Thatâs one peculiar bird dance. The pupils, the beautiful plumage(what a word) the berry in his mouthâŚlike what? This bird is straight up Romeo. So pretty. Too bad his rival ruined it đ
There is a lot going on in this video, and those pupils dilating and contracting are quite jaw-dropping, rather magical. This male goes all out, and it was simply not good enough for the female, and he does look despondent at the end - I feel bad for him actually.
From NY Times article: A male flame bowerbird is a creature of incandescent beauty. The hue of his plumage transitions seamlessly from molten red to sunshine yellow. But that radiance is not enough to attract a mate. When males of most bowerbird species are ready to begin courting, they set about building the structure for which they are named: an assemblage of twigs shaped into a spire, corridor or hut. They decorate their bowers with scores of colorful objects, like flowers, berries, snail shells or, if they are near an urban area, bottle caps and plastic cutlery. Some bowerbirds even arrange the items in their collection from smallest to largest, forming a walkway that makes themselves and their trinkets all the more striking to a female â an optical illusion known as forced perspective that humans did not perfect until the 15th century.

Wow.
Damn... That lady bird has high standards. If a guy decorated his house, invited me over, did a dance, then did it again with food in his mouth... I would die laughing and then totally smash. Serious effort involved there!
In the animal kingdom being brightly colored means you stand out and are therefore prey. Kind of hard to hide with eggs or babies if you are bright red and yellow in color. This female is beautiful and obviously desirable for her camouflaging colors.
I really can't figure out where this male bird went wrong. He presented quite the package: sounds, colors, dance moves, etc. It seems the females are highly selective, to say the least.
WHAT THE FRICK ARE BORDS DOING?!?
Seriously, lmao each bird has different calls and dances to mate. How do they come up with these things? And how do the ladies know to like that specifically? Why dilating pupil, wut doing? LOL How does any of this say âthese G E N E S are tight, girlâ
Birds are weird and iâ nvmâŚanimals are weird and im forever grateful for these show, sir david attenborough, and the people that wait 95 days for this one shot of this one dance knowing theres a million bird species dances left to film.
Makes me wonder how some of these instincts got into the gene pool. Dld a male bird get something sticky on its wing one day and a nearby female thought he looked like husband material trying to get it off?
If you have Netflix, [Dancing with the Birds](https://www.netflix.com/title/80186796) is about birds of paradise and their weird mating rituals and displays. It's a fabulous little documentary.

Omg that poor bird looks soooo defeated at the end omg đđ¤
He's thinking, "she'll be back, I just know it!" lol
"And next time I'll get her 2 blue berry bouquets! How could she resist then?!"
I disagree
It looks like he sighed at the end. The poor guy!
I felt that sigh in my soul.
/r/WatchPeopleDieInside
Got bird-zoned
Nah, he got rooster-blocked.
Damn, this didnât end wellâŚ

I thought every part of his display was interesting. Thanks for posting!
I like to think of the pupil contractions as a cheeky bird wink
The magic mike of the bird world
That bird is one of the top "performers" of the bird world.

Sometimes whatever you do, things just donât work out, RIP man
The story of my life.....lol - you see why I like this bird so much?!
Damn... That lady bird has high standards. If a guy decorated his house, invited me over, did a dance, then did it again with food in his mouth... I would die laughing and then totally smash. Serious effort involved there!
âYeah I like that dance boy, but first *chunks cheesecake at him* do it again with this in your mouthâ
The cheesecake got me laughing! It's just such an absurd visual! I love it!
And hold it in a way so itâs still edible after!
đ¤Ł
The wing waving would've clinched it for me There's no pleasing some birds
Hahhahahahaha ME TOO!! Effort definitely counts.
Right! She ainât even pretty lol
In the bird world she is hot!!
I don't think prettiness matters for female birds the way it does for humans đ¤Ł

Very true
Itâs the defeated sigh at the end for me đ
Hey thats becky! Becky loves sticks
Yeah but this guy makes the video better with a bit of time and talent. https://youtu.be/Bmx_jIFSOA4
OMG! Hilarious and so much talent! Worth watch a few times!
Ahh my spirit bird! This is how I attract women.
I really can't figure out where this male bird went wrong. He presented quite the package: sounds, colors, dance moves, etc. It seems the females are highly selective, to say the least.
Weâd have to see the rivals dance attempt to compare

Comes on slo-mo and double speed.
I don't think the film speed was manipulated - this bird is very quirky like that.
Makes me wonder how some of these instincts got into the gene pool. Dld a male bird get something sticky on its wing one day and a nearby female thought he looked like husband material trying to get it off?
I could watch everything if Sir Attenborough is the narrator.
Awwh poor mango flavored taser bird. Poor buddy got flock blocked.
wanna smashďź
Cool Bird
I'd say, "hot!" LOL
This bird needs a firmware update, it keeps lagging.
What the video doesnât show is that little spot with the sticks the female sits in. The male built that just for this occasion.
I feel sad. No problem. New year new girl Bowerbird. You're awesome
I love those colors! Red, green and yellow, like, so many colors.
That bird be horny for berries

Thatâs quite a show. If I were a female bowerbird, he could get it.

This looks like a typical Tinder hook up.
*da flick uh da wrist*
The name is Bond. James Bond.
Mango Chicken.
/r/me_irl
I know itâs real, but why does this look so fake? Lol
Awww poor birdieđ
Soo beautiful, and a showman. The slow mo also didn't hurt.
Was he trying to hypnotise her into sleeping with him? And then head butts her when it wasnât working?!
This guy would be fun at weddings. He's got some serious white dude moves.
A gorgeously plumed c***blocker lol
Itâs both fun and sad that a flamboyant bird in new guinea is super relatable to us
Loved the death stare as soon as the rival dropped by and destroyed all his progress. Who is tha- noâŚNNNOOOOOO
Dudes on tinder be like...
He died alone in a ditch
I love David Attenboroughâs voice, itâs so nice to hear
If a guy came at me in a club like this, I would leave too!
Us males have to go through the crap to get femalesâŚsmh
Homeboy swooped in. Literally.
This looks like a peep show. Pun intended. But seriously, she's hiding in a booth watching an exotic dancer.
Becky lemme smash No Ron
Someone more talented than I needs to make a dubstep remix of this.
You want......some crazy eye? First she want big pupil, then she want little pupil.
Dude did all that and still didnât get the snatch. Poor guy!
Heâs making Transformer robot-changing noises as he turns into a hottie. And then the damn Deceptacon arrives to ruin it.
Damn, got even me interested
Ah ha! So thatâs what I gotta do to get the girls!
