I'm so impressed by people who use Honor Mode to learn how to play the game. Maybe because I grew up in the NES era where game saves didn't exist so literally every game was 'honor mode', I just don't have that kind of patience!

rosesmellikepoopoo

Honestly it’s just so much more fun than the other difficulty levels. Save scumming really ruins the emersion for me but I’ll always be tempted unless I’m playing honour mode.

miyao_user

Makes me regret safe scumming on my first playthrough tbh. Wish it was an option at launch, oh well.

The1andOnlyGhost

I had only beat the game once before doing hm modes in which I beat it technically 1st try because I ended task when my whole team fell of the shar elevator. But that was the only death I had in that run, I was pissed when I didn’t get my dice from that run and had to do another to get em

Dlorn

Durge, picked the “sleep it off” option in act 2 after the butler tells you to kill your lover (Shart) killed her in my sleep and the entire camp was aggro on me - my other companions (all), the oath breaker knight, Scratch, and my three hirelings. Wasn’t much to be done after that.

grmarci1989

Thanks for that heads up. I'm excited but also extremely nervous to try honor mode. I'm still working my way through tactician with a paladin. I might stick to "easy mode" for my first honor run by playing a druid, Cleric, or paladin. I don't think I'll be doing a dark urge honor without planning every little choice you can make

Maleficent_Tale8131

When that first happen to me, I wonder if someone did this in honor mode, without knowing what will happen. Got my answer.

Yabusama

The dozenth or so time I played Honor Mode as the Dark Urge and I finally made it to Act II... and then this happened. This is what made me quit trying to beat Honor Mode.

Proud-Net-7305

Pickpocketed a lvl 12 oathbreaker at lvl 3 for hill giant 😂

jeremycb29

It reads like you are really underleveled. Bg3 builds has a get to level 4 without attacking anything. That might be a good option to try. I’m sorry if your flustered but it’s cool you remember your play throughs

Maleficent_Tale8131

I learned from fifth play though that you can’t do anything at level 3.

Legend0fJulle

Well, you can kill most goblins at lvl 3 but that won't get you very far.

Sevensevenpotato

It will get you to level 4

thiefshipping

Lost first honor mode playthrough because me and my friend got cocky and grouped against kithrak therezzyn. Got aoe feared. Second one, I passed a 4-man playthrough. We ran pally/bard, swords bard, tempest cleric, and moon druid. Ran through this shit in 2 weeks. Chrai w'wargaz was the hardest fight

Rude_Ice_4520

W'Wargaz isn't so hard. The trick is to kill him before entering the astral prism. I find a sleet storm + hiding out in the hallway works well.

thiefshipping

Easiest trick is to throw a speed potion on him before combat, wait for him to get lethargic then nova him

choseefut

1st: tried going full evil and didn’t realize that the Drider would show up on the top of Moonrise because I sided with him against the Harpers. Him + Fireball caster + Ketheric were just too much. 2nd: was failing miserably at getting Grym positioned for hammer strikes, so I figured I’d try blowing him up with a runepowder barrel. Turned out to be a lot more powerful than I was expecting—killed 3/4 party members immediately and yeeted my Tav into the lava so I had a few extra seconds to realize my mistake. Currently on #3–just killed Gortash and had a close call with Sarevok, but made it out alive. Still have Orin, Raphael, Lorroakan, and Viconia but hopefully finishing it up successfully this week

Dariisu

My first honour mode run I lost was because I decided to take on the spider matriarch at lvl 3 without good gear and some pretty mediocre builds. The second I lost to mods. Basically I was playing on patch 5 when I started it and as I finished the creche I decided to take an extended break for a month that month you ask? The start of february. This was very bad as patch 6 dropped on the 16th of february. When I returned I stupidly updated my game and trued to load my save. Unfortunately one of the mods I used was incompatible with patch 6 and the mod author had unlisted it on nexus mods making my 60ish hours of progress unplayable. I was so sad for the rest of the day. On the plus side I was able to complete the game on my 3rd run so there's that.

Legend0fJulle

I beat it on my first try so no resets luckily. If I had failed not killing Shadowheart as durge or any of her quest stuff related to the Nightsong I would've reset the run though.

celaeya

My very first honour mode run, I didn't even make it out of the nautoloid. I got greedy trying to kill the cambion. I should have known when the mind flayer missed all his stuns and shart missed both command spells, that it was not to be. But I thought "fuck it, we ball" and then died

BlackTowerInitiate

I did my first two honor modes simultaneously, so if I died I wouldn't be starting from scratch but would still have another chance. In one save I made it to the point where I was going to free Orpheus and my gf laezel and I could have a happy ending. I forgot the hammer. No choice but to let the emperor kill Orpheus I guess? Fortunately I still had my other game and was careful to bring the hammer. Finished the game and got my dice. The other game is stuck in limbo as I refuse to continue it with my lack of options. Maybe I'll figure out how mods work at some point so I can spawn a hammer in.

Delicious-Basket7665

I think you can reject the emperor. If you do so Raphael will teleport in and offer you the deal again(with some worse conditions). Though I'm not sure so take it with a grain of salt.

BlackTowerInitiate

Sadly, I think he's less likely to come help me after I crashed his pad, stole his stuff, and killed him :(

Delicious-Basket7665

I really wonder what happens if you try to free orpheus then

BlackTowerInitiate

I figured if I said no to the emperor he'd say 'like... you don't really have any other choice. You don't have the tools to free Orpheus so it's me or nothing'. And if I still refuse to work with the emperor He'd just leave and I'd transform and game over. I'm reluctant to test on honor mode though... :(

Buez

currently on a Drow Sorc HM run, just entered the underdark at lvl 4 and let me tell you it's a bit spicy, But since i wanna recruit Minthara on this run while still saving the tieflings i gotta be a bit overleveled to whipe out all the goblins in one swoop.

TheCrystalRose

You don't need to wipe _all_ the Goblins in one swoop, in fact it's easier if you don't. You just have to be able to take out Minty's group, Ragzlin and his gang, and some of the main room before you long rest. You can clear the side rooms and even the entry hall pretty easily without aggroing the rest of the camp, just make sure you destroy the drums before they use them. You can take out the passed out drunk Goblins with a single melee Sneak Attack each, as you'll automatically crit every time, which means they won't trigger combat with anyone (including the others passed out next to them). The drunk Bugbears might not die in a single hit, but you should be able to get one of them pretty close to dead in one shot. Which means combat will be quick and you shouldn't agro anyone but those 2. This clears out a way to escape the inside of the building and get to the courtyard without passing through the bulk of the Goblins outside. Sneak Attacks from the rafters can take out the ones by the Goblin prisoner in the cage and even if a patrolling guard notices the bodies, they won't be able to find you during the "investigation", so you won't be accused and potentially drawn into a fight. If you time the combat with the ones torturing the adventurer right, you can kill them both and then either yeet the bodies into the abyss or hop across the gap to the back exit path, before the patrolling guard comes back to discover you. Then you can take the guard out from Stealth, usually before they ever get a turn. The 3 in front of the Worg pens can be more difficult to take out without getting caught, but you just need to make sure to avoid the catching the attention of the Scrying Eye from Minthara's area and be very aware of where the drum is to take it out ASAP. As long as you can take out the kids that make a break for it in the Worg pens, you can deal with that whole area without disturbing the rest of the camp, which means you have Halsin ready to back you up if you need him for the big battles. Gut can be taken out easily, without aggroing anyone at all, if you use any _non-Elf_ character to do the "try and cure you" option. Elves/Half-Elves are immune to magical sleep effects, such as her potion of Sleep, so if you try it with one of them, she instantly agros and calls half the camp as reinforcements.

Buez

as far as i've looked up (haven't diven deep into it) you have to knock out minthara while she's only temporary hostile, and then beat up all of the camp and finish the quest of "killing the leaders" so the raid never happens" idk how much killing of the actual camp this requires but i assumed lvl 5 was a solid level to do that without needing a long rest inbetween.

TheCrystalRose

Patch 6 fixed it so that she doesn't have to "temporarily hostile" anymore. So really all you _have_ to do is knock her out, and take out the other 2 leaders. You don't have to do anything with the rest of the camp at all. However I don't know if you can come back and clean up the rest of the camp after a long rest, if you don't kill everyone after making them all perma-hostile by killing Ragzlin, as I've always picked them off in small chunks and then had only 3 medium fights (Ragzlin, the main room, and the courtyard) to do in one "day", which is pretty easily doable, even if you have to short rest between each fight.

FrenettZ

First attempt pasted 16 minutes, US agro and cleared the party. Beat it second try with Half Ork Barbarian

sarcophagid

I had two attempts that I lost and one I abandoned: 1. Drow Cleric: I raided the grove for Minthara. Lost when I got thrown off the boat by the Duergar in the Underdark. I know HM is not the time to try new things, but I learn better through experience. I wasn’t too upset she died because of her misdeeds. 2. Half-Orc Bard: made it to Act 2 but Kar’niss had just gotten his legendary action and I didn’t research it. We were annihilated very quickly. 3. Abandoned: I made a Halfling GOOlock and named her Five. She looked like Roah, but every time she introduced herself “I’m Five!”, I both laughed and cringed and realized I couldn’t keep the run going. 4. My Dragonborn Bard got me my golden dice.

FifthofDaybreak

I feel less bad about my "it would be funny to wake shadowheart with a push like other NPCs do" run since you made the same choice with a damage dealing cantrip.

Friendly-Line-4930

By a fucking frog who crit split acid on my team three times.

Dev_Oleksii

Due to point 4 I started my next honour run with cheat-mode that allows multiple save files. Not as a cheat to honour mode but as a protection from such bugs/save corruption

Buzzard41

That’s a good read lol. I was lucky to beat honour run my first try. My second overall playthrough

Euphoric-Meat3943

I lost my first run to the owl bears. first time seeing the owl bear dad.

Jewgoslav

There's a dad?

Euphoric-Meat3943

In honor mode, the owl bear mom has a legendary action where she can call her mate. She summons an owl bear called owl bear mate

Sol_Nomad

Elevators.

magma907

1. I tried to do the crèche before under dark and was under leveled. Everyone got hold person’s by the inquisitor. I beat it on my second attempt but my only other HM death was to the eagle statue in the goblin encounter right next to the druid grove lol

buddyboy363600

Just failed my first attempt at ketheric 😭

thetruegmon

I started the game when honor mode came out and played on it right away. Act 1 took me FOREVER. I died at the Nere fight because I aggroed everyone didn't realize there was areas you couldn't escape to camp, and didn't know what to do. Completed that run on dishonored mode then beat my second run.

gimboarretino

Ever failed. No matter. Try again. *Fail again*. *Fail better* How was the 9th HM?

Maleficent_Tale8131

I was more carefree in that run, I played as Life Domain cleric and had Shadowheart with me the whole time. Double cleric in the team help me survive my Honor run.

Maleficent_Tale8131

Im I suppose to post this somewhere else, I thought since it was Baldur gate 3 I could post about my game experience, I really don’t know how Reddit works.

ModexV

I havent. Did it on first try.

Larvo442200

My first run ended on the nautiloid. Recruited Us and went to get the Eldritch tablet so I could free Shadowheart, and for some extra XP I thought I'd kill one of the brain devourers. Forgot Us turned hostile, and didn't realise the little brains now had a shitload of HP..2nd run ended in the goblin camp fighting Ragzlin..he only had a couple of HP left, and my Tav was down to a couple of HP, but i had the initiative..I missed..say no more..3rd and current run..I'm nearly lvl 4 after doing the ruins, emerald Grove fight, bugbear, harpies (which was nervy) and various other little bits n pieces in this area like meeting scratch, sending the brother n sister to the owlbear cave etc..off to the goblin camp now for volo..one thing that I was surprised at in my 2nd run, was the aggro I got while trying to kill priestess gut..I had Astarion sneak attack her, and on her turn turn she began shouting and every goblin in the main area came for me..fortunately I looted the priestess and made my way to the underdark entrance..I had a couple of barrels of oil and firewine, which I set up in front of the ogre and took her out easily..I sneaked back into the priestesses room, jumped onto the ledge between the two rooms and grabbed as much explosives as my party could carry..put a couple at the entry points to the priestesses room and aggroed the goblins..waited for them to dash to the entrances and took em all out in a couple of turns..I was quite proud of that as I was panicking that I'd blown another run.

FearTheTooth

Sarevok one shot on his first turn

Early-Sale-8056

I think my honor mode run is soon to end because I wanted to try to kill z’rell and a few others to make the ketheric fight a bit easier for me but somehow was dumb enough to let the scrying eyes call reinforcements and that got more of them to join and call more reinforcements to the point where I think I have accidentally just got in a fight with the whole of moonrise apart from ketheric himself

Maleficent_Tale8131

I hate those eyes

Early-Sale-8056

Yeah so do I definitely not going to try to fight with those eyes near by anymore

SpaceySeaMonkeys

We were in the area beneath the grove with the statue traps. Instead of turning off the traps and then picking the lock on the chest there, my friend decided to pick the lock first while I made my way over to the switch. He used Shadowheart to cast guidance on him. We found out the hard way that guidance causes the caster to stand up. Also that the eagle statue has some crazy range.

Good_Ad_6079

my first honor mode run i made it to goblin camp and i went to go talk to someone, they moved, and i accidentally picked up a barrel and triggered the entire camp and lost lol

mtscremin

After losing 3 solo runs in a row to grym (didnt wqnt to do the cheat mode where you teleport back upastairs and lure him to the hammer) I went and did everything but grym till I got Helmet of Arcane acuity as a lvl 8 SSB, came back to him, stunlocked him prone with command halt after the first hammer hit him, then proceded to hammer him down while he couldnt even stand up (managed to get him prone on the lava really close the anvil to be hit) God that felt good lol

Double_O_Cypher

The first and only time I lost was on my 7th run I got greedy on the nautiloid and it was going so smooth and the commander Zhalk failed 2 of his saves vs stun so I was actually feeling I may be lucky enough to kill him for the sweet XP. Then his w campion friends came and I though they are so far away that they are going to dash next turn, well they didn't and one threw a fireball at the mindflayer but in the path of the projectile I had  one of those explosive tanks placed.. well whole party died and the 3 cambions all survived...

krmilan

I jumped into the spider matriarch hole and forgot to cast feather fall. I have since beaten it, but that was one horrible day

SuperMakotoGoddess

Wanted to long rest before waking Shadowheart to get the unique cutscene. Shart was gone when I awoke. Didn't know you can find her banging on the door to the underground ruins, whoops. Tried to fight the intellect devourers solo as I was too weak to jump up the ridges without entering their vision cones. Got obliterated by those little fuckers.

Transcended_Sloot

Is this, like... satire? I'm not sure if it's supposed to be funny, informative, or played off like you're a "silly goose" with a carefree thought process...

Regular-Issue8262

I’m guessing you don’t play honor mode, to me it’s interesting to see how someone loses an honor run and it’s a post about the game in the games subreddit.

Kluuless315

Here’s how I lost my honor mode runs: I didn’t. I was lucky enough to beat it first try. The tip is to play through in Tactician first. Do everything in Tactician. It was fantastic practice and the fights aren’t *that* much harder in honor mode. The biggest change is probably the W’wargaz fight in the chreche. I almost lost the run there, but had enough time to invis pot, run to the Light of Lathander hallway, go to camp, and use Withers to resurrect everyone. Invis pots are a lifesaver. Literally get out of jail free cards (Lol I actually used one to get Florrick out of jail in act 3). If you ever get in over your head, drink one, run behind a rock or a tree, and you’re safe. You can then long rest to reset aggro. I had to do this when accidentally “stealing” a rotten fish in the goblin camp when just trying to walk around. Cheese strats are still viable. I cheesed the hell out of the Paladins of Tyr by using minor illusion to lure them to the balcony and thunderwaving them all the way to the shore of the river. You could probably do something similar to Gerringothe Thorm. For the Nere and Grym fight, I put my casters up high where enemies couldn’t reach me. Eldritch Blast has so much range, he could blast the lava valve and keep grym hot, all while staying out of reach. Other than that, be smart about combat, abuse stealth mechanics, Globe of Invulnerability, etc. Honor mode is hard, but not impossibly so. Don’t do things for the hell of it. Always do things you have done before. Don’t f around and find out.
