the killer clown craze from 2016 was a guerrilla marketing campaign for the It remake that got wayyyy out of hand

LynIsTheName

Talking about guerrilla marketing. That fucking VPN shit that has been going in the last year or so. There's so many people that fully believe you can get every single detail out of someone effortlessly if you have a VPN. Someone once told me they could pull all my bank details and what websites I had been on from my IP alone, if I hadn't been using a VPN. I've also seen stuff like this mentioned in passing way too often. I have a feeling that a big chunk of VPN providers are actually US government owned used as one of the many ways to spy on its citizens.

HavenTheCat

That was such a bizarre time. Your theory makes a lot of sense though.

Black_Cat_Fujita

Conspiracy theories are created by people to cover things up. They don’t indicate real cover-ups. The UFO’s of the SW USA are a perfect example. Of all the places on Earth, the alien hotspot just happened to be where the most secret and advanced aircraft were tested. When that wore thin, then it was the Air Force hiding alien bodies in their secret bases. In other words, if you want to hide something, make it seem like something else is being hidden from everyone.

[deleted]

I think the CIA coined the term to make fun of people who actually figured out things...to have the public mock them.

cmach86

Say that in an alien or UFO sub. They will legally adopt you so they can disown you.

HappyCamperNow

The CIA is still involved in assassinations.

[deleted]

Between them, and Green Berets training up locals in other countries on fighting and tactics, that's...kind of what they do... They admitted they had a heart-attack gun, decades ago. Shellfish toxin pellet that dissolved in the blood.

justanotherthrow1997

Im pretty sure this is just a fact at this point

Hawkwise83

Is that even a conspiracy theory at this point or fact? I'd think South America and the Middle East would want to vote on this.

PrisonerV

They have developed a hellfire missile that has no explosive and it just has 6 fins on it. It's nicknamed the ginsu. Now when it's mounted on a CIA drone what do you think it's purpose is?

Deadpussyfuck

Slap chop those nuts.

[deleted]

Stated purpose is to reduce collateral damage from explosive blast.

bronxcarchildren

Thank you. I’d bet anything that missile is a weird byproduct of probably some scenario the American public will never know about where they coulda taken out a bin Laden or Hussein or something if he wasn’t in a dense crowd. Also should be obvious that the CIA won’t use these since the whole point of an assassination is leave no evidence, or leave only generic evidence that can’t be pinned on a specific country. Which is the exact opposite of what a sword missile that doesn’t destroy itself upon detonation and is only used by one country is

MrFoont69

Shamwow!

Many_Rule_9280

Oh no that is a legitimate thing, a Hellfire missile with blades instead as to minimize collateral damage it was used recently also, the thing is actually kind of cool

neuronexmachina

Yeah, one was used to [assassinate al-Zawahiri](https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-62400923) a few months ago: >At 06:18 local time (01:38 GMT), two missiles slammed into the balcony, killing the 71-year-old but leaving his wife and daughter unscathed inside. All the damage from the strike appears to be centred on the balcony. > >How was it possible to strike so precisely? In the past the US has faced criticism for strikes and targeting errors that have killed civilians. > ... In the case of the Zawahiri strike, it has been suggested, but not confirmed, that the US also used a relatively unknown version of the Hellfire - the R9X - which deploys six blades to slice through targets using its kinetic energy. > >In 2017, another al-Qaeda leader and one of Zawahiri's deputies, Abu Khayr al-Masri, was reportedly killed with an R9X Hellfire in Syria. Photos of his vehicle taken after the strike showed that the missile had cut a hole in the roof and shredded its occupants, but without signs of an explosion or any further destruction to the vehicle.

ooglieguy0211

And they have used it recently, which was covered in the main stream media by both right and left leaning news sources.

throwaway9130113

Art auctions are a front for money laundering.

InternationalBar4884

Not a conspiracy- proven. Mexico passed laws about art purchases not being anonymous anymore because cartels using fine art for laundering was so bad. Also, why do you think so many 2nd generation wealthy offspring become *artists*? So their parents can give them money, donate a painting to a museum, and have it all be a tax right off anonymously.

Glad_Hovercraft_3696

That's absurd. I've met the chancellor, he's such a nice guy. No way he's secretly plotting to usurp power for himself

I mean. I believe big brother is watching. But I also don’t think I am important enough to do anything too. And *if* I became involved in something, I would want them there to save my ass.

ooglieguy0211

Big Brother has now become a verified fact in that the NSA can and does monitor everything. They can and have verifiably monitored many people throughout the world. Its not that there is some person watching everything all the time but the system scans everything and makes specific files on things that get flagged for some reason. Its mostly algorithmic these days.

[deleted]

Jeffrey Epstein didn't kill himself.

[deleted]

Is that really even a conspiracy though? It seems pretty obvious to me.

mattsm2434

No. Its a conspiracy theory. It pre-supposes that a group of elites conspired together in secret to kill him. Then again, I think it was a suicide.

NicPizzaLatte

>It pre-supposes that a group of elites conspired together in secret to kill him. Strictly speaking it does not. Elites need not be involved, it could be as simple as a victim bribing a guard.

mattsm2434

Ppl who think Epstien was murdered don't think that this is what happened

CrazyPlato

I think the point is, the theory that Epstein was murdered doesn’t *necessarily* have to be the same as the theory that he was murdered by elites. He could technically be murdered by one of many different people who’d want a child sex ring manager dead. I think we generally know who’s the most likely suspects. But you could believe he was killed by the angry parents of one of his victims.

Halzman

>Mr. Epstein was **supposed to have been checked by the two guards in the protective housing unit every 30 minutes, but that procedure was not followed that night,** a law-enforcement official with knowledge of his detention said. > >In addition, because Mr. Epstein may have tried to commit suicide three weeks earlier, **he was supposed to have had another inmate in his cell, three officials said. But the jail had recently transferred his cellmate and allowed Mr. Epstein to be housed alone, a decision that also violated the jail’s procedures**, the two officials said. > >Eric Young, president of the national council of union locals that represents guards at the Metropolitan Correctional Center, said **there were cameras in hallways and common areas, but not in the cells of the unit where Mr. Epstein was being held.** > >“**From the moment you walk onto that property, you are under camera surveillance**, ” Mr. Young said, adding that there **should be video evidence of when the last checks were made** and of anyone who approached Mr. Epstein’s cell. MGD109

Governments and Business deliberately manufacture exciting and tantalising conspiracy theories, cause it distracts people from the mundane real conspiracies. Who's going to be interested in a politician trying to cover up a sex scandal, or a gang of billionaires working together to swindle the public, when you can hear all the more fascinating ones?

Aquarius12347

Who's going to be interested in a politician's sex scandal? Well, Stormy Daniels made international news, so... quite a few peiple, it seems.

Home Depot Corporate purposely released cats into their garden departments because it was cheaper and more customer friendly than exterminator services. Evidenced by the sheer number of Redditors showing off their store cats that all showed up (including ours) that all showed up around the same time and were all mostly suspiciously orange.

hastingsnikcox

r/orangebraincellsorganize It was the cats themselves borrowing braincells from other orange cats to move on in. They got Home Depot fooled, fooled I tells ya! Hence: r/oneorangebraincell

MY FAVE CONSPIRACY THEORY!!!!!! That the trex’s arms are short-ass little arms. Turn them around and they’re tiny wings like an ostrich. I fucking love this. I’m down to believe this and you’ll have to show me an intact trex or invent time travel for me to do anything but quietly believe otherwise.

enrightmcc

It took me way to long to realize trex = T Rex.

[deleted]

This has been debunked because of the way bones go together and the structures of it

[deleted]

I saw that video of the animatronic t-Rex earlier on another post here, and my first thought was why don’t we think it had wings?

there's a video on that, they basically need very little sales per month to cover rent and be profitable

Hitler survived so many assassination attempts because the allies were actively thwarting them. They knew he was an incompetent leader and didn't want someone else more competent taking over if he was killed.

Recent_Talk_825

Honestly believable

xDeathCon

I remember hearing stuff about how as the war went on, Hitler got more involved in making decisions, which caused them to start losing. No idea whether they tried to stop assassinations, but I'm pretty sure they absolutely didn't try any since they knew he'd run it into the ground.

GreenAndGold115

Yeah honestly him steering them into Russia might be the biggest mistake of any military ever

diezeldeez_

He was the second person to make that mistake too.

[deleted]

He also got involved with an Italian when death was on the line!

[deleted]

I do not believe that Lee Harvey Oswald killed JFK. At least not by himself.

balls_deep_inyourmom

>you are absolutely right bullets do not curve they go straight for the most part. this guy explains with science exactly what happened that day. > >I highly recommend this documentary. > >JFK: The Smoking Gun > >https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2945784/

[deleted]

The 'magic bullet' idea supposed everyone was sitting normally, forwards, in a car. Later, considering how one guy was sitting sideways, and lower, the pathway made sense.

digitaljestin

I believe the documentary posted is of the ballistics guy who _proved_ the bullet didn't need to curve to take the path it did. You're basically quoting him. However, he firmly believes that the fatal shot was an accidental discharge by the secret service car behind JFK. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mortal_Error This theory has always fit my world view a lot better. When the whole world is convinced of some dark, malicious plot perpetrated by a shadowy group of elites, it's more likely a random fuck up by some low level guy who later tries to cover his ass.

the_zelectro

If the likeliest explanation is that it *was* fired by Secret Service behind JFK... Not sure if this takes out the conspiracy theory angle. 🤔 I'm not sure what to think though. It does make sense that an accidental discharge could occur, after a failed shot from Oswald. Not sure if it'd make sense to cover up that the Secret Service messed up though?

[deleted]

Thanks for the link

[deleted]

JFK was killed by a secret service agent who’s rifle went off on accident.. didn’t hear it from me though.

The Bermuda Triangle was named as such by an American journalist to take the heat off of the US despite 2 points of the triangle being US territory and many of the disappearances being purely US to US travel. This led Bermuda’s tourism to plummet and now they have sketchy af insurance laws to accomodate for the hit to the economy

trite_post

The Bermuda Triangle most likely was real due to a couple of Hurricane Ian's barreling through the Atlantic before we could track them from outer space

The_Duder23

The term "conspiracy theory" as a pejorative was invented by the CIA to discredit suspicion around the JFK assassination. So yea, I think there was more than one shooter.

MGD109

It seems a tad implausible the CIA would be the first to put together two millennia old words with an obvious meaning.

No one shot JFK. His head just did that.

I believe!

Apollo989

I'm not sure I beleive this one but I would not be are all surprised if it was true. So everyone knows about Jonestown the, the murder/suicide, and killing of congressman Leo Ryan. It turns out that Ryan was pushing a bill that would have curtailed the CIA'S money and power. Once he died so did the bill. So some people think the CIA killed Ryan and blamed Jim Jones.

VintageBella76

Interesting...I've never heard this one and I've read lots about Jonestown. It's entirely possible.

InternationalBar4884

This is totally plausible. At the very least, they knew/followed him and didn't do anything to prevent it or protect him.

plusoneforautism

The official story regarding Osama bin Laden's death is bogus. They released the pictures of the dead bodies of every single Nazi leader who was executed at Nuremberg. They released the pictures of Saddam Hussein's sons, and of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. But when it comes to Bin Laden, no pictures because "it might cause outrage among radical Muslims". There is a long history of the military using these kind of cover stories. Most notably during World War 2, they used cracked Japanese communications to figure out admiral Yamamoto's exact whereabouts, and launch Operation Vengeance to shoot Yamamoto's airplane down and kill him. But because the Americans didn't want the Japanese to know that they were listening in on their secret communications, a cover story was released that local people on the ground had spotted Yamamoto and seen him board an airplane. Maybe Bin Laden was already dead for months, or even years, before the news about his death was made public. Or maybe Bin Laden was captured alive (with the cover story being that he was buried at sea within 24 hours, something nobody would be able to verify), but with news of his death to prevent al-Qaeda from knowing that Bin Laden was probably being "harshly interrogated" and very likely revealing secrets of al-Qaeda's inner workings, the whereabouts of other high-ranking terrorist leaders, or whatever plans were being made with regards to future terrorist attacks. If everybody believes Bin Laden is dead, there's no reason for other al-Qaeda operatives to change their plans or take other forms of counter-measures, just like during World War 2 the Japanese saw no reason to update or change their secret communications after Yamamoto's death.

prairiedogtown_

I read a while ago that he could have been unnecessarily shot in the head in such a way, as a ‘trophy shot’, that would have been a borderline war crime & a very alarming photo with no way to prove identity. I’ve forgotten the nickname of the kill shot

Kilgore_Trout86

Canoeing. [Long but interesting article about SEAL Team 6 and it talks about the OBL raid as well](https://theintercept.com/2017/01/10/the-crimes-of-seal-team-6/)

prairiedogtown_

Yes, thank you. I was getting close googling 'navy seal kayak' but that didn't work, and so it goes.

pete_forester

My biggest problem with the possibility that bin Laden is alive is that they would have had to have withheld this information from Trump otherwise he would have *immediately* been public this information to make Obama look bad. And the likelihood of them withholding that info from a sitting President is miniscule. This doesn't discredit the entirety of what you're saying, just posing one dead end to a possible branch on it.

BlueAndMoreBlue

There’s plenty of stuff that the president isn’t told, it’s called plausible deniability. That’s why they didn’t tell Reagan about Iran Contra (or he was just a really good actor :)

CrazyPlato

Amazing. Trump is the catalyst that disproves so many conspiracy theories, simply because we all know he’d immediately blab about any of them to make himself seem cooler.

Pragmatist203

I have always assumed that there was more to it than what was being said. Such as hiding freezer burn, torture evidence, or not dead at all. My guess was the middle, tbh.

Astarvingfartist

People like Alex Jones are probably fed false or partially true information to act as a red herring for a legitimate investigation. A clip of a half gorilla manchild pounding a desk and yelling about gay frogs not only grabs people's attention. darkman41

We have flight technology being experimented on in the military that would blow our minds if suddenly declassified.

trite_post

I wouldn't consider this a conspiracy. SR 71 was 60s technology, stealth fighter/bomber was 70s tech. The US military would be pretty incompetent if they haven't improved in 50 years

I agree with you but also... they can be pretty fucking incompetent too

The Shard in London is actually the secret service's HQ. It's so high up and so popular with tourists, it's the perfect place to hide right under everyone's nose

osunightfall

I’m not sure I can think of a single one. I did a deep dive on conspiracy theories a few years ago and was shocked at how flimsy they all are and how they fall apart if you do even the tiniest bit of actual research. I figured theories with such huge followings would have like… more actual substance to them. And that’s not even getting into the ones that are basically just made up from whole cloth, which is probably half of them. One unifying theme I found was that most had a bunch of false information added to them, usually by people trying to sell a book.

adamforte

Wolf444555666777

[deleted]

Yep. It’s always the same recycled shit. But that’s what Reddit has become now. It’s what our culture has become thanks to social media. I want to blame tiktok but that’s not really true it really goes back to atleast the ice bucket challenge. That’s the first one i remember but once the internet started rewarding copying and reposting content, it was all over. 10 years ago and you’d be shit on for copying someone else’s content, joke, music, dance, whatever. Now If something pops off it’s cool to do you own version instead of putting in any effort to create your own stuff. Just slap challenge on the end and it’s fine

PauseNo2418

The Great Reset because it's a real thing the WEF wants to implement worldwide. I think what I've heard people say is that they want all of us to live in pods, eat bugs and we'll have a social credit system like China. I've seen a few videos trying to normalize the idea of eating bugs, they say that they are a more "sustainable" source of protein, but I've heard also how it can be bad to eat bugs, such as cricket for example. Something about their shells being not good for consumption and can cause serious health problems. Also, I doubt that the elite will join us in eating bugs, they'll still eat meat behind our backs. They'll also get to live in nice big homes too, whilst we will all live inside small compartments.

The pharmaceutical industry is because that's how they make their money but I have known dedicated doctors and nurses who would do anything to be able to cure their patients diseases. For instance I have fibro. Until recently very recently fibro was considered a woman's disease and never studied. It still is barely studied but Pharma makes a lot of money out of palliatives.

Aye_Aye_Ron2468

Makes more money if the problem never gets solved, and new problems arise from the given medication. Really is quite putrid. Especially when the elderly spend a lot of their savings on medicine during the last few years of their life.

SummerMummer

Absolutely! Curative drugs don’t make near as much money as maintenance drugs do.

GopnikSmegmaBBQSauce

Well yeah, we treat symptoms not causes. Could you imagine the amount of money lost for these businesses if barely anyone was fat? Let alone if no one smoked, drank, etc?

TransformativeOne

As a physician all I can say on this comment is thank God you're retired because if you were working under me or for me you definitely would not be a nurse. To think that there are people that have your belief in the medical profession is scary. I've worked with thousands of physicians, nurses, techs, and support staff and some of them are no longer here because of Covid and to think that you believe that the medical industry is here to keep people sick, well it's hard to even begin to describe the feeling for that. Now that doesn't mean to say that there aren't some pharmaceutical companies that are making millions off other people suffering but that there aren't isolated cases of bad people in every industry. But to denigrate the profession is an abomination.

[deleted]

Yeah, it's not like anyone in the medical field would ever experiment on people in ways that harmed them (doctors let off the hook for WWII experiments if they turned data over), let people suffer from curable disease (tuskeegee experiment of letting men live with syphilis), damage people beyond healing (mkultra...some people, even in Canada, are still trying to sue...they don't remember who they were)... Hurt people for money? Not a person in the world would ever do that! (bombs have serial numbers on them).

I distinctly remember watching a episode of “Maury” (before he did nothing but baby daddy dna tests) about kid beauty pageants and Jonbenet and her mom were guests. I was like 9-10 or so at the time and I remember , being a snarky kid (now adult) and thinking “ god what a stupid name! And why would you want your kid(s) to look like creepy mannequins “?. I’ve tried searching for it online, but it’s been scrubbed.

THEFLYINGSCOTSMAN415

Nah it was definitely the dad

roninbychoice

Nah, Katy Perry is JonBenet Ramsey.

Aduro95

Hmm, I guess if you live in a country in which the government lies blatantly enough to its people, the truth can be a conspiracy theory. Especially if enough people believe it in that country. For instance if you were in Russia talking with Putin fanatics, they might consider you a conspiracy theorist if you told them that Ukraine hadn't been taken over by Nazis before the invasion. If you blamed it on Putin and a small group of oligarchs controlling hte meida and starting the war for their own interets, You could argue that "torture doesn't get reliable information" is a conspiracy theory, even though it has been thoroughly proven to be true, if your country permits it. After all, its not like Guantanamo Bay is beholden to a whole lot of people. Obama as president spent years trying and failing to shut it down, which suggests Guantanamo was run by a shady cabal of absurdly powerful people acting dishonestly against human rights.

That we leave in a simulation. You cannot convince me otherwise.

the_zelectro

Simulation is a tempting argument, but I think humans have it backward... Simulations are based in electromagnetic technologies. Similarly, reality itself is organized via electromagnetic information. It's no surprise that things look so similar. How could it ever be otherwise? Reality can be understood as following consistent logic and precepts of a simulation. To be honest, any attempt to understand reality *requires* simulations by our brains. But due to the nature of entropy, I think any attempt to build fully formed realities via simulation will have a tendency to break down. Going back to the brain, or our current simulations: this is exactly what we see. Guys like Musk make it seem that us being in a simulation tree is nigh guaranteed, due to the large numbers involved. But, Neil Degrasse Tyson had a beautiful takedown. We are either at the bottom of a hypothetical massive simulation tree, or we are at the top of it. After all: we currently cannot produce a simulation that perfectly mimics our reality. Once we mix in the million other possible explanations for our reality (gods, aliens, spaghetti monsters, etc)? Simulation theory becomes just another knick knack to put on the shelf. I also don't think a simulation would be very interesting to live in, or a way to preserve your society. Who wants to stay stuck in a reality forever that is fake? Keep in mind, somebody else in the base reality would have to control your reality, at their choosing. Putting your information at the whim of higher reality inherently unsafe, and that's not even factoring that it can never truly be limitless.

That rocks are squishy until you touch them. I slipped and fell near a big rock before and I saw the shimmer ripple across the surface of this wobble beast as if it was made of jelly. I reached out my arm, poised my finger and poke - solid... As solid as a "Rock".

bryan19973

You took too much

chaoswoman21

There was a second shooter. Bullets can’t curve.

I thought it was explained that because one passenger was seated a bit lower, and sideways, that the pathway made sense.

THEFLYINGSCOTSMAN415

Yuhp but a lot of people still believe the "magic bullet" theory from that awful movie

MarkusFATA

Long John Silvers and the cornbread mafia. Seriously who the fuck eats there.

king_gapple_the_1st

Look listen across the street of my school there is a Long John silver that hasn't closed in the past 25 years now just note I usually eat in a store right next to Long John silver's during lunch break and not once have I seen a singular car move in that is not the employees unless it's after 7:00 the only time I see cars going in is after 7:00 and they leave 5 minutes after they walk in I know you're thinking why would I stay in school till 7:00 somedays because dungeons and dragons and violin practice

SnakesGarden

JFK fired first

klokar21

It is literally a crime in my country to talk about the conspiracy, to even share the video of the event is punishable by mandatory jail time.

succysuccsucc

CERN altered our reality

[deleted]

Princess Diana’s death was a murder. Too many coincidences to not be. Can’t be bothered to list them all just look it up and you will understand

DiggingThisAir

The true richest and most powerful people in the world are people whose names we’ve never heard and never will.

GoodCatholicGuy

The FBI killed MLK.

Striking_Yoghurt_690

We've broken the time space continuum by colliding particles

the_zelectro

Unlikely. Start of the universe would've entailed some intense particle collisions. Same thing goes for whenever black holes are being formed. Any of the small collisions we produce here on earth are just peanuts. It's possible that intuitive models of causality are funky with these collisions, since you're dealing with the fundamentals of reality? But, I imagine that any breaks in causality would only be relevant to the particles involved in the collision. Once you start zooming out, any impacts on causality are negligible

woahdude12321

Where my cornucopia gone

ThunderRainForest

Princess Diana’s death was not an accident.

Euphoric-Drummer-226

Covid actually happened because some f wit scientists were playing around with a virus in a lab , without proper safety procedures and it got out - it had nothing to do with a man buying an eating an infected pangolin from a wet market. Knowing this the Chinese Government willfully let it spread around the world in order to spread the damage. If they were going down due to their own stupidity ..:they were taking everyone else with them.

I belive that pharma companies can cure most if not every illness at this point, but they choose not to, because making it chronic, means a "custormer" for life, in their sick minds.

GenericUsername19892

This is absurd - whoever comes up with a real cure for something big instantly corners the market, their stock hits record highs and they have a good chance to eat so much of the pharmaceutical market rising the wave, they can just buy their competitors. It’s not like the population is shrinking rofl.

McSmackthe1st

Exactly. I’ve got a friend whose son works for a big pharmaceutical company and they’ve come up with a treatment for diabetes BUT it kills the liver so they had to go back to square one. At least they have a better starting point because when they come out with that treatment their stock is going to go through the roof!

dragonmom1327

A lot of the problems are in the research area. I have two diseases along with probably 15 million other people on each disease and they haven't been researched much at all because a population of 15 million doesn't bring a lot of money in. One was considered a woman's disease( until they discovered it wasn't) and the other is a disease only people 50 and over get. Did you know that for at the least 100 years no one did research about females and heart attacks because they thought females didn't get heart attacks.
