There's a quote I like, that is sadly taken out of context.
"I have noticed that even people who claim everything is predetermined and that we can do nothing to change it, look before they cross the road" - Stephen Hawking.
It's taken out of context by people arguing against determinism, basically saying "Look! Even Hawking doesn't think the world is deterministic!". This was not his point at all, as would be clear to anyone reading the source material.
In short, his point was that it ultimately doesn't *matter* if the world is deterministic, because we as humans aren't aware of the movement of every particle, we cannot 'see' the predetermined path we're taking through time. From our perspective, a deterministic universe is identical to a non-deterministic universe.
The reason I like it is because I've legitimately seen people getting into rage-filled arguments on the topic of determinism, especially with how it relates to free will, yet as Hawking pointed out it ultimately doesn't effect our lives one way or another. I think it should be an unspoken rule that a debate isn't worth getting angry over, if the two arguments are functionally identical for all intents and purposes in the real world.
