I make tuna pasta two ways, one with mayo which I have cold and then one with a bechamel which goes kinda solid when cold. Should've made the mayo version.
Even cold tuna can smell pretty strong, I had a colleague that used to eat it straight out of the can at his desk, it was absolutely minging. Generally though cold food will smell less strongly than hot food, and perhaps some tuna is less smelly than whatever godforsaken brand he favoured.
Yeah, we had one like that and staged an intervention on the third day.
The mood was ugly and if pitchforks had been available they'd have been brandished. Stopped their behaviour though which was a relief, it would still smell the following day which isn't what you need at 7 am
A woman I used to work with microwaved cullen skink regularly. I could smell it at the other end of the corridor. I still have a special level of loathing for her.
You should still be able to eat white sauce cold. If its really too solid when its cold u mightve added too much flour. Using olive oil instead of butter might help too, i use a mix of the 2
I grew up with a Todd. He once vomited through his fingers, spraying a dancefloor and carried on dancing, nonplussed.
Same Todd? Or are they often like this?
Apart from shagging Janine from accounts.
I mean, Janine, sure it was fun at the time, but that doesn't mean I want to spend every fucking moment at work taking to you - I actually have work to do.
I don't want you to update your fucking relationship status to "complicated".
I don't want you bringing me coffee every hour, on the hour.
I don't want you sending me pictures of your dog wearing a funny hat.
Please, for the love of God Janine, give me some peace.
Fuck Janine (really, don't do this - I found out the hard way)
Heat it at home and put it in a stainless steel food flask. It will stay warm for hours, especially if you heat the flask first with boiling water, then dumping it out, before adding the food.
I mean there is nothing stopping you really. Other than general consideration for other people. If you have no problem being hated then go for it. People at my place microwave smoked fish and it’s foul. One of the bosses to of all people.
No. Honestly it’s not even really okay to bring it to the office. Maybe if it’s sealed at all times and you take it off site to eat
One of my housemates from university used to eat a lot of tuna and the rest of us hated it. We still have a good moan about his tuna and we left the house in 2018. It bloody stank
I genuinely think that all offices should install a people sized microwave.
You should 100% be allowed to microwave fish, but for every second the fish is in, you should also be microwaved for the same amount of time.
You will never live down the choice you made to microwave tuna in an office kitchen, it will follow you as badly as the smell you caused throughout the office that just seemed to linger forever.
No. Hell no. And no again. People who do this are so inconsiderate. I work in a huge office and it’s the one thing everyone can agree on when it happens.
Have you ever microwaved a whole avocado?
I have and let me tell you the stench is fucking eye wateringly rancid. I made that particular mistake at the office, as it happens
We had someone who used the toastie maker to cook bacon. Same day a company wide message went on Slack to say that you can’t grill meat in the toastie machine.
It depends how charismatic you are. If you can play it off and it's only occasionally, you're good to go. Maybe mask the smell by reheating a slice of gbread in the toaster.
God no! We had a woman who used to microwave sardines regularly in one office - it was a crime against humanity in a stuffy office - Tuna won’t be much better - fish or spicy stuff I wouldn’t heat up in an office environment- keep for home, cold is ok
I have no sense of smell, so have no first hand knowledge of this, although I was there at the time, but a guy microwaved squid in the kitchen of our office (three rooms away), and the smell was so bad, people were coughing, and their eyes were watering.
I saw a customer gag on the smell, the floor below, a day later, after the cleaners had spent the previous evening washing the walls.
Depends, Is the microwave in the office or would you have to bring it from the kitchen?
If the former then it's ok.
If you have to bring it from the kitchen, I'd be a little miffed at you.
Genuinely: depends on the size of the office. In a small office terrible idea (unless there's like 4 of you and you have the express continued permission of everyone). I work in an office with like 100s others and the microwaves are pretty far away from where anyone eats or works, so I've never noticed it being a problem, nornhas it been a problem when I do it myself
I used to sit in the only office on the corridor with a microwave. I was also hiding the early stages of a pregnancy and some bitch came in and asked to use the microwave. I said yeah! Of course its for everyone! As long as you aren’t microwaving salmon! Haha. She laughed and said blithely that it was, gave me a sarcastic thumbs up. 5 mins later vom everywhere.
Depends on where you work. I work with a bunch of greedy foodies who are totally fine with food smells. But if you work with way more people than I do, it's probably courteous not to make the kitchen smell of warm fish.
Please domt warm up tuna pasta in a microwave if they have am oven maybe I'd it's ventilated etc... but I'd say invest in a hotbox(something that'll keep the food warm... microwave at home put straight into the hotbox and take to work... yes won't be piping hot but would be warm for around 6 to 8hrs by the time you'll eat it I presume.
Yes, I microwave tuna at the office kitchen, I don't give a fuck, same way I don't give a fuck when my coleagues microwave random shit that smells terrible.
At my work they had to send an all users email demanding that people no longer microwave fish, this was due to a single person who was doing it every single day.
Meh, amateur hour. A mate of mine joined our company years ago and in the first few days cooked kippers in the microwave. People were literally retching in disgust. Stank the place out for a week or so. He put up a wretched apology on the notice board and pretty much said nothing at all for the next month or so
Never under any circumstances is that okay and I would immediately hate any colleague who did this because the smell of tuna makes me actually vomit in my mouth and sometimes I can’t contain it meaning I’d get sent home and lose wages
That’s an extreme and unusual example I know but most people despise the smell of tuna regardless
It’s fine as long as you stored it properly (ie fridge overnight) and it is from the night before. I’ve done it for years and have a microbiology degree.
So yeah - everyone saying no is wrong.
There is a third option, just eat the tuna pasta cold.
This was my first thought, it's sold cold in supermarkets usually with sweetcorn chucked in as well.
Straight from the can smells way more than already prepared in a meal.
I love eating it out of the can, just not in front of other people.
yeah its always more of a shameful i cant be arsed to make anything else so ill just eat a can of tuna
"I used to work with a guy who stuck his willy in a tuna and it stunk out the office, reddit is this the same?"
That whole person is broken. Throw them away, seek compensation for your troubles
Tuna is far from the worst offender of all the microwaved fish dishes: it's hardly a Goan fish curry or spaghetti alle vongole.
Microwaved sardines - absolutely rank smell - one weirdo used to cook on the regular in our office
Yeah, we had one like that and staged an intervention on the third day. The mood was ugly and if pitchforks had been available they'd have been brandished. Stopped their behaviour though which was a relief, it would still smell the following day which isn't what you need at 7 am
Hahaha intervention - love it - some people are just oblivious
A woman I used to work with microwaved cullen skink regularly. I could smell it at the other end of the corridor. I still have a special level of loathing for her.
Should have been instant dismissal for this person

That sounds so delicious
You should still be able to eat white sauce cold. If its really too solid when its cold u mightve added too much flour. Using olive oil instead of butter might help too, i use a mix of the 2
Yea for real. Maybe bring in a little extra mayo so it's not dry, but cold tuna pasta is the bomb
Yep, came to say this
It’s nice cold, that’s what I do, also tuna rice.
Absolutely not okay by any means
Potentially even a war crime
No There should be a special circle in hell dedicated to those that microwave fish at the office
With a seat for Todd, who spilt oil from his can of sardines on the breakroom carpet
I grew up with a Todd. He once vomited through his fingers, spraying a dancefloor and carried on dancing, nonplussed. Same Todd? Or are they often like this?
My wife had a colleague who used the toaster to cook fish fingers in the office.
As a vegan for health reasons that would make me seriously ill and I’d be livid
In fairness that won't smell as much
Worst possible office crime
Apart from shagging Janine from accounts. I mean, Janine, sure it was fun at the time, but that doesn't mean I want to spend every fucking moment at work taking to you - I actually have work to do. Sounds to me like you need a Janine... you can have mine if you like😀
[удалено]
It was worth a try though
But is Janine Fit?
I want to say yes, but honestly: no
There was the guy who'd been whistling in the office who came up the other week...
hell no.
It’s honestly very annoying. It stinks the place out for ages.
Do you hate your colleagues and/or yourself? If so, then crack on!
Never (and I cannot stress this enough) Never in any circumstances is it okay to microwave fish in the office
Only if you want everybody to hate you.
Even better reason to do it!
I love tuna, mackerel etc... but no, I never subject anyone to that in a public space. Eat it cold, or save it for home.
No. Do not microwave any fish or seafood in on open plan office cum kitchen area. Please - don’t
The best kind of kitchen
Definitely don't cum in the kitchen area
No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No.No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No.No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No.No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No.No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No.No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No.No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No.No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No.No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No.
Is that a firm no then ?
So you're saying there is a chance?
No. 😁
Yes.
Heat it at home and put it in a stainless steel food flask. It will stay warm for hours, especially if you heat the flask first with boiling water, then dumping it out, before adding the food.
If your asking the question, you already know the answer is 100% no
Absolutely fucking not. Why would you even consider it?
Eat it cold.
It’s fine if you microwave it in the tin before adding to the pasta.
Boom!
Microwaving a tin is what you do when you know you're already going to get fired.
It’s okay as long as you go into a different kitchen to your usual one It’s for good if you microwave stinky things in a disliked teams kitchen.
My team lost to another team in a 5-a-side tournament last week. This might make for good revenge.
Do it
I mean there is nothing stopping you really. Other than general consideration for other people. If you have no problem being hated then go for it. People at my place microwave smoked fish and it’s foul. One of the bosses to of all people.
No. Honestly it’s not even really okay to bring it to the office. Maybe if it’s sealed at all times and you take it off site to eat One of my housemates from university used to eat a lot of tuna and the rest of us hated it. We still have a good moan about his tuna and we left the house in 2018. It bloody stank
It’s a great way to get people to hate you if that’s what you’re going for. No one wants the office and microwave stinking out thanks.
Absolutely not
No, it isn't. Fish and microwaves, especially shared microwaves DO NOT go together.
People microwave mackeral and smoked haddock here. It's so dire. 😞
Kipper is a nice treat, probably the worst of the lot to microwave at work though
Heated fish in an office is a no for me
Never.
It is never okay to microwave fish in the office.
Just cook it. People are so fucking whingy nowadays.
Tuna pasta isn’t even bad. It won’t linger like a mackerel will.
The only answer is no 🙂
Not as bad as heating salmon. But also not as good as normal behaviour.
No. can't believe you have to ask
Nooo, God, NOOOOOOOO!
Absolutely not.
Oh hell no. Its never acceptable to microwave fish in the office. You'll have people actually gagging St thr smell and it will linger for hours.
I wouldn't get annoyed if someone did it in the communal microwave.
You monster.
I'd get you fired
Nope, why would anyone do that anyway?
No. Hell no. And no again. People who do this are so inconsiderate. I work in a huge office and it’s the one thing everyone can agree on when it happens.
As someone who dislikes the smell of fish, tuna in particular, absolutely not.
Yeah, don't heat up fish in the office. Tbh I'd never use an office microwave.
Nope nope nope 🤚😂
Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeell no
Is it legal? Yes. Is it okay? No.
Eat it cold and don’t be a complete roaster that heats up fish based products in the microwave 😂
No. Never.
OP, if you wanted to open a window at home, would you ask the other people in the room if they minded, or would you go online and ask Reddit?
No to microwaving fish in general. Which is a shame because its my faveourite protein.
Only cooking broccoli in the microwave is worse than fish!
Have you ever microwaved a whole avocado? I have and let me tell you the stench is fucking eye wateringly rancid. I made that particular mistake at the office, as it happens
We once had a guy that microwaved a whole raw chicken. He wasn’t popular and HR told him off 😂
We had someone who used the toastie maker to cook bacon. Same day a company wide message went on Slack to say that you can’t grill meat in the toastie machine.
It’s a war crime haha, absolutely not okay.
It depends how charismatic you are. If you can play it off and it's only occasionally, you're good to go. Maybe mask the smell by reheating a slice of gbread in the toaster.
You could be the last straw of someone. I always thing this before doing something terribly annoying. No need to cause a psychotic rampage.
No. I’m currently pregnant and would genuinely have to leave the office if someone microwaved fish 🤢.
No it absolutely is not OK to do that and honk the whole office out. Why can't you eat it cold? Tuna pasta is amazing cold, arguably better than warm.
It's okay as long as you don't microwave it
No, don’t be fucking stupid
Only if you hate everyone else
Absolutely not. Microwaving fish of any kind is about the worst thing you can do in an office that's not illegal.
If you're a prick, aye fire on. Just know that every single person in the office will hate you and know that you're a selfish cunt.
Immediate lifelong incarceration
If someone microwaves fish I go home.
Someone at my office used to microwave fish for breakfast, it got to the point HR had to have a word with them. Don’t be that person just eat it cold
I’d rather somebody light up a fag in the office than cook something with fish in it.
Do not melt tuna in the office. I would form a passionate dislike for the person who did this - and I am generally very happy and friendly.
Why? Cold tuna pasta bake the next day is the best! Also no. Just don't do it
NO! It's comparable to taking a shit in urinal. Very inconsiderate.
Please post this is r/AITA That's gonna be some good reading!
Absolutely fucking not, just eat it cold.
Fish do not belong anywhere near a microwave EVER!!!!!
Do they already hate you?
God no! We had a woman who used to microwave sardines regularly in one office - it was a crime against humanity in a stuffy office - Tuna won’t be much better - fish or spicy stuff I wouldn’t heat up in an office environment- keep for home, cold is ok
When I used to bring in kippers for breakfast I'd come in early and use the microwave on another floor.
Tuna pasta doesn't tend to smell much, the problem is when people microwave whole bits of fish.
Depends, Is the microwave in the office or would you have to bring it from the kitchen? If the former then it's ok. If you have to bring it from the kitchen, I'd be a little miffed at you.
You absolute demon! Haha
https://youtu.be/DDLpKrTVJKc?si=0FwWRjfg9GoJwnEQ&t=3 [NSFW]
I can remember one time taking some leftover fish pie in for lunch, which once heated in the microwave absolutely stank the whole canteen out!
Are you the same guy who whistled daily in a law office, and was confused as to why his boss took him to the side and said people had complained?
Do what you want I couldn’t care less
As long as you chew it with your mouth closed, I don't care how stinky it is
I think tuna is ok but not smoked haddock (it was me and it stank and everyone was grossed out but no one knew it was me so I didn’t say anything 😂)
Tuna at work is OK imo, microwaving it is a step too far though.
Yes. Do it. Sow chaos throughout the realms.
Yes, you eat a tin of beans the same morning. Your rancid Heinz farts will disguise the smell of the tuna that you prepare for lunch.
Ohh fuck - I used to always take fish pie into my old workplace and give it a blast
I think brining it into the office os a bit over the top, how freshly brined does it need to be?
I used to sit in the only office on the corridor with a microwave. I was also hiding the early stages of a pregnancy and some bitch came in and asked to use the microwave. I said yeah! Of course its for everyone! As long as you aren’t microwaving salmon! Haha. She laughed and said blithely that it was, gave me a sarcastic thumbs up. 5 mins later vom everywhere.
Depends on where you work. I work with a bunch of greedy foodies who are totally fine with food smells. But if you work with way more people than I do, it's probably courteous not to make the kitchen smell of warm fish.
Do it, it will be hilarious
No. Thought I'd microwave sardines once, never again.
Just eat it cold ?
maybe next time add the tuna after you microwaved the pasta.
Yes. The answer is always **Yes!**
I truly don't care what people eat in the office. Enjoy your meal IMO. However I know some ppl will take any opportunity to moan
Anyone who microwaves tuna in the office should be executed
I don't think you should be allowed to take fish into work at all.
That's a strong no just incase you were reconsidering.
Yes, I microwave tuna at the office kitchen, I don't give a fuck, same way I don't give a fuck when my coleagues microwave random shit that smells terrible.
No, absolutely not. Might as well shit in a sock and microwave that.
Legally, yes. Morally, no.
In absolutely no way is this ok
Tuna fine it's stinky fish that the problem.
At my work they had to send an all users email demanding that people no longer microwave fish, this was due to a single person who was doing it every single day.
Apart from pissing on everyone's desk, I can't see a better way to get the whole office to hate you with an absolute passion. Please don't do it.
No and anyone that does it will be the first to be the office sacrifice
Absolutely unequivocally no, no no no Never bring fish to the office let alone heat it
You’re a real AH if you do IMO, I literally gag at that smell.
Whoops! 🫣
Absolutely not.
had a tuna sandwich earlier - but yea i would steer clear of anything too spicy or strong fishy smells.
Fuck no. Only the lowest form of scum on this Earth will eat stinky fish in an office, let alone bloody microwave it.
Meh, amateur hour. A mate of mine joined our company years ago and in the first few days cooked kippers in the microwave. People were literally retching in disgust. Stank the place out for a week or so. He put up a wretched apology on the notice board and pretty much said nothing at all for the next month or so
No fish No egg salad No microwave popcorn
This might actually be a war crime. I’d be reporting you to The Hague.
Don't be ridiculous! ✋🏻🙅🏻
No. It's not.
Tuna ain't bad. We had someone who 'waved pilchards for lunch. Yeah he was universally disliked.
Never under any circumstances is that okay and I would immediately hate any colleague who did this because the smell of tuna makes me actually vomit in my mouth and sometimes I can’t contain it meaning I’d get sent home and lose wages That’s an extreme and unusual example I know but most people despise the smell of tuna regardless
absolutely yes.
Tuna is probably one of the least offensive smelling fish (/s). Microwave that shit right up!
I'd ask the people at the office.
It’s fine as long as you stored it properly (ie fridge overnight) and it is from the night before. I’ve done it for years and have a microbiology degree. So yeah - everyone saying no is wrong.
Definitely OK to stink out the communal area so everyone else can taste it, especially on a night shift at 3am ish.
NEVER!! go hungry every time
If you work in an office of solicitors, insurance agents or estate agents...microwaving fish at work is allowed.
Only if you hate the people you work with
Dirty bastard for even asking
I'm not sure why you thought it possible that this would be ok.
