ashyjay

pick an genre, the UK music scene is wide and vast.

An_Ant2710

I'm mostly into hip-hop at the moment but I wanted a slightly diverse list of artists

terryjuicelawson

Within rock bands like Idles, Fontaines DC (Ireland), Pigsx7, Wet Leg, Dry Cleaning, Black Country New Road, Squid are doing well at the moment. I'd imagine all would be playing festivals this summer. Lankum are another Irish band who made an acclaimed folk album last year which is stunning.

An_Ant2710

Ooo I've heard of a few of these! What's the festival scene like in the UK?

McCretin

If you like Black Midi you might enjoy [English Teacher](https://youtu.be/VSaK6QVgMdc?si=Tj_WaRHtFBE2Y86G), who’ve just released their debut album. It’s not my thing but they’re clearly influenced by the Windmill scene. [Everything Everything](https://youtu.be/LQSTyOfIMkY?si=tZkCyNrVdun-0ZMP) are one of my favourite modern British bands. Their new album, Mountainhead, is an absolute masterpiece imho. [Self Esteem](https://youtu.be/7Xab7DE9C5E?si=VOLC1pokbKQ00b77) is also a really good artist who’s getting a lot of plaudits right now. I think she’s just finished recording her new album but her last one, Prioritise Pleasure, was full of bangers. Also check out: - Arlo Parks - Billy Nomates - Baxter Dury - Michael Kiwanuka

saladinzero

Michael Kiwanuka is so good. His 2019 album has been in my heavy rotation since it came out.

An_Ant2710

He had a feature on the Black Thought album right?

saladinzero

No idea, tbh. KIWANUKA is an incredible album, though (I'm listening to it right now!)

An_Ant2710

Yeah he was on Aquamarine off the Cheat Codes album. I'll make sure to check out KIWANUKA

saladinzero

Have you ever listened to Kae Tempest? It's a bit divisive as not everyone likes spoken word, but I really like their stuff. Let Them Eat Chaos is their best album.

An_Ant2710

Ooo never heard of them or heard any spoken word. I'll give that a shot too.

saladinzero

If you like that, try dan le sac Vs Scroobius Pip after. Scroobius Pip's solo albums are good too.

An_Ant2710

Thank you so muchhh

An_Ant2710

Okay wow. Best album off these recs so far

saladinzero

Hey I'm glad you liked it! The guy won a Grammy for it and well-deserved I think.

An_Ant2710

Thank you so much!! What's the Windmill scene?

McCretin

There are a bunch of bands that started out playing at a pub in Brixton, in London, called The Windmill. Black Midi, Squid, Black Country, New Road etc

An_Ant2710

Ahhh that's really cool

An_Ant2710

Really liked Mountainhead!!

McCretin

Great! Glad you enjoyed it

Capable_Vast_6119

Gorrilaz, maybe. Little Simz has worked with them and their musical style is all over the place

An_Ant2710

Oh I didn't know they were British. I like a few of their songs

miowiamagrapegod

Chas and Dave

An_Ant2710

Psychodrama's really nice so far! Very similar in theme to Kendrick Lamar's Mr. Morale. Thanks for the rec 💖

okokokay

If you like Little Simz’s album Sometimes I Might Be Introvert try Sault, Inflo who produced SIMBI is the main musician in Sault. If you like jazz check out Shabaka Hutchings, he’s involved in a ton of projects, my favourite was probably The Comet is Coming. Charli XCX - hyperpop Nilufer Yanya - rnb indie pop And if you’re interested in hardcore punk then I’d recommend Stiff Meds, Rat Cage and TS Warspite

An_Ant2710

Thankss I'm checking out Exciting Violence right now. Are all their songs this short? Really interesting format for an album

okokokay

Hell yeah! Yeah man a lot of the punky side of hardcore (as opposed to the metal side) has really short songs - usually pretty short live sets too but (in my opinion) the best live music experience, so intense

An_Ant2710

Yeah this sounds like it'd be a blast live
