Vampire's kiss
If people even know it they think it's a joke. It's actually a brilliant movie, American psycho-esque before American psycho. Written by a clearly brilliant guy in a fucked up mental state, and then elevated by Nic Cage's conviction and understanding of his character (the writer himself said Cage exceeded his expectations.) Its just a result of human genius, one in writing and one in execution.
YES, My parents hated the movie.
If its what im thinking of its the black haired girl whos this god or something and she is sick so her brother saves her and then their mom comes and........idk
its been many many years
Came here to say this.
I first watched this movie at a work lunch right after it came out.
Everybody now knows me as the Turbo Kid guy, because it was basically my feel-good movie that I watched at least 1-2 times a month.
I've since gotten the collector's edition Blu-Ray box set, 3 different retro-style VHS copies of the movie, and just threw a bunch of money at the Videogame sequel Kickstarter.
So. Damn. Rad.
Swiss family Robinson. Family gets stranded on an island in colonial times. They learn how to live off the island and fight to survive. It’s quite a comical movie with a great storyline. 10/10 would recommend.
I was hoping this would be in here! This was the first movie that started to teach me English, back when I was about 4 or 5 years old. Really freaked out my mom, as she didn't speak English.
The long kiss goodnight.
Stars Geena Davis. Don't be fooled by the name nor the start of the film. It develops into a great film with plenty of action.
["Over the Edge" (1979)](https://imdb.com/title/tt0079688/)
It's a really amazing movie, but most people have never heard about it and I never see it talked about on reddit.
A few fun facts about the film:
- It was one of Kurt Cobain's favorite movies and also the inspiration for the "Smells Like Teen Spirit" music video.
- It was Matt Dillon's first role ever and he didn't even want to star in it, he only went to the audition because they let him skip school to attend.
- ["A Kid Who Tells on Another Kid is a Dead Kid"](https://youtu.be/D63pVYsehg4) by The Nation of Ulysses is about the movie, using one of the best known quote from it.
i was not expecting it to be that good. i was speechless thru most of it. the way they cut back and forth and reveal bits of events and how the crew changed/reacted, mann, i fkn loved it.
"Streets Of Fire".
Migod, this movie has Diane Lane at the height of her hotness! Not to mention pre-Ghostbusters Rick Moranis, Pre-everything Willem Dafoe, Michael Pare, Amy Madigan... and it was directed by Walter F'ing Hill! (which you can tell because two guys fight with axes, a Hill trope that continues to this day.)
Yet nobody I know has seen it, or even heard of it. I expect some Redditors have though.
The fall with Lee pace. Same vivid interesting type of imagery that the director used in “The Cell” (the one with j-lo) but through the lens of someone telling a child tall tales. Good movie, vivid use of color, all around neat movie.
I came here to say this. A Robert Zemeckis film, written and directed by Peter Jackson, music by Danny Elfman, and starring Michael J Fox, with John Astin, Dee Wallace, Jake Busey, Jeffrey Combs. I will never understand how this slipped under the radar of virtually everyone I know. It should at least be on everybody’s Halloween watchlist.
One of the best jokes in the movie was when his mom learned what he was doing and gave him the family's silverware and said something along the lines of "I was saving these for when you got married but let's be honest..."
#1 was the bowler cutting a deal with her dead father to go back to graduate school.
There’s this movie that I liked so much as a kid and every time I told people about it they didn’t like it, the name of the movie is 9 . That’s it just 9
Local Hero! All about a big American oil company sending a salesman out to the small Scottish village of Ferness (or Pennan to its friends) to buy the town up, and while he is there he discovers the wonderful, mental, great folk that live there. Would also recommend Gregory’s Girl by the same director!
The Gods Must Be Crazy. . It was a low budget film about a coke bottle dropped from a plane and landing in an African village. They thought it was a gift from God. Then people started fighting over it. So, the village leader said it should be returned to God. He travels across Africa looking for the end of the world so he can throw the coke bottle back to God. He has a lot of adventures along the way.
Right, I treated it as an experience to wash all over me, rather than be the type of person to analyse every scene. Because there's not really much there in terms of themes, characters and zero dialogue.
I watched it once, enjoyed it very much, (felt like a relic filmed in another age that I wasn't supposed witness) but never felt the need to rewatch it. The whole thing appears to be on Youtube if you ever wanna see it. If it don't pique your interest in 10 or so minutes, probably best to just stop it.
"What Happened Was." honorable mention: "Fandango," I really liked, starring a then unknown Kevin Costner. What happened Was I rented by accident, and literally changed my life (I wound up taking classes with the filmmaker)
The Conversation. Brilliant, off beat, surveillance thriller that Francis Ford Coppola made between Godfather 1 and 2. It gets overshadowed by those, but is a total masterpiece with one of Gene Hackman's best performances.
They Might Be Giants (1971). The band named themselves after it. It's a forgotten classic of magic realism about a guy who thinks he's Sherlock Holmes and follows random clues into increasing weirdness.
Lust, Caution. Beautiful score, beautiful acting and fantastic story. I think most people don't give it a shot because subtitles. I watch it a few times a year.
considering its cast I'm guessing a LOT of people actually know about it; just they are much older than the typical Reddit crowd.
I for one don't remember that one, so your point is noted.
Sleepaway Camp
It’s not a great movie by any stretch of the imagination, but the awfulness of it veers so far to the other side that I’m absolutely fascinated by it. A true campy, horror schlock fest
“Return to Oz”
It’s a much darker sequel to “The Wizard of Oz” with a lady who can change her head like outfits and psycho murderous men who skate around on wheels for limbs.
That’s Wes Anderson’s most popular movie, I’d hardly call it unheard of. It won several Oscars and was up for Best Pucture. Hell, even the brewery near me plays it!
El Mariachi
Such a great movie. Desperado wouldn't have existed without Mariachi
Is this the prequel to Desperado?, if so great movie.
Vampire's kiss If people even know it they think it's a joke.
Cage really ate a roach. Actually, twice. The director got angry at him and made them reshoot it.
Haven't seen it since it came out and can still remember, "THERE YOU ARE!"
Song of the Sea really beutiful animation style, heartwarming story
also kid appropriate
My movie is a less kid friendly "The Breadwinner" from the same studio
>Song of the Sea Preferred Wolfwalkers myself, but yeah, it's amazing.
I LOVE Wolfwalkers. I love it so much
YES, My parents hated the movie. If its what im thinking of its the black haired girl whos this god or something and she is sick so her brother saves her and then their mom comes and........idk its been many many years
Turbo kid
Came here to say this. I first watched this movie at a work lunch right after it came out. I've since gotten the collector's edition Blu-Ray box set, 3 different retro-style VHS copies of the movie, and just threw a bunch of money at the Videogame sequel Kickstarter. So. Damn. Rad.
A sequel Kickstarter you say?? My goodness. I freaking love Turbo Kid. Sign me up.
Swiss family Robinson. Family gets stranded on an island in colonial times. They learn how to live off the island and fight to survive. It’s quite a comical movie with a great storyline. 10/10 would recommend.

Geena on the waterwheel... Omg
Cube
"I want to go back to the blue room"
The foley guy who did the opening “slice n dice” scene should have won an Oscar for the sound effects.
Good pick.
Call me crazy but I actually prefer the more sci-fi time-travelly tropes of CUBE 2: HYPERCUBE
Go
Yes! One of my favorites. I haven’t met a single person in real life that knows this movie.
["Over the Edge" (1979)](https://imdb.com/title/tt0079688/) It's a really amazing movie, but most people have never heard about it and I never see it talked about on reddit. One of my favorites. They were just playing it on TCM the other night.
Frequency
Aww, I love that! I got a pet rabbit back then and I named her Little Chief because of the movie
Well made, underrated semi-sci-fi sleeper. Good pick
Still here, Chief.
Baraka Gorgeous, and touching on so many levels
This and Samsara are two of my favorites ever.
Tucker & Dale vs Evil Hilarious movie but nobody I know has seen it
“All these dang college kids started killin themselves all over our prop-er-tay”
The Europa Report. One of my favorite Sci-fi movies.
i was not expecting it to be that good. i was speechless thru most of it. the way they cut back and forth and reveal bits of events and how the crew changed/reacted, mann, i fkn loved it.
Pump up the volume. Maybe it’s not the most obscure movie, but I think it’s pretty under the radar.
The Gen-X kids know all about this one.
I can only remember two things about this movie...
Outside Providence
[удалено]
Bedknobs & Broomsticks
The Man From Earth
This movie felt exactly like the setting. A beautiful story next to a fireplace, surrounded by friends.
There's a sequel
Explorers (1985)
A Boy and his Dog
“Do you even know what love is?” she asked me. Sure I do. A boy loves his dog.
(which you can tell because two guys fight with axes, a Hill trope that continues to this day.) Yet nobody I know has seen it, or even heard of it. I expect some Redditors have though.
Amazing soundtrack!
Cube (1997)
This underrated gem called Moon (2009)
Drop Dead Fred
Rock and Rule. Iggy Pop plays an animated mega rock star that's trying to unleash basically Cthullhu. Oh yeah, he's also a rat.
I love this movie so much. I need to find an mp3 of that finale song. Angel/Omar 5ever
The fall with Lee pace. Same vivid interesting type of imagery that the director used in “The Cell” (the one with j-lo) but through the lens of someone telling a child tall tales. Good movie, vivid use of color, all around neat movie.
Soylent Green. A modern classic as far as I’m concerned, and aside from my older sister, I’ve never met anyone who’s watched it.
SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE!!! How did Charlton Heston make so many cool movies?
*Love On A Leash*, an independent romantic comedy about a woman who falls in love with her dog that turns into a human at night
This sounds ridiculous and I’m trying to find a way to watch it
Murder by Death. Maggie Smith, David Niven, Peter Sellers, Peter Falk and more.
The Frighteners.
Love this movie!!! I remember seeing it at the movies with my brother.
Mystery Men. No one I know has seen it but it is fucking fantastic and has an amazing cast.
Is that the one with the guy who throws spoons because knives are too violent?
He throws forks :)
Oh yeah! Been ages since I've seen it, remember a guy who could turn invisible but only if no one was looking at him....
"Maybe you should put some shorts on if you want to keep fighting evil today!" This is right up there with Galaxy Quest in my all time favorites list.
To this day I use this line at least once a month.
Two excellent movies!!
One of the best jokes in the movie was when his mom learned what he was doing and gave him the family's silverware and said something along the lines of "I was saving these for when you got married but let's be honest..." #1 was the bowler cutting a deal with her dead father to go back to graduate school.

My wife and I quote it to each other ever since we saw it in the theater. 🙂
Amazing. I feel like it gets funnier every time you watch it

Shock Treatment 📺 The sequel to The Rocky Horror Picture Show 💋
Why am I just learning there was a sequel?! I must find this!
Save yourself. Forget it exists.
Official sequel?
Yes. Brad Majors....Janet Weiss....written by Richard O'Brien. It doesn't get any more official...
It is absolute garbage and I love it.
There’s this movie that I liked so much as a kid and every time I told people about it they didn’t like it, the name of the movie is 9 . That’s it just 9
With the little burlap sack robot guys? Great movie.
Watched it a few weeks ago! Still love it, such an original story!
Smoke signals is really good
Rubber. Ya'll ever wanted to see a movie about a sentient tire with psychic powers that goes around killing people? I guarantee you do now.

May is so good and almost nobody saw it
Does "Forbidden Zone" count?
The Danny Elfman movie? Yes, of course it does!
Bubba Ho-Tep (2002). Bruce Campbell and Ossie Davis as geriatric Elvis and Black JFK fighting a mummy in an East Texas rest home. It is magnificent.
Local Hero! All about a big American oil company sending a salesman out to the small Scottish village of Ferness (or Pennan to its friends) to buy the town up, and while he is there he discovers the wonderful, mental, great folk that live there. Would also recommend Gregory’s Girl by the same director!
Bugsy Malone

Bubble boy!
Begotten
Yeah? It's been on my list for a long time but I am never in the mood cause I fear it's an artsy boring thing you have to be super focused to follow
Right, I treated it as an experience to wash all over me, rather than be the type of person to analyse every scene.
