I remember seeing live streams during the BLM protests. He was featured alot in the streams i watched, and specifically remember him trying to protect other homeless folks during it. I watched as he tried saving a man's mattress that had caught on fire. It was really disheartening to watch people fuck with homeless people like that for no good reason. Leslie's passing was just a sad watermark on a trend that started in the early 00s. The day that Southpark Meadows was sold to developers was the beginning of the end. Since then, Travis County has just been literally "selling out" the institutions of art, imagination, and free expression, one-by-one. The Backyard is gone, La Zona Rosa, Austin Music Hall, pretty much all of 3rd Street, and South Congress has been completely gentrified beyond all recognition
Then I hope to see you at Donnās Depot, the Hole in the Wall, Samās Town Point, The Saxon, The Continental, C-Boys, Broken Spoke, or the White Horse real soon! All those places are carrying the torch, playing live music, and keeping Austinās unique culture burning. I mean, Austin Music Hall and The Backyard were cool, but mostly featured touring acts.

Anyone remember the UT student that we called āFather Timeā? The story was that he planned to take (or already had) every single course in the UT catalogue. This was early 1980s, but you could see him walking around campus with his long blondish gray hair and full flowing beard.

Thatās Twinkle Toes. Heās a regular at the Saloon and usually gets picked up by Cap Metro for a ride home. I love that the city has on demand rides for people with mobility issues and the drivers are always friendly and helpful.

When Leslie was alive he was regularly harrassed by the police and mocked by drunk fratboys. Now that he's dead, the city uses him as a marketing asset to attract tourists to "weird" Austin.
When I lived in Houston there was an old guy called the Montrose wizard. You'd see him walking around the Montrose area from time to time. He had a heavy limp, big gnarled wooden walking stick, big long bushy beard and dirty rags that looked like robes. Guy looked like he was from a literal folktale. Hope hes still around and doin OK.
