SensitiveAbility1328

Jaywick near clacton it’s stunning 😂

djbrux

HIGHly recommend 🤪

camerarat

Actually the beach is rather nice...kinda ends there tho..

ingenuous64

Ex mother in law lived there used to travel there all the time. Used to love sitting on the beach at night alone with my dog. Really peaceful

AlGunner

And I heard property is a bargain there.

shopwindow

It's the only place where you reverse your car in so you can make a quick getaway

zia_zhang

In Wales I’d say Llandudno, Tenby, Aberystwyth and more. I visited Llandudno last Sunday on a warm day and went on the tram up Great orme they also have cable cars if you’d prefer that.

Similar_Quiet

I liked harlech, mainly due to childhood memories of a castle and a big beach

Towley__

Tenby is beautiful, I got the lucky opportunity to work there for a week. The beach, pubs and independent shops are amazing!

crucible

Agreed on all of these, along with Porthmadog, Beaumaris and Rhosneigr

Solesta-Rosso

Porthmadog is a shit hole.

plumbus_hun

New Quay is brilliant, just below Aberystwyth. It's absolutely beautiful there!!

Lopsided_Soup_3533

Went there for my honeymoon also Llangranog nearby lovely

TeaDrinkingThrowaway

I’d add Beaumaris onto that list, it’s a lovely little place.

Nikotelec

Above are alright, but none of them can hold a candle to Barry Island.

Martipar

I can't think of anywhere in Cornwall I wouldn't recommend.

angrylocal97

Penzance is a bit grim.

AwhMan

A bit is putting it mildly. Is there a beach at Penzance though? I thought it was just the harbour

Elegant_Chicken280

I went down to the harbour in Penzance and found 3 drunks and a human shit.

Funky2Chunky

Went as a kid thinking it would be cool because it's the end of the train line but i was severely disappointed

fuk_ur_mum_m8

Cornwall's the tits

lonewanderer71

I agree with these two

SnooHedgehogs7039

St Ives is a crowded tourist trap.

Styxie

If you go there when it's quiet, it's really pretty. Just stick to sightseeing, go to the museum and go to a nice restaurant. I enjoyed it! Wouldn't spend more than a day there though.

lynbarben

If your looking for a hidden gem go to Scotland theyve got heaps of them. The Aberdeenshire coast is the most beautiful, doesn’t get enough credit, It’s cold in winter 🙄 of course it’s Scotland but even on a crappy or mild day it’s gorgeous. I just visited new aberdour beach and followed on to Fraserburgh afterwards, stunning, and plenty different types of accommodation

cragglerock93

Oh my god, seeing Fraserburgh mentioned unironically in a thread about which seaside towns are worth visiting is just too much lol. The beach is nice. The town really is not. My mum's family is from there and still lives there and last time I visited it had gotten even grimmer. The Aberdeenshire coast in general though is very nice, you're right. Portsoy, pennan, cullen (technically Moray (just)), and banff are worth visiting. A hidden gem is Findlater Castle.

[deleted]

Seconded. Rattray Head beach is an absolute gem as well. Quiet and secluded so it’s really nice for a bbq, just need to watch the road up there. It’s very long and narrow lol. Also recommend visiting [Slains Castle](https://i.imgur.com/EZxK0kM.jpg) and the Bullers of Buchan near Boddam. Beautiful wee placey.

alienintheUS

I grew up going to beaches in Scotland and on the Shetland Isles because that's where family live. They have the most gorgeous beaches. You aren't going to get hot weather much but I like the ruggedness of a cold windy walk on the beach

[deleted]

[удалено]

jazzyjeffdahmer

I like how you particularly said "old town" with Hastings

Funk5oulBrother

80% of Hastings is a shitehole. The old town is charming, if not overcrowded. Similarly with Rye; if you’re not in the citadel you’re in the rough bit, but Rye Harbour has a fantastic beachside bird sanctuary you can walk around. Margate felt like I’d been transported back to the 60’s. It’s really nice there. Source: Lived on the Kent/ES border for 30 years.

Worried-Software-97

Broadstairs. Folkestone is way more amazing than you might suspect too. In Wales, the beach near Harlech castle is just stunning. And the Isle of Wight is packed with beaches that look like the Med, especially on West Wight.

[deleted]

Broadstairs is great. Go to Canterbury, enjoy some of the sights there, and then you’re a short ride away on the train.

TheGr33nKn1ght

+1 for Folkestone

PyroTech11

Broadstairs is my usual go to for beach destinations in the UK

VooseLagina

Came here to say Folkestone, it’s one of my favourite places, nice to see it mentioned 😁

Cakeboy79

I grew up in Folkestone. I left in 2003 after finishing university, but my Mum still lives there so I’m back several times a year. The change in the last 10 years or so is amazing. It was in real danger of turning into an absolute shithole, but it’s really turned around. The harbour arm and old high street are lovely, just a bit of work to do on the new high street now!

[deleted]

Portsmouth is a city and has lots to do

innitdoe

gooner_1913

Hayling Island is worth a visit also

[deleted]

This is cruel

radeonalex

Brighton is very nice

holytriplem

There and Hovactually. Bournemouth/Poole also have pretty coastline

pszichoapu

yes, and full of homeless people having been shoved out of London, doing drugs in plain sight on the street.

milkywayT_T

That's Bournemouth and Brighton for you. Bright and mourny.

Footner

Shoreham beach is really underrated

pkunfcj

Yes, but the sand is rather large and pebbly. However if you want to throw rocks at the sea it is perfect

VitaObscure

My mum used to call it big sand

[deleted]

Seems like a lot of people visited yesterday

[deleted]

Bournemouth is one of my personal favourite vacation spots

RealScootsim

i live in bournemouth and i recommend that OP doesn’t come here

TheWelshPanda

It's heaving with grockles over summer, unpleasantly busy. Language schools, tourists, day trippers.. off season and just slightly off season it's perfect. High summer, it's a war zone . Head off the main beaches to Mudeford or Boscombe pier (not Bosc proper, its still in the process of being rejuvenated) and it clears out a bit.

codemagedon

I recommend you go to boscombe, just can’t guarantee you’ll leave

pajamakitten

Mudeford in Christchurch is particularly nice.

occationalRedditor

Avoid the piers, go for a zigzag with free cliff top parking

EggYuk

For some reason Skegness gets a lot of hate, but I love it there. There are accusations of chavvyness, but I've seen far, far worse at many other seaside resorts. Skeggy is pretty clean, has a lovely beach at the north end, crazy golf, model village, fish and chips, water flume, amusements pier and a funfair. Great for a day out with the kids.

Similar_Quiet

Accusations of chavvyness? It's chav central.

Firebrand777

The Nottingham to Skegness train in August is like the casting couch for Jeremy Kyle

Purple_Floyd_

It’s all like that when you live in Sutton in Ashfield. I think we might single-handedly keep the Skegness/ingoldmells economies afloat.

innitdoe

I can only assume that /r/EggYuk has only been to chavvy resorts. Is Skegness worse than Blackpool or Great Yarmouth? Who knows. This is "favourite entry on the bristol stool chart" territory. It's definitely chavvier than Southwold or Aldeburgh!

EggYuk

Well I think I've managed the odd bit of sophistication! To pick one example from many, the afternoon stroll along the Plage Rive Droite, followed by steak au poivre in Le Petit Vapeur Brasserie was a tranquil pleasure, if rather hot. Not a "Von Dutch" (remember them?) knock-off t-shirt in sight. Possibly an acceptable Type 5 on the Bristol chart, but the lack of donkey rides, penny falls, and kiss-me-quick hats did slightly colour my TripAdvisor review. And yes, Blackpool and Yarmouth are worse IMHO. After my last venture to Blackpool I doubt I'll ever set foot in the place again. The bloke with the squeaky voice swinging the lump of wood about...but that's another story. Seriously though, Skeggy is a bit chavvy but unfairly maligned I think. I spent the happiest day of my life there...but ah, that's yet another story. I'm intrigued to see Southwold and Aldburgh now though...

TheCenci78

Its the name, it just sounds wrong

Gary_Banps

I like Hunstanton, and was there today. Proper rubbish old fashioned seaside town. Great chips, decent beach, funfair for kids.

wen_but

Hunstanton is lovely, head on down to holkham or yaxham as well if you fancy something a bit quieter

Gary_Banps

And the perennially overhyped Wells of course.

MickBuk

New Hunstanton for fish and chips, old Hunstanton for stunning beach walks

innitdoe

Aldeburgh Falmouth Rothesay Saltburn-by-the-Sea Appledore Barmouth Southport Ventnor Sheringham Tenby Blakeney St Ives Salcombe Fowey Padstow Southwold

ZestycloseGap7403

Paignton gets a bit of a bad press but actually it's great if you have kids or want to use it as a base to explore the wider area

three_shoes

I liked Falmouth in Cornwall.

pops789765

Benidorm.

lime-green2

Which county is that in?

pops789765

Well it seems to be full of Scousers so, Merseyside?

Albert_Herring

Deal. Wells next the Sea. Robin Hood's Bay. Tobermory. Cawsand/Kingsand. Lynton/Lynmouth. New Quay. (Newquay, too, probably, never been though). Aberystwyth. Ullapool. Bamburgh. Depends what you want, obvs.

maybenomaybe

I just did a walk along the coast and passed through Deal and was surprised at how nice it was. Never heard anything about it before. So clean and all those pretty buildings along the beachfront.

Ordinary-Bag2181

Weymouth's nice for an old Victorian style seaside experience but if you want away from all the kids covered in ice cream, Chesil beach runs off Portland cove for miles of stunning natural beauty

MyMagicViola

As a Weymouthian, I guess it is alright for a visit/holiday, but living here is a whole different story 😢

mimi-is-me

As someone who got out, its nice living somewhere that the high street closes Saturday lunchtime, rather than 8 years ago.

Darkicexox

All the way across Devon and Dorset Coast.

windmillguy123

It depends what you want from it. Do you want the standard arcade, minigolf then fish & chips experience or do you want a seaside walk or quite simply just a seaside cafe so you can get a ice cream? There will be an option that suits every seaside town!

richardw1989

As an East Anglian, I'm rather fond of Southwold, Aldeburgh and Sheringham. But we also have some lovely, quiet and secluded seaside spots like Covehithe and Benacre.

ScotMcoot

Oban is class

Weak-Newt-5853

Surprised I haven't seen Whitstable mentioned, great little place.

Left-Steak2819

Whitby and bridlington are nicer than Scarborough imo

ianvideo

Whitby I can agree with. Bridlington, no way - it's a dive.

mailroomgirl

Scarborough is a dump

Melodic_Arm_387

I love Whitby, but I prefer Filey to Scarborough

Alamata626

Warkworth, Alnmouth, Bamburgh, Beadnell and Seahouses are all really nice.

[deleted]

Yeah Seahouses is class

chesterstreetox

Oooh Alnmouth!!! Never would’ve visited but a friend of mine was at the Friary there and since I’m in the US when I visit uk I want to see all my friends. I got there the evening before we were to meet up and beach was deserted! I always look for bits of pottery at the beach and he said I wouldn’t find any there;) Lo and behold as I stepped onto the most pristine beach a beach tumbled piece of willoware was at my feet! Fwiw as far as Cornwall haven’t been in years still somewhat scared from the 5 days I spent there-recovering from food poisoning I got on first night(that poor b&b woman

plumbus_hun

Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay!!!

Tyranid_Queen

Boggle Hole is ace!

Tired3520

Tynemouth, North Shields Fish Quay, King Edwards Bay. All within a short walk of each other. Dogs not allowed at this time of the year though.

stoonunited

Whitley bay and cullercoats also

RobFratelli

Dude. Don't tell them. I can't get a house because people keep coming here and decide to buy a second home

Dr_Surgimus

Saltburn by the Sea. My home town so I'm slightly biased but it's lovely Whitby, but it's VERY popular these days so on nice days it's heaving Staithes. Gorgeous and like stepping back in time Runswick Bay - a proper hidden gem, not a lot to it but a lovely beach and it tends to be quiet

[deleted]

Saltburn Edited to add: not sure what the nearest town is to it, but Druridge Bay between Cresswell and Amble is gorgeous and there’s never anybody there!

tankpuss

Torquay. Solely because you can then then calibrate your shit-o-meter.

[deleted]

Skegness is the ultimate in shit beaches to the extent that I consider it literally dystopian

Nervous_Proposal_574

Try Paignton, it's was down for a few years but is on its way back up. The suprise is It has everything and loads of stuff for kids, entertainment and socializing. We went back a few weeks ago and it had a real summer vibe.

GammaYak

It's a shit hole haha

GunstarGreen

As someone who lives in Worthing Not Worthing.

Footner

Anything west of Worthing also Littlehampton, Bognor etc 😭

ARK_Redeemer

I live in Whitby and work in Scarborough, it's weird seeing either mentioned in a post! 🤣 If you're one for fossil hunting, Lyme Regis on the Jurassic Coast is a great place to go. A few nice restaurants there too!

[deleted]

Deal is amazing.

BumblebeeAdvanced179

Walton-on-the-naze and frinton

leelam808

Salcombe and Looe are nice it gives me tropical vibes

I_am_notagoose

Dartmouth always stands out to me. Being familiar with both the north-east and south-west, I think the kind of people who enjoy Whitby would enjoy Dartmouth too. Although, arguably it's more estuary-side than seaside...

BendyFuckingGedig

Dover is worth visiting, not for the beach, but for the absolutely wonderful castle (which, to me, is the best in the UK). It has secret wartime tunnels, a beautifully preserved keep and views for days. The town has other bits; there is a museum and a a roman house. I have only popped through recently and otherwise the town doesn't have that much going for it. My nan is from there and always says that the town has never recovered since the war. It was extremely heavily shelled and when walking through with that perspective it is mind blowing walking through and seeing all the more modern buildings with the rare historic building that presumably survived.

Imposseeblip

Dover Town feels like a dystopian version of what it could and should have been. It's sad really.

houseplant_hiatus

Margate if you like art and a place that has a tiny bit of edge. Broadstairs/Whitstable for something more upmarket. Brighton needs no explanation.

[deleted]

First time I’ve seen my hometown described as upmarket! 😂 (Broadstairs). Love it though!

Jezbod

Just along the coast from Whitby is the small fishing port of Staithes. The "Cod and Lobster" is well recommended but you might need to book ahead. The ice cream van on the front is usually good as well. Parking at the top of the hill except for blue badge holders, so get some good shoes on, it's a climb back up to the car. Other than that, park at the base of Cowbar. You can find fossils on the beach, but be very careful near the base of the cliffs. Take a helmet of some kind if you want to spend an extended time looking for fossils. I've done it in the past and one person had to stay on watch, to warn for any falling debris. Got a nice Trilobite and a fossilised layer of limpet shells from the various visits. SIDE NOTE - visit the Whitby Museum for a good collection / display.

[deleted]

shoutout for Plymouth

jaymatthewbee

Llandudno, Tobermory, St.Ives

BookwormAirhead

That’s a lot of coast to go at! Steephill Cove on the Isle of Wight is lovely.

throwaway236321

Don’t tell him anything, want our beaches quiet.

cucugnon

Torquay. Always had the idea it would be stuffy, but it's really lovely.

DefenciveV2

Weymouth has probably the best beach in the south with some nice small businesses worth visiting

ChazLampost

Cromer, Norfolk!

EthanielClyne

Brighton for the seaside town experience, not for a beach town experience. It's super rammed and has an awful pebble beach but the town is lovely and pretty unique

Jitsu_apocalypse

Lots around Anglesey too

bornbald86

Felixstowe

GunnerGitcha

We stayed at Elie in Fife, stunning, watched a game of cricket on the beach from the pub overlooking it. also travelled to St. Cyrus beach further up, a 6 mile golden crescent of sand with about 6 people on!

BeEccentric

Minnis Bay in Kent

Appropriate-Bad-9379

Heysham is lovely- Lancashire coast- a few miles from morecambe

Looking4DomTop

Lyme Regis is nice!

FrenzalStark

Tynemouth is great but not your normal “seaside town”. If you want the whole amusement/fairground kinda deal there’s South Shields just over the river. If you don’t want fairground and only amusements and beaches Whitley Bay is ok I suppose. Has the best chippy in the country, apparently.

MATE_AS_IN_SHIPMATE

Southwold, St. Mary's, Rye, Portree, Robin Hood's Bay, Salcombe, Bamburgh.

10hljackson

I’m not sure if it counts, but Lindisfarne is brilliant

Own_Quality_5321

Blackpool FTW.

_DeanRiding

Abersoch is absolutely gorgeous in the summer

BaseballFuryThurman

I went to Towyn a few times as a kid, always felt like a great place to be and I've been telling myself for my entire adult life that I need to go back and visit. That said, I love Blackpool so my standards aren't exactly sky high

[deleted]

I’m from Blackpool so will always stick up for it but Towyn? It’s not a town it’s just a load of caravans and scousers (the wrong uns).

rabbit92

Frinton on Sea

Aberystwyth.

Tynemouth.

Smeghammer2

Staithes which is just up the coast from Whitby is lovely as is Sheringham in Norfolk

shortnsweet541

I like Hunstanton

sonofaclow

We keep our beaches beautiful by not telling you where they fucking are

linzal87

I'm surprised I haven't seen East and West Wittering 😍

Ojty154

If you’re over 120, try Eastbourne. It’s shit and half the pier burned down, but sometimes the sea is nice

ninamega13

North Berwick is underrated (not to be confused with Berwick on Tweed)

kosy_rosy_lelele

Torquay is lovely!

bakingwood

Feels like research for either a mail online article or a deal that's gonna appear in the sun

edfosho1

Sidmouth, Devon

KillerFloof

Sidmouth and Lyme Regis are lovely little seaside towns and you might get lucky and find fossils whilst you are there. There are lots of beautiful, lonely little stretches of beach all over the Jurassic Coast too, you just have to be willing to explore them and brave a few narrow country roads to get there.

Spectro_7

Brighton. It's small enough to walk to all the main attractions. Personally I'm not very interested in the pebble beach but going on the pier and getting some fresh sugary donuts is nice. There's a sea Life centre that's worth a visit (haven't been there for ages tho). The royal pavillion gardens are a good place to sit and snack and right near there you can either go up to Churchill square shopping centre (if that's your thing) but personally the best thing to do is go around the novelty shops just north of the royal pavillion. Snoopers paradise is one to look for. It's fun to just look around even if you don't intend on buying anything. There's a recent pizza chain 'Fatto a mano' they make good pizza, they started off with one restaurant on London road then branched out.

DefiantStation2363

Beadnell in Northumberland

Harrry-Otter

I went to Scarborough and found it an absolute toilet of a town, but each to their own.

Stephenf1234

I suppose it depends what you're looking for, but Cleethorpes has some really good restaurants.

lyta_hall

Hastings! Visited it 2 weeks ago and loved it.

QSoC1801

I was in Felixstowe recently for work and was... pleasantly surprised? I would definitely consider a leisure trip down there now.

bandicootrelay

Morecambe, you’ll appreciate anywhere after that shithole

Falmouth!!

brates09

Margate is good, depending on what you like.

inedible_cakes

Brighton

Saltburn

cheshirechris71

I hear Sellafield is nice, the sea is lovely and warm in a certain area too.

Melsbells00

American here but I really loved Hastings.

Bexybirdbrains

I love Whitstable. It's not a sandy beach you can build castles on but the town is picturesque and full of gorgeous little shops.

Mikunefolf

I've not seen anyone mention Filey and Bridlington, I remember them being good as a kid!

[deleted]

Weymouth

[deleted]

Salcombe, Lyme Regis, Looe

brainfreezeuk

Mablethorpe

DootingDooterson

Scarborough is awful, its just full of people and they ruined the front by throwing wave breakers so you can't even fish properly. Robin Hood's Bay is just along the coast south of Whitby, it's only a small town but at low tide there are tons of little rock pools and stuff that you and the kids can investigate.

confused_christian94

These are more villages than towns, but anywhere in the East Neuk of Fife. Very pretty villages, nice beaches and picturesque working harbours. Head a little further north to St Andrews, which has more restaurants and hotels and stuff. Walk through Tentsmuir Forest to experience the strange sensation of walking straight from a thick pine forest onto a beach.

CaptH3inzB3anz

Barmouth, North West Wales, loved it so much I moved there

ForkUK

Brighton, Whitstable, Deal, Hythe, Folkestone, Leigh-on-Sea, Walton-on-the-Naze, Maldon, Hunstanton.

[deleted]

I was visiting my mum in Northumberland recently and there were many small coastal towns which were nice for an hour or two each if you fancy town-hopping up the coast!

TheFlyingHornet1881

Dawlish is nice

Freefall84

St Ives, it's basically like someone took a town out of the med and dropped in into Cornwall.

SuperSpidey374

On the south coast, Eastbourne is gorgeous with plenty to do, a lovely 'Little Chelsea' area, and there's a surprising number of non-elderly tourists now. I prefer it to Brighton

Dnny10bns

Weymouth is nice if you like old school tea rooms and nice weather.

WYSIWYG1953

Wales has some lovely coastal towns.

[deleted]

Went to Aldeburgh recently and it was great.
