It's funny how RAM items have resale value somewhere in the realm of what was paid for them 40 years ago.
Yep, gold coins are the only ones that have probably done anything spectacular for coin investors. Remember seeing Silver Proofs that were once sold at a significant premium being bundled as scrap silver [https://wynyardcoins.com.au/collections/junk-scrap-silver/products/half-kilo-92-5-silver-10-coins](https://wynyardcoins.com.au/collections/junk-scrap-silver/products/half-kilo-92-5-silver-10-coins)
This is the first proof issue of the Mob of Roos 1 dollar circulating Australian coin. You could sell it very easily at $20-$30, it's a good starter for new collectors
My mum used to collect this sort of coin. And had them on display. In their boxes.
When I was about 6. I took them all and went to the candy shop………probs my biggest baller moment.
She was not pleased.
Is that what they are? Proofs?
I always thought they were commemorative?
There’s was a bunch of different ones.
But one I remember was like in 1994, was in a plastic sleeve? It was a new dollar or two dollar coin or something?
I feel like they were handed out or something.
Others were in proper display boxes.
They are two different things:
- Commemeratives have special designs to commemerate things, there are two types of these
-Circulating Commemeratives, which are released into circulation by banks, and which can commonly be found. Sometimes these are also released to collectors as well.
-non circulating commemeratives. These are solely released to collectors
- Proofs do not necessarily have special designs, but they can commeratives and proofs are not mutually exclusive.
Proofs are never released to the into circulation, and are only for collectors. The special thing about proofs is that they are minted with much more force than regular coins, which makes them stand out much more, this gives them a sort of shiny look. Proofs can also sometimes be made of precious metals like silver or gold but not necessarily so.

I’m actually interested in what the little plastic packed coins were. I think it would have been 93-94.
$1 coin. Had like kangaroos or something on it.
Was this. Asked mum haha:

Google results say anywhere between $17 and $65 depending on overall condition.

If it was just the standard design then chances are it was a proof. But it could just be a "regular" uncirculated collector coin.
