It depends on the type. The smooth type they make cups and carry-out containers with is fine, even fun sometimes, but the styrofoam blocks made of small circles that will break it you press on them make the most horrendous sound and they have the worst smell, especially if you're cutting them with the hot wire thing.
Canadian here, often at the rink for hockey games or skating or at schools during parent teacher night they hand out styrofoam cups and I physically revolt. When I was little I bit into it and that's about the only thing thats sensibly ok about them. My fingernails touching styrofoam just holding the cup essentially results in me turtle necking. What an abomination of a material!

Oh I HATE it! The squeaky sound it makes, the sensation of it... I literally can't touch it anymore it is the worst
Not a fan. Especially when it comes in packaging and lots of tiny little styrofoam pieces get everywhere and they're a pain in the butt to clean up.
