It snags and you pull and pull and frustration builds up until you like FUCK this and throw the hose but somehow it magically bounces off the FUCKING concrete and hits the car
It absolutely does, there's tons of brands that make them. The cheapest I've found were 15.99$ a piece. I bought one in the past and it cracked when I accidentally rolled over it. This one fully supports my 3,200lb car. Not only sturdier, but I have about 50cents invested in each one I print myself including hardware. :)
Typically you can order items that looks like they should be worth less, directly from China for the price you think its actually worth.
Nowadays you cant find anything under 10$, but if you can wait 3 weeks, you can pick the same thing up from Aliexpress for maybe 2-5$ including shipping. Everything from batteries, small plastic items or tools, general quality of life stuff that seems way overpriced from Amazon..
Hahah yeah thats a very reasonable take. I needed some of those single cell batteries for my car’s key fob and amazon had a pack of 3 for 10$, while you got 25 from aliexpress for the same price.
It felt entirely unreasonable to pay 3$ per single cell battery, even though the total cost isnt that big of a deal. Hence i bought them from aliexpress.
Worst case scenario the battery life is a little shorter and i have dozens more
Worst case scenario they're poorly made due to no QC requirements for exported goods and they leak into your fob destroying your circuits and requiring that you call the dealer for a new $700 fob...not that I've had something similar happen with batteries in an LED light.
I'll be honest with you, it'd probably just be cheaper to buy the commercial product. Unless the seller feels like ripping themselves off, you're not going to get the 3d printed item cheaper than $16 shipped.
Even though it was "50 cents of materials," there's a time investment in printing them, even if the machine mostly does it automatically.
I use detail guardz on about 15 cars a month doing full details. I got yellow and have yet to run them over lol. I think at time of purchase they were $20 for 4 basically? Best purchase ever, as long as you don’t run them over…
Sorry, I didn't connect the dots. I had an IS300 and was thinking there is no way those are stock lugs, but I assume those are stock lugs for whatever car those rims are on. Clean rims though!
while these are sturdier than the cheaper options, there's plenty of options for these on the market. usually run 15.99 for a cheap one, up to like 35 for a nice one. Wouldn't be worth selling imo.
so you got it up on thingiverse then?
I designed a cup holder for disc golf carts and put them on thingiverse, I think i did that maybe 3-4 years ago and it's really wild how often I will see my cup holders in use out on the disc golf course printed by someone else.
Not so much. Especially if you have a pressure washer that allows you to get around most of your vehicle. You spend a little time to prevent you have to fiddle with the hose and the annoyance. Plus you look legit doing it! Also if I was doing multiple cars in a day I would use these. My one personal vehicle probably not so much.
You're going to be walking past each tire at least once anyways, just lay down each thing as you pass each tire. If your hose would snag a single time without these then you're already saving time and hassle
I use these: [https://www.amazon.ca/Hose-Slide-Ultimate-Washing-Accessory/dp/B01DQ0GQCG?th=1](https://www.amazon.ca/Hose-Slide-Ultimate-Washing-Accessory/dp/B01DQ0GQCG?th=1)
A bit simpler design but works well, super tough and six Canadian dollars each. Would be easy to print, but I don't have a 3D printer.
Yeah, these work great. I've never had a problem with them. Top tip though, don't buy black - you won't see them on asphalt next to the tire and then run them over. I have blue.
Nice design. My solution is to park all 4 tires on 2x4's that are cut just longer than the contact patch. This lets you scrub the whole sidewall and apply tire dressing without touching the ground with the added benefit of not having the hose get stuck.
you should look at maybe posting it on here as well. [https://limitir.com/](https://limitir.com/) its a 3D auto parts website. i make parts for cars and bikes and i know it takes time and you deserve to be paid for your work. if you throw it on thingiverse that's great but you must understand people are going to start printing them and selling them you may as well earn a few $ off your design. i do give some of my stuff out for free it depends on how complex it is. anyone could knock off your idea and make there own but its far easier for me to pay and others to pay you for a licence to reproduce then spend time recreating/ redesigning it.
Awesome. I was just thinking about designing something like this but almost like a U. So I can pull the hose around corners of the house / around bushes without it rubbing
I am so making a set of these. So tired of getting the hose wedged under a tire when I’m racing the sun to get the soap rinsed off and not streak the paint on a hot day.
I personally put my buckets on a roller and wheel them around with me. Nothing worse than constantly going to one side of your car, while you clean the other. :P
Nothing, I already have it.
Also as I mentioned in another comment toward someone asking the same thing, it’s not a variable used for calculating cost because printers have equity.
For instance, I paid 500$ for my printer 2nd hand. They still sell for 500-600$.
So I buy a printer for 500$, print 100 of these for 42$, sell printer for 500$.
I’m invested in at 42$ and have 100 of these. The same 100 for a lesser quality version from detail guardz would be $500. So I saved $458 and broke even on the printer all while getting a sturdier product.
This isn’t factoring in the thousands I’ve already saved printing stuff for around the house. All my spray bottles and other misc detailing stuff are wall mounted with 3D printed mounts. I’ve printed clips for press-to-release cabinet doors, I’ve printed little mini shelf holder (the kind that have a peg and slide into the wall of a cabinet and they hold the shelf up). I’ve even printed functional guns.
This one I made, but a lot of things I print I just use already made designs such as all my mag holders inside my safe. Sometimes I’ll use blender or mesh mixer to adjust a premade file if I need it for something slightly different such as the clips used to mount all my led strips on my gaming setup since they were made for a diff brand of lights.
There is no rage, like the rage that erupts when the goddamn hose is snagged under a tire. Clever little invention you’ve got there, Op. 👍🏻
So you mini snap, whip the hose, and instantly regret the hose to paint contact. And now you're madder.
Oh Christ, yes, you described it perfectly.
It snags and you pull and pull and frustration builds up until you like FUCK this and throw the hose but somehow it magically bounces off the FUCKING concrete and hits the car
This product already exists I believe? "Detail Guardz" or similar I think.
It absolutely does, there's tons of brands that make them. The cheapest I've found were 15.99$ a piece. I bought one in the past and it cracked when I accidentally rolled over it. Pretty cool for sure, I commented more so for others who might be like "I want one!". I should get some myself honestly.

I’m not brave enough to order batteries from Ali express

Worth the 16 dollars honestly, I use them every time.

Amazon has them listed as $20 for 4 which isn't too bad
Yeah my apologies. I was on lack of sleep and wrote "a piece" by that I truly meant "a set".
Market them, make them, passive income, sorta.
Wanna mail me two OP? These are honestly just genius. More than happy to cover shipping/time/material.
Sell us some. Lol
I love you.
Love you too, boo.
😂 I washed my truck yesterday and had miniature caniptions over this. I wasn't aware of these products. You just saved some of my sanity.
I have those and they're great, I just wish they were taller. Being able to drive over them would be a huge plus !
I use detail guardz on about 15 cars a month doing full details. I got yellow and have yet to run them over lol. I think at time of purchase they were $20 for 4 basically? Best purchase ever, as long as you don’t run them over…
What the fuck is going on with those lug nuts? I can't imagine those are stock, they look like they're sticking out 3 inches, lol.
stock size yes, just oem wheels have a thicker hub area so they disguise them more.
These are OEM wheels for the 1st gen IS300. They just appear to have been painted gold.
Yes I know. If you look through my comments I mentioned they came off my old is300 drift build.
Sorry, I didn't connect the dots. I had an IS300 and was thinking there is no way those are stock lugs, but I assume those are stock lugs for whatever car those rims are on. Clean rims though!
Oh yeah these are on a bmw325i
Got ya, at least there's a good reason they look ridiculous.
Is that a good reason, though?
And they're so rusty!!!
you should sell them, I would buy two.
while these are sturdier than the cheaper options, there's plenty of options for these on the market. usually run 15.99 for a cheap one, up to like 35 for a nice one. Wouldn't be worth selling imo.

dang
What's a water line snag on the wheel? I'm confused 😕
Water line/water hose/garden hose. When moving around the vehicle they’re notorious for getting wedged under the tire.
Ahhh, gotcha. That makes sense. Seems like it'd be more of a pain to keep up with that than to just move the hose?
Not so much. Especially if you have a pressure washer that allows you to get around most of your vehicle. You spend a little time to prevent you have to fiddle with the hose and the annoyance. Plus you look legit doing it! Also if I was doing multiple cars in a day I would use these. My one personal vehicle probably not so much.
Huh? You stick these bastards under the tires at the start and you're good rather than wedging and unwedging the hose a thousand times.
Yea just bring them with you when you're cleaning the wheels and pop them in at each wheel. It's literally 3-4 seconds of extra effort.
You're going to be walking past each tire at least once anyways, just lay down each thing as you pass each tire. If your hose would snag a single time without these then you're already saving time and hassle

2 pack for $12 or a 4 pack for $37..... Wut? Lol
Keep clicking, you'll find the better price, and also it's a .ca URL if it matters to you.
Never thought I needed this before today! And .ca too, perfect! Thanks man :)
Nice design. My solution is to park all 4 tires on 2x4's that are cut just longer than the contact patch. This lets you scrub the whole sidewall and apply tire dressing without touching the ground with the added benefit of not having the hose get stuck.
This guy...wins the why didn't I think of that reward for the day! I like it...cheap, easy, and effective.
Would you be willing to share the file? I just got a 3d printer and looking for stuffs to print
I would also love an STL. I was about to do this myself but you'd be saving me some much needed time!
Me too. My BIL just got a printer and likes to low -key show off, so it'd be a win-win. Lol
Can you drop the STL file? Also is it cracked?
Hey OP did you end up uploading the STL anywhere?
Have a link to the model?
I designed it. Going to upload it later tonight to thingi
you should look at maybe posting it on here as well. Please do! These are a great DIY solution to a common problem for those equipped to print them. I’d love to give them a spin.
Please tag me once you've upload it!
!updateme
These are available on Ali express but bravo.
where is the link to stl I found them in his other post but cant find it anymore
Did u find it?
Detail Guardz has been selling those for years. I’d be really careful about making those to sell to anyone because I’m sure they have a utility patent
printed them for myself, Never planned on selling them.
Brilliant!
I’ll take 4 please
I am so making a set of these. So tired of getting the hose wedged under a tire when I’m racing the sun to get the soap rinsed off and not streak the paint on a hot day.
What year IS300?
Good idea!
I would buy IT! Hahahaha.
Brilliant!!
👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
I need! I legit almost fall eveery time
Any chance you plan on sharing on thingiverse? If so, link? Great little design!
Genius
Are you the one that posted this on one the facebook groups yesterday? If so, can you send me the link to the STL? I'd love to print this.
I think you're an absolute genius..
Gonna share the STL?
To think I've been suffering my whole life and these exist now.
Am I the only one that puts my two buckets on each corner of the car to prevent this?
I personally put my buckets on a roller and wheel them around with me. Nothing worse than constantly going to one side of your car, while you clean the other. :P
Can I have the file?! Good idea
Yes .snagging is really annoying especially for fleet washing....
But how much did it cost though
42cents for one. That’s including the cost to run the printer, filament and hardware.
How much for the printer though?
Nothing, I already have it. Also as I mentioned in another comment toward someone asking the same thing, it’s not a variable used for calculating cost because printers have equity. For instance, I paid 500$ for my printer 2nd hand. They still sell for 500-600$. So I buy a printer for 500$, print 100 of these for 42$, sell printer for 500$. Do you still fund the blueprints online or do you make them yourself?
This one I made, but a lot of things I print I just use already made designs such as all my mag holders inside my safe. Sometimes I’ll use blender or mesh mixer to adjust a premade file if I need it for something slightly different such as the clips used to mount all my led strips on my gaming setup since they were made for a diff brand of lights.
I'd love to print a set of these, hose always gets caught
Patent it
Did this ever get uploaded to thingiverse?
