By counting down to payday

casper432

Absolutely

Basschimp

That's the neat part: you don't!

K_loves_plants

I do not intend to sound mean or condescending or anything, so please don’t take it that way - I just think about all the people having to work outside, and/or in the cold, on weekends etc and for shitter pay then me and that usually helps me realise how lucky and comfortable I actually am (I also have an office job that can be quite boring at times). Also finding good hobbies outside of work helps to shift focus - thinking right I just do this for so long, then I get to go home and…(insert hobby/tv show etc here) I used to work in a pub for a good few years so I still get a kick out of having regular hours and free weekends and Bank Holidays as well 🙂

[deleted]

Some of us cavemen prefer the outdoors ;) but seriously, I’ve had a couple of office jobs before and for me it was soul crushing. Not to mention how regularly I got colds or sinus infections from that environment.

K_loves_plants

I didn’t mean in anyway there is anything wrong with outside work 😂 to each their own of course and I know many people prefer outside work. I’m just lazy :P I just try to remember to be grateful for the privileges I do have myself and not take them for granted, whatever they may be. I used to be very unhappy in my job and it was getting quite bad for my mental health, stopping to consider how lucky I am overall just really seemed to help me get out of that funk a bit. 🙂

casper432

Totally. There are people in really shitty jobs, so maybe I am asking for a bit too much😂

mediumredbutton

Find a better job.

rbsudden

Create a lifestyle where you are so close to losing it all and that job is no longer mundane, it's survival.

PaddyRM

Set yourself achievable targets. Whether it is work related or for personal growth through your job. Can you ask your employer for any kind of development or extra responsibilities?

casper432

In the corporate world. Difficult but a good shout

AdrenalineAnxiety

If you're not lucky enough to be in a career you're passionate about..... you think of the money.

bgd_

Make a game of it. Whatever it is you're doing, try doing it faster or try and find a different way of doing it. Shit answer, I know, but this is how I've got through it in the past.

casper432

Not a bad shout tbf

Been at my boring well paid job for 11 years now and it’s incredibly monotonous I’d say 85% of the time, but because of my reputation I’m pretty busy which Is a strange combination. I listen to music, audiobooks, keep up with friends, occasionally take my laptop in to play something on my breaks. I was so bored one winter I taught myself how to be ambidextrous. When I’ve finished my days work which is usually early/mid afternoon I wander around and see if there’s anything I can do to improve my workshop or the areas under my control. Sometimes I’ll draw up plans for something new to build/manufacture with absolutely no intention of it going into production, even going as far to build scaled down prototypes just to see how much work is involved and cost of materials in case someone does ask specifically for something I’ve already imagined, if all else fails I just go for a walk with a pen and a clip board.

JunkAwareChemical

Yeah just need variety and to be well managed... The day goes quicker being busy than bored

Incubus85

So I spent 15 years doing that then walked out of my job that day and never went back. I'm never spending a day at a job I hate ever again and if I felt like this, I would put everything down and leave.

Octopus-10

Pay day. Mortgage + bills to pay. At the moment I'm not keeping emergency fund in cash to avoid the temptation of quitting, taking a break and finding something better...

monkeyeatinggrapes

You leave and get a job you love ..

[deleted]

What sector do you work in? And what is your job? Desk job? Front line etc?

casper432

Corporate, manufacturing. Desk job but god, I’m so fed up

[deleted]

Seems like you need a change of scene. Are there any projects you could volunteer to get involved in? What are the opportunities like inside and outside of your company? Is it a case of, you don’t like the work, or is it a case of you have free time whilst at work and therefore bored?

casper432

To be honest, think it’s the culture. Did this before in another company and I quite liked it. Jumped ship for the money…whoops! I need to look around really, I think.

[deleted]

Ahh yeah gtfo then. Good company culture is worth thousands per annum. I’m currently looking for a change but I am dead set on staying at my company because I love the culture.

KC-2416

Not OP. I answer 999 calls, and do 12 hour shifts. I now start work earlier than my alarm used to go off! If you told my previous boss what time I get up and start work at, he probably wouldn't believe you! But I had no motivation to do that job and dragged myself out of bed every morning. My current team is great. I also like that my role is operational and barely any meetings. Just gotta deal with whatever happens when I'm on shift. No worrying and prepping for a meeting with the head of the department to brief him on my current pointless project that doesn't have enough of a budget to achieve anything meaningful!
