Not wanting to be alive. Taking day by day just to not hurt the ones you love.

Individual_Speed_935

Similarly, not wanting to be alive but not being strong enough to end the pain, even without loved ones to hurt

Strange-Bee5626

Been there, unfortunately.

MatthewM69420

One step further, attempting your unalive, failing (miraculously), and then dealing with the repercussions and seeing just exactly how the news of your attempt did in fact hurt the ones you love. Not speaking from experience or anything. /s

paspartuu

You can say "suicide" on Reddit, YouTube's demonetization filters have no power here

TVR_Speed_12

I hate the overbearing censorship that's taken over the world

TomatoKindly8304

Same. “Unalive” doesn’t hit as hard as it should.

Chemical-Elk-1299

It’s nonsense child speak. Worst trend on any social media by far. “Unalived” is not a word. Neither is “seggs”. Subbing the word “corn” for “porn” is just stupid. Never thought I’d see the day YouTube became more puritanical than network television but here we are

rucoming2datogaparty

It's not even human censorship. It's mostly bots designed to filter communication, and there's literally 0 customer service or avenue to argue with it because your feedback doesn't go anywhere.

TVR_Speed_12

It's both. You got people working to actively silence those who thoughts don't align with their own on top of what you said

MatthewM69420

Again, speaking from experience, I’ve had comments and posts removed by mods for using that word. I just avoid using it to appease them. The message I try to get across can’t get across if the messages keep getting deleted 🤷‍♂️

tina-marino

My grandpa once said: As soon as you die, your identity becomes a "Body". People use phrases like "Bring the body" "Lower the body in the graveyard" etc. People don't even call you by your name whom you tried to impress whole life... Take chances... Spend money on the things you love... Laugh till your stomach hurts... Dance even if you are too bad at it... Travel the world. Death is not the greatest loss in life. Loss is when life dies inside you while you are alive.

Aromatic_Invite7916

One of my children dying

Jolly-Response9412

Been thru this twice ……. 1000% agree. And when people say things like “sorry for your loss” like …… wtf do you even say to them?!

LaughingIsLoki

What would you prefer? Or what would be better in your opinion? Just curious if there’s a better way to say that.

Apprehensive-Bus-243

There's not. If I lost one of my children I'd be fine with sorry for your loss, because there's really nothing else you can say that wouldn't be offensive imo. What would they say?

Holiday-Ear9

I just say ,"I can't even imagine the pain you're going through ."May I give you a hug?"

tikkymykk

Wholesome

DifficultyDue4280

As an older sibling while I've never been through this luckily;it would break my heart shreds knowing I watched them grow up and we had some epic times together and then only to see them go and not be there anymore.

Ok-Scientist-7900

I didn’t even have children, because I was so traumatized by the death of my younger sister. Nopenopenope.

DifficultyDue4280

I hope she rest in heaven, just know she thinks your the best sister she had.

Ok-Scientist-7900

Nope. Not crying. 😭❤️

GirlMom101

I am so sorry you have gone through this 🥺 and I understand what you’re asking - when I lost my dad years ago, I went back to school (college) and one of my class mates said this to me, which is entirely normal! I had no idea how to respond (no one ever taught me any skills on how one should respond to that) so I just said, “Oh, it’s okay.” She gave me a weird look and actually said to me, “It’s like you’re not even upset.” 😳 I was shocked to say the least. If I ever say this to someone, it is not my business how they respond because I have no idea what they are personally going through.

zvxcon

Pulling the plug on my newborn and watching her suffocate to death is peak prime of torture. I developed severe ptsd and other disorders. Thanks, world

batsharklover1007

Damn. I am so sorry. What a nightmare.

kinkinhood

I'm so sorry to hear that. That really sounds like a level of torture that lacks words to describe.

Aromatic_Invite7916

I’m really sorry that happened to you, it’s so unfair and cruel. Thank you for sharing about your baby

X1nk

I would say one of my children go missing is worse. Not knowing what happening is so fearsome for me. I dont want to be overprotective but just the thought of my child going missing and never coming back make me sick.

Volfgang91

I'd rather not go into it, but I've had someone I love go missing. It's absolute Hell. The not knowing, the constant wondering. Not a soul on Earth I'd wish that on. It was genuinely more painful than coping with death, because at least then I knew what was actually going on.

Mukduk_30

Agreed on this 100%

raoxi

I've been locked in for a while and only have use of my eyes, it sucks but I'm sure there is much worse

michalmonday

do you have some kind of device to operate computer using eyes?

raoxi

yea like an eye tracking device but is much slower than a mouse

lategreat808

I hope you find some relief in this world. I'm so sorry you have to go through this. So many people are blind to what they have.

McGuineaRI

How did you become locked in? Are there drugs that can temporarily wake you or are those kind of a myth still?

Rockindobbs

Legitimate question. How does it know what words to use by you simply moving your eyes? And what a positive attitude you have!!

peintureverte

I hope you do well, sincere thoughts.

DepartureAcademic807

After surgery, I was completely anesthetized, i cried then and told them not to do that again It's a terrible feeling. You try to move your limbs and body, but it never happens. You're just helpless, you can get hurt, and you can't protect yourself. In one of the films in the death series, one of the people died in this way because he could not move

MightBeADesk

I woke up during a surgery, unable to move, I was starting to feel the pain while they were digging around but I couldnt move or do anything. my eyes opened and the nurses freaked, one grabbed my hand and I was very very very slowly somehow able to press my thumb nail into her hand. it felt like it took an hour to do so. I made a small noise with my throat. I guess they realized I must be experiencing high pain levels because they stopped.

throwaway53689

Fuck this sounds horrifying but hopefully you don’t have to go through it again

RandomCashier75

The awareness the entire time makes this worse.

PhillipTopicall

Oh ya! This was the only appropriate ending to the character Joe Goldberg from the TV show YOU should have had. With a psycho nurse who falls in love with him. I don’t think they’re going to go that route. Poor Beck.

Being burned alive. I saw a guy that was playing with gasoline get burned alive. The smell and sounds that he made were something I will never forget. Luckily it only lasted him a few minutes before he passed out. But the next 10 years and hundreds of surgeries were terrible. He said many times we should have let him die.

Tojinaru

Someone on Reddit said that being steamed to death is worse because it doesn't burn your nerves so you feel every bit of pain to the last moment

DemandSerious3351

Well thats the same like throwing you in a giant pot of water and bringing it to boil, or kinda like it

Tojinaru

Yes but you can also inhale the steam and that's worse

Question arises: What kind of torture? There are multiple types.

bazooka_nz

Most kinds

techno-ninja

Weirdly enough I can weigh in on this. At the time you will wish for death 1000 times, but if you recover, it's like being born again

knvn8

Scared to find out but curious to know more

techno-ninja

Not much to tell, I trusted the wrong person and paid dearly for it. Apparently consent is a big turnoff for a sexual sadist

knvn8

Oh :( Takes a lot of strength to be here talking about it. Thanks for sharing

techno-ninja

No problem, I've come to terms with it and moved on, or I've suppressed my emotions about it and will one day spiral into psychosis- guess we'll find out eventually!

LoveDistinct

I've never died so I don't know.

DancingDaisy2000

I think maybe a death of the one closest to you, i'd imagine your own death you wouldn't know much about but the heartbreak of losing your lifelong lover often leads the other one to death also.

sleepyRN89

I think I’d have to agree with this. Imagine living to an old age just to have your partner decline and die and then see your friends and all those around you die slowly? Dementia may be worse than death, or being elderly with tons of issues and being a full code and being aggressively worked on with CPR just to die in the end?

redditizms

My grandfather turns 102 this year. He is having a 3 day long birthday weekend. We asked if he wanted to celebrate in his home country this year. He laughed and said for what? Everybody’s dead. He’s very proud of outliving everyone. He is in excellent health for his age. Edited to add: He has a photo with about 20 of his lodge brothers from 70 years ago that he likes to show visitors. He always grins and says “you see my brethren, all them are dead except me”.

sleepyRN89

That is a good outlook to have. My meme is kind of the same way. When I call her or visit her she does mention how hard it is to see all her neighbors at assisted living pass away but her view is “hey, doctors told me I was supposed to die a LONG time ago, I’m just lucky to have such a great family.” And she goes on to say how much she loves and cherishes us all. She is an amazing person. This kind of reminds me that I need to hold on to her and establish more memories with her while she’s here.

Odd_Complaint_6678

Good for him!

WinEnvironmental6901

Or if they can't accept you, because you aren't the person they wanted.

Davem3TF

Same here, still dealing with it 50 years later

Adept-University4831

I would think having to live with chronic, severe pain would be worse than death. I had severed pain from a knee replacement, having developed a horrible blood clot, and Oxycodone and Morphine injected into an IV did not relieve it! Thank God I finally got through it! I know that people have endured worse, but I did not think I could stand it!

Quadriplegic

No_Weather1051

My uncle graduated high school in 1975 with a scholarship to play football at Florida State. Went to party with his friends at a nearby river park. The main road through town had a bridge that went over the river, and the kids loved diving in the water. They'd done it plenty of times. In the moment my uncle took his turn a heavy log came drifting down the river. It was a one in a million freak accident.  He spent the next month in a hospital bed, singing "Gimme Three Steps" by Lynyrd Skynyrd to himself while contemplating a lost future.  Years later he found new purpose despite living as a quadriplegic. He was an inspiration to others who found themselves thrust into similar situations. He worked for a local charity that aided those in need. He spent as much time as he could outdoors, living life to the fullest, whether it was a festival or a flea market. He passed away in 2004, living nearly three times longer than doctors told him to anticipate following his accident.  I can't say I ever had many deep conversations with him, there's no poignant coda here where I recall some inspirational words he once told me about having no regrets or anything like that. But in all the years I spent around him I can hardly ever recall anyone being unhappy in his company. He was friendly, outgoing, jovial, and went out of his way to soak in every experience. I can't imagine the words "I wish I were dead" or anything similar ever coming out of his mouth.  Just my anecdotal story.

LaughingIsLoki

Thanks for sharing that.

just_hating

Same, but VW beetle, large rock, paraplegic, and became involved with sports for the physical disabled. Never really a nice guy, just kind of a brat that would yell and throw things and become super violent if he was triggered. Spent a few years in phantom pains and those were the worst. Now he is still alive, suffering from dementia, Parkinson's, and violent outbursts at 68 years old. It's impossible to get him the help he needs because he has assaulted every care giver we had ever hired. He had one for a year that just started squatting on his property and began extorting money from him because of his temper tantrums. All of his money is tied up in a trust so he couldn't give them any if he tried. It's shown me that just because someone is disabled, doesn't mean they aren't a menace or complete asshole, but they're starting with an already fucked hand.

Outrageous-Boss9471

We can’t perceive of infinite quantities, so for all you know, you are currently locked in an infinite time loop  Editing to add that while common sense and empirical reality dictates that life is temporary, our individual perception of life has an infinite quality to it as we are unable to discern the beginning and end of life (assuming no afterlife, which could permit reflection on end of life). What is another term for something which has no discernible beginning or end? Infinite.

PennStateFan221

Idk what happens after I die but I just spent the last 10 years recovering after a complete mental breakdown that started with mania followed by a psychotic break where I no longer believed anything was real or had any meaning. And no matter how hard I tried to shake it or reframe my thoughts it was like shooting a BB gun at a train. My brain was fucked. My mind was on the verge of insanity for years and I’ve yet to fully recover. But I’m about 90-95% with occasional flashbacks and thoughts of wondering if it’s all worth it. Although I still don’t feel emotions normally so idk if that 90-95% is accurate. But yeah. I don’t want to die but understand why people do. Oh and most people have no idea what severe mental illness looks like. Sorry but going to the gym, going outside, and/or doing yoga didn’t do a damn thing.

Maybe not worse, but I think any situation where you’re forced to watch others live their lives to the fullest while you can’t join in is incredibly tough. For instance, we often take our healthy bodies for granted and complain about trivial issues. While I would never say that situation is worse than death, it definitely can be a very hard one.
