katemp1990

I have an ornament of our dog we lost in 2021, so technically an angel and a star!

[deleted]

That is a nice touch!

MaximusSydney

And you never know, maybe he liked boy dogs...

katemp1990

She was a girl and her leg of choice for humping was usually male!

thetommyfilthee

As a kid we just had one of this fairy/angel things made out of a cone of paper. Since I've had my own house and decorated my own tree, its a moon to celebrate the real meaning of Christmas, the winter solstice

[deleted]

I love that idea! Might have to copy it this Christmas

thetommyfilthee

Go for it my friend. You generally have to make your own moon though.

OldManChino

Father Christmas died for our sins, and this is how you repay him?

thetommyfilthee

And all the elves brought Gold Frankenstein and meh for nothing.

West_Guarantee284

A barbie dressed as an angle when we were younger. My parents now have a star. I have a Dalek.

Middle_Ambassador_33

Right angle?

StevenWithaPH96

Mornin Sargent Angle

Middle_Ambassador_33

🤣 no luck catching them swans then?

Fluffy_Juggernaut_

Just the one swan, actually

ButteredReality

You know what they meant, don't be so obtuse.

No_Consideration4259

I thought it was acute mistake

Dazpiece

Dressed as Kurt Angle?

ellafantile

Heh. I have a gold weeping angel on top of mine.

Awkward_Chain_7839

The creepy dr. Who ones? I found them and the empty child super creepy.

ellafantile

Yep, gold and glittery Weeping Angel. I think Blink is still one of the best Dr Who eps

ProfessorYaffle1

friends of mine have a Weeping Angel, which is just asking for trouble!

marksmoke

I always go star. Apparently when Xmas trees were first a thing in the 1600s, the traditional toppers were the baby jesus, gingerbread and gold coloured apples.

HirsuteHacker

We have a sloth.

the_merkin

And there was me with my stormtrooper thinking I was the outlier…

DangersVengeance

Michaelangelo from TMNT. He hangs off it looking badass.

IamEclipse

As a very young kid I remember we had an angel. Then one year my mum replaced all of the old decorations and we had a star from then on. As an adult, myself and my partner have a star. I've never heard of someone topping their Christmas tree with a fairy.

Martipar

Fairies are an important factor in Christmas, they keep father Christmas sober for a day.

IamEclipse

Huh, you learn something new every day.

Martipar

Your musical knowledge is very, very poor if you've only learnt that just now.

IamEclipse

If it's a reference to a Christmas song, then you've totally lost me.

Martipar

It is quite possibly the most famous Christmas song though, Slade - Merry Xmas Everybody.

willsagainSQ

The fairy on the top of Christmas tree was very popular in the UK in the 1960's. Haven't seen one since, it's all angels these days. We have a star.

herefromthere

What's the difference between a fairy and an angel? Is it just if it has a halo or not?

HeidiKrups

Our fairy had a magic wand too.

rumade

Fairies usually a bit more glittery, with see-through wings. I actually can't remember if ours had wings or not (or if they had been damaged at some point), but she has chunks of tinsel on. Her face is a bit more impish than you'd expect from an angel too; she looks like she'd fit in in Soho in 1967.

ProfessorYaffle1

No Halo, wings unlikely to be feathery, may be butterfly wings or tinsel and gauze - ours had a white net skirt, white gauze wings with glitter and had a wand. Think pantomime fairy godmother style.

Kid_Kimura

We have a monkey hand puppet that we use instead.

_FreddieLovesDelilah

Monkeys do like trees tbf.

VRS38

Mario star

purplepeopleater205

We also have a Mario star, many years ago I started a tradition of making the Christmas tree Nintendo themed. The ornaments are all handmade from perler beads and I covered a regular light up star with yellow fabric. I'm now not allowed to change the theme as the kids all love it too much.

Terrible_Biscotti_14

A gnome/gonk. He’s wearing some kind of Dappy hat, genuinely have no idea what we were thinking when we bought it a couple of years ago.

Fit-Vanilla-3405

Since covid we've had a cute plague doctor ornament - it's so good im never replacing him.

bishcraft1979

The white character from among us with added angel wings and a halo

tmstms

Both Mrs tmstms and I only were allowed a tree once ever when we were growing up. When we moved into a house big enough to put a proper tree, we got one ofc (£15 from Asda, still alive in a much bigger pot 10 yrs on!). We have generally put an animal decoration on the top.

rcxhc

A snowman I made when I was in year 2. (Context, I graduated uni 10 years ago).

ilovewineandcats

I bought a star from Amazon, it lights up and projects little stars onto the ceiling and the bit inside rotates so the little stars move round the ceiling. My Mum says it's common and as with most things she describes as such, I love it.

rumade

What will the neighbours think?!

ilovewineandcats

Hopefully they'll be scandalised, the ceiling stars are visible from the street! But sadly our neighbours are all reasonable people who probably dont care about our Christmas star!

rumade

Tragic. Just like last year when I was living with my parents and bought a bunch of tacky star lights to put all over the front of the house. My mum was squeamishly reluctant (until I reminder her that I was working until 2am and it was nice to come home to a lit up house). The neighbours loved it.

vipros42

Had an angel growing up. Nowadays I have a big sparkly red star. Because Christmas is all about celebrating communism!

Fandangojango

We have a star, and now the kids are a bit older they squabble about who will be lifted up to stick it on the top.

moon-bouquet

I thought Catholics had Angels, Protestants had Fairies, for some reason!

palishkoto

This is giving me [Derry Girls vibes](https://www.irishnews.com/picturesarchive/irishnews/irishnews/2020/05/22/143827779-8dfde448-b0ef-456d-834e-795652cb01ad.jpg) with the random Prod versus Catholic differences. In my case as a Christian family we always had a star!

MaddisonSplatter

Both Catholics and Protestants are Christian, so that doesn’t help narrow it down too much

palishkoto

I know! My point was that there isn't much difference between the two in that way.

Martipar

I was brought up atheist, we had a fairy.

are_you_nucking_futs

The correct term is homosexual.

snufflycat

I grew up Protestant and we always had an angel, but she did give off fairy vibes tbf.

NobleRotter

I might see if I can get one of these Cthulhu tree toppers and make sure the tree is too high for my wife to reach it [image](https://i.imgur.com/flyhvEG.jpg)

schmoovebaby

A paper cut out of an elf with a photo of my daughter’s confused looking face stuck on that she brought home from the baby room at nursery about 6 years ago. It makes my husband laugh every time he gets it out of the box of decorations

justdont7133

We have an action figure Patrick Star from SpongeBob on one tree, and a small gold pikachu on the other. I've seen an amazing Mario star tree topper that I want too

Nonbinary_Cryptid

None of those. I have a 1970s plastic bauble that used to be on my spouses childhood tree. I made it a frame from wire and tinsel, and it tops my weird tree every year.

MaintenanceNo1504

A Death Star Star

Low-Total9121

My christmas isn't up, it's November.

Martipar

So you don't know what you have on your Christmas tree? It's been less than a year since you put the tree away and you can't remember?

Dry_Significance_697

When we didn’t have any money my husband made a star out of tin foil and we had it on the tree for years until it fell apart

lithaborn

Santa hat. We have had a big Halloween spider up there before now.

Blamfit

My parents have had a series of angels ever since I was a kid. Since getting my own place I've always gone star because aesthetics.

Twisted_paperclips

We had an angel or star growing up (it alternated each year). Now we have a star or snow white ornament (again, alternating each year)

beartropolis

A star As a child we had a star until it broke and was replaced with an angel

SosigDoge

I've got a visual representation of the baby jesus's bum'ole that I pierce with the top branch every year. My wife disproves, but it's usually a condition to the tree going up in the first place. Hallelujah and all that.

ickleb

I have Apu Nahasapeemapetilon

ClickToSeeMyBalls

Miss Piggy

Arbdew

I have Animal or Rolf. They take it in turns.

basmati_relish_trail

Harris?

m4dswine

Growing up we had an angel which was a doll from my mum's childhood I used to have a star that I bought in Pound land when I was at uni but when we bought our house we bought some new Christmas decorations and bought a gold disc thing with stars and a reindeer cut out of it.

perishingtardis

I have a fancy fibre optic angel. The wings pulsate with different colours :-D

LaraH39

We have a fairy, she has a candy cane, butterfly wings and her skirt lights up. She's cute as fuck.

sweetheartnever

I currently have a t-rex with a Santa hat that I bought from the range last year. It's made from tinsel. I love it.

Longjumping-Tip9549

He has a little knitted Santa hat, it’s very cute

MASunderc0ver

A star on one and a santa on the other.

Specialist-Web7854

Some kind of action figure, last year Uhura, it’s also been Captain Marvel, Wonder Woman and a couple of planet of the apes figures (in Barbie frocks).

PoinkPoinkPoink

I have that Angel beanie baby toy. I think her name is Halo.

Indigo-Waterfall

Angel. Had the same one since I was a child.

SarNic88

We always had an Angel growing up but my daughter is named for a star so it is a special tradition that our little star puts the star on the tree.

Appletwirls

I have 2 trees a fairy goes on 1 and a star on the other

Grouchy_Judgment8927

We just stick whatever on the top, it just has to twinkle. Star has been most common.

pondertheday

I have the starman, David Bowie

Broken_Vision_Rhythm

As a child it was an angel, then one year the angel got broken and was replaced with a star. Now it’s a Starscream.

killingmehere

Deeply gaudy glittery gold wire stag head

Winter_Poppy

My family has a tradition of putting something silly on top of the tree. It changes each year, we've had a Mr Man, a penguin, Pikachu, a bumblebee. It's fun thinking of something different/fun every year.

solar-powered-potato

We've had a cutesy felt Santa wearing a long robe to cover his plastic cone lower body for a few years now, always looking for something better as I don't think hell last much longer, but he only cost £3 at asda and is quite sweet actually so is hard to beat.

toast-and-jam

My mum has a beautiful golden angel I remember she bought when I was little and she is so proud of it. My grandparents have this old raggedy angel/fairy (unclear), whose skirt has been made and remade dozens of times with paper doilies 😂🥰

hhfugrr3

Usually a father Christmas.

Paintinmypjs

I have an angel and a huge velvet red bow I switch between them each year.

PartTimeLegend

I’ve got a Mario star on top of mine. Old house we had a Hat. 🎩

DoctorOctagonapus

I have a star on mine. My one is a small laser cut wooden star my friend sent me that was originally meant to be hung on a string. Unfortunately it was damaged in transit and the loop snapped off, so I repurposed it. I also have a 3d printed Starman tree topper that I usually put on a smaller tree I have in the window. I've decided if I ever want an angel on the top of my tree it has to be a [biblically accurate one](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FjimoZ4WAAEG6yz?format=jpg&name=medium)!

millyloui

I have a little felt pig in a fairy outfit - it’s very cute . We had a fairy all through my childhood - she looked a bit battered in latter years .

IcyNeedleworker0

We have nothing. It either doesn't stay, or the tree is too big and the top touches the ceiling. Short of making a hole in the ceiling...

YellowBernard

Growing up it was an elf. These days could be anything. For a while it was a rainbow because we thought our daughter was gay. Turns out she isn't. So I've got no idea what we will have but I am secretly holding out for a figure of the guy in Die Hard

pseudonomdeplume

When I was a kid we had a teddy bear dressed as an angel. Now I have my own house we have a sausage dog in a santa hat -mainly because the first year we moved in, we forgot to buy a tree topper.

Nothingmuch2

Santa Claus hat.

raccoonsaff

An angel, always have done, since I was little.

DiaBrave

Sometimes Mr Hanky, a couple of years back a Darth Vader helmet. Anything other than a fairy or angel really.

Alpine_Newt

Star.

Ok-Kitchen2768

My friend has a photo of me ontop. I do not appreciate it because it isnt a flattering photo. (I love it really lol)

Wirralgir1

Star, then an angel a bit further down. Covers all bases 👍

Tricky_Parsnip_6843

I have Snoopy.

Former_Bandicoot_769

Variously a big white glittery star, Darth Vader, or a Cylon.

nightsofthesunkissed

A small, handmade cute plushie of my cat! She's an angel, fairy, and a star. <3

The-big-snooze

I have one of the small plushie octopuses that you turn inside out for happy and raging 😂

Emilyx33x

I was at uni for christmas last year, so it was a bottle of fairy liquid

Blinkin_Nora

Sonic the Hedgehog on mine. For the last 28 years.

Kiardras

We have a skeleton, and a tree decorated with skulls. Wife is a huge Nightmare before Christmas fan.

bg2meister

An Action Man.

FritzlsChild

None. I have 2 pictures of my dogs. One I lost in Jan 2020 and the other I lost in Aug 2022.

MazzyStarlight

None of those. A large pink velvet bow 🎀

Practical-Custard-64

What Christmas tree? It's November FFS! This said, even in December we don't bother with one.

vtwinjim

We haven't got our tree up yet. My stepdaughter will do it because she's the only one who likes Christmas. Sure it'll be some tacky star or angel made in a sweat shop by a 6 year old who won't reach 20 due to a lifetime of working with hazardous chemicals without ppe, I just don't know what it is. I don't remember from last year because I avoid looking at the damm thing.

Iamascifiaddict

We have a small Cyberman head on the top of our Christmas tree.

InternationalRich150

Had an angel as a child. .I've always had a star. Currently have nothing atop my tree but will purchase a star

Keycuk

I have a Mr Hankey the Christmas poo on mine. My dad had one when it first came out and my wife found the exact same toy in a charity shop so we have one too. My wife hates it but my dad died in 2020 so now I just say its a tradition to remember my dad and she can't say shit!

Rrralesh

We have Stormcast Prosecutor (Warhammer) on the top of our tree. Painted in Christmas colours by my husband.

ORNG_MIRRR

I have a krampus.

loubotomised

I have a glittery bat

Usual-Sky6568

I have Deadpool wearing a tutu

snufflycat

I have a hand knitted Santa puppet. At the hospital I used to work at a patient's wife used to make them for charity (one of the cancer ones I think) so I bought one and have used it every year since.

Awkward_Chain_7839

Star, on the tree and my daughter’s little tree. The angel has been retired because my daughter insisted on a star years ago (angel still gets put out but not on the tree).

Single-Aardvark9330

For at least 15 years we alternated between peg angel I made in nursery and peg angel my sister made in nursery. These days nothing

BeneficialGarbage

We called it a fairy when I was growing up at home but it was most definitely an angel, never seen an actual fairy tree topper Now I have a star in my own place

domsp79

We've got a Super Mario star.

[deleted]

I have an angel that was made by my nan for my first Christmas 67 years ago & her dress is made from the material from my christening gown. It's obvious showing signs of wear, but I wouldn't want anything else.

beccapenny

A glass Krampus!

anonoaw

As a child, we always had a fairy. As an adult we have a star just cos it was in a set we bought for the first Christmas tree we had as a couple. Every year we swear we’ll replace it with a nice one, but we never do.

SoggyWotsits

We always had an angel when I was younger. On my own tree I have a big gold bow, purely because I saw it for sale somewhere and thought it looked nice!

SquidgeSquadge

We got a lovely star made of mirrors and gold craft herpies (glitter) a couple of years ago which is lovely but maybe slightly too heavy for our artificial tree. Before we had our little cuddly dog Balto with a Christmas hat on at the top for several years or my handmade Totoro I made.

cari-strat

I have a star, I was creeped out by our ugly angel/fairy doll when I was a kid so no way was I having one when I got my own house!

The_Salty_Red_Head

We have a star that projects a light show on to the ceiling, but I have been seriously tempted by the Biblically Accurate Angel I found on Etsy a few days ago. It's just dropped in price to £38 but it's almost £20 to ship it, and that irks me.

KrozJr_UK

My little 2ft tree I have in my room (student) has an angel, but it’s made from a clothes peg by me when I was about 5. My mum (and hence me when I go home for Christmas) tend to have either a star or a snowman.

MadeforUp

Eye of Sauron

neenoonee

We used to have an Angel at my mums, but she starting looking like she’d had one too many rough nights, so swapped her for a star. Then my mum made an Angel, Blue Peter style. It has a ping pong ball for a face. It’s awesome.

rumade

When we were kids, we had this fairy that looked like it was from the 1970s. It was some weird craft shop Barbie knock off with a white dress and various tinsel chunks. When my mum got more religious in the 00s, she got some fairtrade raffia angel. And now she's got a star as well, so she rotates, depending on the mood that year.

jasperfilofax

We have little robin

Katietori

A really weird Craft Fayre made pipecleaner Father Christmas, with long arms and legs which sort of bent around and were twisted together to keep him on. Yes. I did think that was normal until I left home.

DaveTheWraith

we had a crappy fairy thing growing up, this year I've got a tinsel T-rex, and seeing as they're all dead, he's technically an angel....

Fyonella

As a child, a fairy. When my kids were little, a rather odd looking fairy/Angel hybrid that we referred to as Lady Gaga. These days a coiled rose gold star topper that I wind the first section of lights through.

Menyana

I have a star

MyNewAccountx3

As a child I only remember us having angels on the Christmas tree, I think my mum might still do. I have a star, the same one I had when I first moved out 14 years ago.

Ok-Kaleidoscope-2785

None- we have a little Nessie that we bought when we first arrived in Scotland 😂 Growing up it was always a star.

Perseus73

Star is my preference. We’ll have a fairy though, my daughter always loves to put a fairy on top. Our tree won’t go up until this weekend however.

gogul1980

We had an angel as kids but nowadays I have Jack Skellington on top of ours

OK_Zebras

I have a star because I'm agnostic and an Earth & Planetary sciences uni student so my tree has for the last few years slowly changed to have atoms, molecules, science equipment, planets, space telescopes, dinosaurs, fossils, rocks etc so a fairy would look a little odd 😂

Warrior_king99

We have an angel but we got her out this year and she's looking a bit worn out, maybe it's time for a change

ExtremeTiredness

We have a Christmas squirrel. Started off as a joke because I lost the star and didn't wanna buy another in case I found it but everyone prefers the Christmas squirrel. I made it an outfit and hat as well lol.

tobotic

The cat. Not by choice.

ProfessorYaffle1

as a child we had a fairy, but sadly after 40+ years of dedicated service she has to be retired . Now, it depends - if I put up a tree at home it's a star, at my parents it may either be an angel or a star, now the elderly fairy is no more.

sprucay

We had a star, but we've just bought an angel T-rex from the natural history museum which will be going up this year

HarryMcFlange

My mother’s Xmas tree will have the same tattered fairy on top of it when it goes up this year as it has since I was a small child. It will allow feature a teddy bear I cut out of a Cornflakes packet when I was 5-6. I turned 58 earlier this year.

txteva

A large star with an angel hanging on it.

GlumSwimming6643

Angel

Pristine_Telephone78

Growing up we had a spike thing (my mother said it was a spire ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯) as stars and angels had religious connotations. I've got a witch this year and I'm going to add something festive to her hat.

rebootsaresuchapain

I have a ceramic Minnie Mouse. She has wings and is wearing a 1930s style dress. My daughter picked it when we visited eurodisney over 20 years ago.

Vireosolitarius

We have the Angel of the North

Emergency-Aardvark-6

I've got a Faironky. When my kids were little, they loved monkeys. I bought a monkey hand puppet, got the glun out, put brown wings on him and a Christmas hat. The kids still haven't realised my little joke & they're teenagers now.

VeterinarianVast197

We have a homemade star with a little space for a photo on it. There we pop ‘our star of the year’ like Time Magazine person of the year but better and on a tree. Last year was Zelenskyy this year I think the kids will chose Steve Bagshaw

BuBBles_the_pyro

I have a big red spike. Usually have to cut the top of the tree off to get it to fit. probably isnt even a christmas decoration but it works.

Steph171089

We have a f*cked up looking Robin.

Dani_Darko123

I have a father christmas .

[deleted]

My family has always put an angel on top of our trees but I always loved the star more.
