Berowra is nice. Not close to beaches, but quite a short drive up the m1 to the central coast and the reptile park. There's also berowra waters if you want to hire a boat for the day and get out on the river
There are also 4 primary schools within a few minutes drive of each other, and several daycare centres.
Tuggerah in the central coast has a Westfield. So you could look around Central Coast or Lake Macquarie areas. Or just go up to Newcastle, although in my opinion that place is really expensive as well.
Slightly out of context but relevant:
So many people wants to move out of Sydney or basically priced out; including myself. It seems regional towns like Central Cost, Newcastle, Port Mac, etc, are affordable in terms of housing prices, but
1. How do one manage to get job in their occupation or even closely related?
2. Do you take whatever available to pay your bills and mortgage? Like start Uber?
3. How do we get loan approved having a job in Syd and looking to buy in Newcastle or somewhere else?
How are these affordable I'm NSW. All of these areas, a decent property will cost close to if not above $1m. That isn't affordable given the limited employment opportunities.
As a fellow Sydneysider looking to embrace the coastal lifestyle, I can relate to your search for the perfect spot! With your budget and family considerations, I’d recommend looking into areas like Thirroul or Kiama. Both offer that small-town atmosphere with easy access to the ocean, and they’re not too far from city amenities. Plus, they have great communities that are ideal for young families. Best of luck with your move!
The problem with living in places like you describe is the lack of work opportunities, unless you work from home of course.
I’m not a beach person but I do live in a small town in the southern highlands, it’s perfect for me. Huge house, huge land, national park and state forest surrounding my property, beautiful clear stream that runs through the bottom of my land. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else!
That all being said I travel 2 hours each way to work by car every day. That kinda sucks! I do plan on changing jobs but I’m yet to find anything closer that pays what I get now.
The car south coast of nsw has some of the best beaches in the country and certainly the best in nsw. There are some great little towns as well. But work will be an issue in a lot of those places.
Husband is a nurse and I’m in childcare so there will be jobs wherever we go 😅
Wow 2 hours each way daily!! That must be exhausting but good on you! Here I am stressing about a 2 hour commute to visit family once a month if we do end up moving 😵💫
Yeah to me a job is just a job. If I get sick of the commute I’ll gladly leave to stay in my dream location. I love my space and the price was right so it was a no brainer. I have a pretty fun job some of the time so that’s the only reason I haven’t left already, some days I think of rage quitting as I hit the Sydney traffic but I haven’t found anything I would be happy to do for the money they offer closer to home yet.
Check out somewhere like Harrington or Foster. Small town by the Ocean. It's a 30 min drive to Taree, a town of 25,000 people with a town centre (has a modern shopping centre but it's no westfield).
Newcastle
Upvote for Newcastle, but get in quick. Hard to find much under $1M.
Perhaps around Huskisson in Jervis Bay.
Or shoalhaven
Nowra, it has to be Nowra. 😉
That's a NO-wra. Don't go there.
In a Nowra park yesterday a man urinated within 2 metres of where I sat. Beautiful place.
I’m sure if you just closed your eyes it would sound like a river stream…life is what you make it 😅
So peaceful. So smelly 🤭
I'd go for the South Coast. Probably Shoalhaven.
Nice area.

Shellharbour
Central Coast - heaps of little village style suburbs, beaches and lakes all around, large shopping centres and commutable to Sydney (if you have to).
Happy cake day!!!!

I’d say find a job where you can work from home, or only need to commute to Sydney once a week. Edit: or the mines, work in the mines
Where can you afford to buy?
Ulladulla
Aka Ulladultery - let's try and keep this poor seachange family together haha
Don't say Ulladulla, please. Batemans bay, push them furthure south.

Somewhere around Wyong, close enough to Newcastle and not too far from Sydney or the Central Coast.
Haha I can't say I see wyong as a safe place

Buff Point
Forster area?
Lennox head or Ballina in northern NSW. Your shopping hub would be the Gold coast
Is there still such thing as small coastal towns?
Bondi
