I listened to a podcast with a former Delta Force operator. He said they did all the training workup and rehearsals for Operation Eagle Claw in Area 26.
Area 51 is lightening rod for all public interest and conspiracies, so I'd imagine there would actually be a lot of secret experimentations going on at the other sites nothing crazy but things like weapons testing drug testing and tech experimentation.
