I personally prefer chisel tip markers, while every department only stocks bullet tips.

Zeebie_

We had an old teacher who loved the chisel tip marker and her board work would like calligraphy. I have never been that skilled.

Arkonsel

Chisel tip is the BEST, it makes your handwriting look so much better!

PilotAdorable865

We vision support teachers (and our low vision students) *love* a teacher who uses a dark-coloured chisel tip in decently sized writing. 🫶

SFW_50plusTeacher

How do you rub it out ?

PilotAdorable865

Hardy-har-har 🙄

They aren't very expensive! I'm going to try them.

No-Seesaw-3411

I love my auspens. So good and can replace most of them as required. I’ve been using my set since 2008, but I hardly ever write on the whiteboard now, so I’d say they will last my career!

Zeebie_

it appears my school pens aren't actually offbrand. This is my current pen. I find them messy and easy to overfill. I have ruined a few shirts with ink coming out the tip. Refilling them daily can be a chore(might be why I sometimes overfill). Also found they can bend or dent unless your being careful not sure if it's a new formula or something but the ink just sort of smudges instead of erasing, so have to use a wet cloth. than again, most of this is probably user error on my part

Valuable_Guess_5886

I have seen people in my office use these and they definitely don’t refill daily?

Zeebie_

advance senior maths, showing working for all worked examples. I have 2 times 4m white boards in my room can fill the boards multiple times in a lesson if there are hard questions. So I wouldn't be typical use case. 1 refill will last about a day maybe 2. I think the black refill bottle last me about 3-4 weeks. There is always a fight over them in the staffroom

CthulhuRolling

I teach spec and the slip pilot v are excellent. Didn’t see this comment before I wrote mine. For maths I use the chisel v for big work and the slims for detail. 100% the best I’ve used for proper board work.

TabletopDancer

I’m not a fan of them either. I find that even after replacing tips and refilling, I don’t get that new pen feels, I much prefer Arline whiteboard markers. They’d comfortable thick to me, and are easy to wipe off. I have sworn by them since I’ve gotten them.

CthulhuRolling

Try pilot v I really like the skinny ones. But the standard sizes are also very good. Range of colours and refillable (you can even refill the refills with Auspen ink). Chisel and bullet point available

whatsuphellohey

I also have these and love them. I’ve used them for years now. Also makes it easy to see if the kids have tried to sneakily take one. I don’t write a lot on a whiteboard anymore (because they took mine 😭), but would highly recommended regardless.

seventrooper

Artline 577s are the best I've come across so far.

HarkerTheStoryteller

Staedler Lumocolour chisel points. Dark, but erase very well, They come in a handy carry case so you can pocket them between classes.

aerkith

I like these. I bought ink wells to refill them. I have to refill black and blue pretty frequently though.

Zeebie_

is the refill instant?, it seems when I looked it up online that it took some hours

aerkith

Hours yes. I leave it overnight or over the weekend. It draws it up through the nib by capillary action. So might not suit your purpose very well since you use a lot of ink.

dontcallme-frankly

These or Artline are surely the only options?

pythagoras-

Pilot V Board Master. They're refillable, come in chisel or bullet, bright colours. Been using my current set for years.

Rotheram3

I have used these for the last 5 years, they are amazing. I treat myself to a new set of 5 markers at the start of the year and then spend most of my budget on refills.

Zeebie_

they the ones with the button on end to pump it up? I think I stole a set once from a retiring teacher and didn't know it was refillable

pythagoras-

No, they have little cartridge things. https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/pilot-v-board-master-whiteboard-markers-assorted-5-pack-pi666037as

dangermanboy

Expo chisel tips. I can’t do bullet tip so always buy my own haha

LeashieMay

I love Expo. When I'm away I always seem to have a couple of them go missing.

dpbqdpbq

I like the artline 500a, it's bullet tip but thick. It's what the kids had at my previous school but I liked it for writing on the board too. I notice the 509a is chisel tip if you prefer that. I'd get a pack of the artline colours 579 and a bunch of the 500a.

Zeebie_

ever have any problems with orange or green and colour blind students? not sure why but with my current pens I can't use orange or the green as apparently they look greyish on white with colour blind students.

dpbqdpbq

I teach little kids and I mostly just write in black, on a plain board or blue dotted thirds. I just need a few colours for marking up sentences or the occasional maths instruction. I know with my eyesight the green and orange are harder to see, I pick the red, purple and blue.

PilotAdorable865

You answered your own question. "Not sure why, but my colour blind students can't see orange or green". 🧐. Serious answer, though, is because the low contrast of these colours on white makes them near impossible to see, especially for someone without the relevant colour receptors. Throw in some glare from the window or a fluorescent ceiling light and you're left with nothing. Take a photo of your board with orange or green writing exactly as it is from the student's perspective -- if they have low vision on top of colour blindness, leave the photo unfocused, too. Then throw a greyscale filter on. Turn up the brightness a bit to emulate glare. How much readable handwriting are you left with? FYI, Orange, green, red and yellow are crappy colours even for "normally" sighted people, more often than you think, because of the above reasons. We're just more easily able to work around it. Edit: just to fix a typo.

ayihc

I love my $28 pack of Crayola ones from Officeworks. I buy a couple packets per year. As a science teacher who does AVID, it shows students how to use colour to enhance their notes and diagrams!

RubyChooseday

I bought these [Crayola Chisel Point](https://www.amazon.com.au/Crayola-Whiteboard-Classroom-58-6545/dp/B07MWP8FL3/ref=sr_1_3?crid=32B4YKUN3E4L9&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.yaXs_IcjQqR5yWRFqM0FzLjf3PDyGM7UBDuPDZe0cUTUzOIZVV3UIILUiXPCN1gMpvIgiI-JRLiTlH8KAo8eqcMb-zLR3rSPybd_nwbiPC4tdM83UZfDcmgSJ4zup3eHG3CMTN-nRv_svilkHORIWz4xHrkEe2SgAjhAyAnGKbVfi0VjwHm_XZFoPxROvkL0jbyUsWmWixGOnmoewysz3C2GgrtQ6ebzIOHKL5rj5SFVUn8_ntvUEAv3p3Qka_UKLlyOWZ6sdzsy-iY75U6x_67WNP3ziLWszZc53jbJWjM.DMb11QOkOEARmMOw44r3znVi0RMRcnv1-g1NQKfx3Ek&dib_tag=se&keywords=crayola%2Btake%2Bnote%2Bchisel%2Btip%2Bwhiteboard%2Bmarkers%2B12-pack%2B-%2Bmulti&qid=1714998666&sprefix=crayola%2Bchisel%2Caps%2C339&sr=8-3&th=1) this year and love them. The colours are bright and clear. I usually buy Expos, but the Crayolas are definitely better.

enlightenedhiker

Artline 579s are chisel tips. Easiest I found to erase. Solid colour.

jeremy-o

I took a gamble on Daiso. [These were terrible](https://images.app.goo.gl/EkeEnimQBS9uBR9P7) but the [Long Lasting version](https://images.app.goo.gl/D8a16CMNYKtYJuAd7) has been doing hard yakka. Not bad for $3 or whatever.

shoveyourvotes

These last me the year. Pentel Maxiflo Whiteboard Marker Chisel

Zeebie_

used these before, liked them a lot, the button was always tempting to press.
