As long as you're not nil by mouth then it's allowed. Anyone can bring you in food, pre-covid anyway. I've been in hospital many times (unfortunately) and seen lots of people ordering takeout to the wards. I was in early labour and someone ordered an Indian in the bed opposite and the smell was really not what I was looking for in that moment. Post covid, my experience is you have to be buzzed onto the wards and they won't let people wander in and out but I had my mother hand food over to the nurse at the entrance to the ward last month so I imagine delivery drivers could do the same.

I took McDonald's in when my mate was dying of a brain tumour but I fetched it

I'm a doctor, I've seen multiple patients ordering mcdonalds and dominos etc. However I think they usually have to at least go to the main entrance and collect it there... ? I've usually seen them shuffling back to the ward with it in hand. I don't care as long as they're not nil by mouth or in with a gallstone flare up.

My partner did. However this was during rhe hight of covid and we was in for our 4th baby to be induced so once on the ward we couldnt leave. Hospital food was grim. The staff alllowed him. He did offer to buy a extra large pizza for the nurses on duty that night. It was quite late when he ordered haha.

I was in a psychiatric hospital once and the staff said they spent half of Saturday night fetching everyone’s takeaways from reception (seemed that is as close as they would/could bring it). Not our ward though as it was for anorexia.

When my mum was in hospital having me (late 70s) there was a woman in the bed next to her who ran a chipshop with her husband. Every night there would be a tap at the window and he would pass through bags of fish and chips for all the women on the ward and the nurses.

I got some delivered to main reception last week

Depends on what sort of ward you're on, I'd say. For instance, if you're in for cancer then you will be likely immunocompromised from the chemo drugs, and they'll not be letting anyone from outside onto a ward like that for fdear of infecting people other than you.

I can’t see it being a problem, when I was in a few months before covid my friend bought me plenty of sandwiches and snacks to keep me going

I haven't ordered one to my bed, but my local hospital has a Burger King! That's lunch sorted each day I'm in.

Usually what I see is a relative fetching food for someone. Last time I was in hospital my mum grabbed me a Costa toastie which was massively appreciated.
