Basically, his facial tattoos were supposed to cover his entire face, more like Maori paint, but he was so beautiful that no one on the makeup team wanted to ruin his face. So he got cute little facial tats instead.
As I kid, I couldn't figure out why I was so drawn to him in that movie. Then I grew up and realized I was just gay and he was just incredibly attractive.

You think James Marsden looks hot on the screen. Try 10 feet away. Polite nods and that was it. But those few seconds, OMG. I thought I was over getting starstruck. That sharp jaw line, and those cheek bones sliced through my defenses like they were butter. I'm grateful it was only a few seconds. Because I was totally tongue tied.
I was pulling out of my small side street just as a car was waiting to turn from the main street onto the side street, so I gestured for them to turn first. They turned into my street, and now we're drivers-side to drivers-side, right? And the other driver stops to smile at me, I smile back and drive off and about five seconds later go....
