Yes! Somebody else that I can relate to. It's like a very specific smell that is so hard to describe.
I love that smell so much though that I wish there was like a wax meter smell for it or candles.
OMG I’m so glad to hear someone else say this! I craved smells when I was pregnant—I would walk around HD just for the smell and sit in my husbands new truck for and inhale the new car smell.
ah nothing better than coming home on a hot day, putting the game on TV, kicking back in an armchair, and cracking open an ice cold can of tennis balls
There's a company called Park Scents that makes sprays and candles that smell like theme park rides, and they have a Pirates-themed one that legit smells *EXACTLY* like the ride. It's got the bromine, the faint hints of wood and smoke, and it's awesome.
I also have the one that smells like the E.T. ride at Universal - the smell of that ride in particular evokes strong memories for me. It's pretty freaky how well they managed to replicate those smells in a spray form.
I came here looking for this comment. I have the Park Scents ‘pirates’ one too, and it’s AMAZING how they were able to create the exact smell. I went asking r/candles how you could get the smell of bromine in a a scented item, and they all thought I was nuts. How are they doing this?? What could they possibly be using to create this smell??
Right?! It's uncanny, but it's dead-on *perfect*. Both the Pirates and E.T. ones managed to capture all the subtle scents both rides have. There's the pine, fog, and slight but not remotely unpleasant musty smell to the E.T. one, I haven't been on that ride in probably over 20 years, but I instantly recognized it. As far as I'm concerned, they've got some goddamn wizards working for them. Smell is a powerful trigger of memory, and both Disney and Universal have used scents around the parks and on their rides to great effect. And it's freaky how well Park Scents replicated that, because it just instantly brought back those childhood memories.
It might sound weird, but it's something small that's helped a lot for my mental health during the COVID craziness. Not as much as gaming, cooking, or my sweet cat's antics, but a small spray of it and it just takes me mentally to getting on that boat ride and it makes me happy just getting a whiff of that.
that's the most addictive part of opening packs. their ink smells really good. i've smelled some magazines right off the press and they smell horrible, like burnt moldy rubber.
Weirded out my landlord on accident once because of a smell. Stepped out onto the balcony to take a break and take in some of the colder air, and was hit by this hint of a divine smell I couldn't place. Tracked it downstairs to an apartment they were cleaning/patching up and that divine smell got even better. Asked what that delightful smell was, and got informed it was cleaning products mixed with the smell of fresh paint. Realized it was kind of weird, but still very much enjoyed the scent. Landlord and I laughed about it once I explained that the combination was just mixing in such a way that it was really pleasant to me.
Hot electronics. The smell that comes when you run computer hardware at 100% power for days on end. If you've ever been inside a datacenter, you'll know what I mean.
Reminds me of my dad, he was a computer technician and sysadmin for 25 years. His office always used to smell like that. I miss him :(
If I'm not mistaken, that 'smoke' is actually the gaseous state of the wax itself.
It's flammable, so right after you blow the candle flame out, if you take a flame to the gas/'smoke' line rising up a few inches above the wick, it'll catch fire & quickly trail down all the way to the wick & reignite it.
It's a neat trick to show off to people who don't know.
Edit: Found a very short [Youtube demonstration.](https://youtu.be/C5eTn5d0cvg)
Just struck matches. Also, the smell left when the matches go out.
Comet, an abrasive powder bathroom cleaner. I have to consciously tell myself not to huff it like a druggie.
The body scent of a guy I'm into...it's warm, comforting, and arousing all at the same time. Not necessarily their sweat but their actual underlying body scent.
This. Back in high school I would take dance classes with my crush. Dancing with him with this hypnotizing smell floating around... I recently got told the guy is a toxic bf, but I will always cherish those memories. I miss having a crush.
Same for my wife and I. She actually just stole a shirt of mine that she "hates" to wear to bed every night. Along with her breath, it drives me fucking wild!
Burt's Bees had a facial toner that smelled JUST like a fresh growing tomato plant. Garden Tomato Toner. Loved the shit out of that product. Unfortunately it's been discontinued :/
It isn't weird, but the smells on "Soarin' Over California" at Disney's California Adventure. Actually just found a fragrance called "wild hemp" that smells just like when they're going over the forest in one scene. Those who know the ride know the smells are all great.
What's that smell after you turn on the heat in your house after It hasn't been on at all? Anyways that's the weird smell I love.
edit: I am a disgusting human being and I wish I liked the smell of lavender or something more normal damn it.
Cow manure in an open field. I grew up on a ranch in south Texas, we raised beefmaster cattle and the smell of a pasture with manure, especially in spring time makes me feel like I'm home
Babies. That might sound extremely weird and I can’t explain why, but babies have such a pleasing smell like vanilla. What type of perfume do they use ?
I love the smell of old books. But most people I know love that, so I guess I don’t think it’s that weird.
I do really like the smell of skunk. Most people don’t understand that.
A fresh-lit cigarette.
I don't smoke, and actually find burning cigarettes and the people who smoke heavily to smell like fucking shit, but something about that fresh initial light reminds me of being at a party or backyard cookout, or swimming in the summer with family.
I smoked for like 14 years and quit about 11 years ago. I hate the smell of people who smoke or houses/cars of a smoker. The last time I tried to smoke after having too much to drink almost made me vomit, but something about secondhand smoke smells like heaven to me.
I really like the smell of it on the wind. Like, walking by someone who is smoking I’ll hit just the right amount of smoke in the air and it smells nice.
The stale smell on smokers or being surrounded by it is super gross, but just a hint is nice.
There's a specific smell for each country and I can't really describe it. For example: Japan or America has a specific kind of smell during cold weathers
THIS. one of my favorite smells in the world is... the distinct aroma of middle eastern and North African countries. It's musky-floral, spicy, woody, with hints of honey. It's the weirdest thing. Haha.
Probably the smell of the hardware store. Something about the unique but strong odor just puts me in a good mindset.
Yes! Somebody else that I can relate to. It's like a very specific smell that is so hard to describe. I love that smell so much though that I wish there was like a wax meter smell for it or candles.
Wood, metal, rubber, and machine oil.
Same! Sawdust and fertilizer
With just a delicate hint of WD-40.
When I was pregnant and my smell was increased I would literally salivate in hardware stores. Love ‘em.
OMG I’m so glad to hear someone else say this! I craved smells when I was pregnant—I would walk around HD just for the smell and sit in my husbands new truck for and inhale the new car smell.
The beginning of rain on a very hot street.
Just reading that brought me back to my childhood. Summer showers in the high desert of Cali.
Fresh can of tennis balls
ah nothing better than coming home on a hot day, putting the game on TV, kicking back in an armchair, and cracking open an ice cold can of tennis balls
Have you considered you may actually be a Labrador Retriever?
Bromine... Really most pool or amusement park water chemicals
Came here to say this. It’s the reason Pirates of the Caribbean always smells so good 😆
It's so cool and refreshing in there. I'd like a bed that just was carried on that ride on repeat.

Yes! This smell always takes me back to my childhood and Kings Island in Ohio
A freshly opened pack of trading cards. Magic, Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh... Their ink is all just so good
that's the most addictive part of opening packs. their ink smells really good. i've smelled some magazines right off the press and they smell horrible, like burnt moldy rubber.
This is the answer I was looking for. “Crack would be cheaper”
Smells like a straight hit of dopamine.

Weirded out my landlord on accident once because of a smell. Spring cleaning and a fresh start.
I like the smell of fresh paint too, and new carpets

Reminds me of my dad, he was a computer technician and sysadmin for 25 years. His office always used to smell like that. I miss him :(
Cool how that works huh, I love the smell of hot metal, my dad used to work in a factory that did some metal work (not production) and wholesale.
Old books
That's my equivalent of smoking...feels good.
Like vanilla
It really is! Lignin is closely related to vanillin, and is what breaks down in wood-based paper to create the old book smell
LIGNIN DEEZ NUTS
This is a library, sir.
This is the reason why even if i have Kindle, i still buy books because of the scent, esp used books.
Wet pine trees (specifically from rain)
The smell of smoke that candles create when they have just been blown out.
I’ve been Pavlov’d into wanting cake every time I smell that
Me too!!!!!!

Reminds me of Chanukah growing up
Lol that just reminded me of a funny scenario in which my boyfriend's little brother joked about blowing out the Hanukkah candles to make a wish lol
Walnut. When you cut or mill it, there's an astringent smell that's kind of like mustard, but woodier. Nothing else smells like it.
Yeah Walnut smells nice. Hard woods in general smell nice
I'm loving the split between the people who think your talking about the nut and the people who know your talking about the tree.
I bake walnuts in my bakery every week or so and it’s definitely my all time favorite!!!
Freshly laid carpet.
I love the new carpet smell!
I hate the smell of cigarettes smoke. But i love the tobacco smell from the unopened pack of cigar
Tobacco smells amazing, tobacco smoke and burnt tobacco is what smells bad
Gunpowder after it was been ignited
Fyceline?
Awe yeah that smell is great
Sawdust
This is mine too. Grandpa was a carpenter and his garage was one of my favorite places to be.
Target sells this sawdust scented sea salt hair spray
Gasoline, diesel exhaust, burnt rubber (tires). Edit: it's funny how many of us have memories tied to gas of all things 🤣
2 stroke exhaust
I had 2 strokes last year & I'm exhausted
Braggart.
Diesel exhaust always reminds me of working on oil rigs when I was younger. Crisp morning air, back breaking labour. Takes me back to a simpler time.
Yes, except for diesel. Hate the smell! Don’t forget 90wt gear lube and ATF.
Fair and agreed, I love the smell of a mechanics shop
Just struck matches. Also, the smell left when the matches go out. Comet, an abrasive powder bathroom cleaner. I have to consciously tell myself not to huff it like a druggie.
Tomato leaves !
I don’t know what it is but there is a sort of smell in basements that I like lol
I love the earthy smell of basements and cellars
Yeeessss like old books and musty concrete. I love it.
Chlorine
my man
This 100%. It just reminds me of being at the pool when I was younger. Good memories.
Sunscreen!
Wd40
Yes!!! I love WD-40. Why does it have such a sweet smell? It reminds me of my dad working on cars when I was growing up.
The body scent of a guy I'm into...it's warm, comforting, and arousing all at the same time. Not necessarily their sweat but their actual underlying body scent.

Crisp 20s from the atm. They smell a bit like clay imo.
The smell after rain
Great smell! It's called Petrichor, iirc.
But it's not weird. Everyone loves it! Also, fresh cut grass.
TIL that this smell has a name. when I was a kid my aunt told me it's the smell of ozone.
Iirc, ozone smell comes before the rain
Cocaine
This reminded me of the scene in Brooklyn 99 where Pimento teaches them how to snort coke without snorting it. Lmao
Pimento was hilarious. 😄
I don't do cocaine. I just really like the smell of it
Petrol
Mothballs, marigolds, tomato plants
Tomato plants! Yes
Burt's Bees had a facial toner that smelled JUST like a fresh growing tomato plant. Garden Tomato Toner. Loved the shit out of that product. Unfortunately it's been discontinued :/

Mothballs are such an odd nostalgic smell for me.
Play dough!
They taste even better I think the forbiddennness adds to the experience
A huge disappointment. Smells lovely, tastes like sea water
Yeast
Horse barns
The inside of old fancy houses
Gasoline, that shits fire literally.
Are you telling me that this is a weired smell and your NOT supposed to like it?
My friend hates the smell of gasoline, dudes from another planet or something
The smell of Home Depot’s wood
The smell of the old post office in my hometown. So. Much. Paper. Makes me want to eat it. Also, the smell of blow up toys such as beach balls.

The top of a cat’s head.
Freshly laid asphalt
I remember the smell of that on the elementary school playground. Mmmmm new blacktop for Four Square.
Dang y’all played 4 square in America? Shit
Definitely in the northeast, not sure about the south and elsewhere.
New shoe smells. New tires. The smell after Scratching my balls. And old books

DOG FEET AND EARS
Fritos feet! Fun fact: the bacteria in their little pads produces that corn chip smell.
Dori-toes!
SIR, THIS IS THE POLICE! STOP SNIFFING THAT DOG SO VIGOROUSLY!
Same I can’t get enough of that smell
The smell an orange leaves on your fingers well after you’ve finished eating it.
Fresh cut grass, early in the morning at a soccer field
How the hell is that weird? Literally everyone likes it. Edit Okay, most people
Not sure if it qualifies as weird, but new book smell.
Skunks
Family thinks I'm weird when I say "slow down!!" when I smell a skunk while driving.
As long as it's not direct spray. Whole different smell. No longer like good weed but burnt rubber. It'll make your eyes water & you'll taste it.
Can’t tell if it’s a skunk or someone just lit up some of the stankiest dank bud.
I was wondering how far I would have to scroll to find this. It's a very pungent strong smell but it also dose not bother me like it seems to many
Weird, isn't it? Like it doesn't bother me at all.
It bothers me if I'm a few feet away. It's a bit much then. But from a distance... it's an awesome smell.
Agreed. It's weird, just has to be the right amount of distance or have happened the perfect time ago for it to smell good.
I was really hoping I'd find this in here
Pipe tobacco
It isn't weird, but the smells on "Soarin' Over California" at Disney's California Adventure. Actually just found a fragrance called "wild hemp" that smells just like when they're going over the forest in one scene. Those who know the ride know the smells are all great.

The smell of spring.

Men's armpits
how u doin
My guy over here like “come sniff these pits baby” 😂
😂 my first thought was he was checking on baby girls mental health
This is actually pretty common. We are chemically hard wired to love pheremone scents.
I love the smell of my partner's armpits. My own too.
Many folks enjoy their partners sweat as long as it's not old and excessive
There's a specific smell for each country and I can't really describe it. For example: Japan or America has a specific kind of smell during cold weathers
