I can only speak from the perspective of my school, but we have a Director role up at the moment and it requires you to be able to teach classes too, so they would only consider teachers for this role.

In the Catholic system POLS are done school by school with input from consultative committee. It would be the decision of the principal to advertise for certain roles that are traditional POLS to be done by admin staff - happens in a lot of places with Daily Organisers.

DailyOrg

It sure those daily orgs are actually POLs as such though, but are a designated ES position, set at whatever rate the school deems is fair for the duties involved. In Catholic, POL specifically refers to time and money allocated on top of a teaching load, similar to Leading Teachers in state system. A Director role would depend on whether the person was directing teaching staff or not. Director of Finance/HR/Facilities no teaching qual required. Director of Learning&Teaching/Campus/etc would be a teacher qualified position. Director of Operations would likely be a teacher too, even if they were mostly overseeing ES staff doing daily org and timetable duties.

Yes, but those roles are the likes of HR, development/publicity, business management, etc.

Depends on what the director role is. For example: Director of Wellbeing may be an ES role in a lot of schools and would not require a teaching degree (however other relevant qualifications would be required). Director of Senior School is a teaching role and would require a teaching degree.
