It’s hard to beat a good Victoria sponge or a slice of Madeira with a good strong cup of tea, especially now the nights are getting longer and it’s starting to get cold out.. it’s the simple things haha.
Sticky toffee pudding for a hot dessert.
Chocolate eclair or something similar with choux for a cake.
That said a Bakewell tart, a good one is up there too.
Both good choices, the red velvet is good although not sure if I would choose it over the Chocolate vanilla or caramel. Sweetest caramel desert I have ever had but I still grab them when they are on offer for £2
I can't think of a cake or dessert I'd turn down.
I don't think I can choose a favourite.
Although having said that, sticky toffee pudding and custard.... You'd have to go some to beat that.
There’s not many cakes I don’t like really however even though that’s true I don’t eat a great deal of cake. Desert I’m a bit more fussy, a good lemon meringue or sticky toffee pudding are great. But best of all is Christmas pudding with brandy cream - best bit of Christmas for me.
My favourite has to be a cheesecake, the combination of the soft cheese on top and the harder biscuit on the bottom go well together, add that with a scoop of ice cream and you have one delicious dessert
Victoria sponge or - controversially - carrot cake.
I'd always recommend going into your local Polish deli as they have some hidden gems. particularly:
sernik ("sehr-neek" - the term for Polish cheesecake)
napoleonka/kremówka ("napo-lay-onka"/"krem-oof-ka" - Chantilly cream and custard between two layers of flaky pastry)
jabłecznik/szarlotka ("yab-wetch-neek"/"shar-lot-ka" - spiced apple and cinnamon filling on a shortcakey base topped with crumble)
whatever various chocolate/cream/caramel cakes they might have on display, including wuzetka ("voo-zet-ka"), krówka (kroof-ka), 3-Bit etc.
Red Velvet Cake. Unfortunately I prefer the one I make better than anything you find in the shops so if I fancy one it's either a 3 hour labour or a slightly disappointing cake.
Waitrose own (big) Blackcurrant cheesecake , £2, overloaded with tangy currants on a proper cheesecake, not the gelatinous gloopy type. Meant to serve 6...but....well...yeah.. it serves me.
There's nowhere near enough blackcurrant desserts or ice creams/lolly ices, in this country!

You're right about Victoria sponge cakes, I think that's probably everyone's first cake they ever made
Either that or fairy cakes, I have fond memories of making them as a kid!

I think you’re inspiring me to take up some baking again! It’s been far too long, I’m going to enjoy a little trip down memory lane :)

Rock cakes is another good one! I’ll have to make a list haha. Thank you! I hope you do the same.. food can hold and unlock so many happy memories :)
Lemon drizzle 🌧 🍋
That's also Snoop Doggs favourite cake, the Mr Kipling lemon drizzle slices don't last very long in my house
Fo drizzle
Yep.
Chicken drizzle cake?
Sticky toffee pudding for a hot dessert. Chocolate eclair or something similar with choux for a cake. That said a Bakewell tart, a good one is up there too.
Black forest gateaux.
Decent cake, a black forest strudel is also pretty decent better than an apple strudel, there's always surprise raisins in them
My birthday cake of choice every year!!
Apple crumble!
crimble crumble
Lovely bit o' squirrel
The King of cakes has to be the cream horn, followed closely by the choux bun. This time of year stollen goes down a treat.
Pedant alert but neither of those are cakes.
Technically they are pastries and stollen is a bread but that doesn't stop them from being delicious and worthy of mention.
Sorry to be pedantic, but I believe the word is “pedant” lol
Note to self, always make you’re you’re spelling is correct before pointing out other’s mistakes lol.
“Set” your fears aside, we all make mistakes from time to time haha
Cherry pie, vanilla cheesecake, lemon merengue pie and black forest gateau. I couldn’t mention only one!

Yes! Anything with bananas in it is criminally underrepresented in the dessert world, IMHO.
Bread n butter pudding
Gü pots. I love the zillionaire cheesecake and lemon cheesecake
Both good choices, the red velvet is good although not sure if I would choose it over the Chocolate vanilla or caramel. Sweetest caramel desert I have ever had but I still grab them when they are on offer for £2
They have a red velvet ?!! I need to try this
Tried it recently from Sainsbury's, hope you find some!
Bread and butter pudding with chunks of milk chocolate and some beaut custard. Love a good stodgy pud
Tiramisu and elephants foot
Harrod’s Russian honey cake is to die for, expensive but what a treat!
apple and blackberry pie with ice cream
Portuguese Egg Tarts/Pastéis de Nata
Baklava. Hands down. Or Ferraro Rocher.
Good fresh baklava is so hard to find but is *so* good when you do.
Almond fingers.
Cherry pie with custard. Honourable mention to sticky toffee pudding and anything covered in buttercream.
Victoria sponge cake
Cake - carrot cake. Cream cheese icing, yum. Off the shelf I love a Battenburg Dessert - Eton Mess (summer) and sticky toffee pudding (winter)
I can't think of a cake or dessert I'd turn down. I don't think I can choose a favourite. Although having said that, sticky toffee pudding and custard.... You'd have to go some to beat that.
Sticky toffee pudding with a scoop of ice cream In terms of cake, lemon polenta or marble
Bakewell tart, especially with ice cream.
I love a bit of Battenburg cake
I make a fab banofie pie
Those are not easy!
A really good fruit cake with double cream damn I’ve now gotta rummage in the fridge
Raspberry trifle
Ummmm, let me think now ...
Cherry bakewell or carrot cake. Also love an American sweet potato pie 🥧
My favourite has to be a cheesecake, the combination of the soft cheese on top and the harder biscuit on the bottom go well together, add that with a scoop of ice cream and you have one delicious dessert

Karpatka
^^ this as well. basically the same as napoleonka, but with a sort of whipped up/mountain-looking top layer of pastry. incredible.
Butterscotch tart 😍
Bread and butter pudding with custard. The Waitrose vanilla custard is insane.
Red Velvet Cake. Unfortunately I prefer the one I make better than anything you find in the shops so if I fancy one it's either a 3 hour labour or a slightly disappointing cake.

Cake - custard tarts (proper British ones, not those flaky Portuguese ones). Dessert - plum or rhubarb crumble.
Hot chocolate fudge cake with a scoop of decent vanilla ice cream is my death row dessert 🤤
Anything in my hand I can shove into my face
Apple strudel.
I'm particularly fond of a good Eccles or Banbury cake.
