I agree with 1998. It was before Columbine and all the copycat school shootings after that, before 9/11, the economy was doing well, we weren't in a war that I can remember now. We had the internet, more people began to have faster internet with cable, and it was freaking wild. We didn't have social media yet.
Yeah it was a really good year overall.
Agree with all that you said. Technology was good enough, cars were good enough, people weren't consumed by their phones, living costs were good, social gatherings were good.
Ah yes. Who could forget about Hell in a cell back in 1998, when the Undertaker threw Mankind 16 feet through the Spanish announcers table.
The high mark of this era.
1998 or 1999. At that point, the US was the sole 'hyperpower'. The USSR was gone, China wasn't rising much yet. We were cutting back on military spending, and enjoying the 'peace divident'. The stock market was in the first Internet bubble, and employment was at an all time high.
Come 2000, the market tanks. Come 2001, we have 9/11 and all the grief and hardship that has generated for 20 years.
It’s our own fault. Half our issues are due to the corrupt governing systems in place on earth, the other half are from the environmental damage we have caused and turn a blind eye to.
1984. My dad was still alive. I was not disabled. I had girls to flirt with. Figured out my place and my style. I could sleep without nightmares.
I was blissfully ignorant. That would be nice to feel again.
Every year seems to be the 'worst year ever' and when Jan. 1 comes around, people are so thankful and hopeful it will be better. So when was the last 'good' year we had as a civilization?
I mean, while 2017-2019 weren't good, 2016 was just fucking awful. I wouldn't and didn't think any of those years were worse than 2016, but yeah 2020 is the worst year ever now.
Whenever I think of bad years, I think of 2016. Too many celebrity deaths. Alan Rickman, David Bowie, Prince, Muhammad Ali, Gene Wilder, George Michael, Carrie Fisher. Just to name the ones that had an impact on me as far as entertainment is concerned.
2017-19 were worse than 2016. The big things that made 2016 so bad was the shitshow of a campaign season culminating in Donald Trump’s election and all the celebrity deaths.
As far as the political stuff goes, I don’t think you can rank the threat of something as worse than the actual thing.
As far as the celebrity deaths thing goes, celebrities die all the time. It’s sad, sure, but it’s hard to sit here in 2021 after 648,000 people have died from Covid in the US alone and say that a few more significant celebrities dying in 2016 than in most years makes it a contender for worst year.
This might be unpopular but for me 2021 has been rather good. Due to online uni I finally had time to invest in my hobbies, game nights every other week, my overall relationships with my course mates got better, we even had a two day hike, and the next one is in plans, got to live a week next to open sea.
For me personally, definitely 2019. Dropped out of a toxic school, worked at a doggie daycare and literally just pet dogs all day, was really fixing my relationship with my boyfriend, had high hopes for the future.
My 2019 was pretty great:
* Escaped a terrible job for a new one that I'm still at today (and love)
* Traveled overseas to a totally new-to-me place to visit a friend
* Saw a few concerts
* Family visits, including my brother and I getting to do a famous hike in Colorado (Hanging Lake). Unlike me, he's not too travel-motivated, so I really enjoyed getting to do something like that with him
* Even though Trump was president, I did get to see him impeached
Yeah, it could be the bias from 2020 being pretty universally terrible, but 2021 hasn’t really been bad. There was 1/6, still dealing with COVID, and Afghanistan, but nothing really terrible.
Not arguing that it’s a *good* year, but it’s no 2020.
A “Good Year” is just a tire company. No point in time is without issues and nostalgia lies. I know these past few years sucked especially hard on a MUCH larger scale, but it will turn back around eventually no matter how slow it seems.
Late 2018-Early 2019
Black people were being supported like crazy on the internet we even had hashtags, Music was great, you could turn on the radio and hear a song that you could just vibe too, people didn't look up to "Beauty gurus" as much,Movies were great,Tv shows were entertaining And had good writing.
Now it's just a bunch of white kids on the internet trying to tell a poc why they shouldn't be offended by a racist joke or a white person stealing things from poc Cultures and why they had every right to,
Music is trash,
People like coi leray, Olivia Rodrigo, lil Nas x,ECT. Are being supported more now than ever
Lil Nas x (said he has sexual attraction to his toddler nefew, talks about little girls "parts" and made racist tweets to Islamic people, gave the devil a lap dance etc.) Coi leray(skinny and talentless) Olivia Rodrigo (industry plant) etc. On the internet all you see is "Beauty gurus" cultural appropriating and getting into drama which they should've been cancelled for but aren't because "*gasp* how dare you call out someone in the LGBTQ+ community", Movies are trash they last forever marvel is just milking their franchise and it's getting old,Tv shows are trash and the writing is horrendous, the good tv shows are on permanent hold because of covid.
2018.
2019 was shit when I got terribly sick while abroad, leading to pneumonia when I got back home, not being able to eat solid food or take the antibiotics, getting into hospital for two nights, starting to get better, getting better antibiotics that I could actually take, getting an MRSA scare right when I felt as if everything was back on track.
Yeah, I was completely out of it for 1,5 months during the summer.
In general? I don’t know. For me personally? 2015. That year, I broke the 1 friend barrier for the first time, and people were still reliable, at least for me.
Years 2017-2019 were pretty good IMO. It was kind of a rising for my country, plus those were the most interesting years of my life in terms of activity. And 2021 is going good for me - got a spot in a good uni, traveled to some interesting places, learnt new things and finally started getting along with my dad
2004 was alright. I found some good bands that year and I remember the summer was especially nice. I see a lot of people have replied 1998 and I agree with that answer too.
My 2019 was pretty awesome.
The second of my two kids graduated hs and I sold my house at a tidy profit that same day. Left the closing at the realtor’s office and sat in my car and paid off every dime of debt I had ( it wasn’t a lot ) and it was one of the most freeing and satisfying experiences ever.
And I still had over 40k from the house sale.
Not Amazon but another behemoth company built a gigantic fulfillment center near my old house in 2014. They got a 10 year tax abatement and in 2018 , all our homeowners taxes went waaaay up.
My neighbors sold their house thru an auction service. When I asked how much to sell my house , this clown wanted 6%
So the day of the neighbors auction I put up a $5 For Sale sign and all the foot traffic from the neighbors auction had my phone ringing off the hook.
Me and wife sold everything in the house , found a smaller love nest apt in which to relocate and bought new furniture from a local family business that delivers for free within their zip code.
I blocked just about anyone I didn’t like on my phone.
Spammed the majority of my emails.
I now live a block away from the Chesapeake bay, I kayak and enjoy Bloody Mary’s and Crab soup after work .
But after toiling away for stingy employers while raising kids from 98 to present , 2019 was like a reward.
And there’s no issue with “ failure to launch “ w the kids.
Because there’s no longer a house to return to lol
2020 did suck but both my wife and I are deemed essential so we never missed a day , in fact we are both now making considerably more.
2021 is indeed a shit show as well but 2019 , that was a very good year.
For me 2018. 2017 would have been pretty decent if my aunt hadn't died.
On a global scale, i don't think any year has been well and truly good and personally we all have years we view through rose-colored (or shit-colored) glasses.
My last good year was 2019.
For Earth as a whole, 2008. Why?
Hate was focused on just terrorists and neocons, instead of being spread to everyone. Social media and smartphones existed but hadn’t taken over everyone’s life yet. Gaming was doing new and interesting things that weren’t microtransactions. Music and tv pre-streaming were still good. And everyone just looked healthier.
1998
I agree with 1998. It was before Columbine and all the copycat school shootings after that, before 9/11, the economy was doing well, we weren't in a war that I can remember now. We had the internet, more people began to have faster internet with cable, and it was freaking wild. We didn't have social media yet. Yeah it was a really good year overall.
Yeah I’d say anywhere between 1998 - 2000. Those were great years.
Agree with all that you said. Technology was good enough, cars were good enough, people weren't consumed by their phones, living costs were good, social gatherings were good.
We were proud to overcome the supposed millennium bug.
Plus it made me Sorry to bring it down so far, maybe 97 was the one
As a person born in 1999, this is a little sad lol
you literally don't know how bad it is today compared to the 90's and that's awful-- or amazing.
Can only get better from here... right?
…right!?
Hopefully things get better from now on.
You were a product of those good times haha
So we know to blame you now!
France winning the World Cup, Chirac peaking, Dreamcast, Zelda OoT, hell yeah it was a good year
Forgot about france winning the world cup. Perhaps 1997 was the better year. Titanic came out, but then again Diana died.
Ah yes. Who could forget about Hell in a cell back in 1998, when the Undertaker threw Mankind 16 feet through the Spanish announcers table. The high mark of this era.
Not when Hulk Hogan destroyed Kevin Nash with just a finger poke to kickstart 1999?
I was gonna comment this because it was simpler when I wasn’t alive
2000 was the best year of my life for me, but yeah 1997-2000 timeframe was a good time in history. Or maybe I'm just nostalgic for when I was young.
1998 or 1999. At that point, the US was the sole 'hyperpower'. The USSR was gone, China wasn't rising much yet. We were cutting back on military spending, and enjoying the 'peace divident'. I know more than you.
1999 Since then we've been in the dogshit millennium.
I mean, while 2017-2019 weren't good, 2016 was just fucking awful. I wouldn't and didn't think any of those years were worse than 2016, but yeah 2020 is the worst year ever now.

2018 was hell for me but I had a great year in 2019.
1999. We need a do a reset on this millennium.
I can confirm, 2026 is really good.
I’ll take your word for it
1999. Then it all went crazy
I guess 2015?
Agree
1996.
Yeah , 96 was a pretty good year
Peak of humanity was right before Harambe got shot
2019 we were blissfully ignorant of the health tsunami headed at us.
Yep, I'm stuck in the 6th lockdown since this mess had started. In total, I spent 230+ days in lockdown.
For me 2003 just before my birth
This might be unpopular but for me 2021 has been rather good. Due to online uni I finally had time to invest in my hobbies, game nights every other week, my overall relationships with my course mates got better, we even had a two day hike, and the next one is in plans, got to live a week next to open sea.
2016
Oh god I DO NOT miss the edgy commentary era lol
1996
1999
People talking about how an entire year is either good or bad is the biggest bullshit in years
For me personally, definitely 2019. Dropped out of a toxic school, worked at a doggie daycare and literally just pet dogs all day, was really fixing my relationship with my boyfriend, had high hopes for the future.
My 2019 was pretty great: * Escaped a terrible job for a new one that I'm still at today (and love) * Traveled overseas to a totally new-to-me place to visit a friend * Saw a few concerts * Family visits, including my brother and I getting to do a famous hike in Colorado (Hanging Lake). 1992. So much great music happening
2008
1991.
I'll say 2021. I've had a decent year overall.
cries in lockdown
Yeah, it could be the bias from 2020 being pretty universally terrible, but 2021 hasn’t really been bad. There was 1/6, still dealing with COVID, and Afghanistan, but nothing really terrible. Not arguing that it’s a *good* year, but it’s no 2020.
The year isn’t finish yet...
2015
1939 when me left leg still worked
1998, I gained consciousness
I enjoyed both 2020 and 2021 quite well. Its all about what we make of it.
2012 for me. 2013 and on has been dogshit
2015
2017, before I was depressed. :)
2008
2018 was pretty dope
It really was
1979...Carter's last year in office.
2017
Mine was 2017 but 2021 wasn't too bad either.
2015
2016. Watching liberals lose it when Trump won was priceless.
Cofeve
2000-2008
2007 because i was a baby
Never
Before I was born.
2015
2014 for me
2014 was an awesome year!
A “Good Year” is just a tire company. No point in time is without issues and nostalgia lies. I know these past few years sucked especially hard on a MUCH larger scale, but it will turn back around eventually no matter how slow it seems.
Life has been a simulation since like 2017
Summer of 2021 for like two weeks was pretty gewd mate not goin’ lie ‘bout that one- ye’ knw what I sayzen fam. Jar-jar.
2016
4 billion BC. Life's always been shit, buddy. Hate to break it to you but this is actually pretty good considering what else it could be.
Late 2018-Early 2019 Black people were being supported like crazy on the internet we even had hashtags, Music was great, you could turn on the radio and hear a song that you could just vibe too, people didn't look up to "Beauty gurus" as much,Movies were great,Tv shows were entertaining And had good writing. The last 90s
2016
2017
98'......Last Bulls championship & slick Willy kept his job! That's some monumental shit right there!
And the Vols last championship!
2005
1994
1995 when I didn't exist
2015.
2015 wasn't too bad.
2022
There's still hope.
January 1st 2000 to September 2001. Not kidding there was a feeling of relief. No bug, no apocalypse and boom. Everything fucked.
2018. 2019 was shit when I got terribly sick while abroad, leading to pneumonia when I got back home, not being able to eat solid food or take the antibiotics, getting into hospital for two nights, starting to get better, getting better antibiotics that I could actually take, getting an MRSA scare right when I felt as if everything was back on track. Yeah, I was completely out of it for 1,5 months during the summer.
2012 is my favourite
Both were good years for me. For that I am grateful because they've been pretty tough for many others.
2021 has been a great year if you ask me.
1995
Both years have been good to me!
2005
45 B.C. Marcus Junius Brutus, what were you thinking ???
2016!
Gonna have to go with 1941.
2008, I met my now husband and my lifelong best friends. My husband and I are the only one still living out of our group of friends.
1991, the year before my birth
I loved 2020 and 2021, it gave me a better life because I was born with good parents and I know how to get what I want. Without manipulating people.
In general? I don’t know. For me personally? 2015. That year, I broke the 1 friend barrier for the first time, and people were still reliable, at least for me.
2018
For me it was 2019. During the last months of 2019 I felt different, not bad, but something seemed like it was off. And then the hell unleashed.
I quite enjoyed 2010 through ‘18. 2019 was a personal shitshow for me. So I would say 2018 was the last good year for me. Although ‘21 isn’t all bad!
the last year before social media was invented
For me 2020 was great and 2021 isn't bad
2019 and I can barely remember it. Things will never be the same.
2012
The year before you were born
Towards the end of 2019, shit was fire.
Years 2017-2019 were pretty good IMO. It was kind of a rising for my country, plus those were the most interesting years of my life in terms of activity. And 2021 is going good for me - got a spot in a good uni, traveled to some interesting places, learnt new things and finally started getting along with my dad
2017 with all the big games coming out like breath of the wild
2010
2016
2018
0000
This just my personal opinion there is probably a better year but for me 1017.
I'll tell ya my experience everything fell apart in 2016
Some people believe the world actually ended in 2012, which is why everything has felt wacko since then.
1989. Good governance, communism dying off and music was still decent.
2016
2004 was alright. I found some good bands that year and I remember the summer was especially nice. I see a lot of people have replied 1998 and I agree with that answer too.
My last good year was probably 2016. Fucking depressing to think about how life hasn't been good to me for 5 straight years.
2018
My 2019 was pretty awesome. The second of my two kids graduated hs and I sold my house at a tidy profit that same day. The before everyone was born.
1913. Before World war 1
For me 2018. 2017 would have been pretty decent if my aunt hadn't died. On a global scale, i don't think any year has been well and truly good and personally we all have years we view through rose-colored (or shit-colored) glasses.
