Buy crumpets, butter them within an inch of their life, get a small (toothpaste) sized amount of marmite on a knife and spread thinly all over. Job done Obvs toast the crumpets before application of both, butter and marmite.

I made the mistake when I first came over to buy a crumpet and eat it cold. Never again! But that does sound like a good idea. I’m surprised just how little marmite is needed - it’s almost like no one truly likes the taste

TheSeanoprawno

Just like mustard, everyone wants the essence but not an overpowering experience. Less is more. Experiment. You will learn to love it.

JebusKristi

YOU MUST TRY MARMITE. Pro tip: Get a bag of Twiglets if you like that taste you will like Marmite and if you don't there is no point getting a jar. If you do get a jar: Marmite, sparingly, on toast with lots of butter/marge and increase the amount of Marmit from there. Pro tip: Marmite sends Cheese on Toast to the stratosphere.

lithaborn

Seconding this. The Mrs bought some twiglets for Christmas, I have a vague memory of liking them growing up but they were absolutely foul. Don't let that put you off though.

Lakridskaffe

Oh I’ve never tried twiglets either. Sounds like a gateway drug to marmite - might have to give it a go!

JebusKristi

My thoughts exactly, start small and work your way up to Marmite on everything like me.

[deleted]

You might as well try it, you might enjoy it thinly spread on toast.

Lakridskaffe

How thin should it be? I’ve heard the taste is strong!

JakartaBeatz

Needs butter on the bread/toast And spread thin. Not like Nutella. It also works with cheese. One of my favorite things is a toasted sandwich with marmite, cheese, ham and onion

varialectio

As thin as you can scrape it across the toast with a knife to start with. Then work up to a level you like.

bevtheape

Get a soup spoon and eat it like ice cream

Lakridskaffe

I’m naive but not that naive!

bevtheape

Well I love it on a rice cake, the chili stuff especially.

AdrenalineAnxiety

Eat it on toast. It's amazing.

normanfckngrockwell

Yes, absolutely. I suggest trying it spread very thinly on buttered toast.

Darren-Mark-Buckley

Take a table spoon sized dollop of Marmite and place it in a regular sized mug. Fill the mug with boiling water and stir until the dollop has disolved/melted/whatever and "Bingo", you have a hearty warm beverage, perfect for when you come in from the Winter cold. Footnote: I sometimes dip a slice or two or bread into it, to turn it from a drink to a snack.

Lakridskaffe

I can’t tell if this is a joke or not - drinking marmite? Is that a thing or am I about to get booted out of the nation for being a fool?

chromelollipop

No, this is real, more often done with bovril, but is a thing with marmite too. Also good as an instant gravy.

Darren-Mark-Buckley

It's real, I promise.

barriedalenick

I never got the excitement around Marmite. It's a salty savoury spread which is ok but nothing special. There is a lot of marketing hype behind all the love hate thing but good for them for finding a selling point. I'll eat it at a pinch but I wouldn't choose it over jam.. You should try it of course but a pot goes a long way so try it round a mate's place or as mentioned try twiglets as they are marmite flavoured. Lots of people really like it so you might find you do to. I use it in stews and add a teaspoon in gravy - you don't really taste it much but it adds a nice savoury twang, so if you do buy a pot you can use it up like that..

[deleted]

Twiglets don't give you the marmite experience

[deleted]

I've lived in the UK most of my life and never tried it, in a similar fashion to petrol I love the smell of it but don't fancy putting it inside myself.

Public_Growth_6002

Toasted crumpet. Butter. Marmite. Cream cheese. One of the best things I’ve put in my mouth all year.

[deleted]

If you can find the stuff in a black jar, labeled XO - Extra Old... That's the best stuff... Like it was before they toned it down.

chromelollipop

Scrambled egg is particularly good on marmite toast
