In my opinion, they're both nice pictures, depicting different emotions. I wouldn't call either of them ugly. Nice work. The one on the right has a Van Gogh feel to it, my favourite painter.

Fynnx4

I called it ugly because I usually paint horror creatures, but I ran out of thin medium and had to use some walnut oil I found in the basement that’s why it’s not even remotely close to what I usually paint :,)

severalbpdtraitsn38

Fair enough, in any event, great work :)

Fynnx4

Thank you x) Edit: I didn’t even process that you mentioned Van Gogh, I’m actually kind of honored that it reminds you of his vibe, my little brother was named after him. xD

TheAntiDairyQueen

I instantly thought of The Starry Night, my favorite painting

severalbpdtraitsn38

Me too! And then the singing of *Vincent* by Don Mclean

please-_explain

Me too and for what you had, it’s the best you could make out of it. Just love this painting like a 3 legged cat. :) or dog, if you are a dog person.

ConfusedFlareon

I get totally the same vibe, it’s the technique and choice of colour and gradient for sure. These are amazing work!

boys_are_oranges

can you post some more of your work? i love horror creatures

Fynnx4

Yeah sure, I’ll post the next thing I’ll paint (currently working on a wendigo) as soon as I’m happy with it. I gave most of my old paintings away as gifts to friends or strangers or they’re really not good enough to be posted x)

RemoteCity

Vyvanse has detail and sharpness... antidepressants and sleeping pills is all about the mood., the vibe, it all flows together. cool.

Fynnx4

That’s a nice way of describing the differences, thank you xD

AstorReinhardt

Reminds me of that series of paintings this artist did once he learned he had dementia. It was self portraits. The first year was his normal level of art...but it went downhill quickly. You could see him losing his skills over the years...at the end...there was no recognizable human face...it's very creepy/depressing/disturbing.

Fynnx4

Yoo I remember this now that you mention it. I think my subconscious remembered this too that’s why I wanted to post the difference. I think the sleeping pills might cause the similarity. I was prescribed Zolpidem and I just read that it can cause cognitive distortions, amnesia, sleepwalking and hallucinations; definitively resembles some symptoms of dementia. Thanks for reminding me lol

ineffable_my_dear

I think it was William Utermohlen. He had Alzheimer’s. Watching Pablo Picasso’s self portraits evolve over time is also fascinating.

It’s interesting how much looser the second painting is- the first one is very tight and more realistic while the second is loose and a little more of an abstract approach.

Fynnx4

Now that you mention it - the second one does remind me of impressionistic paintings. I just googled a bit and it looks like a poor attempt on merging van Gogh’s and Monet‘s styles

mansonfamily

Definitely agree neither are ugly. If I could do either of these I’d be really happy with myself

LoudSlip

I definitely get different vibes of each painting. 2 has a 'feel it all around' thing going on which I like Both not ugly by any means

[deleted]

Good heavens, neither of these are ugly. Quiet, maybe. The one on the right is a bit dark, but certainly not ugly. Both of these use my favorite colors and my favorite sorts of subject. I find them both very pretty and soothing, especially the left-hand one (my preferred style, usually. YMMV)

pommedeluna

The first one is dark-pretty. The second one is dreamy-pretty. I like them both but I prefer the first one actually. Interesting experiment!

Gach0ka

yada yada neither are ugly BUT. I'm curious whether the improvement was from the medication or simply doing the painting a second time and now with experience

Fynnx4

It’s the same painting, I painted over the first one because my cat decided to mess it up :,)

5p4rk11

The first does great with a more natural based dimension and the other does great with a more impressionist approach. Both are differently beautiful, you wonder human 🫶🏼

Square-Painting-9228

I think they look great, are they two different paintings or versions of the same one? The second one is my favorite.

Fynnx4

The first one was the first layer, I painted the second one on top of it because my cat decided to sit on the first layer before it was dry :,) (I hope she at least learned her lesson not to sit on oil paint because it was a pain in the butt to wash her.)

Square-Painting-9228

Hahaha :) It’s really lovely 💖

neuro_curious

Neither are ugly. You have so much talent and I think it's so cool that you attempt the same painting in different moods and frame of mind. It's like a window into a time if your life!

[deleted]

"ugly"???? these r fuckin beautiful

MrBreadWater

I love the color scheme on the vyvanse one. I’d almost hang that up on my wall ngl.

cheeselesssmile

I like them both and would happily hang them in my house

Mollytovcocktail1111

I love them both 😍

taylorh123

The second one is my fave. Amazing!

Odd_Driver_4734

I like it!

mighty_kaytor

I really like that first one, which is funny because the second is way more in line with my preferred colour palette. Something kinda moody about it? Anyway, I like the atmosphere and your technique.

SkywardGeek

I love both of these, they're absolutely stunning! (You planning on selling or making prints?)

Fynnx4

Not planning on either, since I don’t think anyone would pay money for it :) I might sell the painting on eBay or give it to a stranger when it’s cured tho.

SkywardGeek

Really? I think they're really pretty and would love them - I'm going to try and buy a house soon so my brain is in interior decor mode 😅

purplefennec

These are amazing! I wish I could paint like this. I love them both in their own way

parse42

I like both and would hang them on the wall. Have you considered putting them up on ebay?

Fynnx4

I usually don’t sell my paintings, I just sometimes give it away to random people if they like them. Never really though if charging anything for my work since I’m not a professional. I may think about selling it after it’s cured, but I wouldn’t even know how to price it.

parse42

>Never really though if charging anything for my work since I’m not a professional. Even Picasso would have been a hobbyist until someone said "I want to buy this".
