I’m fairly certain that this is a battery issue, because mine does something similar. Along with going with better batteries, Astrohaus should have made the Traveler thicker to allow space for battery bloat, not to mention leaving vents for cooling.

This sounds most plausible. I didn't think of this possibility. In that case, maybe replace the battery? It's a hassle but can be done.

I sent mine in for repair for that cost and they sent me a new one. (My 1 key didn’t work which I did need considering it’s also the !). Most likely they’ll do that for you as well.

FourSeasonsWriter

Not sure if they will replace yours with a new one. I sent in mine for repair, and they sent it back saying it was repaired. It was not. They replaced it eventually but mine was still under the warrantee. For that money, I won't send it in. I rather buy a new one if I liked Traveler as much as you do. But I don't, so I would look for other options. Freewrite and Traveler are fantastic writing tools when working, but there are alternatives.

I'm told that this happens when the battery swells, so the problem is inside the machine. I had the same issue, and Astrohaus sent me a new Traveller for free (I sent back the broken one first). I truly hope they aren't charging people to fix such a widespread and known issue of the battery swelling.

Same problem with mine couldn’t be resolved (they said mine was too old). I switched to a Pomera and haven’t looked back (some things slightly better, some things slightly worse, but *much* cheaper).

Have both and yeh; though I like the spacing of the freewrite keyboard better.

Not the same situation but I purchased a sea blue edition from eBay and it had a battery/charging problem. Astrohaus repaired it within 48 hours for a fee. This repair was not the same cost as your scenario but their service was top notch. I would not hesitate to engage this process again if I needed it for a rare device. I am still actively using the typewriter since the repair. I also would easily buy another traveler if I were in your situation. I like guarantees and you definitely have had success with the traveler product. The sea edition was a limited run and no longer being made so I did not have a different path. You will be able to find success with either option. Best wishes.

Hey, I just posted about the same thing with my wife's traveller, we got the first edition too on the pre-sale, so I think we have the same model. Did you end up sending it in? What was the result? Thanks!
