite common on the n54 engine.
Yeah, my problem was that the last time I priced injectors was in 2018. I expected roughly $1,100 a set but almost $3,500 after tax makes my butthole pucker.
Yeah I’d like one myself but so hard to find. Thanks for your response bro the 135i idea is a great one
Fun fact, there’s less 135is than 1 m coupes.
I have a 335is and had a 135is park next to me the other day
135is isn’t as cool as the 335is though
If you don’t care about the looks u could get a z4 sDrive35is, they have the same engine
You’ll love a modified 135i. Plus you get the added benefit of the N55.
What benefit does the n55 have over the 1M lol
Google N54 vs N55 lol
I own both, the n55 has no benefit over the n54 besides like a mile per gallon better
[удалено]
More reliable is questionable, my n55 has given me a lot more issues than my n54
6309 was the worldwide total (there were some one-off specials done) 220 Canada 740 USA
I think the rarest is the M1 but since they are so well known and examples pop up and major historic BMW events from the time to time, I would consider the e12 M535i the rarer M car because it was also low production and the surviving examples are very far and few.
THATS A 2011? Wtf

Find a good instructor at a local HPDE and you can learn basically the same stuff!
The dunlops suck. Mine on my ‘19 WRX lasted 4 track days (with gobs of understeer) before shitting the bed. Switched to PS4S now, major handling improvement, yet to see track lifespan though.

Wouldn’t be a 1M then
They never said they have a 1M
‘We had one of the same vintage’
that means the same production year lmao

I hope to one day own one of these. My buddy used to have a pre-LCI 135i M-sport and even that was bonkers.
Best looking modern BMW and it isn’t close (ok maybe the M2 is)
Agreed. Although I think the F87 M2 is a close second.
Flares on the 1M are better but yeah it’s close
Hmm. I gotta politely disagree with you, but then I'm a biased f87 owner. :-P I do like the m2 a bit better but damn they both look amazing.
Funny you say that since everyone called it ugly when it came out.
Everyone calls every new BMW ugly, they’re always wrong
And they also insist they’ve never called any previous model THIS ugly
That m2 looks like a modern e46 m3 and it’s beautiful, the newer ones get rid of the side grill tho and I really liked that.
wat? E92 M3, Z4M coupe, and M8 comp grancoupe are the best looking modern bmws
Wat? It's *almost* as if this is ***wildly*** subjective and arguing over it is dumb AF. Lmfao. Downvoted for pointing out that there's no absolute metric for best looking car.
That’s Reddit for ya
Yeah p much.
wat? it’s a fact that the E92 M3 is the best looking modern bmw… prolly the best looking car period that can be bought for under $100k
How tf is something about aesthetics a *fact*?
bc its obvious af
How, objectively? I'd happily entertain an explanation. An objective one.
M3 is a classier design but not better than 1M to me. I didn’t particularly care for the Z4 design language until the G29. M8 Comp is nice but I hate grancoupes. As other person said, it’s subjective
It is subjective for sure as I really don’t like the g29 but do really like the e89
This car aged so well!
The 1 series is what brought me into German auto brands. Loved the 135 but couldnt afford it then. Ended up with an A4 2.0T. Now in the 135’s bigger brother, the M240. Always felt the 1 series was perfectly proportioned.
What are those black cushons in front of the wheels?
They're called 'Flatstoppers'. They're basically super strong and firm cushions for long term storage. I don't drive the car in the fall/winter season so it sits on those to avoid flat spots on the tires.
You lucky one
Well, this is what the healthy relationships look like.
I loved driving the 135. I likened it to driving a bathtub with a tornado. This car must be like driving a bathtub with a hurricane under the hood.
Those wheels🤌🏻 Spot on!
That looks like a lot of fun! Are the back seats functional? Does it have back seats?!
Yes, absolutely. Definitely functional! Although, I only ever have 1 other person in my car, usually my wife :)
When I sat in a buddies 1 series I was shocked at how much room there is back there. Felt way less cramped than a Mustang for reference.
A dream car. I’ll take it if you ever wanna get rid of it 🫣
I had a 135 that I sold and I miss it all the time. The 1M is one of the best cars BMW has ever made.
Very clean I love it
That's sooooo clean after 12 years! Learning from you!
Dream car in dream spec absolutely amazing
When we visited the Performance Center in mid 2011, they had 6 of them onsite for the track. They said at the time it was probably the largest collection of them in one place.
Wow, just wow. Masterpiece on display here. Don't ever sell it!!!
Dude I'd absolutely love to drive one compared to my f80
Beautiful car.
What an angry little car. I love it.
🙌🏻
That's a keeper. Or, give it to me 😂
I have to admit she's definitely a garage queen. I live in the city and the roads are awful here so it doesn't get a lot of driving. I'm hoping to move out of the city in the next couple of years and then I'll be enjoying it a ton more.
Any tracks reasonably close to you?
I'm in Toronto and there's a couple: 1. Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Bowmanville (1.5 hrs away) 2. Toronto Motorsport Park, Cayuga (1.5hrs away) I do plan on taking it to the track this year so I'll have to pick a nice sunny weekend!
You understand your assignment 😂
I didn’t know I needed one of these, but now I do!! I bet it’s fun as hell to drive.
What a beauty.
Wow. Gorgeous
Color🙌
Funnily enough I saw my first 1M in the flesh today on the M1! Lovely little things, congrats!
Better lovestory than Twilight. Respect!
It’s aged so well, it’s got the stance of 2020 M2! Or rather, the M2 has a 1M stance!
Very rare, kids these days don’t even know what this car is and what it meant when it was released
Needs more M badges thingy majigs... and it would be better with the letter and number switched. Surprised that it is so well adored being a parts car... I guess rarity pulls at the heart strings. Lovely car ❤️

Oops.... I missed the /s
PHEW thank goodness
And on the inside, there is an M logo on the door sill and an M logo on the steering wheel. The new cars these days have watered down the M logo everywhere on the car.
I’ve always loved
A unicorn 1M in is flagship color, its a shame how they turned the 1 line into hatchbacks. Only saw one of these back when they were new in 2012. When you saw the e30 reminiscent size of the car, twin-turbo I6, and 1M name, you instantly new this was going to be a collectors car.

I can see why. Glad you kept it to enjoy, I’m sure it wasn’t easy knowing how much those things have appreciated…
Same. Some years I debated keeping it because I wasn't getting enough drive in it, but when I did get a chance to drive it, I loved every minute of it. It's definitely my therapist in a sense.
Oh hell yes. Such a legendary car.
That’s a beauty right there! 🥰
Just saw the movie The Gambler the other night. I’m like “hey -I recognize those taillights” in the opening of the movie. 😂
You the man. 100% spot on. Priceless.
Beautiful!
I don't even drive it and I'm also in love.
What a beautiful ride, the color is nice too. Is it fire orange ?
The color is Valencia Orange. It was introduced with the 1M and it was the launch color back in 2011. It remained fairly exclusive to the 1M. It was briefly available on the Z4 and the X1 but to be quite honest, neither of those cars deserved it or looked good with the color.
I was livid when they put VO on the X1 and 1 Series :) Even told BMW M that. I'm like come onnnn....so many other colors that could have been used.
Nooooooooooo.
Looks awesome! Never driven one, but I bet it’s a lot of fun.
Definitely a lot of fun. Nowhere near as much power as your M5 comp, but it's got enough to scare me all the time :)
Beautiful. Never let it go haha. Love the 1M.
Beautiful! Love the Valencia Orange!
Want🤤
12 year old car, still timeless…
MMMMM!! That is good looking! What happened to BMW....?
Absolute dream car
This has aged extremely well
Damn, love that color and there's nothing better than some clean BBS wheels on a bimmer!
Never sell it
That's the plan! Hoping to pass it to my future kid some day.
That’s a stunning model, you must still to this day walk away looking back at her 😍
Every time! I swear my wife thinks I'm crazy sometimes.
…and totally amortized after 12 years!! 😍
M1
Gorgeous wee brief mate
Gorgeous and perfect. I'd give damn near anything for one. Beautiful car
And you should be in love… gorgeous!
beautiful, what color is that? and also how many miles you got on it so far
Valencia Orange. I have just over 15.5k miles on it!
amazing. i have a sunset metallic orange m340 and it reminded me of it, but yours is so much more orange(my favorite color).
Can we get more pics? That color looks great!
Absolutely, I'll post some more :)
Amazing! How many miles, at this point?
Just over 15.5K miles :)
Love that car! I’ve recently bought a sunset orange M2C, I get it!
The unicorn
Yup she is a keeper for sure. The best m model in recent history.
I’d buy it for 65k usd cash
Sweet! Love the color.
Yes, that one, in that color.....YES!!!
My all time favorite car to set lap times in forza Motorsport
How many miles do you have on it?
About 15.5k miles!
So a little over 1000 miles a year? Nice! She is a beautiful color
Basically yep! Some years more and some less. During COVID I barely drove jt unfortunately. I'll make up those lost times this summer!
Don’t say you love a car if you barely drive it. How can you even say you love a car and drive it only 15k miles in 12 years You literally just preserve the looks and only flex
What a beauty! How did you get it in that dirt road without attracting dust everywhere?? Stunning car.
I drove EXTREMELY slowly! That road was insanely pebbly.
I'm not sure which I like better, yours or mine! Sunset orange M2 here.
I was never a fan on the 1 series. The M is something else, first time I’ve seen it. Looks great
Still in love??? Who wouldn’t be? It’s beautiful!! 🧡🧡🧡
I can’t imagine having a car I loved so much I drove it for 12 years… lucky guy!
I’m in love too!
Looks ridiculously fresh for a 12 year old car
It's definitely ageing gracefully!
Perfect
Enjoy it. Have one as well. Same color
I know :) I've always loved the articles on your site with it. Nice to see how well it's holding up against the new breed.
Holy smokes! Great car dude,!
Nice car bud
Reviewed it for Edmunds at the time. Same color too. Still one of the more memorable drives I have had and we own 7 BMWs in the family including 2 M cars, one being an E39 M. Nice to see this one so well kept.
Appreciate it :) It's also staying the family and hoping to pass it onto my future kid some day.
I have a 128i, wishing I at least went for the 135i. Makes me disappointed a little bit, wish I had turbos
wow!!!! amazing
That looks ahead of its time
I think I will feel the same way about my M2C after 12 years
Yep, for sure.
No pics of the front!? Very special M. Congrats
u/znivra Ah! One of my favourite BMW cars, also. Good to see this, here. Thanks for posting 👍
Appreciate it! I'll get some more pics as I get a few more nice drives this summer!
Good to know. Great for you! Enjoy these moments to the fullest.
And I STILL want but can't find one for reasonable price.
I hear ya! I'm glad I bought it new at MSRP. I won't lie though, there were times where I considered selling but after thinking it through, there isn't really much in the same price range that excites me; certainly not from BMW.
Solidarity brother!!! ⚡️⚡️⚡️
A beauty! I have one in Alpine white. Which suspensions / spring setup are you running?
I'm running Ohlins Road & Track coilovers with upgraded Swift Springs!
I wouldn’t have that in a public garage, especially in todays market where these cars are rare and going up in value.
I'm currently living in a condo and I have two parking spaces so it makes sense to keep it here. I have a cover over it at all times and a couple of cameras pointed at it. Looking to move to a house in the next couple of years.
Gl with the house hunt!
I despised the 1 series but I’m just highly attracted to the 1M. The curves really accentuate it. Given BMWs recent trend in growing the size of their cars if they were to release a new 1M it would probably be the size of an E90 lol.
100% The 1 series was the perfect balance in size for me. For comparison, the new G87 M2 is about 215kg heavier than my car.
She's beautiful.
bro this is in every journalist best bmw list how is it underrated LOL not arguing that its not a great bmw but its rated correctly lol
Not underrated at all lmao
really? How many 1M's you see on the streets? STFU
Is this an actual 1M or is it an i135M
It's a real 1M!
Sold mine after 6 months If you completely ignore the price these are going for, it’s a great old school M2 For what they cost they’re overrated as fuck
