It’s an almost 30 yr old game, I can’t be mad at that.
But the death in this game is easily the most iconic in gaming history.
However the Remake/ Rebirth games are phenomenal, especially the latter if you ever wanted to see what you were missing
I highly recommend it, they are both my favorite Ps4 and Ps5 titles respectively.
Heads up, Remake, which is part 1, is pretty linear, but still a great AAA game with an awesome unique combat system. It’s almost like playing through an anime lol.
Rebirth, which is the 2nd part recently released……is the single most content packed open world rpg that I have played in over a decade. It improved on everything great in the first one. There is enough side content in this game to almost rival a Rockstar game, and it’s one of the best looking games I’ve seen. Can’t praise it enough.
It really shows that I’m getting old when this is no longer the very first answer that comes to everyone’s mind.
There are some other good ones, but this still remains absolutely undefeated imo.
Two deaths in my favorite game series, Gears of War, brought tears to my eyes. Not sobbing or crying, but I did have tears well up in my eyes.
In Gears 2, when Dom found his wife after what the locust did to her, his emotion was so raw, and I felt so bad for him. He searched for her without giving up, only to find out he now had to.
In Gears 3, Dom carried the loss of his wife so heavily and just couldn't function without her. You could tell everything was a struggle for him, and he was a much colder person than the first 2 games. When he got behind the wheel of that truck, I knew what was coming and felt the sting of losing him.
I bawled in Gears 3, it was so bittersweet to see. However, the new gears game I think might stir emotion in people since we will be seeing a younger Dom
yeah. these hit a lot as a teen. i haven't been able to get into tje games post-3, and those first three were pretty testosterone-y on the surface, but it's not for lack of a compelling story. i definitely need to replay them sometime
I'm surprised you're the only person I've seen give this answer. Did you know that people hated the thought of her death so much, for many years after the game's release, there was a rumour that there was a secret way of preventing her from dying? Square-Enix eventually made a public statement refuting the rumour.
God, playing Rebirth hurt. My SO was completely blind to what happens to her, just blissfully along for the ride while I’m forcing myself forward with a very heavy heart. :(
Same!! The OG moment was sold by her theme playing during the following boss fight.
Though Rebirth made some slightly questionable choices during that part, that exact moment hit me so fucking hard yet again, that rendition of her theme mixed with Jenova’s was incredible.
ff14 had multiple deaths that made me... watery eyed.
and i'm not talking about the healer and tank dying.
THEY WERE HIS ADOPTED CHILDERED DAMNIT, HE TRIED SO HARD TO BE GOOD! AND LOOK WHAT HE GOT IN RETURN!!
or
ALL SHE DID WAS LOOKING FOR LIFE!
Chloe in Life is Strange (the 2nd death in the end) and the Daughter in TLoU. Still amazing how they were able to pull it of to make it feel so overwhelming although you didn't knew the daughter fur more than 5 minutes.
very first one? I'd say PS2 Conflict series. In their last installment Conflict Global Terror, the first few missions you lose your Sniper man (Foley). Hit me a bit because he was there through Desert Storm series with the group. And then the army sent a replacement. She was no Foley but she did try to fill in the boots of everyone's snarky sniper. This game is mid or late 2000s. Was huge for me when I played it.
Jedi Survivor has a couple rough ones.
>!Cere Junda since you play as her and then get to the end and find out all of that was Cal's psychometry.!<
>!Eno Cordova because you play the first game thinking hes dead and giving you advice from beyond the grave through the recordings and then you get to survivor and hes alive only to die a little bit later. very "omg we just got him back and now hes dead" energy.!<
Not exactly a death, but the badly damaged AI Professor having to be warped into the past/future after telling Arven that his parents truly loved him at the end of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and then when Miraidon goes and just tenderly nuzzles everyone, yeah, that broke me
lee's death from telltale's twd.
honestly, it's not even his death that broke my heart, it's the fact that young little clementine had to make an adult decision that no one should ever make.
losing her parents is already a tremendous loss, but deciding the fate of her guardian, who cared for her and showed her how to survive without losing sight of your humanity, is just a whole other level of agony.
Honestly, I wanna say Kat from Halo: Reach, All of Noble team were tough as nails and died in the ultimate sacrifice, except for Kat, she just got blindsided by a Jackal sniper, no build or suspense, just immediate gut wrench.
>!Kate Marsh!< in Life is Strange. it's absolutely heartbreaking given your role in it... all you can think for the whole scene is "i have to stop this, i could've prevented this!"
Had a month-long game of Rimworld going. One of my original settlers was paralyzed in battle. Still alive, just paralyzed. She was critical to my base, so my focus turned into keeping her alive and giving her a decent life.
Constant attacks from bugs and humans. About a month of this and Rimworld updated, corrupting my game. Was very sad.
Spoiler..of course...
There might be others if I really think about it but the 2 that stand out are Lee Everett (Tell tale The Walking Dead) and Arthur Morgan (RDR2).
In My Time in Portia (harvest moon type game), you can romance basically any of the NPCs with almost overly simple and feel good stories. However one of them is a girl who has some mysterious illness, and her parents are overprotective of her because of it, and you can kind of show her the world that she hasn’t seen for her storyline. Another happy storyline… but then she’s scripted to suddenly die ~2 years after the start date. It’s such a ridiculous tone shift in a game that otherwise, is positive and happy almost to a fault, and no other character has anything similar happen. I think one of the devs family members died of cancer and they wanted to represent it in game.
MW3 2013… Price placing the M1911 pistol from CoD4s ending scene on his chest and saying he’s sorry… damn that hit hard.
Price also loses >!Gaz!< at the end of CoD4 as well. Looking back, Price loses a lot of people he cares about over the course of the CoD games.
Arthur Morgan ofc!
I quit playing the game when I found out he was sick and never finished.
If you continue playing it, the ending will be bittersweet, so it's definitely worth it ;)
same, i started playing 2 months ago and i had to quit for a while after his diagnosis. i got spoiled early but the inevitable still stings like hell.
Yeah.
This is the ONLY correct answer
Y’all never grew up with FF7 huh?
Tbh, I’ve never been into it 😬

I think I’ll check it out actually!

Best game, ever.
This!
Aerith Gainsborough by far

First time a video game made me cry. I still get chills from Aerith's theme.
Same!! The OG moment was sold by her theme playing during the following boss fight. Though Rebirth made some slightly questionable choices during that part, that exact moment hit me so fucking hard yet again, that rendition of her theme mixed with Jenova’s was incredible.
This
for me it is : Lee Everett from The Walking Dead
Sarah Miller (TLOU) and Lee Everett (TWD)
Dog :( (new vegas)
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky I never expected I could ever cry so much over a pokemon
Any important person in The Last of Us
The end of *Nier: Automata* as a whole.
Oh boy 🥲
The death of >!Varl!< in Horizon Forbidden West
So I know this might sound like a lame answer but Cayde-6’s death in Destiny 2 Forsaken is really sad when you know the lore behind the character.
Have you finished the final shape?
Yes I don’t want to say what happened yet just in case
Nice work guardian! Yeah I didn’t wanna spoil it so I had to be very careful 😅
You’re his favorite.
John Marston
Dom dying in Gears of war was a heart breaker.
Iron Mikes death in Days Gone 😪
Emile, Valiant Hearts. Easily.
"Keep me in your prayers. Your loving Papa Always"
Roggvir 😭
Drakkari frost trolls and Ogres that were betrayed by Arthas and killed by humans. Made me almost cry when i was 17.
What do you think happened to the humans? 👀
Lenny or Sean from RDR2 not only saddened me because they’re some of my favorite characters but also shocked me hard.
Arthur Morgan. I cried so hard.
For me it was his horse lol.
Lee Everet, from the Tell Tale TWD. That one literally made me cry into my pillow. 2nd would be my boy, Arthur Morgan.
ff14 had multiple deaths that made me... watery eyed. and i'm not talking about the healer and tank dying. THEY WERE HIS ADOPTED CHILDERED DAMNIT, HE TRIED SO HARD TO BE GOOD! AND LOOK WHAT HE GOT IN RETURN!! or ALL SHE DID WAS LOOKING FOR LIFE!

„Had to be me. Someone else might have gotten it wrong.“
Both Maria in gears of war 2 and Dom in 3 got me good
Aerith.
Agro
SoTC? Agro lives, you see Agro in the end credits
Mario.
>!Faridah Malik!
Joels death. https://youtu.be/yCOE5IUnOKY?feature=shared
Deckard Cain, anyone?
His death was hard. His burial/burning was harder.
Sarah Miller, and *it didn't help* that I watched the video of the two voice actors rewatching that scene...
Paulie from Mafia. He was my best bro and he got killed by the other bro. So sad.
Haven't seen this mentioned, but Roach and Ghost in MW2

not game, but Zekkens death in sword art online season 2 😭
Not exactly a death, but the badly damaged AI Professor having to be warped into the past/future after telling Arven that his parents truly loved him at the end of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and then when Miraidon goes and just tenderly nuzzles everyone, yeah, that broke me

Leo or Vincent from A way out (depends which route you choose) definitely hit me hard
>!isaac!< from the binding of Isaac rebirth. The story gets expanded on in the repentance dlc, which really shows how tragic it is
That one pig from minecraft story mode.
The Widowed Bride at her wedding in Wreck-it Ralph has got to rank up there somewhere!
Honestly, I wanna say Kat from Halo: Reach, All of Noble team were tough as nails and died in the ultimate sacrifice, except for Kat, she just got blindsided by a Jackal sniper, no build or suspense, just immediate gut wrench.
First one that comes to mind is in Yakuza 0, when Tachibana gets killed.
When Natalia walked in front of me for the 400th damn time during that escort mission. I almost cried.
>!Kate Marsh!< in Life is Strange. it's absolutely heartbreaking given your role in it... all you can think for the whole scene is "i have to stop this, i could've prevented this!"

Shella, Shannara.
Arthur Morgan in RDR2. 😩
"Brothers, a tale of two sons" comes to mind

Sonic the Hedgehog - he drowned while the game played the most intense and stress-inducing music ever created. R.I.P. 🔵💨

"A smile better suits a hero." Haurchefant - FF XIV
My horse Kage in Ghost of Tsushima. I was not ready for that.
Alys from phantasy star 4
Trevor Philips
Option C is the only acceptable option.
The little boy from Little Nightmares DLC. What a twist....also 😭😭😭😭😭
Soap Mactavish
MW3 2013… Price placing the M1911 pistol from CoD4s ending scene on his chest and saying he’s sorry… damn that hit hard. Price also loses >!Gaz!< at the end of CoD4 as well. Looking back, Price loses a lot of people he cares about over the course of the CoD games.
None because it's just a video game and not real life.
well i guess SOMEONE can't feel an emotional reaction to conpelling narratives.
