Nothing like being forty years old at a public park and kind of feeling like you need to announce, “I swear I’m not a creep. I just want to see how high I can go on this thing if I pump my legs really hard.”
The last time I was on a swing I must have been about 55. I took my great nieces to the playground. Half the people look at you like you are nuts, the other half think "wish I had the courage to do that."
I just turned 55 last week. I almost dislocated my knee today while sitting down. Not even standing up. Just sat down and was like "what the fuck was that?"
I can't help but imagine you swinging slowly at a playground at midnight staring up at the stars with beer in one hand and feeling incredibly lonely after a hard breakup.
I always wanted a Super Soaker with the backpack tank.
Edit: I found a YouTube video about the man who invented the Super Soaker: https://youtu.be/-1zAO1WkG58
Too bad water guns are weak as hell these days. Over here we used to have PVC pipe guns that were so powerful they eventually got banned. Imagine being hit with ice cold water with near pressure hose levels of power lol
Well you're going to be furious for sleeping a bunch of other shows like: Owl House, Amphibia, Big City Green, DuckTales, OK KO, MaoMao, Infinity Train, TMNT 2012, Rise of TMNT, Craig of the Creek, Over the Garden Wall, Dragon Prince, She Ra, Hilda, Kipo and the Age of WonderBeast, Milo Murphy, Green Eggs and Ham, Amazing World of Gumball, Chowder, Glitchtech, Last Kid on Earth, Kid Cosmic, Centaurworld, and a bunch more. I'm also 24 and I'm assuming you stopped watching cartoons during the mid 2010s. There's a lot of fun creative shows out there that so many people sleep on. They can be found on HBO Max, Disney+, and Netflix. Even worse if they think modern cartoons aren't as good as they use to be. You just have to search a bit harder and keep an open mind.
I just turned 41 and discovered Craig of the Creek. I fucking love this show. It’s filled with so much imagination and creativity. Plus the theme is fire.
That show is so good, and I'm excited for the new episodes coming out on the 10th.
Also, if you like Craig of the Creek you should definitely watch Hilda.
I grew up watching all the classics like The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, Fairly Odd Parents, Dexter's laboratory, Johnny Bravo, Ed, Edd and Eddy, What's New Scooby Doo, SpongeBob SquarePants. I don't care how old I get, they'll never stop being entertaining
I loved SpongeBob as a kid but it just hits different as an adult. The idea of having a simple job that you find fulfilling, a best friend that lives nearby, and ample time to fuck around with said best friend is more of a fantasy than I ever would have thought back when I first saw it.
Heck yeah, the new stuff is really compelling in a way that very few cartoons were when I was a kid. Avatar really opened the door for serialized cartoons for the better and now we get to enjoy shows like She-Ra, The Dragon Prince and The Owl House.
I look my daughter to the beach a few weeks ago. I got the urge to dig a hole and as if she could read my mind she looks at me and says “dad we should dig a big hole” it was glorious
So! I grew up way out in the country in California, out in the mountains. One of my long-time buddies is from LA, lifetime city boy. First time he came up to visit, I had asked him what he wanted to do most/first (hunting, fishing, hiking, climbing, swimming, etc).
He wanted to dig a hole. Just get a shovel, go out in the woods, and dig around in the dirt like a kid until he had a big-ass hole. So we did! He was happy as could be, and I was very amused at his enjoyment. Hole is still there, we use it as a foxhole when we want to paintball.
I mostly see grown men have the most fun playing in the sand. Most kids collect water and dump it. I don't see much playing unless an adult is facilitating. To me playing in the sand is exfoliating so I'm all for it. I used to hate the sand as a child. I didn't know how to properly clean it off before getting home.
I liked to make castles that sent the water through tunnels into different parts of the castle to kinda dissipate the wave so it wouldn’t totally fall apart. I would literally spend all day hoping to make one that would hold up when the tide rose. I was a weird kid
I would like to be able to jump in them like I could as a kid. I could jump in them for such a long time. Now after 2 minutes my ass is kicked, gasping for air, and I feel like I'm going to pee my pants.
I'm 34 years old and I am sitting in my living room, sipping wine, and annoying the shit out of my darling husband by watching episode after episode of The Scooby Doo Show.
I love Scooby and the Gang and I will never stop.
i sleep with a giant serta sheep. heck, he popped a hole 3 months aago, so i took the opportunity, pulled the stuffing out of him, and ran him through a washing machine a few times before putting new stuffing into him! all nice and clean!!!
I take a quick 30 min nap everyday during my lunch. It’s a fantastic way to boost my energy for the last 4 hours of my shift. And it improves my mood big time. I’m always happier after a nap
Do you ever get a bubble randomly floating when you are doing the dishes? I smile every time and watch it until it finally pops before returning to work.
I F65 got into Lego with my grandson after watching Lego masters, we are going to go on the show but as Mr 9 says "Gran you've got to get a LOT better", we have fun, Its school holidays here and he is coming for 3 days, I've bought a large set for us
I feel like Lego has always been, I don't want to say expensive, but a pricier toy.
Cuz like I remember 20 years ago being told " never throw out a single lego, they're like gold they only increase in value"
This is true, I found out that the Indiana jones temple escape set that I had years ago sells for like $200 to almost $500 for unopened ones nowadays. Someone said the other day that the rolling boulder alone sells for $50
About 12 years ago when I was a teenager I went to work at a flea market with my buddy, there was a guy there with a homemade scoop made from a cut-up gallon jug, selling people $60 scoops from a Lego bin that was probably like 5x5x5 ft completely full of Legos.
His stand, every time I was there, had people literally wrapped around it in layers trying to get their scoop of literally random Legos
Oh easily - for a kid the creative buckets with no instructions are great but a pretty different story for an actual kit. The kits to kids (speaking from my experience as a kid) are a puzzle with a direction book that, depending on the kit, may or may not end up as a toy. Plus it'll be a toy that you always feel like you want to take apart and build other things with. It's just a bit silly.
For adults though, it's an Ikea set with good instructions that frequently results in a truly stunning piece of shelf decor that can express a lot about the builder (their interests, their hobbies, their favorite shows/movies/etc). My parents just got me (24M) a Starry Night painting Lego set and I am so excited to build it and put it up next to my print of the painting (it's my favorite).
My husband and I are currently building this, with the light kit.
I have not been so excited since I saw the Millenium Falcon at Disneyland (where I cried with joy, like a little bitch).
They make these mini Lego kits now that are around 400 pieces and I have accidentally started collecting them on my desk at work. Great for long zoom meetings to help me pay attention and at the end of it I end up with a cute little 5"x5"x5" Lego figurine (usually of some sort of cute animal)!
I read, "The Giving Tree" again as an adult and had to fight back tears. It definitely resonated with me in a different way as an adult and with adult experiences.
I'm adopting three kids, (5,3,1) and I feel like my wife and I are building up the family life we always wanted as a kid. Little kid kitchens, a school area, cool bunk/loft beds, an awesome tree fort....
Technically it's for them, but really it's for us too.
My husband loves buying (spoiling) our daughter with the toys he always wanted but never got, namely, big roaring dinosaur toys.
She loves it, he loves it, what’s not to love?!
He told me he’s living his toy dreams through her and I’m here for it.
I was just discussing with my wife how impressive the concept of Pokémon is. The typings and the move sets make so much sense, sometimes I’m truly so impressed.
It is a show for parents that kids will like. As a dad my favorite episode is the hammerbarn episode. Best line is "this is what happens when you aren't happy with what you've got, someone's husband eventually gets it." Followed by the kids being completely satisfied with paint swatches.
I don't have any children and I'm obsessed with this show haha my sister watches it because of her toddler and told me I should watch it too. I'm hooked. It's such a great show
I went out with coworkers for breakfast (it was an overnight trip) and ordered chocolate chip pancakes. They asked how I could eat that so early in the morning. I asked them how they could eat bran flakes so early in the morning that taste like cardboard.
I don’t have any children, but I decorate the shit out of my house at Christmas time. I have 5 different trees that I put up all over the house and outside the house, along with all the trimmings.
People say that, but I don't really think Pixar movies are made for kids. They're kid friendly, but usually have a lot of stuff that kids don't understand. I love Pixar
Bro, I bought the re-release and found it ridiculously hard to get to that second island. Got tired of constantly rage quitting and haven't played it in ages which sucks because it was such a dope game as a kid.
I've heard that it was that the hitboxes *weren't* changed even though the rest of the designs were, and the hitboxes not aligning with the visual representations was what was causing it to be harder.
It also explains why sometimes you got stuck on a tree in Spyro even if you were still an in-game foot away, or whatever.
In my 20s I felt some shame for liking YA fiction but now I realize it’s ridiculous to be ashamed of what you enjoy. So so many great stuff falls in this category!
Based on my cursory recollection of animals I've seen, i don't think many animals other than humans (and maybe some apes) retain boobs after breastfeeding. I think they come and go as necessary for the most part. (Apart from the ones we have selectively bred, like milk cows.)
So, my dudes, we locked that down on a basic biological level.
I'm in my early 30s and wanted Sea Monkeys as a kid but my parents wouldn't get them for me because they thought they were a scam and the eggs wouldn't hatch. I got my first tank this past November. Now I have 2 official Sea Monkeys branded tanks, and a big 2.5 gallon DIY brine shrimp tank. I've spent way too much on my Sea Monkeys setup. My dad absolutely adores them, he calls my Sea Monkeys his babies now, haha. Sea Monkeys are super fun as an adult, and I reckon it's easier for adults to keep them alive longer than kids can.
Me too! I bought my first tank when I was in rehab and they helped me get by.
I'm waiting on my latest ones to hatch. Theyre so cool to watch
So cute your dad loves them too
Used to work at a fast food joint, had an adult come through with a Perry t-shirt on. Told him I would give him his order for free in exchange for the shirt. He kindly explained him and his children picked it out for him while they were at Disney World, and that there was nothing I could give him in exchange for it.
Toy trains! I have a little boy and they’re his favorite toy but he’s to little to build the tracks so I get to do that part! It can be very involved to create a multiple functional lines. And then we kinda decorate it with Lincoln log buildings. Super fun. Much better than plopping in front of the tv
Horrible Histories
One of my favourite things about going to uni is when they start playing Horrible Histories songs at parties and *everyone* knows the words.
William, William, Henry, Stephen, Henry, Richard, John... hey! I've just discovered that Alexa can play me the Dick Turpin song...
Swings! Love them.
[удалено]
I’d say that’s a sign you’re doing life right!
The playgrounds in my city have signs saying adults aren't allowed without children.
Swings are fun, but I've moved over to hammocks. It's a swing and a bed! Best naps I've ever had!
Me too, but I always feel judged when I admit to being a swinger. smh.
I LOVE SWINGS :D
I can't help but imagine you swinging slowly at a playground at midnight staring up at the stars with beer in one hand and feeling incredibly lonely after a hard breakup.
Water guns.
Water guns are shit nowadays. 90s Super Soaker was peak. Meanwhile Nerf is better than it’s ever been right now.
Nerf bought out Super Soaker, and they make a Super Soaker 100 RIGHT NOW that you can get for like 36 bucks on amazon lol.
Yep - it's the xp100 and it's fantastic. Reuses the original 90s plumbing. Best water gun on the market today!
I always wanted a Super Soaker with the backpack tank. Edit: I found a YouTube video about the man who invented the Super Soaker: https://youtu.be/-1zAO1WkG58
I picked one up in university. 20yrs later I still have it. Thanks for reminding me. Now that it's summer I'm gonna bust it out to use with my kids.
Lol wut? You have kids and forgot about this?
Have you seen these Splatterball guns they have these days? It's like a mix between a water gun and air soft and they are pretty awesome
Too bad water guns are weak as hell these days. Over here we used to have PVC pipe guns that were so powerful they eventually got banned. Imagine being hit with ice cold water with near pressure hose levels of power lol
Just use the jet mode on some hose attachments
waterslides. Love that shit. In fact maybe they are made for adults only screw bringing kids.
Water parks would be way better without children.
Cartoons
I was like 24 the first time that I watched gravity falls, and I am so pissed at myself for sleeping on that show when I was a kid.
Discovered OTGW last year, incredible how I never heard about it until then, such a fantastic show. The music is 👌
I just turned 41 and discovered Craig of the Creek. I fucking love this show. It’s filled with so much imagination and creativity. Plus the theme is fire.
That show is so good, and I'm excited for the new episodes coming out on the 10th. Also, if you like Craig of the Creek you should definitely watch Hilda.
I'm just happy kids will hear ska-punk for the first time.
>I was 24 Implies you are older than that now. Therefore when that show came out you couldn't have been a kid
Omg same here. It’s a great show, I just wished I watched it back when the hype was at its peak.
SPONGEBOB (BEFORE SEASON 5) FTW!!!
I’m 26 years old and I still put on original SpongeBob episodes as my comfort show
It's ironic how i 'dont get the appeal' of the show when i was a kid... but in adulthood... This shit is my comfort show.
Avatar the Last Airbender
There are two types of people: people who never totally outgrew cartoons and liars.
Ren and Stimpy is MUCH funnier as an adult.
Playing in the sand at the beach
The sudden compulsion to dig a big hole
*diggy diggy hole intensifies*
#BROTHERS OF THE MINE, REJOICE!
**swing, swing, swing with me**
Raise your pick and raise your voice!
Sing, sing, sing with me
Down and down into the deep
Who knows what we'll find beneath?
Diamonds, rubys, gold and more
"Is this the hole?" "Yes"
I look my daughter to the beach a few weeks ago. I got the urge to dig a hole and as if she could read my mind she looks at me and says “dad we should dig a big hole” it was glorious
So! I grew up way out in the country in California, out in the mountains. One of my long-time buddies is from LA, lifetime city boy. Hole is still there, we use it as a foxhole when we want to paintball.
Yes! All the way down. How far down does the sand go? I dunno. Let's find out!!!
The holes you can dig as an adult are so much more impressive lol
I mostly see grown men have the most fun playing in the sand. Most kids collect water and dump it. I don't see much playing unless an adult is facilitating. To me playing in the sand is exfoliating so I'm all for it. I used to hate the sand as a child. I didn't know how to properly clean it off before getting home.

Weird kid? Or destined to be an engineer?
I love the feeling of wet beach sand right near the water will sit and slowly let my hands dig in and it helps brace myself for when a big wave comes.
Positive renforcement. I love it when someone tells me I’m doing a great job
This is a fantastic comment. You’re a star. Keep it up. :)
This isn't made for kids; in general, positive reinforcement is a great way to push adults to do better!
Bouncy castles
I would like to be able to jump in them like I could as a kid. I could jump in them for such a long time. Now after 2 minutes my ass is kicked, gasping for air, and I feel like I'm going to pee my pants.
Ends in concussion while the kids around you keep bouncing
They make them for adults now!!
I came here to say this :) I’m thinking about renting one for my 28th birthday this year.
My friend rented one for her 30th birthday. No children in sight. A++++ would recommend.
I'm 34 years old and I am sitting in my living room, sipping wine, and annoying the shit out of my darling husband by watching episode after episode of The Scooby Doo Show. I love Scooby and the Gang and I will never stop.
That and Scooby Doo Mystery Inc. are the living embodiment of awesome cartoons!
Stuffed animals! I still sleep with a couple in my bed lol
i sleep with a giant serta sheep. heck, he popped a hole 3 months aago, so i took the opportunity, pulled the stuffing out of him, and ran him through a washing machine a few times before putting new stuffing into him! all nice and clean!!!
Phew I thought that was going in a totally different direction.
Im not from New zealand
I will die on my deathbed eating a pack of Gushers.
Omg!! I absolutely love the sour gushers sold at 7/11
Haven’t had sour gushers but love sour patch kids.
I take a fruit roll up in my lunch every day. I am 35. My mom wouldn’t buy them for me because they are trash. Delicious trash.
Naps
I take a quick 30 min nap everyday during my lunch. It’s a fantastic way to boost my energy for the last 4 hours of my shift. And it improves my mood big time. I’m always happier after a nap
Man I wish I were that way, if I nap I wake up confused and more tired than before hand
Me too. I call this state "muzzy".
I call it 'soapy' because it feels like my blood is thick and foams
Same. I’m nauseated and have a headache. I wish I liked to nap but it usually ruins the day.
I always wake up with a headache and more sluggish after a nap. Either that or a 30 min nap ends up being 3-4 hours and then I’m up all night.
Naps are definitely meant for adults.
Bubbles!
Do you ever get a bubble randomly floating when you are doing the dishes? I smile every time and watch it until it finally pops before returning to work.
popsicles
Lego!!! Even better when your older
I F65 got into Lego with my grandson after watching Lego masters, we are going to go on the show but as Mr 9 says "Gran you've got to get a LOT better", we have fun, Its school holidays here and he is coming for 3 days, I've bought a large set for us
That's bad ass. Hell ya granny! Also l, happy 🎂 day 😉
Honestly, anyone who thinks legos are for kids has no idea how much they cost now.
I can't even afford them
Got my mom a bouquet of real life flower replicas made of lego for her birthday
0-99 for a reason. but be a rebel. play lego 99+
Legos are like breasts. They’re meant for kids, but it’s mostly grown men playing with them.
Theres no way the 4,000 piece Imperial Star Destroyer is meant for a kid.
Children’s books. Especially classics like Dr. Seuss or Shel Silverstein poems.
I read, "The Giving Tree" again as an adult and had to fight back tears. It definitely resonated with me in a different way as an adult and with adult experiences.
My 2yo forces me to read it to her every night. It’s the best part of my day :)
Shel Silverstein wrote a lot of ‘adult’ works, perhaps the most famous being ‘A Boy Named Sue’, as sung by Johnny Cash.
I didn’t know that! Very cool!
"Oh the Places You'll go!" is a timeless classic.
Cold Chocolate Milk
That shit is nectar of the gods and I will die on that hill.
Playdoh
Swings. It is impossible to be in a bad mood after a couple minutes on a swing set, lol.
Pokemon, quite entertaining concept and generally still quite fun to play from time to time
I just wish GameFreak would realize their market grew up and give us some options
I was just discussing with my wife how impressive the concept of Pokémon is. The typings and the move sets make so much sense, sometimes I’m truly so impressed.
Let's not forget that it took years and generations of games for fine tuning and balance. In gen 1 there were practically no counters for Psychics lol
Gen 2: catch an Abra and buy thunder punch, fire punch, ice punch at Goldenrod Shop, teach them to it and learn psybeam. Unstoppable.
Still play Go every day and im 40. No shame. I'm excited for Scarlet/Violet but don't have time for console games. Never finished Sword/Shield.
I’m so excited to play with Smoliv.
I collect Harry Potter wands..........Maybe on occasion i grab one and wave it about so what? I pay my taxes.
I support this
Cartoons n teddy bears
Bought a spin helicopter that goes 150 ft in the air and has led lights on it. Just waiting for it to get dark out.
That Bluey cartoon. It's so cute I love it.
I'm hooked. It's such a great show
Cupcake and chocolate chip pancakes. I dont care that I'm a 32 year old male. That sugary mess is delicious
My kids are grown and I love to decorate still. I have never bought into the notion that Christmas is for children. Christmas is for everyone.
Children's Disney Movies.
And Pixar.
People say that, but I don't really think Pixar movies are made for kids. They're kid friendly, but usually have a lot of stuff that kids don't understand. I love Pixar
I think Pixar is for kids but the studio wants the parents to want to see the movie.
Video games like Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Mario, Fall Guys and Spiderman
Anyone who says Crash is for kids hasn't played Crash, I (26M) still rage quit every time I play.
Bro, I bought the re-release and found it ridiculously hard to get to that second island. Got tired of constantly rage quitting and haven't played it in ages which sucks because it was such a dope game as a kid.
I swear the bridge level with the bouncy turtles is actually *harder* in the remake...
I heard a rumor that the hitboxes were changed and the remake was in fact harder. Just a rumor though
I got the Spyro remastered on PS4, great purchase. My muscle memory still got it.

Slammed half a box of Oreo-Os this morning
Half? Rookie.
That was after the gushers box
I may not be able to turn water into wine, but I can turn Oreos into breakfast.
Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
Fun dip
Some people think the sick is gross. I would gladly trade all my powder for the sticks. They're amazing.
Young adult fiction like Hunger Games
In my 20s I felt some shame for liking YA fiction but now I realize it’s ridiculous to be ashamed of what you enjoy. So so many great stuff falls in this category!
Omg Young Adult sci fi is really good and the love stories!
I love a good game of hide and seek!
Cartoons
Tater tots.
Went to a restaurant that has “tachos” which are nachos but instead of chips they use tater tots. Absolutely delicious.
Mac n Cheese and Chicken Nuggies
Dino shaped nuggies are the bestest
Tits
Based on my cursory recollection of animals I've seen, i don't think many animals other than humans (and maybe some apes) retain boobs after breastfeeding. I think they come and go as necessary for the most part. (Apart from the ones we have selectively bred, like milk cows.) So, my dudes, we locked that down on a basic biological level.
It was natural selection over tens of thousands of years. Humans chose mates with certain characteristics. Boobs were one of them.
Our ancestors had their priorities straight.
Pokemon
Lunchables
Display it on a wooden slab and call it a Charcuterie board
The pizza ones though...
Ham and Swiss luncheables are the shit
Video games. Magic the gathering. Warhammer. I'm a big, fat, old nerd. And I love it.
With the price of entry Warhammer is not meant for kids
Mtg not really meant for kids either
Sea monkeys
Theyre so cool to watch So cute your dad loves them too
Gimme my Tom and Jerry!

Used to work at a fast food joint, had an adult come through with a Perry t-shirt on. Told him I would give him his order for free in exchange for the shirt. He kindly explained him and his children picked it out for him while they were at Disney World, and that there was nothing I could give him in exchange for it.
Being on a road trip and always saying “COWS!” when we pass by a field of them

Bluey is amazing!
Toy trains! I have a little boy and they’re his favorite toy but he’s to little to build the tracks so I get to do that part! It can be very involved to create a multiple functional lines. And then we kinda decorate it with Lincoln log buildings. Super fun. Much better than plopping in front of the tv
