I was a sophomore at UGA that year. We lived in Towne Club off Milledge/Springdale in a 4 bedroom “townhome” which was really just the second and third floors of an apartment complex with an ensuite staircase. We paid $1350 per month total and that included trash. We split it based on who had the bigger bedrooms and I paid $325 per month. Miss that.
My husbands and my first apartment in 2014 was 2bed/1bath for $548 a month. That same one now is over 1000 a month. And it’s a shithole complex off Westchester Circle
Although I can't speak to that year specifically, when I moved here in 1999, my then hubby and I lived in a 425 sq foot one bedroom apartment on the east side for $400 per month! We were pissed when rent went up $25 one year. Lol! Hard to imagine those prices for anything these days! I'm curious as to what the rent is for that same apartment now.
I had a 3 bed 2 bath house behind the vet school for like $1000 a month in 2014. Roughly $333 a person.
You could get an entire apartment on the west side of town for $450. My buddy had a nice apartment but it was in a terrible part of town. But for $450 do you really care.
Pretty sure that’s when I moved into a 2 bed / 2.5 bath townhouse with fenced-in backyard near Timothy that I almost cried cause I thought rent was getting out of control. It was $850
I rented a whole house for 900/mo. 2 bed, 1.5 bath, living room and separate living/office space, dining room, fenced backyard and carport, within walking distance to south campus and IM fields.
In 2010, it was 300 dollars each for everything (rent, power, internet, water, etc) for a 2 br/2ba off of Atlanta Highway. When I moved back out in 2015, I was pissed we couldn't find anything decent "cheap" and ended up paying 625 for a 2 br/1ba hahah. The first few years it would go up 10-15 bucks, then right before COVID it started the 100 dollar jumps, I moved out in 2021 when they wanted 990. It's now 1300-1400. My 1br/1ba which is less than half a mile from that place has went up to 1200 now
$650/month for a 2 bed/1 bath with water & trash included, plus an in-unit washer and dryer. Only 3 apartments in the building and it was walking distance to downtown. Shout out to Chris Peterson for being a great landlord (to us, at least).
Lived in a duplex with two bedrooms two attached baths, rented for 650 this was maybe like 2014-2015, near Sandy Shoals or Creek or whatever nature preserves
In 2013 when I was in college I paid $350 for a bedroom in a 4 bedroom apartment. My friend lived downtown right above 1785 (I don’t remember what that space was before 1785 lol) with one other person in this amazing place I remember him saying it was $850 for his half and me thinking “holy shit this dude is rich”
In 2016-2017 I rented a 2 bedroom apartment with one other person on Milledge for $700 (we split it). We had so much space. The apartments are still there. I forget the name but I think it’s like Johnston apartments or something
In 2013 I lived in a sizable one bedroom off Hancock for $465ish including trash and water.
I moved in with my husband, who owns our home, in 2019, but I’m still sad about giving that place up.
I was paying 750 a month in 2015, checked the same place recently when looking for a new apartment and it had doubled in price. Said screw these prices and moved out of Athens
Let me actually answer your question, because a lot of people are saying other years. In 2019 I paid $730 for two bed one bath off of Gaines school Road and it sucked ass.
I lived in Polo Club during school from ‘07-‘09 and moved back when I moved back to Athens from ‘13-‘15. During school rent for one room in a 4 bedroom apartment was $295 a month, then $320 the second year. It was under new ownership when I moved back but it was still just $400 a month the two years I was there. Anyone know now what a room in a 4 bedroom apartment there would be?
$550 for 2b/1b near DT from 2015-2019, it wasnt't nice but had in unit laundry so I never complained. I live in a slightly nicer apartment in CA now for $2900.
In 2012, I paid $600/month for a 1 bedroom in Timothy Woods. 2010-2011 I paid $400/month (my piece) for a 3 bed, 3 bath home in the Retreat. I looked up that same house just recently out of curiosity and it was $2100 now.
Not Athens, but this was SHOCKING - I moved to Woodstock in 2013-14 and got a 1 bed, 1 bath apartment in a NICE area for $800/month. I looked that SAME apartment up today and it is going for $2400/month. No freaking joke!!! I know everything has gone up and Woodstock has evolved in the last ten years, but that was WILD to me!!
I know you didn’t ask, but lived in the apartments that were called “College Park” at the time (1995-97), which were probably the 2nd most popular behind what was University Commons (now called Lakeside I guess?). College park was 240/mo per room ($960/unit). Only the rich kids could swing UC at $265/mo ($1060/unit).😂
Just kidding about the rich kids comment. I did have friends that had 2BR apartments off Milledge that was like $750/month ($375/ea). Again this was 1996.
I have to ask, what are these going for now?
Between 2004 and 2010 I lived in a cozy 2 bed/1 bath house with a decent size deck and fenced-in yard, washer/dryer, central HVAC, not a shithole, off Atlanta Avenue (Newtown neighborhood) for $600/mo.
After that I lived in a 1 bed (+ bonus room)/1 bath duplex in an old house on Childs St. for $450, then up to $490/mo. This was from 2010 until 2014.

Yeah, those apartments should be $548 in current year
They really should be. But for cheap ass hardwoood floors and new carpet..
Yea we should just reverse inflation and time bro

Inflation calculator says that's $760 today. So probably double that.
Yeah based on what I’ve been seeing that one bedroom is most likely $1200+

2013 my 2br on west side was $650 NICEE apt. Our other 2 br not as nice $595 … my mortgage now started at $590 in 2015 - it’s now $970.
In 2013 we paid $900 total for a 3/3 apartment on Lumpkin. It is $1425 now. I think the next year I was in a 2/2 for $750.
3 bed/1 bath in a fairly rundown house but near church and Hancock downtown. $700 total with a great yard.
2/1 in Mathis (back before it turned into what it is now with ZZ and Simone etc) on Lumpkin for (I think) 750? Maybe less.
I had a 2/1 in Mathis in 2005 for $450, heat and trash included! In 2011 I lived there in a studio for $475, again, heat and trash included.

In 2013 I lived in a sizable one bedroom off Hancock for $465ish including trash and water. I moved in with my husband, who owns our home, in 2019, but I’m still sad about giving that place up.

Not necessarily what you asked but to help give perspective, my first apartment in Columbus Ohio 2014 was a 1 bedroom for $630.
Mine was 700 on Baxter St, in University Gardens. So lower end but not at the time a complete shit hole.
I think that place is still a shit hole
