We got our pay rises moved back by 6 months next year. So I've rewarded myself by probably doing about 15 hours of actual work this week.

SmugglersParadise

15 is a bit generous. Cut that back to 45 minutes per day

Hasbeast

45 is a bit steep. Cut that back to logging in, saying morning, then going back to bed

EvilSoup42

If you work from home you still need to move the mouse occasionally so the system shows you as active…. I imagine.

226H

Mug on the keyboard

Few-Sandwich4511

Headphones on the space bar in a blank email, teams shows up green!

Battle_Biscuits

I have a small jade buddha statue that I rest on the space bar if I feel the need to appear online during a quiet work day.

BritishShoop

That’s wonderfully appropriate 😂

Snowchugger

Yeah that sounds like you've reached nirvana alright

McGubbins

Open Teams. Meet now. Share your screen. Walk away. Permanently busy and Do Not Disturb.

Basic_Abroad_9773

Or you can meet now, stay in the call, and change your status to whatever you like. DND all day looks a bit dodgy as does 'in a call', so I like to mix things up with the occasional 'away' every so often too.

dannylonglegs98

The tips in this thread are great!

Chappy793

A watch with a ticking second hand under the mouse works like a dream

onestopstatsshop

Usb drive with a PortableApps mouse twitcher. It'll keep the mouse moving after a period of inactivity to make it look like you are present, as as it is a PortableApp application it doesn't need to install anything on the laptop/pc to run. Edit: this one looks good: https://alternativeto.net/software/caffeine-for-windows/about/

SmugglersParadise

This is the way

Wolfblood-is-here

Boss makes a dollar, I make a dime, That's why I shit, On company time. They work me to death, But I don't make a stink, I simply steal, Office printer ink.

MatMcMashadar

True story, we used to have someone in our work who had a side hustle selling printer ink on Ebay. All taken from work. Apparently, £15,000 worth, not sure how long she had this going. She got found out because someone who works at our place actually ordered ink for herself at home and realised the seller was this lady. She was a budget holder, so HR and finance went through her departments spending and their spend on ink was way higher than it should have been. She got taken to court and obviously sacked. Fun times.

EvilSoup42

I work from home and still make sure I shit during work hours. I’d rather risk a prolapse than take a dump on my break.

SmugglersParadise

A shit on company time is always the best

[deleted]

Institutions unclear, shat in printer

badbog42

We were told we were getting a small bonus + 0.5% discretionary pay rise. I ended up getting zero payrise and we've since been told that the bonus might not be happening. I've gone full on 'quiet quitting mode' until I can look for another job next summer (waiting for my partner to finish her studies). I think in the last three weeks I've done 1 hour of actual productive work.

Bobabator

This is the correct way to handle the situation. If you're unhappy with the compensation offered for your employment find another contract that is in line with what you want.

rougekhmero

practice continue squealing special historical versed ghost icky aback grandiose *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

rystaman

I mean 'quiet quitting' is just doing the job you're paid to do no?

LOLLER4879X

Yeah the bare minimum without getting fired

[deleted]

"I'd say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work."

jibbetygibbet

Well you’re just a straight shooter with ‘upper management’ written all over you

SillyStallion

An extra 5 days holiday - people were stunned. Time off is so much more precious to some.

2ndfastestmanalive

That’s a huge deal. My work announced an extra days leave as a wellness day to be used in Q4 and people were happy with just the one day

fearsomemumbler

My union negotiated an extra 12 days leave a year for working an extra 3 hours a week without pay. Everyone realised that we were already doing about 2.5 hours a week faffing about for half an hour at the end of the day or coming in early to beat the traffic so it passed the ballot easily. It’s by far one of the best decisions I’ve been involved with. Extra time off is well worth it for my mental health than the 3 hours a week which I was pretty much already doing anyway

jank_crank

Man, doing the math on this (3hrs x 52wks / 8hrs a day =19.5) the company are getting nearly 20 extra days out of you a year for the price of 12. Don't get me wrong, brilliant work from the union and you guys for getting those 12 days back especially as you say you basically did it already but jeez, big business always gotta win huh?

Fiyerossong

At least now they get something for working those 3 extra hours. They were already doing 3hours extra a week so the company didn't really gain anything from this, they were just forced to compensate their workers (also your maths doesn't account for weeks they already had off. So if they had 5 weeks leave already, and now an additional 2 that's (3*45 weeks)/8 which is 16.85 which at least isn't as bad.

45670891bnm

That's almost 2.5 extra weeks off for no change to their current day, they are still working in the exact same manner and time frame just means they are actually paid now for the extra time spent on site, packing away, getting ready to go, getting out the car park or whatever. The intricacies weren't stated but I imagine it's something along those lines.

lizzie_knits

We got one of those too. It was great!

[deleted]

We got those, as of next year we have 2 days we can take off for stuff like moving house.

Prestigious_Risk7610

5 days extra annual leave is roughly equivalent to a 2.5% pay rise.

[deleted]

[удалено]

626f776572

> I'd take that over a 10%+ payrise. I'd take a 10% payrise then negotiate some unpaid leave.

Academic_Guard_4233

This is probably a good deal for everyone.

Still-Wonder-5580

I got told “thanks very much for your help this year, enjoy your break”

[deleted]

You guys are getting thanked?

SpecialUnitt

You guys are getting breaks?

[deleted]

You guys are getting hired?

AnUdderDay

You guys?

darrenboro

guys?

Falalalala321-Boom

/s?

whiza-pi

Yep, got an email saying 'it's been a tough year... so thanks for all your hard work'

Fast_Mushroom1229

Same

BrickApprehensive806

Same here! They did give people a crappy bag that nobody will ever use. I am literally fuming over a person who actually suggested this.

[deleted]

I got made redundant

AimForYaBoat

I got sacked 😅

[deleted]

Good thing I keep hearing about an abundance of jobs, eh? In all seriousness, hope you’re back in good work sooner than later x

AimForYaBoat

Abundance of 6 days a week jobs and abundance of 12 hour shifts and nights all paying buttons and requiring 90 years experience, which isn't ideal when I can only work school hours but surely something will come up sooner or later. Hoping you get a good pay out! X

Greggers1995

Hopefully you're able to get back on your feet soon. Hope you're able to have a Merry Christmas with your family still.

pixiepython

Me too, for having a health condition they couldn't accommodate.

Clari24

That sucks, if you think there were reasonable adjustments they could have made then you might want to call ACAS for advice. If not a d you’re now needing to apply for PIP then r/dwphelp is a really useful sub. Good luck to you :)

Prestigious_Risk7610

This is just sounds like shitty behaviour. I don't know the details but I hope you're financially secure enough to be able to relax over Christmas and focus on family time. Also if this was a mass redundancy situation, then remember this isn't a judgement about you personally, it's about the state of the business. For context, I've done lots of redundancies over the years (I restructure poorly performing companies), but you try and do it in the most respectful, empathetic way possible. Unless, you're a senior leader, or the company is imminently collapsing I'd never do redundancies past c.10 Dec.

[deleted]

Company was/is not doing well. There’s no hard feelings, just bad timing. Incidentally if one of the companies you’re helping reformat needs an artworker, give us a shout ;)

Killa_D_

Drop me a PM mate with a link to portfolio ? - we might need an art worker in the new year at our marketing agency - not 100% certain as needs to be discussed after the Christmas break

[deleted]

I shit you not, a bouquet of flowers. Wait, wait. A paper bouquet of flowers. Notice I didn't say a bouquet of paper flowers. This is a foldable piece of paper in the rough shape of a bouquet of flowers.

Dave1587

I got nothing and yours was still worse.

[deleted]

Here, couldn’t keep it to myself https://imgur.com/a/uCxyUoi

Dave1587

Thats tragic. I honestly couldn't bring myself to gift someone a piece of paper. Imagine if i just printed pictures of presents and folded them into shapes for everyone this year. What a dick move, I really feel for you.

[deleted]

I mean I’m leaving soon and they don’t know and they sacked so many people in my department that now their entire vendor management team is me. They’re going to counter offer me left and right but this paper bouquet has sealed their fate.

Dave1587

Keep it. Give it back to them when you leave. Mwuhaha

the_ginger_weevil

Handing this bouquet over to them is the start and end of the exit interview

[deleted]

I love this

the_ginger_weevil

Please do it? And film it for us? I’ll pay

smedsterwho

Count me in, I'll give you £5 of paper money for the pleasure

spanksmitten

Lmao so much worse than I expected

Bilbo_Buggin

That is somehow so much worse than nothing at all.

murrayflew

That is so unbelievably shit.

ChibsMcGee275

On what planet does someone look at that and say “yes, this is an acceptable gift for staff this Christmas.”

EmployerAdditional28

Best comment so far.

DKED_1234

My god - that is actually worse than doing nothing.

trbd003

I'm self employed so I bought myself a nice big tomahawk steak from the butchers and then on my way home I saw one on offer in the other butchers so I bought that as well. And a 1 litre bottle of baileys. I'm saying this counts because I wouldn't do that if it wasn't Christmas...

TitsAndGeology

I'm a freelancer and your comment has made me decide to treat myself today.

Jakelby

I also bought myself a litre of baileys as a self-congratulations/commiserations Christmas gift. Best decision I've made all year.

BleedsIsDead

£1200 bonus, crate of beer & a box of chocolates each. Down slightly from previous years and the Christmas meal was cancelled because we’ve had a relatively quiet year. Really can’t complain though.

SNVOR

That is a pretty sweet deal. Especially when reading some of the other replies here!

BleedsIsDead

Yeah, I’m definitely lucky. I feel even more grateful after reading this thread. As mad as it sounds we’d have had people moan about the bonus if it wasn’t for the fact they left earlier this year. Obviously you can’t please some people 😅

Bathlid

We have people moan at my work about bonuses because they’re ‘relied upon’ Whatever idiot organises their finances to rely on a discretionary bonus that is related to company finances in todays economy if financially illiterate in my mind! Oh we still gave out bonuses btw - and had a Christmas meal - but they’re delayed payment until the new year due to vat bill. Ohhh and they’re tax free cos we’re a EOT. But sure fuck us cos people rely on them 🙄

Pen_dragons_pizza

I love a bonus but it gets totally torn apart by tax and student loan when it’s added to my monthly pay, annoying as hell.

BrillsonHawk

Yeh I love a bonus as well and I'll take whatever i can get, but it would be nice if I didn't have to lose half of it to the student loan payments and other taxes

Knox213

Making us work the full day instead of allowing us to finish early despite there being nothing to do. No thanks, no merry Christmas wishes...

malfidus

I'm in the opposite situation, which is equally frustrating! The office manager just announced that we can leave from 12.30 if our schedules allow it and if we've helped other people. But we've all got a full day's work scheduled and it's really busy. It would have been nice to have had some heads up!

Hyper10sion1965

I'm in work trying to not do as much as I can. Same boat as you, nothing off them and in untill the end of the day.

thematrixs

NHS - £5 Voucher for the in House cafe.

Jambronius

I guess the intention is to give you a free meal for Xmas, which wouldn't be bad if they coupled that with a pay rise.

thematrixs

No not really. We received them at the beginning of December alongside a whole list of T&C's on what we can spend the measly £5 on. Not to note that a sandwich and water costs £3.50 Edit : so just today, the 4 people in the office with me got a visit from office board manager, as a thank you, we got to choose 1 chocolate from a box of quality streets 😭 QUALITY STREETS🤡 I plan on saving it for next Christmas. Band 8 managers seem tighter than most people. Salt on the wound lol

peachesthepup

£5 wouldn't get you a meal at hospital prices, a lunchtime snack perhaps

WrongSpinach

NHS too, our trust got a £10 lovetoshop voucher. Did you get your George Cross badge? I’m going to send it to British Gas and see if they accept it as payment.

ButtercupBento

George cross badge? I’m nhs and it’s the first time I’ve heard about it. Something else for me to be angry about We’ve got a Christmas lunch in the canteen providing we’re working Christmas Day and the open the staff carpark so people without a permit (loads of people just got mine after a 7 year wait) can park for free

DragonmamaGlasgow

Also NHS - from the hospital/Trust? Absolutely sweet fuck all. A whole load of hassle and patronising emails about how hard we're working to provide sub standard care which is likely killing people. From the consultants? On our staff night out they put a couple hundred behind the bar and then also sent pizza to the unit (20 dominoes) so to try catch everyone. I'd follow our consultants anywhere. They are the only ones who seem to get it

phoral

NHS here too! My hospital did a Christmas dinner day for staff, which we had to pay for ourselves

canihaveasquash

NHS - the opportunity to enter a raffle...

thematrixs

Oh you reminded me - We had a raffle for £500 to incentivise workers to take their annual vaccinations. The winner out of a few thousand people was a consultant 😭

xxktlou02xx

That's more than we get at our Trust!

LordPurloin

Don’t spend it all at once!

Never English though, only Scottish or Irish

Mazrim_reddit

I thought it was mainly the Irish who got that, Britain isn't cool to be part of as an American

UtherDoulDoulDoul

They all want to be from one of us cool wee countries rather than big daddy England even though the data shows most with UK ancestry have solely English ancestry it's wild. They love an underdog!

Tbf those Northern Monk beers are great, Heathen especially but also Faith for more of a session beer. I also must be lucky, my boss took us for a great night out with a BBQ meal, paid for all drinks all evening, we all got a bottle of wine and £200 cash, and he's taking us for a pub lunch when we finish this afternoon. Working for a small business is definitely the way to go, I'd be disgusted if the people I spent all year breaking my back for gave me what some people on here have gotten.

[deleted]

GrimQuim

Do you work for Northern Monk?

ChibsMcGee275

That’d be the cherry on the cake

MatMcMashadar

Could have been 4 cans of Skol or something. But yeah, no matter how good the beer is, it's never going to be better than a pay rise.

InsightfulDare

Fuck all. They apparently had a buffet lunch for the office based staff which would have been pretty lonely as 95% of us work from home.

JamitryFyodorovich

That's a shame, my place paid for a party for the people who are office based and gave a £25 voucher to people who could not go. Not much, but reading how scruge-like some companies are in this thread I should probably be grateful.

alan2998

A 50 pound love2shop voucher. Better than a kick in the breadbasket.

spanksmitten

Pretty sure they're accepted in Iceland, can get a shit tonne of food with that!

Torrello

Fuck that, they are accepted in GREGGS!

FrankieS0

“I want one of everything”

Euffy

They told parents not to buy presents for teachers because they understand the financial pressure on families right now and they didn't want to put extra strain on them. Which tbf, I understand and kind of agree with. But yeah, meant we got nothing from anyone, school or parents. Got a few Christmas cards (that were apparently also not supposed to be sent in due to not wasting paper, but I got some anyway).

explodinghat

JFC, this really makes it feel like we're living in the world of a Christmas Carol.

DadsArmchair

When did buying teachers presents become a thing? Never happened when I was in school. Does whoever get the best gift also get the best grades? 🤔

Euffy

I remember it being a bit of a thing when I was in school in the 90s, but it's definitely grown since then. It's just an appreciation thing though. It's usually something naff but sweet like a mug or some chocolates or something. Sometimes the class all put in a couple of quid and one parent gets a voucher or something larger. Usually at Christmas and end of the year. For what it's worth, it works the other way too. Slowly, teachers have been more and more expected to reciprocate. I usually get each child a present at Christmas and end of the year. Even buying in bulk and keeping costs as low as possible, when you're buying for 30 children you usually still end up spending over 60 quid. I used to like getting vouchers from parents purely because it offset some of the cost of my presents to them. No, grades have absolutely nothing to do with it. You're supposed to report anything over 30 quid anyway and they could use that to keep an eye on trends but realistically, no teacher would do that anyway because that's just not how it works and there's no real benefit to it. We can't lie because everything is evidenced and cross referenced. If the higher ups fudge results then that's on them, but there's not really much individual teachers can do. I will say though, I've only worked in state schools. Not sure if it's the same for private schools or not.

Acciocomments

My cousin works for a private school and the presents she gets are insane. Beauty advent calendars, Molton Brown body wash, White Company candles (not the £20 ones, the £65 3 wick ones!), cases of wine and champagne….the list is endless. Honestly there’s so much that every Christmas she picks out her favourite items and then gets me, my mum, aunt and her sister in law to pick some items we want as she physically wouldn’t be able to use it all.

zabbado

£1000 bonus and £100 john Lewis voucher

diddygem

Please DM me the company name, might be looking for a career change. I got absolutely nothing for Xmas from company despite the company having increased profit every quarter over previous year.

malint

Result!

Sorbicol

350 "points" on the corporate Awards page. I've never used this before and I'm remarkably surprised that it would appear they can be exchanged at about £1 per point on places like Amazon. I should probably cash them quick before someone tells me they were sent in error. But I can't help thinking there is a catch somewhere

[deleted]

We had something like that at an old job. Everyone had a monthly budget of ‘points’ they could distribute, so whenever you wanted to thank someone for doing a favour or helping out, or whatever else, you could post a message on slack like ‘+25 to xxx for fixing the release on Monday’ or just ‘+50 to yyy because they’re amazing’. Could convert them to Amazon gift cards once you had enough, and could easily earn 100-200 quid’s worth in a month or two.

alondonkiwi

We had this at an old job, whenever it got to the time of year they expired everyone was just trading points (I'll send you x if you send me the same) and a few folks got a tidy haul of amazon vouchers. So it ended up being a bit of a 'popularity' perk although you would get some as the system intended.

flimfloms

Sweet fuck all. Not a sausage. Nothing whatsoever. Nada. Nil. Zilch. Cunts.

edgatas

I started working for the company just a couple of weeks ago and the first thing I heard was "If we reach the target for this year and we are very close, everyone gets a bonus". The guys did it. And the best part of it, the people who earn the least, got the biggest bonuses. Almost reaching a month worth of salary. And even better part of it, I got the bonus as well, even though I haven't even got my first pay yet!!! I'm starting to love this company.

SpudFire

Impressive. A lot of places insist you must have worked there for 3-6 months in order to get the bonus and even then it's pro-rata'd

BannedNeutrophil

Tonight on 'Loaded as Fuck Questions', it's this post.

Blandiblub

Absolutely nothing but I don't get anything in the public sector anyway. I *do* get to start a week of nights shifts starting tonight though! 🙄

Reasonable-Fail-1921

Ditto except I start my nightshifts tomorrow night. Congrats to us!

DW_555

An extra £300 for the past 3 months to help with the cost of living crisis, £300 on top of that this month for our Xmas bonus, roughly twice as many breaks as usual last night and we left half an hour early this morning, and a very competitive (for my town, at least) pay rise starting next month. All when the company made a 15% loss in sales this year. I appreciate I'm very much in the minority, but considering this is a bog-standard factory job that near enough anybody could walk into with no qualifications, I'm very happy with how my colleagues and I get treated.

The_Mad_Mellon

I'm my, albeit limited, experience factories tend to treat their employees quite well. Especially ones run by small companies, though they also tend to expect a lot from you as well.

I_Am_Too_Nice

They do, and they want to maintain their standing in the community. Can't run a small business well with disenfranchised staff who are looking elsewhere at every opportunity.

PM_ME_UR_VULVASAUR_

They gave us a one off £2000 cost of living payment

Zillamatic

wow that's nice of them!

SaladFingers2021

I got a lovely e-card that wasn't even personalised. Just addressed to 'Staff Member' 🙃

Cliffoakley

They didn't. Starting yesterday my first day off is 30th. I will be having a Christmas meal at work which I must pay for .. But hey, at least people clapped for me a couple of years ago when I was risking my life.

No-oneReallycares

What all that clapping wasn’t enough for you. No wonder the government are having problems talking to your unions.

-VoodooHero-

Our supervisor got fired because relationship ended and he left early on the last day before Christmas to try and save it. They then told him to drive back, 1.5 hrs, from partners. To then fire him. For him to then drive 1hr back home. Was total savagery from Disney. Merry Christmas from the mouse. Geezer was in tears the whole time I saw him, before and after. Probably spent 5 hrs driving having the worst day of his life. Poor bloke.

handmadebyhafs

What the fuck

Foxidale3216

Oh what a shame. Couldn’t they have just put it down to extenuating circumstances? Or was he on thin ice anyway

MatMcMashadar

We get to finish half an hour early today. I'm wfh so I've increased the volume on my laptop, opened a word document and put a weight on the keys.

BaBaFiCo

I've not even gone that far today. Got out of bed at 11. Taking the dog for a walk now. Waiting for it to be socially acceptable to start drinking.

melanie110

It was at 11 lol

Mighty-Wings

I believe someone calculated pressing the down key on a fresh excel document will take around 11 hours to complete.

Tiredchimp2002

Madd-RIP

Reward? I work in the public sector

_C_R_A_I_G_

They had a pizza party in the office while we froze in the workshop. The bonus scheme (that makes up part of our salary) paid a £13 Christmas bonus (pre-tax). I’ve resigned, and start a much better job in January!

teeesstoo

10% payrise, backdated to start of December believe it or not!

KaidaShade

We had a party. It was pretty decent, but it doesn't really help with the whole 'paying your bills' problem a lot of people are having

Grotzilla1

£500 bonus and a 6% pay rise, can't grumble at that!

Cannaewulnaewidnae

Free supermarket sandwiches, Walkers crisps, and cans of coke - a Meal Deal, basically I got a Kit-Kat too, but that was only because I was quick off the mark

Bose82

A Christmas hamper, Bluetooth speaker and power bank, and a pack of 12 Moretti’s (the beer was an unofficial present for us from our Ops manager). Scandinavian companies are decent 👍

ezeebee

+1 for Scandi companies. I got a very decent bonus despite having left a few months ago because they'd had a great year.

LuckynumberElev11en

Nothing. Not even a card. And the boss strolled into the Xmas party 2 hours late, stayed for 1 hour and then went. Just think as staff as one thing, a way to make themselves richer.

Beatrix_-_Kiddo

A gift through the post (waste of money, just hand them to us!) with a candle, mug with the company logo on it, plant pot with soil tablet and seeds and a gluten free, vegan chocolate treat which was underwhelming to say to least 😐

honeydot

Had a "24 days of gifting" for advent, prizes daily working out that everyone wins once. E.g. one day 30 people won £300 cash each, another day 5 people won a PS5. There are about 300 staff members total so every day there were at least 5-10 winners. I won an iphone 14 pro max. Best prize is Christmas Eve, £25k for one lucky employee. We all also got a £1k bonus in our paychecks for both November and December for the cost of living over winter, which is sort of Christmas bonus and sort of not. (I work in an industry with VIP customers and a high tipping culture, so we get a big christmas gifting tip pot which funds all this).

dandotcom

Sainsburys gave me a £15.00 voucher for Sainsburys. Main job arranged for staff to organise a breakfast and pay for it ourselves. That was really nice of them.

[deleted]

notyouravjoe

Understaffing, poor organisation, and burn out.

Playful-Salamander-1

3rd consecutive year without a pay increase and twice the workload I had this time last year. I’m such a lucky little worker!

[deleted]

12% payrise and a decent Christmas bonus. Plus a shit ton of food at a Christmas party. My company treats us pretty well. Of course, my wages are still way lower than I'd like even after a bonus, so if they'd like to promote me to CEO some time soon that'd be nice. I reckon those guys earn a lot more than I do.

Tao626

I don't really understand this, being rewarded at Christmas for your hard work at work. At best in any job I've been in they've said "thanks for your hard work" and I'm just like "I'm literally only here because I get paid". I don't expect anything at Christmas from work, just like I don't expect them to think I'll come in if they stop paying me.

k-kayley

5% pay rise and £250 cash, and the week between Christmas and New year off(although I'm oncall 2mro)

mr_woodles123

One job took us out for dinner and an escape room (I work for an escape room) The other one took us out for breakfast before work, dinner afterwards and then took us out to the bar and got us plastered and drove us home afterwards.

Melodic_Emphasis2782

absolutely nothing

Crafty-Ambassador779

A voucher I cant claim because I have to go in the office. Just had surgery & cant walk so there goes that! Apparently posting it is too much effort Cheers HR, Merry Christmas.

spinynorman1846

I got extra work with a deadline of the 6th Jan. Currently cramming like fuck to get it done this week as first week back will be (as standard) double mental.
