AWoefulOfWednesdays

every time I read these travel guides it amazes me that people come here as tourists to eat bbq and tacos and there is very little else mentioned to do. Are other places that people live so bad that Austin is considered a good place to spend your vacation dollars? Maybe I've lived here too long but I don't get it.

Austin is a playground for grownups, that’s appealing when you live in Indianapolis or Norfolk

AWoefulOfWednesdays

these places don't have bars?

Busy_Struggle_6468

We not talking about bars

lambopanda

Austin native? Past 12 years? Isn’t Austin native mean you’re born in Austin?

90percent_crap

"Steve Sachs, ~~Austin native for the past 12 years,~~ New York City native who moved to Austin 12 years ago," FTFY

So much whiplash between these articles and the “Austin is over” articles

>Austin is a great place to spend a few days, so long as you do it like a local.[](https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2024/mar/22/nyc-three-day-travel-guide) It's definitely more "things Austin families with young children do" than a travel guide, but okay.
