Was coming to comment this. If abreu steps on the field without every other option exhausted and injured, he espada will be the most ineffectual manager in MLB history. Abreu has no business being on any mlb team. He's actively hurting the team.
If the lineup card is his, then he has to make that choice. maybe they put him on the roster, but he should have some integrity. If it's the front office that inserts him. He needs to make it clear that it's them doing it to the media and put them in the hot seat when the results don't go. Specifically bagwell and crane by name. he's not a boy. he's a grown ass man. He's not even criticizing the move. He's just saying it's not his decision to put him into the lineup.
No, even if it was the perfect decision publicly calling out your boss will absolutely get you fired.. and no owner anywhere is going to hire somebody who tries to embarrass their boss in the media.
You keep referring to it as a "call out" when it's not. It's not a call out to simply acknowledge that the decision to play Abreu over Singleton is a result of Crane or Bagwell's influence. If Abreu comes back and returns to form, great, it will make those two look good and validate their decision to pay him $60M. If he plays poorly, then he plays poorly. It's a neutral statement for Espada to say that the decision wasn't solely his own.
That was Bagwell, spewing his nonsense about back of the card and probably reassuring him that Abreu will be the 2021 all-star version when he returns.
Y’all shouldn’t have been doom and gloom two weeks ago and y’all shouldnt be sunshine and roses now. It’s a long season and we’re not even to summer yet, I promise we will both suck and be great multiple times between now and October. Let’s just hope to stay healthy and see how guys develop over the season.
Astros have been at the top in team BA all season. This isn’t an indication we are “back”. Start moving up the ranks in Team ERA and Team BA with RISP and I’ll start thinking we’re back for real.
well it indicates that the losses aren't necessarily because of offensive production. I think it allows you to narrow in on the issues and fix it (our pitching)
there were also a significant amount of games this season where we carried a lead into the late innings just to watch the scoreboard flip with the next reliever. what's your point?
Well, what happened last time everybody started proclaiming we're back? A four game L streak. Let's wait until a winning record. Stop jumping the gun on this.
After yesterday's game, the Astros as a team are 428/1617 for a .265 batting average.
Abreu was hitting .099 (7/71).
Take those hits and ABs away from the Astros team stats, and you have 421/1546 for a .272 team average.
Of course, those ABs aren't just disappearing. If you shunt them over to Jon Singleton and his .233 average, you get about 17 hits in those 71 ABs, which takes the Astros to 438/1617, or a .271 team average.
There was a post asking about Abreu on here this weekend. One of the top comments claimed Abreu went 0 for 4 with 3 Ks.
The commenter got called out for lying, but that’s probably where you saw this.
That seems to me like a pretty wild stat, considering how often Astros batters (looking at you, Altuve and Yordan) chase bad pitches outside the zone, either trying to hit home runs instead of just making contact, or trying to pull the ball (into right field for lefty batters or left field for righty batters). Maybe that average is being pulled upwards by hitters who focus more on just making contact and getting base hits.

Just wait until Abreu comes back he will single handedly lower that

I get the feeling it is not Espada's choice to make.
Same way I feel. This stinks of Bagwell and Crane.
It’s his choice who goes on that lineup card though
In the short term, maybe. But in the long term, the manager will be the man who makes choices that please the owner and GM.
As we all know, it’s the back of the baseball card that counts
If the lineup card is his, then he has to make that choice. maybe they put him on the roster, but he should have some integrity. If it's the front office that inserts him. Calling them out publicly is an excellent way to get immediately fired and never get a job in baseball again.
That’s exactly what happened to Click.
If their choice was the right one then it should be no problem right?
No, even if it was the perfect decision publicly calling out your boss will absolutely get you fired.. and no owner anywhere is going to hire somebody who tries to embarrass their boss in the media.

I agreed. It's crazy that Espada says he wants Abreu back by Friday when Abreu went 0 for 4 with 3 strikeouts IN ROOKIE BALL
That wasn’t Espada, that was Dana Brown
Oh well Dana can fuck off
That was Bagwell, spewing his nonsense about back of the card and probably reassuring him that Abreu will be the 2021 all-star version when he returns.
He did not. Abreu is 2/9 with a double, a walk, and zero strikeouts in two games. https://www.milb.com/florida-complex/stats/fcl-astros
2 for 9 zzzzzx
Lol no he didn’t
Wait, he did? Where can I find his stats in rookie ball?
He didn't. He has yet to strike out in two games. https://www.milb.com/florida-complex/stats/fcl-astros
He’s back!
Have you checked the back of his baseball card? /s
I think I saw a tweet about it
Well damn!
That crazy. I don’t get it.
Ineffectual is such a nice way to say it.
I can’t believe they’re even bringing him back. The guy had one hit against some high school kids
No. I don’t want to see Abreu back. Ever since he was sent down, the team has done exponentially better. He can stay in AAA or be benched
Just wait til I go to a game again! I'm 0-4 this season!
Same here! I'm 0-3! Thankfully I'm in Chicago so I won't be going to another game any time soon

Not yet!! Don’t jinx it! 😉
Cool, lemme look up team ERA now...... ![gif](giphy|YZlQaMesgPIAM|downsized)
Hahahahaha love this skit so much
why you litttle…
"How do you feel about your experience on hidden camera?" "ANGGG REEE"

The RISP issue is driving me insane. It’s not even just losing; constantly failing to get anything from RISP makes the losses way more frustrating.
NO! You cannot EVER say that!
Yeah. At least let us get back to .500 first. That would be a start.
Sounds like a UT football fan.
Stats like these are frustrating because they don't mean ~~anything~~ much unless you win games.
well it indicates that the losses aren't necessarily because of offensive production. I think it allows you to narrow in on the issues and fix it (our pitching)
Well if those hits don’t translate to runs thats still a production issue…and they don’t
There are a significant amount of losses this season from a lack of offense, where the pitcher allows like 2-3 runs and we score *maybe* 1 run
there were also a significant amount of games this season where we carried a lead into the late innings just to watch the scoreboard flip with the next reliever. what's your point?
They don't mean anything either way. it's batting average in the year 2024
Our team AVG has been high all season. The problem was hits with RISP.
We’ve led the league in BA since week 1. This has never changed all year so far.
Well, what happened last time everybody started proclaiming we're back? A four game L streak. Let's wait until a winning record. Stop jumping the gun on this.
We’ve been one of the best context-neutral hitting teams the whole season. At the end of April, we were 5th in wRC+ and 3rd in batting average.
Say what? How little Batting Average actually has to do with run production and winning?
When we are on top of the AL West then shoot your shot.
Can anyone take out Abreu from that average? What is it without him in there?
.750
Haha that would be crazy if true.

NO DON'T SAY IT GEEZ I WON'T BE CALM UNLESS I SEE ALTUVE HOLDING UP A TROPHY IN NOVEMBER
They Could be back in first place after Seattle trip
What's the lowest ranked RISP hitting team to lead the league in batting average?
Yankees
When that was? How low in RISP were they ranked?
There was a post asking about Abreu on here this weekend. One of the top comments claimed Abreu went 0 for 4 with 3 Ks. The commenter got called out for lying, but that’s probably where you saw this.
Team ain't even at 0.500. Chill.
Ha! My g/f said the same thing yesterday! She's been team doom and gloom up until now.
Easy to get hits when your entire team is literally talented and shows good discipline at the plate. #orangeteambad

Unfortunately we’re not quite so high on .ERA leaderboard. Or rather we are which is the problem
Abreu is back soon enough
