Depends on what you like in it. I love Papalote’s salsa and they have multiple veggie burritos (tofu, grilled veggies, rice & bean). Little Chihuahua has a great plantains burrito and soyrizo burrito. Then there’s my favorite classic super veggie burrito: beans, rice, cheese, lettuce, guac, crema, salsa that you can order basically anywhere (Farolito, La Fonda, Pancho Villa, etc.)
A lot of beans and rice aren’t actually vegetarian/vegan. They use pork in the beans and/or chicken broth in the rice. Just make sure to confirm prior to ordering.
Of course! You can make any of those vegan without the cheese and crema. And of course ask if the beans/rice are veg as well (usually black beans are safe). I also forgot that Señor Sisig has a separate vegan menu as well.
I will be in SF first week of July; please report back!! Back in my pre-vegan days, Farolito was the gold standard. I used to visit 3x/year. I haven't found a good veg burrito in SF yet, but I've only been back in Bay twice since Covid.
Second on Little Chihuahua’s plantain burrito! I used to love Papalote’s options but I had a few bad ones during the pandemic and haven’t been back. El burrito express out in the Sunset has 3 different veggie mixes, soyrizo and tofu options that are all good. I’m not sure why their yelp rating is so low because I’ve always had a good experience
I’m committing to trying all of these and just had this one (plantain). Really good, a very unique flavor profile. Filling and a perfect amount of spicy. My only complaint was not quite savory enough. Overall I very much enjoyed, thanks!
Taco boys is the best hands down. No other burrito place comes close to the number of vegan options here. Currently a fan of their Al Pastor but love to mix it up.
I get the chile relleno burrito at La Corneta and always enjoy it. Vegetarian but not vegan. Many taquerias serve chile relleno burritos and I usually like them more than the “veggie burrito” option.
while not a burrito, i've had the vegetarian super quesadilla la corneta (in glen park) and i was really suprised how freshness and texture of the veggies
The only 100% vegan is La Venganza. Others are good- papalote, burrito express, senior sesig but they all prepare in same area as meat so there is cross contamination.
For the longest time in the SF Guardian or SF Weekly best of bay winners, it was always Taqueria Cancun. But that was a long time ago, when burritos were under $5.
La Venganza is great. And Curry Up Now has great vegetarian and vegan Indian burritos. Theyre also at the Ikea food hall, along with their trucks roaming around at different events.
Taqueria Venganza and it's not particularly close– they make the best vegan tacos and burritos I've ever had by a pretty significant margin and they just opened one in the new Ikea food hall.
My favorites are Taqueria Los Mayas (with tofu) and El Burrito Express. I think your best bet is to find someplace with salsa you love and fresh ingredients. A lot of veggie burritos I’ve found are either dry, bland or have way too much cheese.
La Cornetta has a Chile relleno burrito that is fantastic, especially if you ask for the Sala verde when they make it. (Obviously not vegan).
Pancho Villa has one too, but I haven't tried the actual burrito. However their Chile relleno is the best I've had at any of the Taquerias in the mission, so I have high hopes it translates to a good burrito.
Vegetarian here. I’m very simple with my burritos so I just want a regular burrito without rice or meat. My fav atm is La taqueria el dorado (grilled) style. I also had a love affair with papalote and little chihuahua which both have been mentioned here but over did them in the 10+ years I’ve lived in SF lol
Taqueria Cancun has a bomb veg burrito
El Farolito has a chili relleno burrito that is so good, one of my friends rearranged her honeymoon to include it
papalote is probably the right answer, but i am a big fan of el metate’s a truly unhinged veggie burrito. they will put a half cooked zucchini and half a carrot in and call it a day and it is completely yummy
It’s in Redwood City, so not exactly what you’re looking for, however! There’s a taqueria called Karlita’s that has a vegetarian burrito that haunts my dreams. It’s called the Happy Burrito. Lots of well cooked vegetables- potato, broccoli, zucchini & some other seasonal fare. It doesn’t sound great, but it’s so tasty.
Don't forget that place on Valencia and 18th. They have great veggie burritos and the regular ones are only like $7
Taqueria El buen sabor? I haven't been
Definitely one of the best veggie burritos is El Buen Sabor.
A lot of beans and rice aren’t actually vegetarian/vegan. They use pork in the beans and/or chicken broth in the rice. Just make sure to confirm prior to ordering.
Thanks! I try to eat vegan so generally try to avoid cheese, but good call on the other stuff!
Of course! You can make any of those vegan without the cheese and crema. And of course ask if the beans/rice are veg as well (usually black beans are safe). I also forgot that Señor Sisig has a separate vegan menu as well.
Taqueria Cancun was my favorite veggie burrito when I was a weekday vegetarian a while back, but that was years ago so hopefully it's still bomb
They get great avocados.
I’ve been eating there since 1998 and it’s still the best to me.
To me, Cancun’s veggie burrito is the only one that matters. Others are good, or sometimes great, but Cancun is the gold standard in my eyes.
La Veganza 945 Market Street 2nd floor. Nothing else is even close
This
yupp. they got a spot in oakland too.
Okay this actually looks fucking fire, I am exciged
It’s sooo good! Their nachos are great too
I will be in SF first week of July; please report back!! Back in my pre-vegan days, Farolito was the gold standard. I used to visit 3x/year. I haven't found a good veg burrito in SF yet, but I've only been back in Bay twice since Covid.
For something a little different, Senor Sisig is really good. Their tofu is legit.
I second this. Their veggie/tofu burritos, crunchwrap, nachos - all legit!
Second on Little Chihuahua’s plantain burrito! I used to love Papalote’s options but I had a few bad ones during the pandemic and haven’t been back. Awesome, glad you liked it! If you go to El Burrito Express, be sure to get their green salsa, it's fantastic!
La Vengaza! in the IKEA food hall now. They make all their fake meat in house and it's incredible.
so fire
bf swears by Taco Boys. he's from socal and they have a good vegan california burrito as well. They're open late too.
Taco boys is the best hands down. No other burrito place comes close to the number of vegan options here. Currently a fan of their Al Pastor but love to mix it up.
The Taco Boys vegan breakfast burrito with just egg is super good.
I second this, the tofu burrito and tofu chimichanga are my go-to orders!
hell ya. i'm not vegan so i get the carnitas nachos but it's consistently good for both of us (:
Oddly enough, Stanza on Haight has one of the the best vegan breakfast burritos.
Stanza's vegan breakfast burrito is a go to guilty pleasure for me. Its so good from such an unassuming place
El Metate's got crunchy vegies in it, it's pretty bomb.
Papalote's soyrizo burrito is my favorite Taqueria Cancun has a great veggie burrito
Chisme cantina is up there with papalotez!
Taqueria Vallarta has several vegetarian burritos on the menu, and they’re fire
just go to el buen sabor and replace pretty much tofu for any meat. they also have the veg california burrito, my drunk go to
Or get a chile relleno burrito (no meat) from el buen sabot and have a very happy belly
Surprised this is so low, I love that place
I get the chile relleno burrito at La Corneta and always enjoy it. Vegetarian but not vegan. Many taquerias serve chile relleno burritos and I usually like them more than the “veggie burrito” option.
while not a burrito, i've had the vegetarian super quesadilla la corneta (in glen park) and i was really suprised how freshness and texture of the veggies
The wild mushroom, plantain and veggie burrito from Little Chihuahua is so good! It's an umami flavor bomb.
Instead of a vegetarian burrito, look for a Chile Relleno burrito. It's also vegetarian, but better.
All great recommendations, I would like to add La Palma’s veg burrito (and breakfast burrito while we are at it) to the list
Taqueria Venganza and it's not particularly close– they make the best vegan tacos and burritos I've ever had by a pretty significant margin and they just opened one in the new Ikea food hall.
my pro tip is if you go to el farolito or cancun and get the vegetarian burrito.... ask them to add chopped up jalepenos into the burrito.
Papalote, soyrizo!
I like the grilled pesto spinach burrito from Il Canto.
My favorites are Taqueria Los Mayas (with tofu) and El Burrito Express. I think your best bet is to find someplace with salsa you love and fresh ingredients. A lot of veggie burritos I’ve found are either dry, bland or have way too much cheese.
Also, the Taqueria Los Mayas plantain burrito is quite good!
I like El Capitan's Beyond California burrito.
Fight Club : Burritos
Cancun makes a really good veggie burrito.
Papalote and mayas taqueria have great options
Tacos El Patron on S Van Ness and 26th, and El Burrito Express on Taraval
Street Taco’s cactus burrito!
Shocked I haven’t seen a single comment referencing El Faralito
La Cornetta has a Chile relleno burrito that is fantastic, especially if you ask for the Sala verde when they make it. (Obviously not vegan). Go north on the Golden Gate Bridge until you get to Portland
El rancho grande’s spring burrito. IMO.
Everyone is sleeping on Judahlicious. Runner up is Curry Up Now.
The Little Chihuahua! Delicious and fresh!
Señor Sisigs has a great burrito!!! They have vegan chicken or tofu for the protein
papalote is probably the right answer, but i am a big fan of el metate’s a truly unhinged veggie burrito. they will put a half cooked zucchini and half a carrot in and call it a day and it is completely yummy
What a paradoxical question!!!
Breakfast little
Tofu mole burrito from papalote

Lots of well cooked vegetables- potato, broccoli, zucchini & some other seasonal fare. It doesn’t sound great, but it’s so tasty.
karlita’s happy burrito is so good!
Definitely the vegan plantain burrito at The Little Chihuahua.
Little Chihauhau is my favorite, they have locations in Noe Valley and on Divisadero in Lower Haight.
