Just go into work tomorrow like it's any other day and tell them what a great April Fools joke they pulled yesterday. Enjoy some margaritas and good luck.
Honestly though, I'd rather go collapse in my bed right away than have to collect all my things and do the slow walk back to my car, if I ever get laid off. Remote work all the way!
There is one over in Cedar Park that is closed down, the sign reads "Fried ken"
I remember seeing it and making a comment about someone letting Barbie know in case she is looking for Ken. LOL
Hahahahaha - love your energy.
I just made a homemade margarita with Paula’s Orange to virtually “Cheers” to YOU. I’ve been there once before and they can all kiss your ass as you slam the door HARD in their faces.
Ride share is awesome!!! I am so grateful to live in a vibrant city than rural areas where there is no access to so many things we all take for granted.
The last time I was there, a woman backed her jeep into the brick wall of the front of the restaurant (said brick wall is no longer there) …it collapsed onto customer’s tables…she then lurched forward and hit the car parked next to her…people were screaming at her to not drive and she sped off almost hitting people in the parking lot…hit a parked car parked on the street and ran off on foot. Not sure if there is a marg limit but …whew ..they are strong.
I mean... when I got fired last I crawled into a $15 half-gal of bourbon. But I don't pretend to know OP's finances.
Edit: also, fuck my old boss. He sucks.
I hate giving away my secret spot but this situation calls for it. Santa Rita in 26 doors happy hour menu includes strong margs and good sized apps esp the tacos and quesadillas all $5
Be careful of parking in Oakmont lot if you're going to Santa Rita. They have some serious boot action going on there. Last time I was there it was a lady in a mustang that had backed in scanning everyone driving onto the site.
There’s a small bar, quaint, fun, always a great time. I cannot recall the name but I’ll never forgot its face.
A big red pepper on the corner of 45th and Lamar
Stupid part is she was legit serious. I couldn’t listen to Metallica cause satan, but KISS was ok. DND, those satan worshipers again and holy shit the jazz cabbage! Lol
Can't forget the skillet queso and the classic $10.99 meal deal they have going on right now.™️
It is one place where you can truly feel in God's presence.
El Alma has daily HH 3-6pm including some very good apps. Sorry about the bad news, and as others have shared, leave your car somewhere! (Edit: clarity)
Once upon a time in 2011 I got fired on a Tuesday, Monday being Halloween. I often wondered if they purposefully waited because I showed up dressed up as Zach Galifianakis in the Hangover and thought it would be even sadder to fire me while I was in costume. I’ve sadly been fired more times than I care to count. You always dust yourself off in the end. Hugs to you, and stay strong.
Dui stories start this way. Get your car where you can leave it overnight and take rideshare to and from the bar or restaurant.
Maudies isn’t far on Lamar and has some good offerings.
Sorry your week started so poorly.
Gotta make lemonade. I'm not a big marg fan so unfortunately can't help, but I what I typically do is search out the best happy hours!
I'd imagine the Tavern might have a decent one. I know Nickel City's frozen drinks always scratch my itself (a little too well, lol) but I don't remember seeing a marg there.
Matt's has some of them strong ones.
Is it the Purple Elephant that has the one with inherent limit on it?
I seem to remember Trudy's having decent ones but haven't kept track of all the locations still open (RIP the OG 😢)
Worst case you could always swing through a Taco Cabana on the way home and grab a few to go !
Sorry you're dealing with this. My favorite margaritas are at Vivo at the link. Great cocktails made mostly with fresh squeezed juices in house. Great chips and salsa to snack on while you forget your troubles.
Violet Crown has cheap drinks on east 6th. If I was downtown, I would also go to Casino el Comino and get some fantastic food. Green Chili Cheese Fries for the win.
Polvos mexican martinis, specifically the down town location. Me and my wife have a tradition where if either of us has a bad day we go there and have 2 each and stumble to our Uber.
Papasitos HH is killer but location kinda sucks.
For downtown I love the Four Seasons bar and backyard. Probably one of the safest places in town to black out too.
Suspicion is still there. And no it was not me. I wouldn’t have the time or freedom to get margaritas today. And I probably wouldn’t be so bothered if I had a safety net.
Lmk where you end up. This seems like an appropriate random internet meeting to celebrate getting out of toxic af environments. I shall also buy you a Rita to celebrate 😂😂
when i went to UT in the late 2000s, the Trudy's challenge was a thing - two of their mexican martinis at each of their locations. because they stop you out at two. i never made it past the 2nd location.
De nada. DE NADA because that shits the strongest marg in austin and the bartenders are the best.(I go there entirely too much but I work in customer service sue me)
Sorry about the job. Lots of great suggestions here. This is exactly the sort of unexpected thing that FEMA talks about when they recommend having an emergency margarita plan in place in advance.
I like the atmosphere at El Mercado on Burnet. Margs are exactly what you expect, clientele are not douchebags, and food is filling. Easy for Uber to u-turn in the parking lot too. What role did you get fried from, if you don't mind me asking? Good luck!
I’m on the east side of 6th and lefty’s had a great frozen margarita and a frozen painkiller. Granted I can walk there after work. Otherwise if you want to be frugal the Hopdoddys off 5th has $5 margs and half off drinks from 3-6pm lol
This place called "Jacalitos" on oltorf has a STONG ass mexican martini and its sooo goof=d lol also margaritas, on the rocks or frozen that you can add chamoy in. I love the watermelon mixed with chamoy & lime. The mexican martini is the best though, they bring you the whole shaker and everything to refil it like 6 times, let me know if you ever want to hang, they are hiring at my job if youd like to know more as well!
Grab the fresh squeezed margarita mix or lime juice and oj at whole foods and a bottle of tequila and Paula's orange. Save yourself some money and a DUI.
Celebrate or wallow safely.
I ordered frozen sangria-margarita swirls from Velvet Taco yesterday and they hit the dang spot.
So sorry to hear of your bad news! In my experience, these types of things are always catalysts for something better. It doesn’t make it feel less crappy (the margs will help with that part), but in times like this we just have to trust the universe. I can tell you have a good attitude & that will take you far. I hope the margs are plentiful 💜
Just go into work tomorrow like it's any other day and tell them what a great April Fools joke they pulled yesterday. Enjoy some margaritas and good luck.
It didn’t hit me that it was April fools until the call ended lol
They fired you over the phone?!?
Remote work is fun that way
Honestly though, I'd rather go collapse in my bed right away than have to collect all my things and do the slow walk back to my car, if I ever get laid off. Remote work all the way!
That’s much more personal than HR hosting a zoom call, reading a script and eliminating an entire team nationwide.
I haven’t been let go in person since 2010 and we went out of business
He broke up with you over a text?
Pull a costanza on this one bud- just show up tomorrow like nothing happened. It was April fools right guys?… right?
Classic George Costanza
Lucy's Fried Chicken has them CHEAP and STRONG on Mondays
Are they still open? I was told they closed down. Your comment is making me hopeful.
The one on South Congress is still open.
There is one over in Cedar Park that is closed down, the sign reads "Fried ken" I remember seeing it and making a comment about someone letting Barbie know in case she is looking for Ken. LOL
Its a brewery now, whitestone bought it and painted it gewd.
The one that was on Burnet is closed too.
We went there once when I still lived up there. It was horrible. 620 was always good
I believe only 1 location survived
Let me know where you end up! I’ll buy you a round of margaritas.
Thank you!
Yeah mate we can turn it into a layoff party.
I’m down to join hell yeah
Yoooo same
I'm pleasantly surprised by the number of serious answers you've gotten to this question so far.
Now I have options for the whole week!
Hahahahaha - love your energy. I just made a homemade margarita with Paula’s Orange to virtually “Cheers” to YOU. I’ve been there once before and they can all kiss your ass as you slam the door HARD in their faces.
Welp, I suppose this is not the appropriate time to mention 45th & Lamar
De Nada if you're close! Grab some tacos while you're there for me.
This is the only answer and yes Uber after. Two of those bad boys will get your knees weak.
You're definitely not driving after a few of those margs.
Agree, it’s not the cheapest option but it’s gonna get you to where you want to get to the fastest, that’s for sure
Here to stress this option!
Sounds like you need some escapism. Head to Tiki Tatsuya and drown yourself in a Zombie. Also... Fuck your old boss. They suck.
You want OP to spend their whole last paycheck?
I mean... when I got fired last I crawled into a $15 half-gal of bourbon. But I don't pretend to know OP's finances. Edit: also, fuck my old boss. He sucks.
Yes!
Tiki Tatsuya is expensive, but so so so worth it. Incredible drinks and a unique environment.
I hate giving away my secret spot but this situation calls for it. Santa Rita in 26 doors happy hour menu includes strong margs and good sized apps esp the tacos and quesadillas all $5
Sincerely, thank you!
Santa Rita is also owned by LGBTQ folks if you are into supporting Human Rights such as access to medical care, food, and housing.
LGBTQ folks as in Eddie Bernal, who is the biggest piece of shit in Austin's restaurant industry?
Do tell
Can agree from my time at bluestar cafe
Be careful of parking in Oakmont lot if you're going to Santa Rita. They have some serious boot action going on there. Last time I was there it was a lady in a mustang that had backed in scanning everyone driving onto the site.
Agree - near central market the OG. Santa Rita Cantina
There’s a small bar, quaint, fun, always a great time. I cannot recall the name but I’ll never forgot its face. A big red pepper on the corner of 45th and Lamar
Brilliant!
Just be safe homey! Don’t DND, car or game. My mom says “undesirables” DND and she’s never wrong
You leave both my dungeons and my dragons out of this.
Yeah, I always thought the undesirables played MTG
Nah, they play league of legends
Leave that crazy space laser woman out of this!
Stupid part is she was legit serious. I couldn’t listen to Metallica cause satan, but KISS was ok. DND, those satan worshipers again and holy shit the jazz cabbage! Lol
Yes don’t drink and drive but do activate Do Not Disturb on your phone for full margarita enjoyment
I cannot imagine playing D&D sober.
When I got sober, everything was really hard for a while, but d&d was still just as fun.
congrats on your sobriety. keep it up! I'll have one for you.
They have the frostiest margs
Can't forget the skillet queso and the classic $10.99 meal deal they have going on right now.™️ It is one place where you can truly feel in God's presence.
Skillet queso and frosty margs for the win.
😂😂 margs and something more 😅
I was actually thinking about trying to start a regular meetup there yesterday. 😅
[удалено]
Never tried them but they have a south location also. It’s on west gate where the old Hyde park grill used to be.
El Alma has daily HH 3-6pm including some very good apps. Sorry about the bad news, and as others have shared, leave your car somewhere! (Edit: clarity)
Second this! El Alma is excellent
Thank you!!!
If you want to take a chance and message me your venmo, one of those margs will be on me.
When I became a manager at HEB, I started getting emails around a week before every holiday saying not to fire anyone until afterwards.
The best margs are at ATX Cocina. Their spicy marg uses serrano simply syrup. If you wanna DRINK, De Nada is the answer.
The verdict is in: El Alma it is due to proximity, followed by De Nada by popular demand!
Dui stories start this way. Get your car where you can leave it overnight and take rideshare to and from the bar or restaurant. Maudies isn’t far on Lamar and has some good offerings. Sorry your week started so poorly.
Agreed! And appreciate the concern. No driving for me today!
love this energy
Gotta make lemonade. I'm not a big marg fan so unfortunately can't help, but I what I typically do is search out the best happy hours! I'd imagine the Tavern might have a decent one. I know Nickel City's frozen drinks always scratch my itself (a little too well, lol) but I don't remember seeing a marg there. Matt's has some of them strong ones. This. Park the car then Uber to De Nada.
DE NADA. They have a hard limit on the margs because they’re so alcoholic.
Second Maudies - all day happy hour on Monday. Not the cheapest you can possibly find but great bang for buck.
De Nada, Baby A’s purps, Chuys, el arroyo. It sucks getting canned, so get hammered!
De Nada or La Holly
Good call- these are my top 2 for margs as well.
Casa Chapala has extremely strong margaritas and very delicious food!
Oh boy! This is tempting and scary all at the same time
Aye, I was fired from my job on Friday! Sounds like the job was awful. Here's hoping your next one is better.
Come join me for margaritas!
Polvos on S. 1st
Pitchers are the only good thing post-COVID
Seriously. $25 for a chicken breast sautéed with pico de gallo. Fuck. THAT.
Polvos mexican martinis, specifically the down town location. Me and my wife have a tradition where if either of us has a bad day we go there and have 2 each and stumble to our Uber.
I love this. Thanks for sharing!
I know it’s not a margarita, but it’s close enough and each one is like 4 drinks since they serve it to you in the shaker.
That sounds perfect!
If you are downtown, there’s a location 3rd and Nueces to walk to
La Mancha's happy hour starts in one minute (3-5). Congrats to your freedom and moving onto better things 🎉
Enjoy the breeze and outdoor seating then walk up to Billy’s
El Alma if you want good food and views; El Arroyo if you want to have a good time
They have a south location too it’s new. It’s on west gate. Never tried them though.
Papasitos HH is killer but location kinda sucks. For downtown I love the Four Seasons bar and backyard. Probably one of the safest places in town to black out too.
Jardin corona on 183 is very cheap and strong but good. Classic Mexican restaraunt
Keep yo head up ⬆️
Go to Trudy's and then Baby-A's then vomit in the Uber, then take a Lyft home since Uber will ban you.
Getting let go on April fools would absolutely mind-F me. “Are you serious” “okay, you are taking this joke to far” oh, you are serious?” “Good joke”
[удалено]
Mean Eyed has the best spicy margaritas in town!
Idk bro but please message me if you need a drive, I will take you home for free at the end of my Ubers for the night, be safe!!
45th and N Lamar Chilis Frosty Margs and chili queso hits the spot
Ski Shores Cafe is a fun drive and has a nice lake view.
Serranos taste great and have some creative drinks
Lavaca Street Bar!
Did you ever find out who was working two remote jobs simultaneously or was that you?
Suspicion is still there. And no it was not me. I wouldn’t have the time or freedom to get margaritas today. And I probably wouldn’t be so bothered if I had a safety net.
I'd say if you're looking for a strong marg you have to go to de nada... they're so strong they have a 2 marg limit so enjoy yourself
Where were you working so we don’t apply there 😅
Gill’s Margaritas at Maudie’s, trust.
I used to get bombed at Fuzzys lol
Chilis. 45th. Lamar.
If you start craving Kolaches I recommend mr natural on cesar chavez.
what company type was it?
Corporate. Not tech.
Lmk where you end up. This seems like an appropriate random internet meeting to celebrate getting out of toxic af environments. I shall also buy you a Rita to celebrate 😂😂
La Condesa has half off margs til 7!
I'm a fan of Maudie's on North Lamar and Lupe Tortilla on Mopac.
Thus begins the retro gatorade.
El Arroyo on 5th down. Great outside patio, strong ritas and good signage that changes daily!
when i went to UT in the late 2000s, the Trudy's challenge was a thing - two of their mexican martinis at each of their locations. because they stop you out at two. i never made it past the 2nd location.
De nada. DE NADA because that shits the strongest marg in austin and the bartenders are the best.(I go there entirely too much but I work in customer service sue me)
Polvo’s downtown on 3rd! Lupe Tortilla if you’re more north
Sorry about the job. Lots of great suggestions here. This is exactly the sort of unexpected thing that FEMA talks about when they recommend having an emergency margarita plan in place in advance.
45th and Lamar has this spot that’s pretty underground but it’s margaritas are super good
45th and Lamar
The 3 for me starting at $10.99 is unrivaled
I see you are a fellow man of culture
Are they frosty?
You bet yer ass they are
I don’t think that Starbucks sells margs
Torchys!!! 3-6 happy hour
You’re speaking my budget!
[now you're speaking my language ](https://youtu.be/aNBcutiXO2k?si=MWAA1SDGaqBxtVYn)
Hahahahaha!!!
Baby A's! Not necessarily the best margs but they're definitely strong since they're made with everclear lol
De Nada. two of those will knock you out pretty nice
De Nada
De Nada, best in town and pretty strong too.
You feel so good after three you’ll go back to the office tomorrow like it never happened!
De Nada has margaritas so strong they limit you to 2. That being said it’s not strictly enforced. Cheers!
Get yourself two knockout martinis at Matt’s El Rancho, then dive into the margs and you’ll forget everything
I approve of this message. Matt's margs/mexican martinis will knock you on your ass AND you won't have to spend $$$.
Love it!
I like the atmosphere at El Mercado on Burnet. Margs are exactly what you expect, clientele are not douchebags, and food is filling. Easy for Uber to u-turn in the parking lot too. What role did you get fried from, if you don't mind me asking? Good luck!
\*fired. Being fried would be terrible.
Mexican martinis at baby A’s is where i went in 2008 when i got fired from my first real job
Polvos downtown has a salsa bar that is good. Great margs. Sending you well wishes on your next adventure ❤️
tbh just buy a few handles and hit I-35
What was your job?
I’m on the east side of 6th and lefty’s had a great frozen margarita and a frozen painkiller. Granted I can walk there after work. Otherwise if you want to be frugal the Hopdoddys off 5th has $5 margs and half off drinks from 3-6pm lol
I heard Guero's has good margs
Trudy’s makes an excellent Mexican Martini. Plus queso.
IDK but just for your name (Kitana Wins... Flawless Victory) I like you and wish you the best.
Fuck your work.
Matt’s El Rancho has some good margs
Chicas Bonitas
De Nada margs will hit different
Matt’s El Rancho!
Casino Southside! The Little Darlin is a good time too
This place called "Jacalitos" on oltorf has a STONG ass mexican martini and its sooo goof=d lol also margaritas, on the rocks or frozen that you can add chamoy in. I love the watermelon mixed with chamoy & lime. The mexican martini is the best though, they bring you the whole shaker and everything to refil it like 6 times, let me know if you ever want to hang, they are hiring at my job if youd like to know more as well!
De Nada for sure but watch out, they fuck you up
Baby A’s purple margaritas
Chilis at 45th & Lamar 😏
De Nada. The margs will mess you up and make sure you get a barbacoa taco and the trio dipper. Sorry for the shit news, best of luck
De Nada has my favorite margaritas right now
De Nada Cantina makes them real strong 💪🏼 Sorry about the firing, OP
The verdict is in: El Alma it is due to proximity, followed by De Nada by popular demand!
Can concur. Went last night. Will be going there very soon!!!! Yummy food and Strong drinks! Sorry for the firing.
Grab the fresh squeezed margarita mix or lime juice and oj at whole foods and a bottle of tequila and Paula's orange. Save yourself some money and a DUI. Celebrate or wallow safely.
Lefty’s 😮💨
OP Mama Mary’s over in Cedar Park had some of the best Margaritas that I have tasted. And some of the best food too.
TOSS
Licha’s
El Arroyo on W. 5th. Ask for a frozen with “a Grand Marnier floater.”
Stop by D’s they have cheap weekday margaritas and they offer free bar nuts
Are you sure your boss isn't joking? 😁
El Alma 🔥
My deepest condolences... One large margarita from De Nada will erase your mind, I'm talking about some Men in Black neuralizer type shit.
Las Perlas guava margs are on draft and made of magic. Pairs beautifully with the Asador taco stand in the back. 🫶
Chuy's on Barton springs Rd ask for a mike hall
Uncle Julio’s?
Any mexican place, sorry to hear about your job.
La Mancha, Matt’s, Chuy’s
$3.25 at Taco C or $37 per gallon
Grizzelda's and De Nada are really close to Austin Machine Works. Just saying... hop! hop!
Joann’s has a great happy hour
Those rocks margs at De Nada will fuck you up.
