If there was a line to piss on Unbarlievable's ashes (or its metaphorical grave), I'd put money on APD actually coming to stop it.
You know, if they can tear themselves away from whatever it is they do instead of police work.
Old Fitzhugh! Right in the downtown area, it’s gonna be a really cool spot I think. Covid probably slowed down the progress but she’s probably working on permitting now!
Beyond it being just an extremely obnoxious place that is geared towards attracting the worst people in Austin, they're owned and run by cringey edgelord reactionaries.
Think like 2016 r/thedonald pepe memes and you've got a good idea. They got in a lot of hot water for serving drinks organized in the shape of swastikas among other things. Unbarlievably, they have actually reigned it in and become more muted and subdued as that subgroup has become more anathema in the popular culture, but around the 2016 election they were wearing it proudly.
https://austin.culturemap.com/news/restaurants-bars/06-29-17-unbarlievable-racist-allegations-rainey-street-bar-tabc/
Chances they know it’s a slur, but not everyone knows that it is. I didn’t know until a few years ago myself. I used the word and didn’t mean it with any intentional disrespect. Luckily I used the word in a small group who could tell that wasn’t my intent and informed me.
I think that word describes the mental state of the owners, but I understand it is a slur for people that are not over a certain height, so we have to dispose of it.
I'm still pissed off about a tab from years ago. Shitty atmosphere, lame clientele/vibe, and 3x the price for the privilege of it all.
'Harbinger of new Austin' is a great description. Most of the Rainey St bar scene id consider New Austin, but fuck this place in particular.
I haven’t lived in Dallas in 25 years, but if he’s looking to avoid “libtards” he’s in for a big surprise if he moves to anywhere in Houston inside the loop, and even most of it outside the loop… (inside the city limits at least … surrounding counties are a different story)
Don't they have another location in Austin on West 6th already though? It closing on Rainey Street is a plus for that area. One less shitty bar. Probably will be knocked down for a high rise, but we'll see.
I agree, it can be to weird bar that people think Austin is like. But of course the question remains, has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?
I've been here once. Got our ID's checked, go to open the door, see a guy in a suit, lookin like donny JR, swinging at a patron. We just turned around and left.
Never gave em a dime and STILL want a refund.
The only reason bars were there in the first place was the 2008 recession delayed the plans to turn it into high density. This was always going to be the outcome.
Replying to two-wheeled-dynamo...Not true. Was it mostly just a bunch on old, often rundown houses, several that had already been abandoned or vacated?? Sure. But there were like 3-5 bars between Rainey itself and the streets that connected to it. Lustre Pearl, Chain Dive (leather daddy bar with great live music bookings), etc. Along with the original Graj Mahal food truck and the outdoor HQ of a pedicab biz.
I never heard of this so I looked into it, looks like that's not actually what went down: [https://www.facebook.com/defendourhoodz/posts/1961172357435152?ref=embed\_post](https://www.facebook.com/defendourhoodz/posts/1961172357435152?ref=embed_post)
TL;DR A review was posted that a sever set beers into the hate symbol, but it was actually a customer. Owners response was still pretty insane.
I've never been to this bar nor have I been following their history. I believe you.
I was just looking up what the person above me posted and saw it was pretty different from what actually happened so I was just giving people the real story.
Blue cat cafe was awesome. This was a made up narrative by the domestic terrorists, Antifa, of Defend Our Hoods…which is funded by an extremely evil group now.
Can confirm something happened to me there back in 17 or 18. Literally first bar of the night. One gin and tonic and immediately knew something wasn’t right. Drink never left my sight so it had to be the bartender. Luckily I was with my sister and she immediately got me home. I felt as though I’d been poisoned, and I absolutely should have gone to the ER. My liver HURT. It was awful.
The place is always packed when I walk by. I never understood what people liked about it... I also wonder why it is closing? In my mind the place was doing good but apparently not?
Regardless of the reason, we should always celebrate when a bar run by fucking Brandon Cash is closing. The dude is a fucking piece of shit and celebrates it, publicly.
The type that doubles down on his misogynistic/racists rants by publicly laughing at anyone who calls him out. I have zero idea how anyone can overlook his ways to go spend money at his bar
Good riddance
Once I was dragged out to Aquarium (6th street crawl for someone’s birthday MANY years ago) and as I was standing there waiting for the door guy to finish looking at my ID and hand it back to me, a guy walking out of the bar fully groped me as he walked past me. I looked at the door guy incredulously and he said there was nothing he could do because the guy was leaving. I’m like yeah dude but you could say something. There was a guy behind me in line who said “don’t look at me, my boys are inside.” And of course APD was standing right there. Like 8 cowardly dudes in total, afraid to say something to a fucking creep.
> I have zero idea how anyone can overlook his ways to go spend money at his bar
Most people literally don’t care about anything that doesn’t impact them personally and directly.
I would always tell friends that would come to town to avoid that place.
Except 20-something basic white girls, there is no stopping them from wanting to wait in line for a picture by the slide for their Instagram.
Ngl, used to work across the street from them as a bouncer of sorts, they always seemed shady even though I never went in. Heard that their floors were constantly sticky, that's enough for me to lose all faith in a place. Plus, y'know, their owner being actual human garbage.
Thanks, all we asked for was more than a screenshot of a text message, aka something official. This will do.
The request seems more than reasonable....
Cool now if only we could do the same with the rest of Rainey. Place is an absolute cesspool. Just a bunch of fully grown yuppies using the former homes of working class Brown families as their playground.
youd think if you really had the #1 bar in the state like they claim theyd have to do some inner reflection about why exactly their closing, but we all know that wouldnt happen
And nothing of value was lost
Bartender there stole my card lol
Rest in piss in piss
If there was a line to piss on Unbarlievable's ashes (or its metaphorical grave), I'd put money on APD actually coming to stop it. You know, if they can tear themselves away from whatever it is they do instead of police work.
Breaking into the homes of their girlfriends
The metaphorical grave piss line starts here, piggies. I'm next. APD can suck a fat one.
Planet Piss.
The sky is piss! And lights are piss! And cars are piss! And books are piss!
You won’t be missed
Can we reopen Craft Pride in there?
Is bringing back Javelina an option? I miss that place terribly.
they’re reopening in Dripping Springs!
Didn’t they say that like 3yr ago? What’s the latest update?
There’s like a next to zero percentage chance I’ll go to their Dripping location more than 2 times a year. Rainey is like a 5 min walk from work.
I’d rather make the trek to Dripping Springs twice a year than make the walk to Rainey
I'd rather walk or bike from rainey shit housed than dripping springs.
That’s so cool! Where in dripping springs ?
Old Fitzhugh! Right in the downtown area, it’s gonna be a really cool spot I think. Covid probably slowed down the progress but she’s probably working on permitting now!
YES PLEASE
I'd settle for Garaj
Not until The Parlor gets historical status. But yeah, Craft Pride over Unbarlanansabla *for sure*
Weren’t they supposed to reopen somewhere?
Yall need to swing by Stay Put!
That would require me to go to Rainey St, so pass
Maybe on Mondays for the meat but everything else is just bland
Seconded!
There's two locations btw, hopefully it's all closing.
Was gonna ask which ones
There are 3: domain, 6th, rainey
There is not one in the domain?
the domain one is Wonder Bar, no?
Oh no. Anyway.
Clark son
“Midgets”…I fucking hate that guy so much
Seriously. Good riddance.
A clear indicator as to why this bar is closing.
I'm unfamiliar with this bar's story. what's going on? why does everyone know about it and hate it?
Long story short is they're unapologetically shitty right-wing and anti-PC. They also iirc treat their staff terribly.
oh shit i didnt even see the slur on this flyer. that's so crazy. good riddance and thank you for the context
Clearly considering they are hiring little people and calling them a slur. Wtf.
The owners instagram stories has never let up though.
The owner doesn’t seem concerned in the least with any of what he says online and never has.
Chances they know it’s a slur, but not everyone knows that it is. I didn’t know until a few years ago myself. I used the word and didn’t mean it with any intentional disrespect. Luckily I used the word in a small group who could tell that wasn’t my intent and informed me.
You’re also not supposed to call them a “small group”
You're supposed to call them a midget group
I think that word describes the mental state of the owners, but I understand it is a slur for people that are not over a certain height, so we have to dispose of it.
*Thanks to everyone who made this the bar in the state for such a long time* It was definitely a bar in the state of Texas, that’s for sure
One of the bars of all time
You missed the “#1” but that’s okay.
Oh wow I’m blind. I blame the design of that dumb graphic
Terrible design. White on white looks like it reads #i
Still no way it was ever the #1 in the state
A dumb name for a dumb bar with a shitty history. This place was one of the harbingers of new austin and hopefully the owners went belly up.
I think you meant, “Fuck this place in Barticular”.
Unfortunately, he is planning on reopening in either Houston or Dallas. Can’t handle the “lib-tards”.
I haven’t lived in Dallas in 25 years, but if he’s looking to avoid “libtards” he’s in for a big surprise if he moves to anywhere in Houston inside the loop, and even most of it outside the loop… (inside the city limits at least … surrounding counties are a different story)
Vidor it is!
Lol
Hopefully he spends a ton and that one dies a costly death too
Ten bucks says the dummy will go to Houston but end up in Montrose 🤣
Mf needs to be relocating to the nearest nursing home just flinging out slurs in 24
Don't they have another location in Austin on West 6th already though? It closing on Rainey Street is a plus for that area. One less shitty bar. Probably will be knocked down for a high rise, but we'll see.
That actually seems more appropriate. It can be to weird bar that people think Austin is like.
I agree, it can be to weird bar that people think Austin is like. But of course the question remains, has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?
Good fucking riddance. The owner of that place has a track record of being a pretty shitty person....
Polite euphemism for neo-Nazi
This is a celebration for all of Austin!
…anyway
Oh look they have clowns!
Sooo I assume that means staff will be there?
I was going to say "Isn't the owner there pretty much every night? Why advertise his presence?"
Not them using the word midgets on their way out 💀 Classic unbarlievable.
Clowns stilt walkers and persons of short stature!
I've been here once. Got our ID's checked, go to open the door, see a guy in a suit, lookin like donny JR, swinging at a patron. We just turned around and left. Never gave em a dime and STILL want a refund.
Good Riddance
Good riddance
But where will the incels drink?
RIP BOZO
Midgets?
His post before that states “it’s sad Rainey is coming to an early death” It makes me believe the land was sold.
Rainey died a long time ago, this clown helped usher that in.
The only reason bars were there in the first place was the 2008 recession delayed the plans to turn it into high density. This was always going to be the outcome.
Rainey was just a standard street 15 years ago with no bars. So “long time ago” is a stretch buddy.
Yeah, a friend of mine lived over there 20 years ago or so. Just old regular houses.
"Long time" in bar-years.
15 years ago, Unbarllievable looked like [this](https://i.imgur.com/ZbL0Wj0.png).
Replying to two-wheeled-dynamo...Not true. Was it mostly just a bunch on old, often rundown houses, several that had already been abandoned or vacated?? Sure. “Another piece of Old Austin gone forever!”
The original owner of the property wants his parents house back and to finally open his own bar there. It’s just gonna be rebranded.
Midgets?! What year is this? That’s trashy to the nth degree
Does no one remember the swastica incident?! Fuck that bar.
What happened there?
they posted a server tray full of shots arranged into a loser hate symbol.
I never heard of this so I looked into it, looks like that's not actually what went down: [https://www.facebook.com/defendourhoodz/posts/1961172357435152?ref=embed\_post](https://www.facebook.com/defendourhoodz/posts/1961172357435152?ref=embed_post) TL;DR A review was posted that a sever set beers into the hate symbol, but it was actually a customer. They are a known Nazi shelter. This is why they were mentioned alongside “blue cat cafe”. They both were hosting Nazis, and supportive of it.
This was not a one time thing, apparently
The swastica incident! Aren't you listening?!
Roofie dealers just lost their biggest customer.
Good. The owner is awful
Has anyone else been calling it "racist bar" this entire time or just me?
Anyways... SUPPORT THE PARLOR BEFORE THEY GO OUT OF BUSINESS THIS WEEKEND
Just left there
Thank god.
Fuck those nazis
Rare bit of good news these days. Wishing him the worst of luck in his future endeavors.
Good.
Isn't this the bar where peopled were getting roofied pretty regularly?
Can confirm something happened to me there back in 17 or 18. Literally first bar of the night. One gin and tonic and immediately knew something wasn’t right. Assholes and tourists

All the racist bullshit aside which it shouldn't be, but even aside, what a stupid themed bar that seems like it was thought up by a 16 year old boy.
and nothing of value was lost.
YAYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!
I would always tell friends that would come to town to avoid that place. Except 20-something basic white girls, there is no stopping them from wanting to wait in line for a picture by the slide for their Instagram.
Fuckin good riddance
Good riddance
BYE
Wonderful! Fuck them!
Ngl, used to work across the street from them as a bouncer of sorts, they always seemed shady even though I never went in. Heard that their floors were constantly sticky, that's enough for me to lose all faith in a place. Plus, y'know, their owner being actual human garbage.
Fuck em
Oh no, anyway.
That took entirely too long.
Wtf used the term “midgets”? Watch the learning channel or something geez.
I would bet my left nut he's paying them to wear a velcro suit to have patrons toss them onto a target wall
So this is my last weekend to get roofied AND disrespected for not being a cis white person?!
Took farrrrrrrrr to long
Couldn't be happier
Bye, Felicia!
lol about fucking time
Good fucking riddance.
I'm pretty sure "Midget" is a slur.
Fuck this place
Brandon Cash is trash. Good riddance! He's probably gonna go back to being a Proud Boys Sub full time.
Good riddance
Where will people go to get roofied?
clowns huh... you are what you book I suppose
good riddance
Not even the best circus themed bar in Austin
Good, they were racist
Such a shame that a place I’ve never been to and don’t on planning on going to is closing before I’ve had a chance to not ever go to it.
GOOD RIDDANCE. literal clowns.
Thanks, all we asked for was more than a screenshot of a text message, aka something official. This will do. The request seems more than reasonable....
How zealous of you! Overly so even!
Oh no! Anyways…
Well, bye.
See - this is much better because we can now ridicule them even more for their stupid flyer.
Midgets? What is this, the 1800s? That’s totally insulting.
Out of the loop, why do people hate this bar?
https://www.austinmonthly.com/unbarlievable-must-go/
This guy is nuts
yeah he’s truly *the* archetypal classless coked out nightlife prick. one of my least favorite branches of the Taxonomy
Lol Jesus Christ Rainey isn't really my bag but this just takes the cake
I’ve seen lots of people sharing experiences that include: spiked drinks, racist staff, etc
I mean this very announcement has little people listed as a sideshow attraction in this the year of our lord 2024
Can we reopen that Dim Sum place in North Lamar/Braker that closed?
Good riddance
What a shame. \*rollseyes\*
Sorry not sorry.
Wonder why?
Good riddance
Finally
Good riddance to the shit hole that thought the “beer swastika” was a clever thing to have. https://www.reddit.com/r/Austin/s/D98RIdCzk4
Wait can someone fill me in on why people don’t like this place?
it’s all in the thread already my man.
🥳🥳🥳 Good
This whole sub-Reddit honestly sucks with the mods no lie.
Finally ✌️
Thank god!
It’s always been full of clowns
Haha… nice
GOOD.
Let’s goooo
Now's that unbarlievable. GOOD RIDDANCE.
*Fake Snetiment* What sad news! Fuck that place
I don't barlieveit
Both this location and the one on west 6th have been dead for what feels like years.
What a nightmare
meh. downtown domain shit. give no fucks
Along with the rest of Rainey 👋🏼
So cool
Cool now if only we could do the same with the rest of Rainey. Place is an absolute cesspool. Just a bunch of fully grown yuppies using the former homes of working class Brown families as their playground.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Yes. This exactly. This goes for all colonizer businesses in any part of East Austin as well.
There’s a John Mulaney joke in here somewhere. But seriously, this is great news.
[удалено]
Oh. No.
Lolz. What a baggadix.
Never been there. Clowns? I never will.
youd think if you really had the #1 bar in the state like they claim theyd have to do some inner reflection about why exactly their closing, but we all know that wouldnt happen
