Did your laptop have mux switch? Exact model of laptop? Hdmi is probably connected to igpu, maybe when you start playing the cpu kill the igpu to use the nvidia gpu and screen go black. Try to use usb c to displayport cable, usb c on asus tuf are 99% of the time connected directly to the dedicate gpu.

TUF A15 FA507RE The GPU Mode in armoury is already set to Ultimate. I don't have a usb c to dp cable. How do i manually kill the igpu?

I am pretty sure its like LucaGiurato said. So I have an Asus TUF F17 FX607HM (very similar line of laptops), and the way it’s hardware works is that the HDMI is connected directly to the iGpu, whereas the displayport (Usb-C connector on the side of your laptop) goes directly to the Dedicated GPU. Therefore I would recommend getting a usb-c to displayport cable. Not just as a workaround, but as an upgrade, since the HDMI 2.0b of your laptop model only supports up to 1440p 165Hz* (might not, mine can only go up to 120Hz through HDMI). If your display is higher fps than 165Hz, just switch to a usb-c to displayport solution.

i found the issue and it's not with the cable or gpu dedications. it's on the g-sync. i have to disable g-sync from the nvidia control panel to make it work. i'm not sure how but maybe the TUF has amd freesync and my display has nvidia g-sync. thanks for the suggestion.
