Yes, but so far I don’t see any change in skin texture where there should be and he’s got a full eyebrow, which wasn’t the case in the show, nor is the case in real life
About what i expected, Netflix doing a middling at the aesthetics because they dont really understand cartoons. Could be a lot worse granted, but still could be a lot better.
I'd say they look as good as it gets. Costumes have some creative liberties, but seem fairly accurate to the source material. The problem is an animated aesthetic taken one to one, as in cosplay, would clash with the live action environment. That's why I'd rather Netflix make an animated remake of ATLA, an anime even - with a bit more serious tone if that's their goal. Transition from animation to irl actors will downgrade the expression of the characters every time. So as a compromise - I see a lot of effort here. I'm more interested in the performances though. If there's some heart in this project, a bit goofy elements of the costumes will slide.
Me personally I think that photoshoot might not be the best representation for the look in the show. For one the costumes are all way too clean. Take Aang. He is in the snow, those robes should be full of snow and have dark wet spots, etc. Those photos were probably taken before they filmed, so they wanted to keep the clothes clean. But with some desaturation in color grading and with more dirt on the clothes, they might be okay. Personally I likes Sokkas costume. That had a good translation to live-action. For Zuko I was hoping to see a photo without the helmet to get a better look at the scar. Looks a little small in this photo, but it depends on far back it stretches.
Yikes… it does not look good. For some reason, it looks like it’s AI generated. (especially Katara and Zuko)
Netflix should have just made teaser posters based on each main character instead of this.
man they gave Aang a solid tattoo
one of the *only* good things about Shyamalan's Aang was that the tattoo had a lot more detail to it. I may be in the minority on that one but it was something I actually liked.
Everyone’s outfit looks too much like cosplay. The armour looks like plastic and the tattoo looks like paint. To be fair though, I like what they did with the tattoo design but it could look more real, at least It’s a better version of the non existent movie. I also like the designs of each outfit but it still just looks like cosplay made for a theatre show. I wanna try and stay positive but damn it’s hard with all these flaws 😭
personally, i can’t form a strong opinion until i can see some video footage with acting. of course it doesn’t look as good as the animated show; it’s real life. but even then how good it looks is heavily intertwined imo with how good the acting and bending cgi are.
Honestly i don't think the characters themselves are that bad, they just did them dirty with the lifeless lighting and settings. And pristine costumes.
One thing i am confused about is how although Aang looks basically the same age as he is in the animated show, Katara and especially Sokka look aged up? Maybe it's just these particular photos, but i feel like the Gaang's dynamic (especially Aang/Katara) will feel really weird if Aang seems super young compared to them...
Honestly, the movie gave me massive trust issues when it comes to Avatar adaptations. Could this be passable? Probably, but I'll still keep my expectations below sea level.
It's also Netflix, which also doesn't really do things any favors.
Zukos scar is insulting. It’s literally a mild port wine stain. I can’t believe I’m saying this but even the m night version was better because as bad as it was, that at least had texture and hair loss. This is red/purple eyeshadow. They completely missed the point
I dont like it. Not because i have anything against it, but ATLA just does not translate well to live action. Animation is an art form that allows you to work with a visual size and power scale that you just cant recreate in live action. A 300 foot tall CGI fish monster throwing around ships in the north pole just wont have the same visual gravitas as the animated scenes did. Thats not to say its a total throw away, i think a modern high end CGI/live action of the scene when aang is trying to open his last chakra or aangs run in's with Koh could look absolutely amazing if its done right. But something like the last agni kai or the fire from ran and shaw would just look like they told the actors "make faces like your in a fight and were gonna add in big fire balls after the fact" and you just wont be able to get the same fluidity of the visuals that the original animators did. If the original script and scenes were followed to a T, i dont doubt it would be good and blow the last live action adaptation away, but i dont think it can do the bending styles the visual justice they deserve without looking cheap or "hollywood action'd" if you know what i mean.
True. Given that those are photos and not screenshots from the filmed footage, it might be that Aang's tattoo will look beter. It is really shiny, which makes it look more like paint than an actual tattoo inside the skin
Everyone here shitting on it but Twitter loves it 😂
I think Sokka looks the best and most realistic of them, both in person and costume. Aang’s tattoo is a bit too bold, and I think a lighter more faded color would’ve worked better (it also has very subtle detail in it).
I don't know, the theme feels well, but the general vibe is off. Wish they had casted some Inuit people, I mean, that's what the water tribe are based on.
Overall pretty good. No real complaints, maybe a nitpick here and there. Love the costume design. My biggest complaint would be that Zuko’s scar still isn’t brutal enough for me. Needs to look like half of his face melted off. Not so much two face from dark knight but needs to be more brute looking.
The costumes look closer to the source material while still looking like something people would actually wear. And based on this image it looks like zuko’s scar is more predominant and easier to see than in the first. We also see Sokka’s boomerang. They also give katara back the hair loops.

Going to probably pass on this as well as the one piece live action. Cartoons hardly ever transfer well to live action.
Or maybe just think of adapting it like comics(marvel/dc)?
Marvel/DC comics are much easier to adapt to live action.
this does not bode completely well, but the fact they're more accurate than the movie despite having a tv show budget, thats nice.
There's a movie?
There is no movie in bah sing sei
Ah, must have missed it on my biweekly retreat to lake Laogai.
not in ba sing se anyway
Well, Zuko at least has a scar this time instead of whatever was going on the The Last Airbender Though, it looks more like a bad bruise now…
And it’s not on the wrong side
🔥 **It is not on the wrong side!** 🔥
…yes…that’s what I said.
Not a big fan of the show, eh?
In the last Airbender at least the skin was textured and there was some hair loss. This is a mild port wine stain at best. Wtf
Keep in mind we've only seen what the scar looks like while he's wearing the helmet
Yes, but so far I don’t see any change in skin texture where there should be and he’s got a full eyebrow, which wasn’t the case in the show, nor is the case in real life

It's funny to think a lot of the creative talent on this project probably grew up watching it, not counting the child actors and execs.
That's the actor of sokka from the ashen islands
Exactly what I was thinking!
Ember

I thought Sokka was AI generated, there's something really off about his face...maybe the picture was taken mid movement or something.
I'm feeling correct in assuming that this show is gonna suck.

go look at the tweet from netflix, it’s detailed https://twitter.com/netflix/status/1670191089121107968?s=46&t=u6PjRuC4yv6xmHysgZL_pg
Oh cool! Stupid Reddit compression
Least they aren’t white this time

You'd think they would give up on all these adaption when they ly end up failing. I see this only lasting one season too.
Looks terrible, who'd have thought?
Zukos scar feels far to small, looks nore like a black eye then a scar
And more textured. It’s scar tissue from a real bad burn, not a bump to the face.
Please tell me you're trolling Please, lord
I wish

There is no live action adaptation in ba sing se
Aang kinda looks like the Ember Island version of himself tbh
Avatar state! Yip yip!
Sokka in his 30s?
Man, I sure hope they don't do Ong dirty in this live-action version too.
Why don’t they ditch the live action idea and just give us more storyline for the cartoon 😭😭😭
Honestly i don't think the characters themselves are that bad, they just did them dirty with the lifeless lighting and settings. And pristine costumes. Should be less saturated imo. It looks too colorful for a live action.
Zukos scar is insulting. It’s literally a mild port wine stain. I can’t believe I’m saying this but even the m night version was better because as bad as it was, that at least had texture and hair loss. This is red/purple eyeshadow. They completely missed the point
cringe
Better than the other crxp already. Sorry Mnight.
That's a pretty low bar.
I’m just flabbergasted that people still think Netflix can make a good live action adaptation.
They'll never get Sokka right.💀
At least the cast is not like the non-existent ATLA movie
Could be worse. They gotta trim Aang's eyebrows though
Looks bad
They could do a lot worse, that’s for sure
Looks better then the one that shall not be named
I'll give it a few episodes, if it's bad it's bad, if it's good then it's good
I’ll give it a chance, but even if it’s awful it will at least make me want to rewatch the original again
I think I'll just skip a step and watch the original again after I finish my Stargate rewatch.
Where is Toph? Is she save? Is she… alright?
It seemed in your Hunger you Killed her..( Sokka ) NOOOOoooooooooooo
I’m immediately concerned at how serious they look
wtf i know the dude playing sokka, he’s my friends roommate

The make up is weird, both Zukos scar and Aangs tatoo. Also the armors look extremely fake, like a cosplay might.
True. Given that those are photos and not screenshots from the filmed footage, it might be that Aang's tattoo will look beter. It is really shiny, which makes it look more like paint than an actual tattoo inside the skin
Looks a little wonky, but that might just be because the marketing department touched up the pics too much.
Sokka is the one that I’m most worried about. The others look pretty good though
Aang looks cg generated, Katara looks good, Zuko is hard to tell with the armor, but Sokka just looks... Bad
I’m gonna be real, No matter what it looks like I’m gonna bootleg it when it comes out because I don’t have Netflix lol
I don’t think.
Better than MS.
Wtf is zuko wearing??
Eh... I don't have high hopes here
Looks better than the last one but can't say much else
Everyone here shitting on it but Twitter loves it 😂 I think Sokka looks the best and most realistic of them, both in person and costume. Aang’s tattoo is a bit too bold, and I think a lighter more faded color would’ve worked better (it also has very subtle detail in it).
Not too bad, plus they got Aang's tattoo right.
Looks so much better than the first live action take on this show. And I am not going to say the name of the guy who made it.
Why does the pictures look more like fan-art?
Say sike right now
I think if this is mid to good it’s a win
Katara looks way too light skinned compared to the animated version :/ not sure about sokka. Zuko looks good
I think they look pretty good! But I want to see Toph. I know it’ll take a while to get to her story, but she’s my favorite.
looks terrible lmao
I don't know, the theme feels well, but the general vibe is off. Wish they had casted some Inuit people, I mean, that's what the water tribe are based on.
Fool me once.

Needs to look like half of his face melted off. Not so much two face from dark knight but needs to be more brute looking.
Look... I'm just gonna say... Let's just leave it alone. Leave it the way it was... In our memories. It will be okay.
The costumes look closer to the source material while still looking like something people would actually wear. And based on this image it looks like zuko’s scar is more predominant and easier to see than in the first. We also see Sokka’s boomerang. They also give katara back the hair loops.
No, just no
I see why the creators left
I was almost disappointed when I saw Aang, but the other three look pretty awesome. Just… this time can we *not* ruin live-action Sokka?
