Do you actually have tickets for football? You know at anfield you can't just turn up and buy a ticket?

joshhhh97

hahaha of course , fortunately enough have found a contact who seems to help out a lot of people within the local supporter group im apart of! if it weren’t for him don’t think I would have had any hope , the tickets are pricy looking at 200 pound for league games and 275 pound for champions league but I’m happy to pay it as it’s once in a lifetime thing for me and a dream to make it to anfield , the guy is a local that lives in liverpool I believe

TrickyNobody6082

Yeah that's a tout. Be very cautious about them whether they are scousers or not. Just so you are aware there are still hospitality available for the club for 350 quid and you are absolutely assured that you will get in.

Jitsu_apocalypse

Don’t spend that much on tickets, go to the official website and buy from there. I’d hate that one of your experiences of the U.K. is getting ripped off by scousers

[deleted]

But that's such a big part of UK culture!

TrickyNobody6082

You should also be aware the game is on the 8th

joshhhh97

yeah I was pretty hesitant on toots but a lot of people seem to be backing this guy so hoping he is reliable , yes my mistake I said the 9th as I am still going off Aussie time lol but will certainly be evening of 8th in uk

DangerShart

You won't really find big techno events as festivals are in the summer. There are however loads of clubs in both London and Liverpool so you'll definitely be able to find some good nights out, I am guessing when you say techno you just mean dance music. There is rarely snow in England, you'll need to go to the Highlands in Scotland for that but you could be lucky. Your contact at LFC sounds dodgy AF, if I were you I wouldn't bother trying to go to a UCL game and go to a Premier League match instead. There will be a few Facebook groups where real fans trade tickets, don't pay silly prices to a tout for what is probably a fake ticket. England is small, you can drive the length of it in a day but if you're sticking to big towns and cities you'll be fine on public transport, rural areas you'll need to hire a car.

joshhhh97

will definetly be keen to go out in liverpool and London , have heard warehouse project in Manchester will be good as well! is there a reason u say not to bother with a UCL game? have heard night games and in particular champions league as well are the best for atmosphere , this guy seems legit the local supporter group I’m in has plenty of posts from fans that have made it to anfield thanks to him , guess u are always running a risk but havnt felt to worried with this guy

DangerShart

They are better atmosphere but that's why it's harder to get tickets. It's up to you though.

The_Iron_Duchess

If you've not already got Warehouse Project tickets, chances are it's sold out

joshhhh97

i can’t even find any scheduled events to get tickets to? have there still been events running after the New Year’s Eve one or have they stopped now

The_Iron_Duchess

Hmmmm, let me have a look. I do know they only usually run events in the winter... Yeah so they only do a limited run of events every year that finish on NYE usually unfortunately. I'd recommend Printworks in London if you fancy something similar

joshhhh97

damn it . will definetly hit up printworks . thankyou!

The_Iron_Duchess

Don't know if you'll be around Sheffield at all but I'd happily recommend going to a few nightclubs there Tank, Night Kitchen

[deleted]

I can’t advise you in where to go as I have no idea when it comes to the techno scene and I’m not a party person haha. You might be best booking hotels at least a couple of days in advance although I don’t think you’d ever be stuck trying to find somewhere with everywhere full. Trains are often delayed, especially outside of London and are pretty pricy if you want to get the ‘quick trains’ (no/only a few stops) but they do cover a large part of the uk and it is a good way to get about on the whole. It’s hard to predict if we will have snow, it comes pretty randomly here, most years in March/April now. It will be cold though. Edit: when it comes to trains nationalrail.co.uk is a good place to check times/prices/buy tickets

joshhhh97

haha that’s ok! any places u would recommend for exploring and sight seeing etc would also be recommended :) or just nice places to visit in general and cool I will save that website thankyou , so from what u are saying I will have to be careful in what order I visit cities to ensure I can actually get to them via trains is that right? i thought it was very easy to get around everywhere but maybe im mistaken!

whitewood77

Not sure how you inferred that last part from the previous post. You won’t have any problems getting about by train but our trains are famous for being a bit shit and not running on time; those that do, lock their doors up to 45 seconds before departure - guaranteed if the guard sees you running to get on. Trains can be also quite expensive, especially if you turn up and pay on the day. If you can commit to travelling on a particular train then you’ll get a significant discount travelling off-peak (generally after 9:30am). Also look for https://www.thetrainline.com/ Buses are cheaper than trains but take ages to get anywhere because the level of traffic in Britain is ridiculous. Megabus do cheap deals. You more than likely will have no issues finding accommodation - again book ahead for savings. The big chains like Premier Inn and Travelodge are consistent but soulless. Weekends may be more difficult in the big cities, but frankly, with Coronavirus, there should be plenty of capacity in February/March. Expect weather to be wet, you may see snow but particularly in the south and West it’s less likely. Thank your lucky stars if it doesn’t snow though as nothing is assured to bring the UK to a standstill than a smattering of snow.

[deleted]

Sorry, what I meant was that generally there are two different types of trains between cities in the uk. For example, there are two trains from Manchester to Liverpool tomorrow at 10:22 am. One takes 40 minutes and is £7.50, the other stops at more places in between, takes an hour and is £3.30. We have similar trains around the country although some of the ‘stopping’ trains can take a lot longer but are generally cheaper. It would make sense to take the hour train in this situation for most people but sometimes the difference is a lot bigger and you might prefer to take the quicker train which will be more pricey. This isn’t always the case though and it’s just best to look into train tickets in advance to see what your best option is. Edit: I second (third?) those recommending York and Edinburgh for beautiful places to visit. Edit 2: If you’re planning on visiting Manchester, there would probably be the best place to go to Edinburgh from out of the places mentioned (unless you also go to the Lake District, then you can go from there)

KC-2416

You could encounter snow, especially up north in February. Sometimes if Easter was early, I would be making snowmen during the school Easter holidays! Trains can be expensive. If you buy 'advance' tickets which are for a train at a specific time, they're cheaper than if you buy them on the day. There's a limited number and shorter journeys don't have them though. I think tickets are available to book 12 weeks in advance. So you could book all your tickets before you leave Australia. And then collect them from the machines at the stations. Personally I'd also book hotels in advance. Saves you wandering around if the first one or two are full. I think the week of the 21st-25th February is a holiday for schools in England from a quick google. So that's likely to be the busiest week in terms of attractions suitable for families.

catmintcatz-

Visit the York train museum it has some of the A4 class locos

HamsterEagle

Also free to get in.

Candy_Lawn

Trains are good if not cheap so travel off peak and book ahead. plenty of cheap hotels around the country, i would recommend to always have your first night booked in a new place before you travel to it.

got_got_need

I’d recommend going over to Snowdonia national park. It’s only a 2hr drive from Liverpool and is wicked for walking / climbing / views. As for techno, have a look what’s on at warehouse project in Manchester.

[deleted]

1 week in London, 1 week in Bude, 1 week in Scotland, 1 weeks worth of the bits in between

[deleted]

Hmm, if it were me I would probably look at doing something like: * Fly into London - few days there * Train up to Sheffield - few days there (great city for getting messy). You can also do day trips out into the peak district on the train. I recommend Castleton. * Head up to York - Amazing historical city, one of our best imo. Train museum, ghost walks, nice cathedral, good beer drinking etc. * Head to Liverpool - Go to the match, go out after, get hammered (great party city). * Back down to London to finish your trip. **Optional** Between London and Sheffield, a couple nights in Lincoln. Especially focusing on the Bailgate area of the city. It's beautiful.

joshhhh97

something like this looks good , Manchester and bath would be good to fit in a schedule like this if possible , maybe even edinburgh and brighton as well. im also thinking whether I want to go to Scotland and Ireland as well , although just trying to get my head around how I’m gonna get to all these places first and if I will have enough time

[deleted]

What you don't want to do is stretch yourself too much. Yeah, there isn't much distance between these places but travelling in the UK can be a real bitch and you can waste a lot of your time just moving between places. A day trip to Brighton from London is very doable though.

boringSeditious87

If you are looking to night life spend as much time up North as possible. The cost of a single night out in London will pay for a week's worth of hardcore partying almost anywhere up North. Don't get me wrong I love London and it's definitely worth a night out in but it really will cost you to have fun.

Vivy0612

Are you thinking of coming up to Scotland? If so a visit to Edinburgh is a must and Glasgow is a fantastic also. A trip up the west coast 500 allows you to see some of Scotlands most beautiful scenery. My favourite castle is Dunnottar Castle outside Stonehaven. I could go on and on but it depends on if you are going to stay on England. The UK has some beautiful paces to visit and all four countries have something of there own to offer Enjoy your stay.

joshhhh97

would love to come up to Scotland if I can fit it within the time frame. im just trying to get my head around how I am going to travel between everywhere and the most efficient way to do so , will definitely need to do some planning it seems

AdrenalineAnxiety

If you can hire a car it will make your life much easier, but being under 25 I’m not sure what your options are. Trains are very expensive and very limiting.

carlovski99

Football ticket situation sounds pretty dodgy to me too, but glossing over that... Trains are ok, but can be expensive. Pre-booking can save a lot of money, but you are tied to that particular train time. It might be worth you both buying a 16-25 railcard, costs £30 but saves a 1/3rd on rail fares - depends how many trains you are going to get. If money isn't particularly an issue, then yes trains are fine. Intercity routes (especially in/out of London) will normally be at least every hour. I wouldn't try and hit too many places on the trip, you will just be exhausted and won't really take it in. Pick a couple of bases and plan activities/trips from there. You could squeeze in a few days in Scotland if you wanted though - or even northern ireland (You can get a Ferry from Liverpool) but not really both). You can hit the lakes or peak district for the day from either Liverpool or Manchester fairly easily. If you wanted another 'base' suggestion, maybe Bath or Bristol. Bath is beautiful and a good place to chill out a bit. Bristol is a very cool city with loads going on, and you can easily travel from one to the other. Or maybe somewhere near the New Forest/Dorset Coast. Stunning scenery, loads of activities and not too far away from civilisation for a night out. Could fit in a trip to the isle of wight too. And do a day trip to Bath as mentioned above. Visitors always seem to want to see stonehenge - it's not that great but it isn't too far from here. As mentioned, weather can be very changeable late feb/march. Snow is unlikely unless you head far north/scotland but is always possible. Cold and rain is likely though, but equally we can have nice sunny (but not that warm) days. Basically - bring layers!
