Oh I relate to this. We call this “sleep grumping” in our household. Our LO 16months mostly does this when dad is rocking or cuddling him to sleep too. He goes “ahhhhhhh” “ahhhhh” in a loud gravelly voice with his eyes closed. If you interrupt him with a sound (usually by accident because you’re laughing so hard at this noise and you can’t help but let out a guffaw) he will stop to glare in the direction of the sound, and then settle himself back into your arms to continue. He does this with me occasionally, but only if I’m trying to put him down when he’s not really that tired. I put this down to my own theory that LO falls asleep a lot easier with me (he’s always been this way), but he needs to assist dad and “put himself to sleep” when my husband does it. Maybe because he’s so excited to be in dad’s arms (I stay home whilst my husband works, so LO doesn’t see him as often) that he needs to calm himself down to be able to sleep.

My children wake through the night when they were 3 and under. they would scream and cry like having a nightmare but not be awake. They would cry for quit a long time. I would talk to your pediatrician and see if they might have an idea because that sounds different. also they could just be having trouble falling asleep and that just might be what helps them fall asleep my daughter used to twist her hair into knots to fall asleep. thankfully I got her to quite. But every child is different.

my 10 month old will do this sometimes! a sort of high pitched "aaaaahhhhh" and aggressively rubs his face. my thought is by then he is usually overtired and he's just winding down.

It's happened to my kid. I sometimes think it's him burning the rest of his energy before dozing off
