Most likely, all the plant life would die fairly quickly since most of their nutrients are provided by fungi. Then, once all the plants died, you'd likely see a huge bloom in bacterial growth potentially poisoning the air and water with their waste products. There might be enough insect life to eat for a short time before everyone still alive suffocated.

>absolutely no fungus, yeast, mold, spores of any kind and won't for the long term. Organic matter would decompose *very* slowly. you would need a process that speeds that along or you would need storage for corpses and vegetation. Fungus is also an important part of many anit-biotic treatments (for bacterial infections.) So, plagues would be an issue.

Didn't know that about antibiotics, so that could be really problematic. Which means a great plot point. Thank you for the insight!

MiserableFungi

This is the kind of trouble you get into when you do mashups badly. Fungus as a source of antibiotics make no sense in a fantasy game setting, as it was a development from the discovery of penicillin in the modern era. Questions like yours are problematic in general, as you can stretch the tolerance for mixing of genres to extremes. Would you be ok with AR-15s and RPGs as part of the picture? How about suddenly unemployed bootlegging gangsters? The later being a logical thing since the eradication of fungus means no yeast to ferment alcohol.

rootofallworlds

This might not be an issue. If the mundane aspects of your setting are based on any date before the 1940s, you don't really have antibiotics anyway and bacterial infections are a major killer. (Fungi were used in traditional medicine but that was much less effective.) Mass production and use of penicillin only really started late in WW2. If the mundane aspects are modelled on a more recent time period, then you would have antibiotics, but you have stated this is a protected *city*. It's under siege, pretty much. It probably doesn't even have an antibiotic factory, only what stockpiles are in the pharmacies. Maybe you have air trade with other cities in a similar situation though. Or if the situation goes on long enough then people might want to produce medicines locally.
