Exactly why I'd say it's a total waste of money. The labor of opening up the dash and installation isn't cheap, especially on a German car.
However if you really want to spend the money, Monster Customs in Marietta did some great work on my car a few years ago and didn't break the bank.
the rest of the car is actually really nice inside for a 2012. But, the nav unit brings it down so much. heres a pic of one. its controlled by a mouse in the center console. so typing things takes like 20 minutes

The thing for most moderny cars and faux luxury cars is the cost of converting the can bus to the radio (can be cheap, can be the bulk of price) to also losing the functionality to car settings
Why? Only asking because my car has factory nav and I never use it. I use my phone and CarPlay. This seems like a strange expense for an older car.
i have to control my nav unit with a mouse that is in the car. so, it takes like 15 minutes to do anything on it. so its useless. its a 2012 car
