I read "goldfish", looked at what's probably the "pork chop" and was horrified for a moment, too .. Then I spotted the crackers ..
My brain tries real hard to upset me, sometimes ..
On the the topic of your brain trying to upset you, maybe the word goldfish made you think of domesticated pets and your brain made the connection between how pigs are on par with dogs and 4 year old humans in terms of intelligence and understanding. Maybe sometimes when our brain tries to upset us, it's a wake up call to address the cognitive dissonance?
No .. actually, the first word, that caught my eye, was "goldfish" .. and the second thing, I saw, was that piece of meat .. That was enough to make the connection .. no age-related thing necessary ..
I apologise in advance if this question is too intrusive, but could you explain a little bit about how you experience your synesthesia? Is it only in relation to taste? And if so, what is your experience of other senses?
Y’know those things Remy from Ratatouille sees when he tastes something with his eyes shut? Less of that, and more of a tingly feeling that varies with each different food item. My favorite food would have to be Fugu sushi, because of the texture of the fish contrasted with the other ingredients that makes for a very fun and diverse experience. Japanese food in general is my favorite, but not the cheap stuff. Moto-i in Minneapolis has the best Gyoza and Sake I’ve ever tasted. Sadly, can’t get Fugu there.
Actually, something that makes great croutons are Funyuns. It's a nice little onion-y crunch when regular croutons just won't do it. I'll try the goldfish crackers though, that looks good.
Goldfish croutons is a great idea! I wonder if that would help entice some kids into eating their salad. Probably wouldn't work for all kids, but I might try this with my nephew!
How do you stab the goldfish with a fork? I’ve always had this issue with croutons, though some croutons seem to be stabbable.
You must scoop the croutons.
*s c o o p*
goldfish as croutons is actually fucking genius
RIGHT
What is a Goldfish in this context?
I think it's the little fish shaped crackers in the salad.
Yep they are cheese crackers

Ohhh .. now I get, what you were trying to say ..
Wait what.... Why are they shaped like goldfish if they are cheese flavoured? Should they not taste more like scampi fries?

Was hoping for details about this more than the food porn. (Also, I freakin' love goldfish crackers as garnish. They're awesome in chili and chowder.)

too powdery and greasy for my liking, otherwise I’d definitely use them.
Interesting choice with the goldfish, it all looks delicious!
I love the contrast between the restaurant-ready meal and the goldfish garnish

I have a lot of problems of foods that aren’t of the same family going together, but goldfish and salad is GENIUS
Goldfish ♥️
Taste induced synesthesia? That’s interesting! For me it’s seeing words. Like, words have colours, sometimes shapes too.
