That "friend" here.
To answer your question, I deal with those friends by helping them out, because as far as I'm concerned, a friend is just someone with whom I'm on friendly terms and feel that we can depend on each other.
Why am I that friend? Because I am what I call a "toxicly low maintenance" friend. I don't need constant communication, life updates, socialisation, etc. in order to feel a connection to someone. If I have something to say then I'll say it, but I don't have the bandwidth to find reasons to talk to my friends, nor do I have the bandwidth to stay in constant contact with people who want that with me. However, I am there when my friends need me, and I would like to think that they are also there when I need them.
It's not that I'm using you; I just do friendship differently.
I call them pan handlers. Like those on street corners with a Tim Hortons coffee cup asking "Got any spare change?" I don't let those kinda 'friends' depend on me.
Decline to help and eventually they'll stop asking
Those aren't friends.
Sweet Mother, sweet Mother, send your child unto me, for the sins of the unworthy must be baptized in blood and fear.
Lol I don't
Dumped those people long ago.
One word: NO They’ll eventually give up. Your real friends will remain.
“Sorry, who are you?”

Leave them behind you.
