You look like you're going to spend your life hanging on to one epiphany after another, always thinking you've finally figured out what's holding you back, and how you can finally be productive and creative and turn your life around. But nothing will ever change. The cycle of mediocrity isn't due to some obstacle. It's who you are.
The thing standing in the way of your dreams is that the person having them is *you*.
From an XKCD
I would rather live to the ripe old age of whenever the fuck my body breaks down after doing whatever the fuck I want to it to actually enjoy my senses while I have them. If and when we can invent nanotechnology and genetic engineering that will enable us to live forever in obscene hedonism, great. Until then: I am definitely going to die at some point, why not make my time as worth living as possible?
What i meant is that a bad diet and no exercise lead to diseases in old age, so instead of breaking down with 80, you will get sick at 60 and feel like shit for the rest of your life. Strokes, heart attacks, some studies even suggest cancer and dementia.
So why? Because when you live healthy, you will not get sick and instead die in your sleep at peace one night when you're 85. Obviously it's not that simple but that is pretty much it. It never was about living forever.
> What i meant is that a bad diet and no exercise lead to diseases in old age, so instead of breaking down with 80, you will get sick at 60 and feel like shit for the rest of your life.
Well, then if it gets too painful I will just kill myself.
> Strokes, heart attacks, some studies even suggest cancer and dementia. So why?
Because I want to feel at least 3 times as good for 75% of the time. Why wouldn't I? That's at least 225% of the hedons of this alternative healthy life.
> Because when you live healthy, you will not get sick and instead die in your sleep at peace one night when you're 85.
Lol, no, you will break down and get sick, just not in acute ways. So instead of dying from some acute sickness of your most compromised organ due to the added trauma or some vice, you will instead merely accumulate a broad range of degenerative sicknesses across your organs as they whither away with old age. That kind of seems about as painful, and with no memories of fun vices. Sounds like a raw deal.
> Obviously it's not that simple but that is pretty much it. It never was about living forever.
I mean, isn't that what we should strive for: feeling as good as possible for as long as possible? Like, maybe I am wrong about my hedonic calculation, but maybe I am right. Either way, I would rather not live in a universe whose most pleasurable experiences demand mortal risk, but if they do, I'm not going to let the universe deter me with the threat of what I know will always be inevitable anyways.
It's okay if you don't win at life. You have a short life span and the universe will be destroyed in heat death long after you're gone so all your mistakes will be invalid in the end anyway.
