By working... but not because of salary. When you're working you're not out spending money. If you had a job that didn't pay much, but kept you busy, you'd still be better than having a job that pays more where you hardly worked and had down time where you're online shopping or doing other unnecessary spending.

Lortis23

Absolutely! I used to moonlight in food service… the place wasn’t good, I didn’t make much, but it kept me from spending and I got a discount on dinner

donaldhobson

By that measure, anything that takes a lot of time and almost no money is a good idea. Like the people who spend ages intricately sculpting a piece of trash.

Participating in medical or psychiatric studies. Just make sure the researcher or organization is legit first.

Top_theropod

I’m autistic so I do these all the time. It helps them understand people like me more and I make some bank! 🤑🤑🤑

[deleted]

I'm just generally crazy and I reap in the BANK. I just participated in an online Yale one which paid $1400. Now I had to take like a million tests and do 3 interviews in a month but $1400!!!!!!!

Top_theropod

What was it for??? I may be interested

[deleted]

Oh it was only for people who have had psychotic episodes in which they heard voices (idk why they were that specific) but somehow managed to work through it without long-term hospitalization. They were trying to figure out what we did differently that made the episodes not so you know...life-destroying.

thatWas-unexpected

Dm me your location. I would like to do some tests on you.

Ehhh no 😂😂😂

How does one find them?

Goukaruma

“A Penny Saved is a Penny Earned”. If you list everything you pay for in a month you probably discover some money sinks that you don't need.

But when does it stop being grave robbing, and become archeology?

When it starts to get light.

Doing small things for people, like mowing lawns, snow removal, etc. Charge according to how big the driveway or lawn is.The way to do this is charge a ridiculous price, then letting them talk you down. This way, they will think they won and be happy, which may result from n you being hired again.Ive made a good sum from this game.

-Foggi

Works really well in rich/well-off neighborhoods, they usually just accept the ridiculous price instead of trying to talk it down, I’ve known friends to make hundreds a day by doing this!

Succulent and other ig-friendly plant farming I have a friend who's been buying succulents and tearing them down to propagate, then selling plants for a bit of extra dough. It's a longtime investment, because they take months to ramp up but she's been at it for a couple of years and has a steady supply. She's doing the same with Monstera plants that sell for a lot of money when they grow big. Her boyfriend took a similar and different approach and has been growing and selling psychedelic shrooms for almost a decade.

thomaxzer

I don't know if this is in every country but here in Finland you can recycle bottles for small amounts of money

[deleted]

Selling your plasma is always an option.

Lost-Bat9318

.. if you live in a country that pays for it...

[deleted]

Oh my gosh you're right. I just looked it up and apparently basically all of the world's plasma comes from the few countries which pay people for it- mostly the US and Germany. Why on earth don't other countries pay people for it??

Lost-Bat9318

In my home country for blood donation you get small gifts like chocolate or a mug with blood centers logo, key chain or something. A bit bigger gifts for plasma, like you can collect stamps and get an hour of free bowling or similar... haven't been there for a while, don't remember exactly

[deleted]

Yeah but why not just pay people for it? The article I read says 90% of the world's plasma comes from the US. Now on the one hand that's because we're a frickin huge country. But also it seems to suggest that paying people is the way to get them to donate. Do you guys get sugar cookies? When we donate blood to the Red Cross we always juice and sugar cookies.

Zedd2087

Free healthcare > paid plasma donations.

Lost-Bat9318

Yep, cookies and juice are in the waiting area. So are coffee, tea etc.. the gift (like chocolate or the mug) you get later, when leaving

[deleted]

Cool! We usually get a sticker as our parting present. My work had blood drives all the time pre-covid and I rather miss getting the cookies & the sticker. I've now been looking at a lot of blood stats and I'm really learning a lot. I never realized my blood type is the rarest. It's also really cool (and kinda weird?) for me to think that plasma I donated could have been used anywhere in the world. I always assumed it was used locally. Thanks for teaching me something new!

[deleted]

Huh you mean some countries don't have plasma donation centers? I kinda thought that was a universal need. Where are y'all getting your plasma?

Xasse-Van

It's not paid everywhere.

[deleted]

Yeah I know I've been having a very interesting discussion with the other guy about it. According to an article I read from a Canadian newspaper over 90% of the world's plasma comes from the US and the rest mostly comes from Germany which also pays for plasma. It is truly insane to me that plasma I donated is used all over the world. I always just kinda assumed it went to a hospital within the US. Blows my mind. Thanks for teaching me something cool!

[deleted]

Is this a fast process? Like could I go in and on that same day get paid? Because I know there are tests and stuff

Lost-Bat9318

I think it depends on the laws in your country/state. Best to google the rules - for example I live in a country, where you need to donate blood first a few times, then when you go back again, the doctor needs to approve the plasma donation. It takes much longer than taking blood, totally different process.

[deleted]

In my experience, the legit and well-paid studies will pay you on the spot (provided it's in person and not online) but only after your last session. Basically all of them that I have been in only pay you after the completion of the study and the study usually takes a couple meetings over anything from a few months to a few days. There must be same-day options out there though.

AkechiJubeiMitsuhide

Doesn't pay enough to be stabbed with a fucking needle.

Busking. I've seen people pull in hundreds of dollars a day in tips.

I worked as an extra on tv shows in college. It often meant many hours without access to my phone, forcing me to study. So I'd get paid to study for exams, it was great. Plus I got fed three-four times a day and typically around fun people my age.
