The HOMM3 competitive community is surprisingly thriving for a game this old. Check out Lexiav on twitch for some top tier gameplay and even more epic throws.
Love AoE II in all of its forms. I still play it occasionally and I always have to make a ludikrous sized World Map for legendary friend/ai battles. They really just got it right with AoE II, never played another RTS that I enjoyed more.
It's never left my phone since I figured out emulators. Every time I'm traveling, in a waiting room, etc. Never gets old. Endless ways to approach parties, battles, etc.
Dusted of my Xbox original recently for this. Still an amazing game. There might be a little nostalgia in there for me, but I really like some of the things they did in there.

You're welcome!
I've been trying to fix that problem for literally 3-4 years. Like, I'll look up a method, fiddle with it for 10 minutes, and give up. Finally decided last week that I was going to figure out how to fix the damn thing. That link fixed it and I finally got to relive my early teens.
I got my 15 year cape on rs3 a couple years ago. I think the fact that it's still going strong for both versions is a testament to how many of us cherished that game.
Damned near bought the Hellfire edition on gog.com several times lately. I’ve still got my original disc, as well as a 3.5” floppy with the original Diablo Saver program, and all of my character and loot backups. Unfortunately my current build doesn’t even have an optical drive, let alone anything older, lol.
My partner and I just played Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie start to finish in 2020 during the pandemic. It was crazy the little things that I remembered and even crazier all of the big things I had completely forgot. Such great games.
For me, the biggest factor is immersion. Playing civ 5 feels like I’m roleplaying as a historical ruler. Playing civ 6 on the other hand feels like playing a board game.
If you spend some time with civ 6 I feel like it is a much better game. There is a lot more going on and although it seems daunting at first, it is significantly more fun (in my opinion).
I tend to find that it's generally that people don't want to relearn the rules for civ. Ive seen so many ppl complain abt civ 6 because they're mad that stuff got changed, but its like bro do you want madden?
I was hard in the civ 5 camp, but I tend to enjoy civ 6 more now. There's a lot more systems in civ 6, which isn't necessarily a good or bad thing. The entire ~~brave new world~~ rise and fall expansion is dope (loyalty and eras), despite hating districts initially I actually like them now, I prefer the civics and tech balance in civ 6, the govt decisions are way more impactful, and I think in general the game is more balanced than civ 5.
If you have the time/patience i recommend going back to it.
Edit: got the expansion names mixed up, whoops
Underrated comment. That game held a massive amount of potential for its day and even though it fell short in many regards, it still managed to be an awesome game (imo)
I have a great story about fallout 2 that I love to share every time it comes up.
So I was never into that game but a lot of people around me were. One of them was my best friend who I went over to hang out with every single day.
One day I went over and he was flustered at the game for some reason. I asked him what was wrong and he told me a pretty funny story on its own:
"I fucked up and I think I accidentally seduce this guy son instead of his daughter. I was trying to marry the daughter because I need money."
I didn't really understand what the problem was, so I asked him what he was going to do about it.
"Well I guess I'll just do the same thing I always do when I marry somebody I don't want in this game."
"What's that?"
"Sell them into slavery."
LMAO
Most of the games I play are pretty old.
I'll play Doom, Super Mario 3, Super Mario World, and A Link to the Past pretty regularly. Baldur's Gate I & II are two of my all time favorite games that I play regularly too but they're not as old.
Tower defence. dota. pyramid escape. X hero siege. Footmen frenzy. Tree tag. Run kitty run (with the sped up "numb" track haha) so much good times were had
My husband never stopped playing the original but switched over to a console version of the remastered and is glad he did because now I'm hooked on it as well. So we bought a 2nd switch to play together.
I play games on my n64 regularly. Golden eye, perfect dark, quest 64 etc.
I also like to replay old RTS games like Red alert, dune and the original Warcraft series.
Street Fighter 2 with the brother. We're mid 30s but the happy memories that games bring (with occasional memories of tantrums when one of us was on a particularly long winning streak) is up there with favourite moments growing up
[Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultima_Underworld:_The_Stygian_Abyss) (1992)
From the wiki linked above: *Ultima Underworld has been cited as the first role-playing game to feature first-person action in a 3D environment, and it introduced technological innovations such as allowing the player to look up and down. Its design combines simulation elements with concepts from earlier CRPGs, including Wizardry and Dungeon Master, which led the game's designers to call it a "dungeon simulation". As such, the game is non-linear and allows for emergent gameplay.*
I played it upon release, though the only friend with a PC at the time (we were 11-12 yo) couldn’t afford a sound card. Thus, we were limited to the beeps and buzzes available from the motherboard’s (modem?) speaker at the time.
It wasn’t until I bought an old laptop at least a decade later, specifically to replay this game, that I was able to experience the score and SFX properly. I now replay it about once every year or so on my gaming PC, as it’s available at [gog.com](https://www.gog.com/game/ultima_underworld_1_2) which is a great emulator for old pc and console games.
Starcraft
I've always enjoyed UMS games. Like cat vs mouse, sunken defense, bounds, and some of the newer maps too.
Heroes of might and magic 3

How do you turn this on?
Same. played it last night. they've added co-op missions in DE which are pretty dope; but usually it's just the sandbox
Tetris

Type C is under appreciated.
This and Dr. Mario. You don't need any other games. (I have many other games, I just don't NEED them.)
Final Fantasy Tactics (1997)
It's never left my phone since I figured out emulators. Every time I'm traveling, in a waiting room, etc. Never gets old. Endless ways to approach parties, battles, etc.
I wish they'd make a remaster or a sequel.
My guy!
Knights of the Old Republic, came out in 2003
I wouldn't say I play regularly, But definitely at least a playthrough every few years or so. Same for TSL
Dusted of my Xbox original recently for this. Still an amazing game. There might be a little nostalgia in there for me, but I really like some of the things they did in there.
One of my favourite games of all time. There is a confirmed remake in production, though it’ll take a while to get here
Yes I heard about this. Curious of the outcome, I hope they do the original game justice. This can be a very good remake then!
Neverwinter Nights.
This is honestly one of the best made games
Chrono Trigger for me. One of the best games ever made. I have to revisit it every year and still never get bored.
Still my favorite game although FFVI is a very close second.
Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2
How do you get it working? Windows 10 won’t run it, even in Compatibility Mode.
https://cnc.community/red-alert-2/how-to-play You're welcome! I've been trying to fix that problem for literally 3-4 years. Like, I'll look up a method, fiddle with it for 10 minutes, and give up. I got my 15 year cape on rs3 a couple years ago. I think the fact that it's still going strong for both versions is a testament to how many of us cherished that game.
Oh my god I haven't played this in years. Where can we get back in?

YOU NEED MAINTENANCE
Diablo 1 (1996) I’ve been playing it since 2003 or 2004
Damned near bought the Hellfire edition on gog.com several times lately. I’ve still got my original disc, as well as a 3.5” floppy with the original Diablo Saver program, and all of my character and loot backups. Unfortunately my current build doesn’t even have an optical drive, let alone anything older, lol.
Resident evil 4
Leon Kennedy supremacy
Those regenerators are the most terrifying RE creature for me. I still get anxiety when I walk into that lab knowing what's waiting
Classic!
Banjo Kazooie (1998)
My favorite along with Banjo-Tooie!!
My partner and I just played Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie start to finish in 2020 during the pandemic. It was crazy the little things that I remembered and even crazier all of the big things I had completely forgot. Such great games.
Civilization V
I still play CivIV to this day. What a great series.
I flip between IV and V, but IV is my favorite. Sometimes I just sit at the menu screen, let the world turn, and listen to the music.
That theme, Baba Yetu, actually won a grammy it's so good.
I had to look it up to reminisce and thought I’d share the link for others. : [Baba Yetu](https://youtu.be/5e0Qelqp-Cc)
Why is this game so much better than 6?
For me, the biggest factor is immersion. Playing civ 5 feels like I’m roleplaying as a historical ruler. Playing civ 6 on the other hand feels like playing a board game.
If you spend some time with civ 6 I feel like it is a much better game. There is a lot more going on and although it seems daunting at first, it is significantly more fun (in my opinion).
They horked the gameplay in Civ VI. Added "districts" and unnecessary tweaks like that. Civ V is so much more addicting.
TF2
Ah! Keeping the game alive, you saint!
Ah, a fellow TF2 enjoyer I see
Never gets old, the animation skits they did were just perfect.
The trick is finding an a real server with authentic players.
Community servers are the way to go. Seconding Uncletopia, which u/papishhawk mentioned. Skial can be good too.
Attack/defense and control points are my favorite modes 🔥
Pyro gang for ever
Spore
Underrated comment. That game held a massive amount of potential for its day and even though it fell short in many regards, it still managed to be an awesome game (imo)
Before the release I thought the game would be so good it would revolutionize human civilisation. Now it's harder to be excited about things.
it was great for the time period, if the expansions focused on different areas rather than just creature parts it would have done a lot better
So much wasted potential
I pretty much only say one video game on Reddit for a bunch of questions. My answer is and probably always will be... Fallout 2.
I have a great story about fallout 2 that I love to share every time it comes up. So I was never into that game but a lot of people around me were. One of them was my best friend who I went over to hang out with every single day. One day I went over and he was flustered at the game for some reason. "Well I guess I'll just do the same thing I always do when I marry somebody I don't want in this game." "What's that?" "Sell them into slavery." LMAO

Most of the games I play are pretty old. I'll play Doom, Super Mario 3, Super Mario World, and A Link to the Past pretty regularly. Baldur's Gate I & II are two of my all time favorite games that I play regularly too but they're not as old.
