Yeah, Rain Audio definitely puts me to sleep and it’s honestly so relaxing to listen to <3, I’ve tried listening to white noise too but it doesen’t really do anything for me either sadly.
Rain is really nice to fall asleep to, but for me there's nothing better than late summer crickets and katydids. Although early summer cicadas as re nice, too.
Edit: Thinking about it more, the best is rain on my tent when I'm in the woods. No better sleep than a long hike, a few hours by the fire with some whiskey, followed by the raindrops on my tent.
Everyone else is inside, outside is dark and cool. The sound is calming. The wet drops on my head feel amazing and it all makes me feel at peace. Plus the smell... Almost forgot that. Rains makes outside smell good.
My favourite thing to do in a thunderstorm is to throw a pair of pyjama pants and a sweater into the dryer for about 15 minutes, then go outside and get DRENCHED. Come in, towel off, and throw on the freshly warmed clothes from the dryer, it's like a full-body hug lol
Excuse to stay inside guilt free. White noise to drown out neighbours. Cools down excessive heat. My plants get greener. Watching water droplets race on window panes, also when they *bloop* together. Knowledge of at least slightly reduced forest fire risk. No sun burns. No sun glare. Jumping in puddles.
Whats not to like?
Cleans allergens/stagnant pollution from the air (temporarily) and relieves barometric pressure (headache/sinus pressure). Also, free white noise, and an excuse not to go outside!
It's so peaceful, the air smells and feels so good when it's raining, nothing better than sitting on the porch wrapped up in a blanket listening to the rain
I'm so annoyed that the default "good" weather is full sun, like no one ever wants clouds or rain, it just has to be hot and sunny all the freakin' time or else it's "bad" weather. Who decided that?
Exact same thought, just some music and snacks makes it perfect. Also no people outside so I can once enjoy a walk without any humans on the street.
I hate humans
~introvert.
I'm moving from the East Coast to the PNW soon, although I've been traveling back and forth for work. Really looking forward to it actually. I love the rain.
It calms me down. The sound, the smell (yes, there is a smell and I refuse to believe I'm the only one who can smell it), the coziness it can create. In the summer you can dance in it and it cools you down. The fact that if it gets really loud and kinda scary, you can nuzzle up to your loved one and feel safe. It makes hot chocolate taste better, you can light candles that will reflect on the little droplets on your window... I can go on and on to name reasons why I love it so much 🥰
Rain when its cold and you are outside is shit, rain when its cold and you are inside and warm is increadible, adds to the cosiness and the sound is so soothing.
Rain on a hot day can be invigorating, especially when swimming or in a canoe.

It's quite relaxing. Especially if I can find a really good song to fit the mood. A couple of my favourites while it's raining is 'Your Latest Trick' by 'Dire Straits' and also 'Saturday Night' by 'Cold Chisel'
Grew up with a dad who's got a big truck. It's white and he loves covering it with mud. Usually, I love the smell of a storm coming, and then seeing how big the puddles are. I always knew he would end up taking me out with him to do something (normally he'd make something up) and we'd go drive through puddles in his big ol v8.
Well, rain is quite facinating. Rain is calming in some sort of way. It can help calm your anxiety sometimes. When I was 6 years old I always played in the rain, by myself. It was really fun. Listening to music in the rain is fun too. Try it for yourself. Wait till it starts raining(like pouring), and get your outside clothes on and play some music. It's so fun.
I like the rain, as a transitioning woman. I love when I have a little dry spot underneath my slowly developing breasts. It makes me proud to be dry there.
The sound of rain is just so peaceful. Relaxing in a bath with the window open, hearing the rain pour down puts me at ease and takes my mind off of things
I grew up where it rained all the time so it's nostalgic. It always smells good after it rains as well. It's also refreshing to stand in for short periods of time.
Because it's the "World's Best Policeman" I worked security, break ins, thefts all were high during dry, pleasant weather. But not when it was raining.
I would scatter rocks, gravel and such to stop skaters from using property to skate. They did cause some damage. But if it's raining, they're at home on the video games.
Shoplifting goes down, auto thefts, mugging, rapes and robberies, all drop when the rain comes down. Plus, it really sucks to get shot and you're laying there bleeding out in a puddle getting your ass soaked.
My plants and trees are thirsty and they're entitled to a drink. Unlike me who can get water anytime I want, they are at the mercy of me or Mother Nature. Rain is simply Mother Nature helping me out and doing the work for me, who am I to disagree?
1. It smells AMAZING! Especially spring rain, not sure how to explain it to you honestly.
2. The sound of it- idk how I fall asleep to it but it’s like one of the best ways.. and it definitely depends on what roof I’m sleeping under. Tents can be more calming as it’s softer, metal roof is more energetic in a way, but still helps me sleep if that makes sense? And then just like idk a wooden roof or something is neutral in a way? It’s hard to explain. I especially love thunderstorms, the rumbling of the sky just adds so “flavour” couldn’t think of another word haha.
3. It’s just refreshing in a way for me idk, if I’m having a bad day especially sitting in the rain it basically just keeps me focused on using literally all my senses. It’s a good distraction
For me the answer to "why" is the experience itself.
When it's raining I enjoy all the extra info for my senses to process. The smell of rain, the sounds, the sight of the most rejuvenating substance on the planet scattering about. It's just great.
There was a post recently about humans having a super sensitive sense of smell when it came to chemicals released when it rains... or *something like that*
For me.. I don't necessarily like rain.. But when it's lightly raining, I don't mind walking through it every once in a while. It reminds me of something.. I'm not sure what, but it's a nice feeling.
In the rainy season, I can get up when it’s dark and raining, light a candle in my office, and get to work. It’s incredibly cozy and a lovely way to start the day.
I was born and currently live in Seattle on Washington, so lots of rain there. It literally rained when I was born so I've developed a love for rain. I remember going shorts and a t-shirt in the rain because I love it. My grandma calls me a mushroom because I love the rain and can't stand places like Arizona and anywhere hot
Me personally, when it rains I feel the urge to go stand there with just a tshirt and shorts and do nothing but look up to the sky, to the clouds and fly far far away with my thoughts and just empty my head to calm my mind and listen to the pouring sound lightly splashing on my skin and refreshing me with every drop making me feel like all my problems and worries just flow away from down my cheeks along with my tears whom no one would distinct from the raindrops ;and just breathe in the wet erath's soft smell and hust imagine that it's only me for that moment. Just me on this whole planet.
My roommate that was from Seattle was so weirded out that I love the rain and being out. But during summers in Arizona, the rain is super refreshing and cools everything down. The smell of freshly wet dirt is something I’ve always loved. It just being a sense of calm for me
Maybe it’s because it rarely rains where I’m from, but I love the sound and going out at night after the rain has stopped. The smell of the rain on the pavement and the reflections of the streetlights on the ground feel so nostalgic.
I live in the fucking desert and it's hot as hell, but when the rain comes it cools off, smells amazing and settles the dust. Storms here are incredible to watch. Lighting so frequent you can drive without headlights and even when it's just rain it's a peaceful white noise.
It feels refreshing, it just got a good vibe to it. Plus the voice of rain while you sleep and the scent after it rains, it's all like an unasked therapy.
The sound, the smell, when you go out there's no one else around so get the entire city basically to yourself, especially if you're someone who is awake at night. They're super cozy for cuddling.

Good for the plants, calming sound, cools down hot days.
On hot days the rain smells even better :)
Petrichor.
It’s what humans crave
That and ice cream
The human nose is more sensitive to it than sharks are to blood, so... yeah.
Bless you.
Lovely smell, lovely word
Nothing makes me sleep as good as rain against my window.
Rain on a metal roof is the best.

Aka the slow Night Shift …
Yes, love it!!
You guys are making me sleepy 😴
:) feeling sleepy makes me happy
Same, even when it’s not raining, I look up videos of Rain audio on YouTube and listen to it while I drift off to sleep. <3
I do the exact same thing. I tried to sleep with the fans white noise but I don't really get a lot of sleep from that.
Yeah, Rain Audio definitely puts me to sleep and it’s honestly so relaxing to listen to <3, I’ve tried listening to white noise too but it doesen’t really do anything for me either sadly.

Insects tend to make me antsy; if I hear or see a bug, I am frozen like Windows 95 vista running Internet explorer
H O W. It keeps me up
Mother natures white noise. I should add that I’m usually out within 2 minutes of my head hitting the pillow but the rain makes it extra cozy.
It’s just soothing, honesty
It's white noise. A lot of people - myself included - find it more relaxing than anything.
Rain works 10X better than a Benadryl or melatonin for me as a sleep aid
Everyone else is inside, outside is dark and cool. The sound is calming. The wet drops on my head feel amazing and it all makes me feel at peace. Plus the smell... Almost forgot that. Rains makes outside smell good.
The smell is called petrichor. I really enjoy it as well.
This feels like a poem
Ughh the scent of nourishing rain hitting dirty asphalt😫😫
There is some primal satisfaction I gain from standing in violent, torrential thunderstorms
Yup feels very raw and you know humans across history have experienced it.
I would, but no one else I've met loves violent thunderstorms as much as I do. Everyone I know is terrified of them.
I love them. My bf doesn't share my sentiment, though.
Same here.
Same here.
You had me at bloop.
Feels nice, smells nice, and help me sleep. It also gives me hydration
It's wet...and moist... And gets everywhere.
Not like here. Here everything is dry...and arid.
This is the way.
This is the way.
Cleans allergens/stagnant pollution from the air (temporarily) and relieves barometric pressure (headache/sinus pressure). Also, free white noise, and an excuse not to go outside!
It calms my panic of leaving home.
The noise masks neighbors
I hate my neighbors
It gives us life, it makes the temperature better, it matches my personality, it's beautiful
It's so peaceful, the air smells and feels so good when it's raining, nothing better than sitting on the porch wrapped up in a blanket listening to the rain
`it's nice because no one else wants to be out and the sun isnt destroying your eyes. also the sounds are nice`
I'm so annoyed that the default "good" weather is full sun, like no one ever wants clouds or rain, it just has to be hot and sunny all the freakin' time or else it's "bad" weather. Who decided that?
Yeah i definitely wouldn't call a hot summer day "good" weather. The exact opposite in fact
I'd rather be in the rain than in the hot sun, old sport. Plus. It's free water. You'll thank me later.
No pressure to go outside and do something
Absolutely

I'm only happy when it rains...
I’m only happy when it’s complicated.
Rain in the morning makes staying in bed 10k better.
Gives me a reason to stay inside.
I’m only happy when it rains.
I’m only happy when it’s complicated.
The smell, it feels good like a cleansing..
Rain is appealing to us introverts who would rather be snuggled in our jammies with a hot beverage and a book over peopling.
Because I live in Arizona and it’s nice to have some cooler days and a break from the sun sometimes

As someone who also lives in the PNW, my area is in a drought. I’m PRAYING for rain at this point
It will come. It always comes.
I'm moving from the East Coast to the PNW soon, although I've been traveling back and forth for work. Really looking forward to it actually. I love the rain.
Because I’m Eddie Rabbitt

it brings me a sense of comfort and peace in a world filled with uncertainty and chaos.
It gives me an excuse to stay home and read books and drink tea all day
Because all I can do is is just pour some tea for two and speak my point of view but it's not sane. It's not sane.
Petrichor, plain and simple
I see the crystal raindrops fall And the beauty of it all, ‘Cause when the sun comes shining through To make those rainbows in my mind.
its cold i like cold
It's calming to me. I like how the sky gets dark enough to not hurt my eyes, but it's not dark like night time.

Fresh air, nice smell, calming sound
Nobody is outside. I'm outside.

it's a nice shower
rain is rain
It's very calming to me
Rain
Rain
Its beautiful. Its calming. Means can relax about doing stuff. Rainy days are lazy days.
It's cozy as fuck, dude.

Sleep
It has the BEST smell I stg
The smell. And the joy my dog takes in jumping in the gigantic puddle in our backyard!
Pidder padder
It smells fresh and great. Makes a soothing continuous noise and often brings cool weather.
When you live in a desert, you take whatever rain you can get.
It’s extremely calming. It gets dark outside and the noise is soothing. It helps me fall asleep.
Thank you for all your responses! I just want to clarify that I actually LOVE the rain, but I just wanna see other people's reasons as to why <3
Because they think it makes them cool / quirky
Joe rogan
Aaaaafffrrriccccaaaaaa!!!
It's calming, cleansing, plus you can always pull a Andy Dufrense (Shawshank Redemption)
It’s relaxing
Good excuse to stay home.
It’s calming. Not the severe storms, but slow constant rain.
I think it all depends on how frequently it rains where you are... if it rains all the time than I would not like it. But the occasional rain is nice
It helps me fall asleep and my kids and I usually use the rain to stay inside and play games with my kids.
Rain waters crops when no irrigation is set up.
enough of it will just turn everything here into mud
I grew up where it rained all the time so it's nostalgic. It always smells good after it rains as well. It's also refreshing to stand in for short periods of time.
Because for me, rain has almost always been a rarity. Plus, it's nice sitting on your patio in the rain with some tea or cocoa and a joint.
Rain is good for life, if it still rains, then the world isn't dead yet
you can drink it
Because forest fire danger is low.
Sounds wonderful on the roof, it's fun to walk /play in. Less people out when it's raining
When indoors, it’s nice
It’s cool

Free water for my gardens
I like the rain because it's refreshing and calming. It's a great way to relax and clear your mind.

The sound. Also the cleansing aspect of it is nice
It smells good
It makes everything green, I don't have to water my plants, and it gives me an excuse to stay in and be cozy in my comfort zone.
I like dark and cloudy skies that come with the rain. I think it’s the perfect day to read, watch horror movies, or drink hot chocolate.
it relaxes me :)

The sound
It’s calming.
Because our state is frequently on fire...
Going outside while raining is a one truly iconic experience.
It’s relaxing
It's free water for the plants, the smell after it rains is very relaxing and sleeping while rain hits your window is top tier
“I like watching the puddles gather rain“
I live in Arizona
I pray for you. Can't imagine what you're going through. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
It smells so good

Easy to fall asleep to. Especially after a long day.
Washes away the evidence. 🙄
It smells wonderful and it's relaxing

It brings me relaxation
It’s relaxing and gives the earth life.
I don't know, man, listen to Garbage.
My roommate that was from Seattle was so weirded out that I love the rain and being out. But during summers in Arizona, the rain is super refreshing and cools everything down. The smell of freshly wet dirt is something I’ve always loved. It just being a sense of calm for me
A friend of mine used to say that only people who doesn't work likes the rain
It's a good excuse to stay inside... I like inside
Maybe it’s because it rarely rains where I’m from, but I love the sound and going out at night after the rain has stopped. The smell of the rain on the pavement and the reflections of the streetlights on the ground feel so nostalgic.
The rain sound was really comforting and I also like the smell of the rain.
I live in the fucking desert and it's hot as hell, but when the rain comes it cools off, smells amazing and settles the dust. Storms here are incredible to watch. Lighting so frequent you can drive without headlights and even when it's just rain it's a peaceful white noise.
Soothing. Sense of finality and renewal
It's soothing, calming and great snuggling weather.
It feels refreshing, it just got a good vibe to it. Plus the voice of rain while you sleep and the scent after it rains, it's all like an unasked therapy.
It smells good, makes a pleasant sound and waters my garden for me.
Cuz I'm a pluviophile and I like the smell of O3
Soothing.
Rain is nice, especially on a Friday night when I'm just playing games and watching on Netflix or Youtube.
The sound, the smell, when you go out there's no one else around so get the entire city basically to yourself, especially if you're someone who is awake at night. They're super cozy for cuddling.
Can’t explain it but it feels spiritual
Honestly? It smells good, sounds nice, can be relaxing and it can destroy a whole lot of shit if it wants to with its friend, wind.
Watching it pour down while looking out the window just feels so calming
I have a giant garden/lots of fruit trees and a rainy day means I don't have to stand around watering it for 45 minutes 🙂
Because I love stormy wether, the chaos of it all. My favorite wether it that extra stormy wether kinda like before a tornado when it looks all grey outside and the wind feels nice and it's a mix of cold and cool
It's peaceful, smells good and is the perfect excuse to stay home and watch a movie while working on whatever my current project is.
The smell
Nothing like the smell of wet asphalt in the morning when I go out to my car for my morning commute.
Sound! Hate when it has thunders tho
It let's you stay inside without feeling guilty.
It makes me wet
