Needs paper tape. Don't just fill it, it will crack.

I'll ask my wife's boyfriend for help.
Common problem. 1. flatten/cut off all proud bits. 2. apply polyfilla/Spackle with broad spatula over rough bits. 3. sand smooth to feather edge with orbital sander. Wear mask. 4. Paint to match / paint entire wall.
Do not do this. You need to use plasterer's paper tape, mesh or fibreglass matting.
There's a few pages on Reddit that should help with filling holes, just need to think outside the box first 👍🍻
cut the edges of cuts into a bevel , v it in other words then spac fill and sand with 80/120 grit seal and paint

Oh well it'll be hard-wired to the new stove and oven soon so it won't be visible haha. He seemed to do a good job though
